Grand Opening: Pink Lion Boutique

Wow, it has been way too long since I have blogged! I guess I had a baby and just decided to give it up for a while, but I'm back! That's the most important part, right??

Anyways, what I have been up to? I have been in mom mode hard for the past 2 years and I'm ready to get back in the game! So, what am I talking about here, how am I going to get back in the game? Well let me tell you...

I have been working on a super exciting new project that I absolutely can't wait to share with the world (aka internet). I am opening my own clothing boutique on Facebook called Pink Lion Boutique. My goal is to bring women fashionable clothes at reasonable prices. First off, I love shopping and secondly I want to help empower women and help them feel good about themselves. I absolutely love shopping, but over the past 2 years I really haven't had the ability to fully enjoy it since I have a kid. If you have a child under the age of 5, you will totally understand what I'm talking about here! Trying on clothes in a dressing room with a screaming toddler isn't exactly the most enjoyable shopping experience.

Below is a little sneak peak of a few items that I will be carrying. Can you say ruffles, lace floral and pink? That's basically the requirement that each piece of clothing needs in order for me carry it. Also, I'm focusing mostly on items that are made in the great U S of A. I literally want to keep one of every single item I have.

Birthday Brownie Truffles

I know, I know... it's October and everyone is in the mood for Halloween stuff and fall recipes, but I just had to throw in a new favorite recipe of mine that I made for my Mother-In-Law's Birthday. The good thing about these is that you could just dip them in orange chocolate and decorate with Halloween sprinkles to make them seasonally relevant. Or you can just make them pink because pink is pretty and who doesn't like to each chocolate dipped in pink chocolate?? Did I just say the word "pink" enough? I think I did, okay I'm done, for now.... Can you guess what my favorite color is?

Ingredients:
Box Brownie Mix - Ghiradelli Double Chocolate is my favorite
Eggs & Vegetable Oil, for brownies
2 oz Cream Cheese
Wilton Pink Melting Chocolate
Sprinkles of your choice

Directions:
Bake the Brownies per the instructions on the box. This may vary depending on which box you buy. Be careful not to overbake these.

Once the brownies are cooled cut off the crust and place the brownies into a bowl with the 2 oz of cream cheese. {I know, 2 oz is a weird amount but I honestly just cut off about a quarter of the block and used that}.

Mix the brownies and cream cheese together. I used a spoon, but it might have been easier just to use the KitchenAid.

Place wax paper onto a cookie sheet. Use a cookie scoop and roll brownie mixture into balls. I made 21 balls. Put brownie balls into freezer and let cool for 30 minutes.

Melt chocolate using a double broiler. Now if you're like me and don't have a double-broiler you can either use a glass bowl on top of a pot with 2 inches of boiling water or a pan on top of a pan. Make sure the water is not touching the bottom of the pan. Stir frequently until the chocolate is melted.

Throw brownie balls into melted chocolate one at a time. Use a fork to fish out the brownie and tap it on the side of the bowl to get off excess chocolate. Sprinkle immediately.

TIPS:
Use a Cookie Scoop, this thing is a life changer! You can use it to make cookies, cupcakes, cake balls, ice cream scoop I use it all the time. Buy one here -

I have been melting chocolate for a long time and I always used the Microwave, DO NOT USE THE MICROWAVE! I can't tell you how many times I have messed up my chocolate because I overheated it.

DIY Lucite Tray for less than 5 Bucks

Lucite seems to be really popular now a days. From lucite chairs and tables to home decor and accessories. I really love the look of the lucite chairs, but unfortunately the style doesn't really fit into my house. I don't really know what my style is, but lucite furniture is a little more modern than my taste. That's not to say though that I can't add a little touch of this style in a small way.

I currently have this tray in my spare bedroom with a jar of candy on it for my guests. If you know me, you know that I LOVE CANDY, so 99% of the time this jar is empty and has to be refilled the day a guest is arriving. Currently crushing on Nerds, as you can see in the picture!

All you need to make this tray is:

A Plastic Picture Frame (They are sold at Michaels for a couple bucks)

A Piece of scrapbook paper

Cut the piece of scrapbook paper to size and lay in tray.

The great thing about this is that you can change the paper whenever you wan to go for a different look and it's less than a dollar! For this time of year, if I have anyone coming to visit I will change it to something Halloween themed and there ya go. A cheap seasonal decoration too!

Gold Glitter Dipped Mason Jar

This is one of my favorite projects that I've done lately. It's so pretty, simple and cheap which is the best part about this. I think just by looking at this project you could figure out how to do it on your own, but I'll go ahead and give you instructions for those that aren't so Crafty Savvy. That's okay if your not, actually even better because this craft is for you!

Supplies:
Mason Jar {I bought mine from Dollar Tree $1}
Gold Paint {Rustoleum}
Mod Podge
Glitter
Sponge Brush

Spray Paint Mason Jar and let dry overnight. Using the sponge brush (sorry mine has been used a couple times, you can tell from the picture) paint mod podge along the bottom of the jar. Pour glitter over Mod Podge.

I used a plate to catch the extra glitter, but the best thing to use is foil so you can just pour all the excess right back in the glitter jar.

There you have it. A pretty glittery mason jar. I think I might make some more, but maybe in light pink, what do you think? What colors would you do?

And because my kitty was feeling a little left out, I had to take a few pictures of him too. Poor little Ben! I promise he is not some sad lonely little kitty like he looks in this picture. He is a little prince and received treats about 10 times a day and lays his head to rest on MY PILLOW in a king size bed. I assure you this cat is well taken care of!

Quick Weeknight Hot Soup

My mom used to make this recipe all the time growing up, but I wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole! It was the plainest plain potato soup (which I still love) or hot soup. I really don't like tomato juice, so I always figured I wouldn't like this soup. WRONG! My mom made it last year and I absolutely loved it. Not only is it the perfect fall soup, but it's also super simple. Win-win, right?

Ingredients:
1 pound Ground Beef
1 Bottle V8 {original or spicy}
3 Cans Minestrone
1 Can Rotel
1 Tsp Cayenne {Optional}
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Brown ground beef. Mix all ingredients in a large pot and let simmer for 10 - 15 minutes. The best part about this recipe is that it tastes even better the next day.

How to get the PERFECT Shredded Chicken

By no means am I a chef or even anything close to that! However, thanks to Pinterest I have found the easiest way to shred chicken. I'm not going to lie sometimes the clean-up ALMOST isn't worth the hassle, but I assure you it is.

I use shredded chicken for all sorts of recipes. Some of my favorites are chicken spaghetti, soups, flautas, burritos, burrito bowls - really anything! One thing I really don't like when making a recipe with chicken in it is a huge chunk of bird stuck in the middle of my meal (too graphic, sorry!) Anywho, this is a perfect solution.

You can have the chicken shredded in larger chunks if you want or you can shred it super thin.

Normally I boil my chicken for about 20 minutes until the middle is no longer pink. Then you just throw the whole chicken breasts into your KitchenAid with the paddle attachment and mix on low to desired consistency.

TADAAA! Not rocket-science or anything but a nice little tip. Can also ensure your husband that you REALLY ARE using that expensive kitchen appliance that you just HAD TO HAVE. Win-win for everyone!

Pumpkin Rice Krispy Treats

Don't worry, these aren't pumpkin-flavored rice krispy treats, just your plain ole treat shaped like a pumpkin. Unfortunately I don't like pumpkin, so around this time of year I get jealous that everyone is eating pumpkin flavored food and drinking pumpkin-spiced beverages. So I do the next best thing, make something that looks like pumpkins. That'll do...

Ingredients:
6 cups Rice Krispy Treats
5 TBSP Butter
1 10 oz pkg marshmallows
Orange Food Coloring
Tootsie Rolls
Vanilla Frosting & Green Food Coloring

Melt butter in a saucepan, once melted add the marshmallows. Once both are melted add in a few drops of orange food coloring. Stir in Rice Krispies.

Using a spoon scoop out some of the treats and roll them into balls. Press1/2 a small tootsie roll into the top of each ball. Add green food coloring to frosting and pipe on leaves. You can just use a ziploc bag and cut a small slit in the corner of the bag to pipe frosting on.

DIY Yarn-Wrapped Bottles

If you have a few bottles of wine every now and then, you should have some empty bottles sitting around just asking to be DIY'd. There are only about a million and fifty different projects on Pinterest that you could do with wine bottles, but this is easy and cheap!

Supplies:
Empty Wine Bottles (I used a whiskey and a wine bottle)
Yarn
Elmers Glue
Flowers (Pre-made from Hobby Lobby)

Instructions:
All you do is run a line of glue down the side of the bottle and start wrapping. Literally that's it! Easy-peasy/Lemon-Cheesie (what the heck does that even mean...)

What I like about this project is that it's so simple and you could do any color of yarn to make it more seasonal. I'm thinking about doing some red and green yarn for christmas and maybe hanging some ornaments off the top. I know, it's only September and I'm already talking about Christmas, but I'm excited! Christmas is my favorite time of the year!

Every since I got a Canon Rebel for Christmas I have been slowly, but surely learning to use it. I would like to say that I've always considered myself somewhat creative and photography is the perfect outlet. Mostly I take pictures of my little guy, but I had the privilege of taking pics for my brother and his fiance.

10 Fall DIY Projects I'm Dying to Try

I've really been itching to do some more DIY projects. With an 8 month old son that's getting close to walking and refuses to take naps longer than 45 minutes, my time is really limited. However, that doesn't stop me from pinning and dreaming about my next project that I may or may not ever have time for.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispy Treats

I'm a huge fan of any recipe that has the ingredients Chocolate and Peanut Butter. I'm taking it back to one of my childhood favorites, Rice Krispy Treats. I mean who doesn't like rice krispy treats?

Ingredients:
6 cups Rice Krispies
6 TBSP Butter (yes, I double this from the original Recipe)
4 cups OR 10 oz Bag of Mini Marshmallows
1/2 Cup Melted Milk Chocolate Chocolate Chips
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter

Directions:
Heat butter on the stove, once melted add marshmallows {Continuously stir so it doesn't burn}
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave 30 - 60 seconds
ADD Melted chocolate chips and Peanut Butter to the Marshmallow/Butter mixture
Once everything is combined, remove from heat and add Rice Krispies
Spray a 13X9 pan with Pam and press treats into pan
Let harden and ENJOY!

This skirt is another oldie, but goodie. It's one of the first skirts that I posted on my blog, check out the original post. For some reason, I have hung on to it all these years, but yet I still am loving it.

After gaining 50 lbs with a baby I was afraid it would never fit again, but thankfully I held on to it and it still fits!! Both the top and the skirt is from Marshalls. If I remember correctly the skirt was only $14.99 and the top was $16.99. My wedges are also from several years ago that I wear all the time! Let's just consider these "Free" since they are so old, LOL!

Maxi Dress: KLR Remix

Have you ever thought about just putting a t-shirt over your regular maxi dress? Gives it a whole new look! I just tied-up the side and voila - a totally new dress! You could even add a thick belt around the middle and you wouldn't even be able to tell that it's 2 separate pieces.

I'm re-mixing the Champs Maxi from Kiki La Rue. You can read all out this dress here.

Lately I've really been trying to restyle either new pieces that I've bought or old ones. You see, my addiction is shopping. I love shopping, I love buying stuff just to buy stuff even if I don't need it. Online shopping is even becoming more fun now that I'm a stay at home mom and I can just point and click during nap time. HOWEVER, since I am a stay at home mom I can't just go out and buy whatever I want whenever I want. I also don't have nearly as much time to go and dig through the racks at Marshalls and Ross like I used to. Remixing pieces and making them new again helps to satisfy my shopping addiction and need to always have something new.

What's your addiction? Do you like shopping as much as I do?

Cardigan {Kiki La Rue} / Blouse {Target} / Crops {American Eagle} / Shoes {Target}

Showcasing another Kiki La Rue piece today. This Peach Tulip Cardigan is lightweight, so soft and is the perfect color. I know the colors in my pictures make it look light pink, but it's really a light peach color. It's also the perfect length and covers my tush which I really like. I literally can not wait to wear this with jeggings and riding boots. I feel like you could also style it a ton of different ways. I'm thinking maybe a plaid top underneath would be really cute too.

I find myself always wearing cardigans like this in the fall and winter and even wearing them around the house with a tank and yoga pants.

Piko tops have been all the rage this season and are so versatile! I love that you can wear them in so many different ways! Not only are they super versatile, but they also hide the after-baby bulge!

If you know me really well, you know that I am a jeans and a t-shirt kinda gal. T-shirts are my go to staple and a Piko top is the perfect way to dress things up a little more.

I think the look without the belt is my favorite, what do you think?

Why I should be a Kiki La Rue Ambassador

As some of you may already know, my favorite online boutique is Kiki La Rue. If you haven't heard of them, then shame on you! This is your chance to get to know them.

A few weeks ago they put a call out for Brand Ambassadors. First of all I LOVE this boutique and second of all I have a love for clothes and all things fashion! This sounds like the perfect job for me! I had been following their page for an entire year until I finally decided to pull the trigger and make my first purchase. I swore last year that if the Champs Maxi came back I would buy it. The second I saw that they were back I made the purchase. I received the dress within 2 days of my order (I live really close to their warehouse) and was so happy with the purchase.

The fabric is really soft and it has just the right amount of flowiness to hide anything that you don't want seen. I just had a baby in January and putting on the Champs Maxi made me feel really pretty for the first time in a REALLY long time. For those of you that have a baby, you can probably relate to the postpartum ugly feeling. I feel like my eyes lit up in this dress and I knew I was hooked on this boutique.

The Champs is only the first of several other purchases. This Daisy Mae Maxi shown above makes feel so girly and beautiful! The chrochet detail at the top is even more stunning in person than in the photos. All of their clothes put an instant smile on my face.

What I love most about KLR is they put real girls in real clothes. I get so sick of looking at clothes online and see stick figure girls model everything. Well how in the world do I know that's going to look good on me? Most of the time when I order something online and get it, it doesn't fit at all and never is really what I was wanting. With KLR you never have to worry about this, if you have a question about sizes just post a question on Instagram or shoot them an email and they will respond promptly.

When I'm passionate about something I know I can endorse it! I know for a fact that I would be a great Brand Ambassador for KLR. I truly believe that KLR isn't just a piece of clothing, but it's a feeling and an emotion that I think every girl should be able to experience. I want to have the opportunity to share that experience with other girls. Everyone deserves to look and feel beautiful. Lately I've been finding some really good deals at Target. I suppose it's because they are switching seasons, but either way I don't care why, I just know that I am taking full advantage!

2 Wallets from Target $2 Each. The pink one reminds me of something from Kate Spade and I LOVE IT!

Does anyone remember Creme Savers? I just found them at Market Street the other day and my friend Nikki and I ate an entire bag in 1 day. So good!

Another Target Steal! I thought it was tape, but it's just trim that you have to glue down. I'm sure I will find some use for this since I'm starting to craft more!

Adorable make your own cards. I've been making an effort to send cards more frequently, so I thought these were perfect. Especially considering the fact that one card is $5. The Bargainista strikes again...

Last, but not least I loved getting a KLR koozie in my last order. It's already been used numerous times. It makes a Michelob Ultra look much more fancy!

Hello Pre-Pregnancy Clothes!

I've had 6 months to get back to my post-partum body and I'm happy to say I'm finally down to my pre-pregnancy size. Am I telling you this to brag? Absolutely not, I'm telling you so I can talk about my weight-loss journey and what it's REALLY like after having a baby.

During pregnancy I was one of those girls that decided to just kinda eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted (see picture below)... I figured it's the one time in your life when you can gain weight and everyone talks about how cute you look. Awh, you just ate 10 cupcakes, that's so cute, I mean "you're eating for 2"... I just wanted to live it up and enjoy each and every one of those little compliments I received.

I ended up gaining a whopping 50 pounds, but my doctor didn't seem to be concerned, so I wasn't either..

After having Dax, I thought dang I feel like I've already lost all my weight, this is awesome! When I got home from the hospital I made the mistake of weighing myself and I had only lost 3 lbs!! 3 pounds, WTF??? Dax weighed more than 3 pounds, so what is the problem?

I decided to nurse, so this is one of the things that kept me motivated in the beginning to continue through the pain. At first I wasn't really losing much weight, but after 3 months I had dropped 30 lbs, which was good, but I thought it would all come off a lot quicker.

I still had those nagging 20 lbs left to lose and unfortunately was a bridesmaid in a wedding 3 months post-partum and felt absolutely terrible about myself! After the wedding I decided I really wasn't going to think about it too much, it's hard to diet when you are nursing because you don't want to lose any of your milk supply.

So, after not caring as much about it, but eating a little healthier (more fruits & veggies, salad for atleast one meal a day) I am finally back to my post-partum weight! This has added a TON of options back to my wardrobe and I think that's what I'm most excited about! I still would like to lose another 10 lbs, but again I'm not going to stress about it and hopefully they will fall out like the other 50 lbs did.

Mostly I just want to get across the message that you may or may not lose the weight as fast as you thought you would. Also, after having a baby your body will never be the same again! It's a new body that you have to learn to love.

The Purpose of A Selfie

I was watching The Kardashians this week and Kim kept taking selfies while she was on vacation in Thailand and for some reason it almost "normalized" her to me. I mean we all take selfies and she does it shamelessly! I kinda love it, but kinda hate it at the same time because she is so self-absorbed.

Watching this just got me thinking about selfies... What is the purpose of selfies? Here's my take on the selfie trend!

They make you feel good about yourself and boost your confidence
You can take 50 pictures first and then you will get ATLEAST one of them that looks amazeballs!
You don't have to worry about another person in your picture getting antsy and not wanting to take more pictures
You can immediately show friends on social media how good you are looking (refer to #1 for how this will make you feel)
It can remind you how good you don't look and will motivate you to go shower and get ready for the day

What do you think about selfies? Are they A-Okay or just self-absorbed ways of making yourself feel better?

Diaries Of A Bargainista: The "Mom" Shorts

I finally took some time to go through my dresser and decided it was finally time to get rid of my short short short shorts! Shorts that cup the bottom of my butt cheeks aren't really appropriate for me anymore. I decided it was time to invest in shorts that are a little bit longer and "mom" appropriate. Waaa, waaa........

I went to Old Navy because I've had really good luck with shorts there, but unfortunately they didn't have any of the 3.5" shorts ANYWHERE! Ugh, well I tried on the 5" length and I figured okay, these aren't too bad, so I decided to buy them. The fact that they were only $10 was nice little perk too!

Lets also talk for a minute about this pink necklace that I'm wearing. Let me introduce to you Chewbeads! It's actually a teething necklace that I use for my son. When I leave the house it's so nice to have this necklace for the little man to chew on, he absolutely loves it! The only thing that I wish is that I had every single color! I tend to wear white or black shirts a lot now just so I can wear the necklace. I also love that it's not just functional it's fashionable!

I was at Nordstrom the other day with my friend and she told me about this Sippy Cup that her son loves. You see, once you become a mom there are products that you waste a TON of money on until you find the right one. "Mom Referrals" are the best and you know that you can't go wrong!

This cup is called Zoli and what makes it so special is that the bottom of the straw is weighted so when your child lifts the cup the straw is still in the liquid, genius right?

The first day we used this cup my son just gnawed on the straw and he thought it was a toy. Day one, not gonna give up, it takes a little bit of time for a baby to figure out something new. Day two, he was sucking out of the straw like he had been doing this from day one. He absolutely loves it.

I absolutely love the print of this dress. Such a light-airy fun summery dress. I probably bought this dress 5 years ago, I'm literally not exaggerating. I have absolutely no clue where it even came from! I remember I wore it when my mom and I went to San Antonio and that was a LONG time ago. Any who, I'm just glad that it still fits. This is a good example of just buying staple pieces that aren't too trendy so you can wear them for years to come. I'm not saying this piece is fashionable, but the print and the colors make is summery, so I think it's a win-win!
