AQUABASE meets a Whale Shark off Kuching while diving

During the diving season from April up to September, diving here in Kuching of Sarawak brings a lot of unbelievable chances to see many different marine lives on each different dive points. Manta Ray, Dolphins, Sea Turtles…The other day, while being underwater at one of our famous dive sites off Kuching, a cute whale shark took some remoras with her suddenly appeared and even came to divers as if she wanted to greet and say hello!! to us. Whale sharks coming to Kota Kinabalu every year are quite famous for divers but not in Kuching. And all of us including our dive master were surprised her super friendly attitude toward us because she was not scared at all and rather she seemed to play with us forever. The whale shark was with us underwater for about 15minutes or so. And more surprisingly, even we are on the surface interval, she was swimming around the boat for another 15minutes. Amazing! Just amazing! We thank the wonderful gift from Kuching’s underwater. Unfortunately, none of us didn’t bring underwater camera with us while scuba diving but these were taken while we were on the boat. Our guest from Europe did played with here with snorkel for a while..

Kuching's shipwreck diving

Underwater and water sports professional, AQUABASE of Kuching, Sarawak offers now variety of activities that are not only diving but also coastal canoes, water rides, Bako national park boat trip, Satang Island Hopping & Snorkeling, and Sunset Safari River Cruise departing from Damai Puri Resort & Spa where its famous as one of the main hotels for the rainforest Jazz festival.

For the diving, during the season from April to September, we operate to the fun dive sites which are deep international shipwrecks from World War 2. The huge Japanese battle ship, sagiri is the only 40 min distance from our hotel. 2 dives per a day is the diving style here but another 1 dive can be added upon your request at other dive sites off Kuching. Many local divers had to charter the very slow local fisherman’s boat to the dive sites but now it is much faster than ever by AQUABASE speed boat.

“Sagiri” still keep the canons on the front deck and it looks like it has the bullet in it. It is sunken at the depth of 28 - 30m and has 20-25m viability when it’s highly good. Water temperature is very high as it keeps 28degree centigrade. Other famous shipwreck, “Katorimaru” in Kuching is also available here in Kuching and even mixture of those shipwreck diving must be the best choice of your diving holiday. We went to Satang Island in Kuching of Borneo today for snorkeling & Canoeing with a family from Australia.

The Island staff mentioned that turtle will come back to the island on next month. AQUABASE often operates Satang Island Hopping tour as well as scuba diving trip. The visibility seems to be going up in May. That’s when exactly the diving season is on.
