We have the photographic evidence to prove it, too. A friend passed along the above image of a newly received Nexus awaiting activation. Our source says this particular store received twenty GNex handsets. When asked about a release date, a December 9th launch was once again confirmed.

Further lending credence to a release on the 9th is this recently uncovered document purporting to be a Verizon equipment update list. You will see 12/9 for the Galaxy Nexus as well as a 12/12 date for the Xyboard series of tablets and 12/22 for the Motorola Droid 4

T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread OTA Update Resumes

After a not-so-smooth attempt at rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread for T-Mobile G2X users, experience-breaking bugs ran rampant throughout users’ phones prompting T-Mobile and LG to suspend updates. It took quite a while for them to get things ironed out, actually, as I almost forgot that the T-Mobile G2x even exists. In any case, the Gingerbread rollout is back on for those who are sick of frozen treats. Alongside Gingerbread, you’re also apparently getting improved battery life for your troubles. Yay! They’d already given public confirmation of its existence before, even acknowledging it in a press release, but it’s all a bit more formal now. Coming sometime this month, the device will come in a few different configurations.

For the 8.2 inch Xyboard, you can get a 16GB version for $430 or a 32GB version for $530. For the 10.1 inch version, you can get 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models for $530, $630 and $730, respectively. All of these prices are after signing a new two-year agreement

Common specs for both include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, a 5 megapixel main camera, MOTOCAST and Android 3.2. They have also mentioned that the device will be getting the upgrade to Android 4.0 sometime down the line.

If you happen to be looking into any of these tablets and the DROID RAZR on two-year agreements, you can get $100 off of the tablets and $50 to use toward accessories. Not a bad deal if your life is going to be primarily Moto-filled. Verizon has also mentioned that the White DROID RAZR will launch this month. Touted as “a phone inside a camera,” the XT928 (also known as the Motorola Dinara doesn’t fit in so well with its RAZR brethren. With a blockier frame, slightly thicker body and complete absence of carbon fiber or kevlar accents, looks wise, it seems to have more in common with the Droid X than anything.

Also unlike the RAZR, the battery is now accessible through the removable cover making the device compatible with spare batteries. The XT928 also features a 4.5-inch 720p resolution screen that holds its own against the RAZR’s vivid AMOLED (and super washed out MT917 display).

Word on the street is the XT928 could be landing on AT&T but that’s not a very strong rumor. I would like to propose that this will hit Verizon as the Droid X3 complete with 4G LTE connectivity based upon absolutely nothing other than the looks of the device. Regardless of carrier, I wouldn’t mind seeing this hit stateside as Motorola has yet to release a device with a 1280×720 resolution display. With ever more time passing an focus shifted to other products such as the ASUS Transformer Prime, the tablet/phone combo has risked a slide into obscurity. Rest assured, ASUS still plans to release the handset — news broke this morning that a final announcement will be coming at Mobile World Congress in February of next year. While rumors have gone back and forth on the type of and number of cores possessed by the processor found in the upcoming device, word coming along with this latest scoop is that the Padfone will sport a quad-core Tegra 3 chip. The hardware should put the device in the same class as the Transformer Prime, but we’re excited to see what else ASUS has up their sleeve for MWC.

Samsung Launches Dual-Screened SCH-W999 for China Telecom

With two Super AMOLED displays, two SIM card slots, and two processor cores, the Samsung SCH-W999 is pretty much dual-everything. We first heard of the clamshell device a little over a month ago, but the W999 was recently officially announced for China Telecom. The unique form factor sees two 3.5-inch 480×800 Super AMOLED panels placed back to back, allowing the phone to be used as either a more traditional flip-phone or an all touch Android smartphone. It is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 chipset and comes with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface atop of Android 2.3. The W999 features a 5MP camera, Bluetooth 3.0, and WAPI.

With two slots for SIM cards, the handset sports both GSM and CDMA2000 and features world-ready penta-band support. Release date and pricing have not been finalized, but the W999 is expected to launch in 2012. For reference, the phone it will succeed, the W899, was priced at ¥8990 ($1,410).

NYC Samsung Experience Store has Verizon Galaxy Nexus on Display, not for Sale

If you live in or around the New York City area, the Samsung Experience flagship store located in the Shops at Columbus Circle has the still unreleased Verizon Galaxy Nexus on display. With SIM cards absent, you won’t be able to take the premier Ice Cream Sandwich handset for a spin on Big Red’s 4G LTE network, but a WiFi connection provides enough functionality to get a pretty good idea of how the phone and OS will handle.

Before you go making a cross-country pilgrimage to worship at the altar of Nexus, it is worth noting that a release later this week (December 8th or 8th) is looking more and more likely for the handset. If you do make the trek over to the Samsung Experience, do us all a favor and wipe the drool off that 4.65-inch HD display before handing it off to the next person.

AT&T Has Original Motorola Lapdock for Atrix on Sale at $50

Though most agreed that Motorola’s Webtop technology was one of the cooler things to emerge out of last year’s CES, the high price of accessories such as a Lapdock priced close to $500 kept many consumers from buying in. With an expanded lineup of Webtop-enabled phones and a new Lapdock range and adapted pricing on the way from Motorola, the original has seen a steep discount to a reasonable $50 when purchased through AT&T. That is a price more in line with what everyone had expected when the Lapdock concept was first announced. The site lists only the Atrix as compatible with the older model, though it might be worth further investigation to see if the device will also work with other handsets such as the Photon 4G on Sprint.

LG Nitro HD, White Galaxy S II Skyrocket Now Available at AT&T

As of yesterday, both the LG Nitro HD and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket in White are available through AT&T both online and in stores. Let’s try and piece everything together.

It’s been rumored that Samsung could be getting out of the PC business but has reportedly extended their partnership with Intel. Strange, what would a renewed partnership with Intel bring? You guessed it — smartphones.

We told you guys a few weeks back that Intel was waiting on Ice Cream Sandwich before arriving on the scene with an Android smartphone and today, PCWorld is reporting that Intel already has Android 4.0 up and running on a device powered by their Atom processor (also known as Medfield) and is currently working with manufacturers to get everything optimized on those devices.

Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini, is scheduled to give a keynote at CES 2012 and has been touting to AllThingsD, their Atom processor’s superiority over ARM’s chips in graphics, javascript and browser performance. Not so much in the battery department (no surprise there) where they came in around 3rd and 4th.

Intel wont be the only ones dropping bombs at CES. Sprint too, is gearing up for a big announcement January 10th at CES and what else could it be but another one of their famous “industry first” keynotes announcing an Intel powered smartphone running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich? I know it sounds crazy — crazy like a FOX.

Exciting things in store for next year and you can rest assured knowing the entire Phandroid team will be on hand at CES 2012 bringing you guys all the latest in just a little more than 40 days. And what we’ve got for you is the Sony Ericsson Nozomi (LT26i). This device was actually pictured awhile back and since then, but this is the first we’re seeing it in an official render. You can see in the (very) small image that a few of the official specs have been cropped out but if you look carefully, “Dual-core” can be made out. Also, since Nozomi is most likely an internal name for the device the official name could be Xperia Cloud but it’s hard to tell with 75% of the device’s name cropped out.

The Nozomi is rumored to be Sony Ericsson’s new dual-core offering featuring a 720p screen and in a new turn of events, seemingly running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Can’t wait to see how the boys over at SE sex-up the Timescape UI on ICS. No word yet on pricing or availability but I am definitely drooling over here.

Verizon Continues to Prep Site for Galaxy Nexus Launch, Hi-Res Image Uploaded

A couple days back a user YTram over at Android Forums uncovered new images of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus stored away in the backend of Verizon’s site. In his continued search for new info on the upcoming handset he has found yet another, this time a hi-res press shot (click to get an even bigger view) giving us a full-frontal look at G-Nex. Worth noting is that the header associated with the file logs a last-modified date of December 1st, showing that Verizon is actively preparing for the eventual announcement of the phone’s release date. So, enjoy their all new video (and product site) that gives a more in depth look of the Prime and when your friends/family ask what tablet they should get for the holiday season — let this video do the talking.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Now Optimized For AMD APU’s

It was only a few weeks ago I showed you some videos of Android 3.1 Honeycomb that had been ported to PC’s and laptops running on Intel processors. Well, just like I speculated in my post — the boys over at the Android-x86 project have done it again, this time releasing Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich into the wild for PC’s. But why should Intel users get all the fun? This time around, those crafty Android-x86 devs have managed to bring AMD into the fold with Android’s hardware acceleration optimized for their low power consuming APU (CPU/GPU combo). Needless to say, AMD fanboys are more than excited at the possibilities this opens up for AMD based tablets and hardware running the Android OS.

ARM has all but monopolized the mobile space with their processors running on just about every Android device in existence, dating all the way back to the Godfather — the G1. AMD provides a great alternative to ARM with their APU’s using significantly less power than say, their rival, Intel. Ice Cream Sandwich essentially a rebirth of the Android platform and I can’t even tell you how excited I am at what the future holds for the OS. It’s a great time to be alive.

ASUS Eee Pad MeMo Launching In January – Ice Cream Sandwich and Included Phone Ready To Go

You may remember when we showed you the ASUS Eee Pad MeMo along side the Padfone back at trade show in China a few months back. Well, thanks to our friends at Netbooknews — who gave us the Transformer Prime launch date a few hours ago — we now know the ASUS Eee Pad MeMo is scheduled to hit market sometime in January.

The Eee Pad MeMo is a 7-inch tablet that will have Ice Cream Sandwich ready to boot at launch and an included Bluetooth “MeMic” remote/phone complete with a futuristic transparent glass display. The little mini phone can be used to makes calls, listen to music or control whatever media is on your tablet — all completely wire-free.

While I appreciate the lengths ASUS is going to innovate their Android tablets, I’m still unsure if the included Bluetooth mini-phone is a novelty or something that could be truly useful when paired with a tablet. What do you guys think? The 10-inch tab — which is apparently a Xoom knockoff (I don’t see it) — runs Android 4.0 surprisingly well, thanks mostly in part to its (can we start calling it last generation yet?) Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor. The rest of the hardware isn’t too shabby either with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a pair of cameras, GPS, HMDMI and a 3G SIM card slot. Pretty much the whole shibang.

The tablet doesn’t come equipped with the usual Google apps and the company showing off the tablet has yet to release pricing or availability but the source did say it would be “not so expensive.” I think it’s pretty neat to see how much better Ice Cream Sandwich will make the world — even for cheaper “kockoff” devices like this. A problem with the sound quality of said audio. While the HTC Rezound we had a chance to review passed the sound quality test with flying colors, a growing number of owners are reporting a static interference heard when plugging in a set of headphones. This includes both the included Beats Audio headphones and other brands as well.

While no clear explanation for the problem is known, the hope is a fix can be attained via a software update. A worst-case scenario would have improper shielding within the device creating RF interference with the audio signal.

Verizon Motorola XOOM Receiving Software Update to Enable Pay-as-You-Go Plans

The Motorola XOOM for Verizon is receiving a small (8MB small) update as of today. Given the minute size, don’t expect any big feature changes. It’s looking like the only major adjustment is an under-the-hood change allowing the tablet to be activated on Verizon’s month-to-month 4G LTE plans. The update provides a good option for those not wanting to lock their tablet choice down for two years, and considering the ever dropping price of the XOOM it comes at the perfect time.

Dish Network Advertising Logitech Revue with Android 3.1, Update Nowhere to Be Found

Shortly before Google announced the rollout of Android 3.1 for Google TV (Google TV 2.0), Logitech began shipping their final batch of Revue set-top boxes with a sticker advertising the new software. The manufacturer confirmed with us that the new version of Android did not come installed out of the box and would rather touch down as an over-the-air update at a later point. With Sony devices already receiving the new version of Google TV along with access to the Android Market, owners of Logitech boxes have been left out in the cold.

Further adding to the confusion, Google TV partner DISH Network is now advertising the Logitech Revue as shipping with the latest update and access to “the apps you love.” This simply isn’t the case, not at the moment. Anyone buying the Revue on grounds of the newly advertised features will be disappointed out of the box. The most they can offer us is an update on the status of the Android 3.1 software for the Revue, which is now said to be coming by the end of the year.

We like the Logitech Revue and eagerly await the fresh Google TV 2.0 makeover, but for anyone receiving the Revue as a gift this holiday season it might not have the functionality advertised. It’s just a smaller side effect of the larger issue of Android fragmentation. Despite Google’s best efforts to unify their platform, manufacturers are not delivering updates in the timeliest of fashion. It hasn’t been the kiss of death for Android phones, but for a struggling platform like Google TV it doesn’t help one bit. We understand that Logitech had to get their last batch of Revue boxes out to retailers in time for the holiday shopping season, but slapping the “Android 3.1″ sticker on top might have been a bit premature.

Motorola Gives Droid RAZR Owners an App to Find their Car

If you frequently find it difficult to remember where you left your car, there are quite a few apps to choose from. If you are a Motorola Droid RAZR owner there is one specifically designed for you. The free app “Motorola Car Finder” is available now for those often wondering “was my car towed/stolen or am I in the wrong place?” The description lists only the RAZR as compatible at the moment, but we expect Moto will make this one available for other Android handsets as well, including the Bionic and Droid series.
