Happy new year with 10% off in my shop.

Hope you all had a lovely start to the new year! We went to the beach at midnight, for some rather too far away fireworks, but it was still a nice way to ring in 2012.

I painted a few kittens. It's a bit funny, because my sketchbook has very dull colours leading up to these pages.

I also photographed the progress of "Bowie". Thought maybe it would be interesting to someone. It's here.

I've ordered these to be made as postcards already, hopefully they will arrive soon. :)

In not-art news, I have a brand new glasses/contact prescription, and I can see again! Seeing tree leaves, feathers on birds, and things like that, is completely wonderful. :)

So, here is a small post about Finders Keepers. It was a really beautiful event, and it's things like this that make me realise what a long way QLD has come! If you've never been to Finders Keepers, you have to go to one.

Here are two excellent photos of our stall by Elleni Toumpas.

And two not very good ones from my iphone (I forgot the camera, unfortunately.)

I've updated my shop with most of the stuff from the market. I'll make an update about this later, but just wanted to give a heads up! Almost all of the wooden stuff is in there, and zines, etc.

Our neighbour was lovely Nikki from The Encouragement Award.

Finally, some of you know that my beautiful Grandma passed away on the 31st of October. Her funeral was the day before the markets took place. It was a lovely ceremony, but, as you know, it's difficult to say goodbye. So, the one thing I do want to say, is thank you to everyone, new and old friends who dropped by to see us that weekend. It meant a lot to me.

So, it's been pretty quiet on the blog here because, we (Me plus Heiko) will be sharing a stall at the Spring/Summer 2011 Finders Keepers Markets in Brisbane. We're so excited about it! Nervous, too, it will be our first stall anywhere, ever! We're working hard to get stock ready for it.

I'll put the flyer up closer to the date, but for now here's a sort of mish mashy post of instagram photos & a few normal snaps, from the last few weeks.

Elk espresso, where we met up with the lovely and talented Holly Jayne, and her cute baby boy. Heiko had the "kick arse" milkshake, which I ended up coveting.

Domestic Etch! This mag has interviews with two of my fave artists, Mel Stringer and Stacey Rozich, in it. Plus, it has no ads, I have to say, I was so impressed with it. It's quite an awesome mag.

Elizabeth, of Domestic Etch, was also kind enough to put my work in it!

My partner in crime, my favourite pacer died, after about 10 years. (I admit that I felt upset about this, and yes, thank you, I realise how utterly ridiculous that is.) I found the exact model on eBay the same night. Thank you, internet.

Trying on a panda mask at Spotlight. I might go as this for a Halloween party, because I can't be bothered make a costume. Lame, I know. Costume suggestions are welcome!

So that's all. I use twitter and instagram quite a bit now (username is lillypiri on both), for those who use it, too. Just find it much easier than resizing images for the blog!

My new project - little wooden animals

Well, hello, it's been a while! We went to Melbourne for two weeks, and just before we came home, we found out we got accepted to an art/design market, hence the lack of blogging (Look out for us in November, Brisbanites!)

This was a project I started working on when we arrived in Oz, but have been thinking about for years. I've always admired German wooden toy animals/ornaments, but wanted to make my own, especially, ones with australian animals. Mine are minimalist in the way they are cut, and would run more along the lines of a Schockvieh - shocking beast. I hope you'll like them, because I'm having the best time making them! I design, cut the wood on the scroll saw, sand, paint, glue, seal, & ribbon them myself.

I have heaps more to come, which I'll show soon. I'll be uploading them to Etsy, in the future, but for now I'm trying to hoard as many as possible for the market!

You might not be able to see it, but that's shiny gold paint on the horns!

During our last summer stay in Saxony, we visited galleries, castles and royal hunting lodges. One of the many things I found fascinating were the huge portraits of hunting dogs, sometimes larger than life. During all of those trips, Pitti, the dog, came along, too. This is also inspired by our recent relocation and all the things that come with it. I won't say much else, it's probably more interesting for the viewer to make their own guesses.

This is also my entry for the Border Art Prize.

Below you can see all kinds of in between photos and my cut out studies plus a small canvas study. I made studies at the beach, and had previous studies of Pitti (the dog) in my sketchbook.

This approach might seem laborious if you compare it to just lashing out at a canvas, but for me it meant being able to solve problems before moving onto the final canvas, and therefore being able to paint confidently. I got the idea to make small detailed studies from this video of Todd Schorr talking about his technique.

Added a few new things (including the bunny) to the shop, and reactivated a few of the portrait items. I think I actually got a headache trying to work out the shipping on those! Otherwise, more things are coming soon. I've begun working on a zine that I started last year, just have to try not to get all perfectionist on it or I will never finish it.
