Australia women defeat India by 30 runs

noreply@blogger.com (news...) — Tue, 13 Mar 2012 13:07:00 +0000

Ahmedabad: Australia women defeated India women in the first one day international match of the three-match series played at the Motera. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors had an 84 runs stand for the second wicket and set up a solid start for the Aussies.
Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals after that and it was the efforts from Jodie Fields (64*) that took Australia to a respectable total of 227 runs. In reply, India had a slow start and lost their first wicket in the 12th over on a score of 35 runs. India kept losing the wickets and was always behind the eight balls. India never threatened Australia in terms of the rate they scored at. Harmanpreet Kaur played a good hand of 57 runs but her efforts went in vain as India fell short by 30 runs even after playing the full quota of 50 overs.
Brief Score:
Australia Women: 227/8 in 50 overs (Fields 64*, Lanning 45, Dhar 4-53)
India Women: 197/8 in 50 overs (Kaur 57, Raut 36, Sthalekar 2-25)

Ganguly looks at the positives ahead of final

noreply@blogger.com (news...) — Tue, 13 Mar 2012 13:06:00 +0000

Bengal will be without key batsman Manoj Tiwary and in-form pacer Ashok Dinda but skipper Sourav Ganguly is hopeful there would be a change of luck in the Vijay Hazare one-day final clash against Mumbai on Monday. Point out his team are without the two players, who are part of the asia Cup squad, and Ganguly shows his reputation as a leader on the pitch was not built on fretting about such things. “Even Mumbai don't have Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Zaheer Khan! We have a decent side and will do our best to win.”

Ganguly also hoped it would be third time lucky for Bengal, who have not won the trophy despite having reached the final twice in the past. "This is the first time I have captained Bengal for a full season and hopefully we will set that right this time," he said.

Bengal is likely to field an unchanged eleven from the one that defeated Punjab in the semifinal. However, there could be a change as opener Jayojit Basu, who lost his father on Saturday, may not be in a mental frame to play although he has joined the team after the funeral. The big question is whether toss again be a factor on the result as in the first few games the side that won the toss and fielded first had an advantage on the Ferozshah Kotla track. The Bengal skipper doesn't feel that way.

“In the last game (against Delhi), Mumbai won the toss and batted first and posted nearly 300. Still, we will take a call after a having look at the wicket before the game."

Mumbai do have the batting advantage after the seasoned Wasim Jaffer and Ajinkya Rahane played their part against Delhi. And the Ajit Agarkar-led side have played two matches at Ferozshah Kotla while it will be the first game for Bengal, who have played all their previous games at the Palam ground.

Mumbai had an optional training session on Sunday where most players didn't turn up. But looking at their domestic record and their form in the tournament they will start as slight favourites.

Yuvraj’s chemotherapy almost complete

noreply@blogger.com (news...) — Tue, 13 Mar 2012 13:03:00 +0000

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing chemotherapy in Boston for a rare germ cell cancer, is in the last leg of his treatment and is eagerly waiting for it to end in the next four days.

The flamboyant left-hander has said that only four days are left for his chemotherapy.

“My last stretch 4 mor dys to go Can’t wait fr it to end Set me free dear lord,” Yuvraj tweeted.

Yuvraj had last month stated that the tumour between his lungs is almost out of his system.

Yuvraj, who has been in Boston since last month, is expected to be back on the field in the first week of May, according to his doctor.

The 30-year-old has gone bald during the treatment, which will go on till the last week of March before the process of rehabilitation starts in April.

After being diagnosed with the illness, Yuvraj has not played competitive cricket since taking part in two of three home Tests against the West Indies in November.

He has so far scored 8,051 runs in 274 one-dayers and 1,775 runs in 37 Tests since making his international debut in 2000.

He was named Player of the Tournament in the World Cup for scoring 362 runs and grabbing 15 wickets in nine matches.

During the treatment, Yuvraj had been paid a visit by legendary former Indian spinner Anil Kumble.

India's ' Great Wall' Dravid comes down

noreply@blogger.com (news...) — Sun, 11 Mar 2012 09:44:00 +0000

One of the world’s greatest batsmen and also one of its finest gentlemen is leaving the game — much to the chagrin of his teammates and opponents who held him in high esteem.

Rahul Dravid, who would have been India’s finest batsman had it not been for Sachin Tendulkar, has bowed out after 17 years. The elegant batsman, who was a joy to watch, will be best remembered for his rock-like concentration that earned him the nickname of ‘The Great Wall of India.’ The 39-year-old became the first batsman to score centuries in each of the 10 Test-playing nations and he carved out 13,288 Test runs, second only behind Tendulkar. Dravid also shared a world-record 19 Test century partnerships with his great teammate. He is the second of the golden generation of Indian batsmen to retire following in the footsteps of Saurav Ganguly, leaving Tendulkar and VVS Laxman at the crease. At the press conference in his hometown of Bangalore, he recalled of his childhood dream he shared with millions of Indians.

“Once I was like every other boy in India, with a dream of playing for my country. Yet I could never have imagined a journey so long and so fulfilling. I have had a wonderful time, but now it is time for a new generation of young players to make their own history and take the Indian cricket team even further.’’

Indian legends Sunil Gavaskar and Tendulkar were among the hundreds of former Test players and officials who paid tribute to Dravid.

“There was and is only one Rahul Dravid,” said Tendulkar. “There can be no other. I will miss Rahul in the dressing room and out in the middle.’’

Gavaskar added: “On and off the field, he was a terrific role model to youngsters with his work ethic, the way he carried himself and applied himself. He was the guy youngsters in the dressing room looked up to.’’

Aussie star Shane Watson added Dravid will be missed.

“He is probably the nicest guy, no, he is the nicest guy that I’ve met in cricket. He’s a phenomenal man. He loves the game with so much passion; it’s in his blood and in his heart. He is certainly going to be sorely missed by the Indian public and the cricket-loving public as well.”

VICIOUS SHOT, MATE

Here we go again. Former cricketer stars are making it a habit of taking shots at former teammates and teams to drum up sales for their books. Well, that’s fine, but I believe Australian batsman Greg Chappell overstepped the line during a promotional tour for his book Fierce Focus which was released a few days following India’s disastrous tour of Australia.

He ruffled more than a few feathers by taking a vicious swipe at Indian culture and the team. Most Indian critics decided it wasn’t worth a response considering the source. Chappell was booted out after two turbulent years as India’s national coach and, his stay as a selector of Australia’s team, was also short lived. That tells you something about the man.

“The (Indian) culture is very different; it’s not a team culture. They lack leaders in the team because they are not trained to be leaders. From an early age, their parents make all the decisions, their school teachers make their decisions, their cricket coaches make the decisions,’’ Chappell said.

“The Poms (British) taught them really well to keep their head down. For if someone was deemed to be responsible, they’d get punished. So the Indians have learned to avoid responsibility. So before taking responsibility for any decisions, they prefer not to.’’ But he compliments skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who he says is an exception to the rule. Indians have a great opportunity to hit back at Chappell where it hurts most — by boycotting the book en masse.

WATCH SRI LANKA

After 11 months of slumming near the bottom of one-day international cricket, Sri Lanka is back with a bang. The islanders gave the rampant Australians a tough fight in the three-match tri-series final before going down by a mere 16 runs in the decider in Adelaide. Their top-order batsmen were more than a match for the vaunted Australian pace attack with Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Upul Tharanga and new find Dinesh Chandimal all scoring at will. On the basis of their strong showing Down Under, Sri Lanka should be the team to watch in the four-nation Asian Cup that starts in Bangladesh today. But bookmaker Sky Bet has installed India as 13-8 favourite to win despite its recent horrendous tour Down Under. Pakistan is quoted at 7-4, Sri Lanka 2-1 and Bangladesh 33-1.

As one would expect, the focus will again be on Tendulkar. Will he or won’t he finally get that elusive 100th international century after being shut out on tours of England and Australia and by the West Indies? It will be a year later this month when he last scored a century and came in a World Cup game against South Africa in Nagpur. Pakistan, meanwhile, will have Aussie Dav Whatmore make his debut as its national coach.

SOUTH AFRICA HAS EDGE

New Zealand made a spirited reply as it chases a near-impossible task of scoring 401 to beat South Africa on the final day in the first Test at Dunedin. The home team reached 137 for two with Ross Taylor (48) and Brendon McCullum (58) at the crease. South Africa mad 238 and 435 for five declared after the Kiwis had posted 273 in their first knock. South Africa had three centurions in its second innings with skipper Graeme Smith making 115, Jacques Kallis 113 and Jacques Rudolph 105.

AUSSIES A TIRED BUNCH

The Australians are one tired bunch as they enter the final lap of what has been a long eight-month schedule that saw the team tour Sri Lanka, South Africa and then return home for competition against New Zealand, India and Sti Lanka. The squad arrived in the West Indies barely 12 hours after defeating Sri Lanka in Adelaide without skipper Michael Clarke who was ruled out of the first part of the tour with a hamstring injury.

Shane Watson will lead the team in Clarke’s absence in the first five ODIs and two T20 matches over a tight 15-day schedule. Aussies are hoping Clarke will return for the Test series beginning April 7.

“There’s no doubt there’s some guys that have played the whole summer who are going to be a little bit tired,” Watson said. “But in the end, that’s part and parcel of playing international cricket.’’ ... Condolences are pouring in for Runako Morton who was killed in a car accident in Trinidad. The 33-year-old Morton played 15 Tests (573 runs) and 56 ODIs (1,519 runs) for the Windies.

Clarke, Warner star for Aussies

noreply@blogger.com (news...) — Tue, 06 Mar 2012 09:01:00 +0000

Centuries by Michael Clarke and David Warner helped Australia set Sri Lanka 272 runs to win Tuesday's second tri-series final at Adelaide Oval.

Clarke, with a bad back, and Warner, with a dodgy groin, steered Australia to 6 for 271 from its 50 overs.

Captain Clarke (117) reached his ton from just 81 balls, while Warner passed a pre-match fitness test before making an even 100 to follow his 163 in Australia's win in Sunday's first final.

Clarke, frequently flexing his troublesome back, combined with Warner for a sterling 184-run partnership as Sri Lanka hampered its own bid to square the three-match series by dropping six catches.

The Australian duo united after Matthew Wade (14) and Shane Watson (15) were dismissed cheaply to leave the home side vulnerable at 2 for 56 in the 16th over.

But Clarke and Warner, through stealth rather than strength, reached a 150 stand from just 163 deliveries.

Clarke, clearly troubled by the back injury which forced him to miss two preliminary games, received three let-offs.

The most notable was on 77 when Lasith Malinga (3 for 40 from 10 overs) spilt a chance on the deep square leg boundary - the ball flicked the Sri Lankan's fingers on its way for six.

Malinga's blunder was the first of a stunning spree by Clarke who cracked six, four, six and four from successive Farveez Maharoof deliveries as Australia took 23 from the 44th over.

The flurry helped Clarke beat Warner to a century, the left-hander reaching his milestone from 138 balls but belying his powerhouse image by hitting just four fours and a six.

Clarke, who struck five fours and four sixes, hobbled from the field when run out after being unable to push his running between wickets in the latter stages of his 91-ball knock.

Clarke's 300 Runs Against India 2nd Test Match

noreply@blogger.com (???) — Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:11:00 +0000

Australian caption Michael Clarke played 329 runs knock created history in SCG. He was the first man to score triple century in Sydney Cricket Ground. His partnership with Mike Hussy took Australia 468 runs lead as result very strong position in the game. Hussy scored over 150 runs and became the third centurion in Australia's innings after Caption Michael Clark and Ricky Ponting.

Clarke was batting on 251 along with Mike Hussey (55) and Australia seemed to have batted India. Pressure on India now to perform well in this situation. A declaration could also be on Clarke's mind, but with more than half the Test still remaining, time is on his side.

Clarke was slow out of the blocks on day three, taking his time to get set once again, but by lunch he had played a few excellent strokes, including a drive through extra cover for four to go past Foster's record.

Australia have declared! Take a bow, Michael Clarke! He is batting on 329, and a 400 was surely on but he preferred to declare.
ustralia still went past 500 runs in the first hour, a feat they had done nearly 22 months and 17 Tests ago against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton in March 2010.

Virender Sehwag 200 runs vs West Indies Full Highlights

noreply@blogger.com (???) — Thu, 08 Dec 2011 12:15:00 +0000

Another great innings of Virender Sehwag against West Indies in today's match at Indore. Highest run scorer Virender sehwag caught out at 47th over at 219 runs which makes history after Sachin Tendulkar's 200runs not-out.
Two different things we saw at the beginning of this game First India choose to bat and Gambhir with Sehwag in the opening stand.
Huge score cross 400 as a target for West Indies very tough to chase. Each batsman from Indian side played their well knock. What a day for Virender Sehwag today a new record holder. A very determined person and very sensibly innings by him.
419 runs indias highest achieve ever in Cricket history.
Sehwag's effortless double-century creates history for the highest individual score in ODIs and also most important 2 Indians 2 double-centuries and both in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
In the mid of the innings i was expecting a decent play but sehwag's hurtbreaking strocks makes me to think 450 cross but 418 is a good total at the end.

Another good partnership by Gambhir-Sehwag of 176runs but little disappointing dismissel of Gambhir, he was run-out at 67 runs. I just hold my self on the batting power-play, wow what a great moment highest run scorer in the history of world ODI Cricket.

Sehwag says : " I just told my self that I needed to bat through the Batting Powerplay, and I would get the double hundred. When Sammy dropped my chance, I knew God was with me. I am tired, yes, I am an old man now." How people will want to age like him if he is old "

DC vs KKR match number 42nd of fourth season of Indian Premier League played at Hyderabad. The crowd was supporting Deccan Charges meanwhile DC won the toss and chose to ball first. The start by Kolkata Knight Riders was not so good Yusuf Pathan played well and set the good chasing target for Deccan Charges of 160 which was difficult to set up.

Yusuf pathan played very well and got 47 in just 26 balls. What a fabulous win by Kolkata Knight Riders over Deccan Charges and they desperately need the win and prove to be at the top of the points table.

The fielding effort of Deccan Charges was not up to mark they dropped three catches of Yusuf Pathan which proved them a heck out if it and because of this they have turn back. Sunny Sohal gave a good start to Deccan Charges but after he was out Kumar Sangakkara turned up and was out at thr first ball faced by him after that momentum could not be made up thats why they are struggling.
