Bráless Is Best? Why Wearing Bras Is Bad For Women

A 15-year study has revealed that brás provide no benefit at all to the bréast but rather makes them sag and does little to alleviate back pain.

According to the study, women who wear brás have saggier bréasts than women who don’t.

The French study follows findings from British researchers that suggest brás might pose cancer risks.

Cardiff University Prof. Robert Mansel and Simon Cawthorn, from Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, asked 100 women to ban their brás for three months and then return to wearing one for another three months.

On average, the women were pain free more (about seven percent more) without a brá.

Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, from the University of Besancon, who led the 15-year study into women’s bréasts said, “Medically, physiologically, anatomically, bréasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a brá”.

The lengthy study involved 330 women aged 18-35, whose bréasts were measured at regular intervals with a slide rule and caliper.

The study found that women who went bráless had better muscle tone and higher lift than those who wore brás.

Those who didn't wear brás saw a nípple lift of about 7 mm a year towards the shoulder. Their bréasts also became firmer, and stretch marks faded.

The research is still preliminary, Rouillon said, adding that he doesn't advise all women to stop wearing brás, at least not yet.

One of the women who participated said, “ I breathe more easily. I carry myself better and I have less back pain.”

The doctors say there might be a correlation between bréast pain and developing bréast cancer, although they didn’t connect brás and cancer directly.

200 Nigerian Girls Trafficked To Russia For Prostitution Every Month

No fewer than 200 Nigerian girls are trafficked every month to Russia for prostitution, the nation’s ambassador to that country, Amb. Asam Asam has said.

Asam, who spoke against the backdrop of consular challenges faced by the embassy, disclosed this in an interview in Berlin.

Investigations reveal that the crime had decline in Western Europe following strict laws on illegal migration, and joint efforts by Nigeria and the governments of those countries to curb the menace.

However, attention has shifted to Eastern Europe as the new destination for the trade.

"The major consular challenge we face in Moscow is the influx of trafficked persons from Nigeria, not less than 200 girls are trafficked every month, and we have so many of them exposed to danger."

"Some are thrown out of the window and treated harshly, there must be a way of stopping these racketeering, these girls are not tourists, students or government officials yet they are given visas from the Russian embassy in Abuja."

"So far we have deported over 240 girls since 2012, you will be shocked, at the extend of resistance from the girls, we tell them Russia is not a destination for prostitutes yet they still come," Asam said.

According to him, the mission tries to curb the menace by arranging deportation exercise for those caught, but the challenges are enormous.

The envoy said such intervention would be more effective at the point of entry “the strategy is to stop them from Nigeria, and fish out those involved in the trade.

"For instance a well known Russian human trafficker who has been in the trade for about 20 years was caught in Nigeria."

"The National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons( NAPTIP) was on the verge of releasing her before I filed a protest from Moscow to the Comptroller General of Immigration," Asama stressed.

He said even the parents of those trafficked encourage their children," I spoke to the mother of one of the girls and she said her daughter should remain in Moscow and try to survive the ordeal, this is very sad indeed coming from one’s parent."

He tasked the media on sensitising the public on the dangers of trafficking in Russia, "this East European nation has become a new destination for them, and believe me it is a very big crime here." Asam, however, said that other Nigerians who reside in that country were students, and professionals in various fields of human endeavours.

The man, now simply identified as Miss Sahhara has claimed that he was abused and jailed in Nigeria for being a transgénder.

In an article she shared yesterday to mark the Transgénder Day of Remembrance, she talked about how depressed she felt and how she even attempted suicide.

"I am standing in front of the mirror looking at my reflection. Tears of joy trickle down my rouged cheek before going on stage.

I am in tears because I just can’t believe how realistic my dreams have become. I am a woman! Living my life freely. Accepted and respected for my achievements as a model and a performer.

My fellow transgéndered sisters and brothers paved this way for me. They fought for acceptance, understanding and respect. Some died while fighting for what they believed in and others fell before their time due to hate, rejection and society’s unfairness. Every single story gave me strength to fight on and never to give up.

I wish I could tell the younger me who tried to commit suicide twice that life gets better and dreams come true.

I did not imagine life could be this amazing many years ago after being released from a horrid Nigerian prison for being different. Then all I could think was I could die in this prison and no one will know or care.

Being imprisoned felt justifiable, considering I was being punished for being ‘gay’ – something they assumed due to my feminine features and mannerisms.

I wasn’t gay, I am a woman born differently due to natural defects. What I felt did not match my outward appearance, Being assigned male at birth doesn’t make me a man or a woman, nobody was born a man or a women, you develop into your preferred gender as you grow up. For me that gender was female. I was born male but my brain, gestures, features and carriage functioned as female.

Growing up and not knowing what was happening to my body made me confused and lost. I couldn’t discuss it with my family because my femininity was frowned on due to religion and I could not talk to my friends because they would not understand what I was going through. I found solace in music and dreams.

I dreamt of being free to be myself, free of insults, free of judgment and free from harassment.

That freedom came when I moved to the United Kingdom, finding girls like me gave me hope of not being alone in my journey of self-discovery.

I found out what I went through growing up in Nigeria was quite common with transgéndered people. Having freedom, acceptance and knowledge are the key most important elements to a successful transition.

Knowing I am not alone in my struggles helped me to reevaluate my views on life and how I should go about my transition wisely. I researched my transition and reconciled the conflicting emotions involved in the process of accepting myself as the woman I am.

It is a lonely world during transition, as your body changes so do your emotions, which leads the mind into the darkest path in life. If the chemicals are not professionally controlled, you can feel suicidal due to rejection from loved ones and society.

In life perfection doesn’t existent, but for me having the freedom to be my true self feels almost perfect. As a black transgéndered woman I am faced with many daily challenges such as transphobia, a complicated love life, poor career prospects and racism. But when I remember my life history, these challenges become water under the bridge.

That is why I will always remember those who built this foundation for freedom and knowledge. Also those who never got the chance to enjoy the acceptance we have achieved so far.

Transgénder Day of Remembrance today (20 November) is particularly import to me because I have lost close friends to suicide and have seen many more wishing to commit suicide as a final fix to their gender dilemma and rejection by society.

The media is silent on the subject of transphobia and the effects it has on young transgéndered people of today, because they don’t see transgéndered people as ‘normal’ members of our community.

Remembering my fallen friends helps me to keep their memories alive. It also encourages me to carry on the fight to be respected, understood and accepted for whom I am.

I dream of a world where we are given some sort of understanding and tolerance to live peacefully as able, intelligent fellow human beings who make positive contributions to society.

Transgéndered people are human too. We are your brothers, your sisters, your children, your friends and your lovers. Stop the hate! "

Obasanjo warns Jonathan: Be Careful with Those G7 Governors

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has warned President Goodluck Jonathan to be careful with the kind of actions he takes against the G-7 governors who are threatening to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next few weeks.
A top source, who is also a member of the PDP BoT, disclosed that the G7 governors can make Jonathan and his camp lose the next presidential election if they are not respected and accommodated . He said:
“Baba (Obasanjo) has spoken with President Goodluck Jonathan about the issues raised by those PDP governors. He advised him against being unnecessarily harsh on them. He reminded the president of the danger in sending seven governors away, with 2015 elections just around the corner."
The governors are Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sokoto), and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).
The governors want Alhaji BamangaTukur removed as the national chairman, even as they demand internal democracy and lifting of the suspension on Governor Amaechi, among other conditions. Although they have had a dialogue with Jonathan, peace remains elusive in the party.
Only recently, five of the G7 governors were in Abeokuta to meet with Obasanjo to inform him of their plan to leave the PDP for Jonathan and work with the APC to defeat him in 2015. But Obasanjo pleaded with them not to do so, at least for now. He promised them he would caution Jonathan.
But appears Jonathan is not ready to listen to everything Obasanjo told him as he still goes after the governors in the G7 with every power at his disposal. Hence, the governors are ready to join the APC.

There was drama at Palmgrove Bus Stop in Lagos State, on Monday when a commercial bus driver stripped to avoid being arrested by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. The
LASTMA officials had blocked five different commercial buses for indiscriminately taking passengers by the side of the road.
Passengers in the four vehicles were asked to alight, as officials of the traffic agency took over the wheels of the impounded vehicles. But something
happened when the driver, an elderly man, who drove the fifth bus suddenly went inside his bus and brought out a bowl.
According to Punch, a fetid odour emanating from the bowl polluted the morning air. The LASTMA officers, policemen and commuters ran for cover. But one of the officials came back and stood his ground, wielding a baton and insisting that the man must follow them.
When it became obvious that the odour strategy failed, the driver began pulling off his clothes, prostrating by the front tyres of the vehicle and rolling on the floor.
A crowd formed around the area, with some of the bystanders capturing the scene with their camera phones. One of the officials was heard telling his colleagues to “ leave him alone and let him go.” However, they took close shots of the vehicle number plate, and the driver, before taking other seized vehicles away.
Our correspondent spoke with a resident who said he knew the old man well. He said, “That is how the man usually does. His bus plies Lagos Island everyday and
he picks his passengers from that spot.”
The source said the bus was owned by a military officer.
When Punch correspondent approached the old man for comment, he refused to talk. When confronted with the allegation of being a serial offender, he said, “Look, whoever wants to talk should talk. Everybody has his problems and I have mine.”

Sales girl, 20 year-old brutally r*ped by employer

A trader, Kingsley Ikechukwu, 30, on Monday appeared before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged rape of his employee.
Mr. Ikechukwu, who resides at No 1, Ilufunmi St., Ejigbo, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The prosecutor, Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 4 at his residence. He said the accused unlawfully and forcefully had s*xual intercourse with his 20-year-old sales girl. “The accused asked the complainant to bring something for him at home, when she got there, the accused locked his door and dragged her into his room.

The complainant was shouting for help but no one heard her voice because it was raining heavily,” he said.Mr. Olatunde, a police corporal, said that the accused forcefully penetrated the private part of the complainant and had canal knowledge of her.
“As a result of the rape, the complainant started bleeding from her private part and the accused gave her some rags to clean the blood but the blood did not stop.While the accused was still looking for more rags to clean the blood, the complainant unlocked the door and ran out for help,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the accused ran away from his house and could not be found again.He said that when the police visited Ikechukwu’s house, rags soaked with blood were seen.
Mr. Olatunde said that the offence contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011. Section 258 stipulates life imprisonment for rapists.The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Akeem Fashola, adjourned the case to December 3 for mention.The accused was granted bail after pleading not guilty to the charge.

A man, who apparently has no job to enable him feed himself, has been sentenced to spend one year in prison after he was found guilty of stealing from the Mountain of Fire and Miracles church.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Simon Ibrahim told the court that the convict was a habitual offender and had stolen from the same church in 2012. Sergeant
Ibrahim said:

36yrs old Ademola Ayeni was sentenced on Monday after he was convicted on charges of theft for making away with the offerings of the church members.

He had been previously convicted of the same offence after he stole from the same church last year.

Magistrate Khadijat Mustapha convicted Ayeni for the offence without an option of fine, saying the sentence is meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sergeat Simon Ibrahim, told the court that (Pastor) Ojo Oyeyemi of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, Utako, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on November 15.

Ibrahim said the convict criminally trespassed into the church just after they had concluded church service and stole an offering bag containing N50,800.

He also stole two cheques worth N150,000 and N50,000.

Nigeria Ready To Sell Refineries

Africa’s largest oil producer, Nigeria plans to begin privatizing its four state-owned oil refineries before the end of the first quarter, Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke said.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV Africa in London, Alison-Madueke said, “We would like to see major infrastructural entities such as refineries moving out of government hands into the private sector. Government does not want to be in the business of running major infrastructure entities and we haven’t done a very good job at it over all these years.”

A presidential audit of the facilities last year recommended their sale due to inadequate government funding and “sub-optimal performance.” The refineries, which have a combined 445,000 barrel-a-day capacity, should be privatized within 18 months, according to the report submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan in November 2012. Nigeria, a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, produced 1.99 million barrels a day of crude in October, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

While Nigeria is also Africa’s top crude exporter and the most populous with more than 160 million people, it relies on fuel imports to meet more than 70 percent of its needs. Its state-owned plants operate at a fraction of their capacity because of poor maintenance and aging equipment. Nigeria also exchanges 60,000 barrels a day of crude for products with Trafigura Beheer BV and a similar amount with Societe Ivoirienne de Raffinage’s refinery in Ivory Coast, according to Nigeria National Petroleum Corp.

“We are right now undergoing a major turnaround maintenance program” of the refineries, Alison-Madueke said.

Improvements to the two-unit 210,000 barrel-a-day Port Harcourt refinery, the country’s biggest, will be completed by the end of the year, to be followed by enhancements at the Warri and Kaduna sites in 2014, according to the NNPC. Warri has a daily processing capacity of 125,000 and Kaduna 110,000 barrels.

Towards the end of former President Obasanjo’s administration in 2007, the refineries were sold to companies owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, but the sale was reversed by the President Musa Yar’Adua government that took over from Obasanjo. [Vanguard]

A 22-year-old software engineer has been arrested for having a séxual relationship with his colleague under the pretext that he would marry her.
Police revealed that the Indian man, Kshitiz Garg, who was arrested on Sunday, works with a leading software company in Sector 58.
A senior police officer said:

"The victim in her complaint alleged that Garg promised to marry her, but later refused. The accused was allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage."

Liberia burns $4 million worth of marijuana smuggled in through Presidential convoy

Liberia’s Drug Enforcement Agency destroyed nearly 300 kilograms of marijuana Friday evening in a suburb of the country’s capital, Monrovia.
Part of a new nationwide crackdown on drug traffickers, officials say the drugs were smuggled into the West African country from neighboring Sierra Leone by a member of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s motorcade staff.
The presidential aide, Perry Dolo, used an official vehicle to transport the marijuana. He and at least three other men with whom he was traveling were arrested shortly after crossing the border.

Liberia’s Information Minister, Lewis Brown, said the burning was to show that there will be no tolerance for drug-related crimes.
“You can be in the center of a convoy, but if you break the law, there will be no hiding place for you,” he said. “That convoy will not hide you. We will arrest you, we will properly investigate you, and, as has been done, we will prosecute you in keeping with our laws. This crackdown will continue. It’s a nationwide crackdown.”
Liberia has a long history of drug problems. While it is illegal to grow, buy or sell marijuana in Liberia, penalties for drug offenders are minimal and have rarely been enforced.
Farmers throughout the country continue to produce and distribute marijuana, and the smuggling of drugs from Sierra Leone remains a problem.
Nick More, a 35-year-old resident of Monrovia’s West Point community, said he applauds the government for this latest crackdown on drug traffickers, but that more needs to be done.
“You cannot say you want to fight drugs war when farmers in Liberia are planting, are growing marijuana,” he said. “So I think what the government should be thinking of doing now is to move on those that are planting marijuana in our country. If the government does that, I think they will be moving in the right direction.”
The government has not said what they will do about the marijuana farming inside Liberia.

Governors Shower Cash On Muslim Converts In Abuja

Abuja - Yesterday, Sokoto state Governor Aliyu Wamakko, together with his Bauchi state counterpart Alhaji Isa Yuguda each distributed N5million to Igbo natives who converted to Islam. Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha and former Governor of Abia state Orji Uzor Kalu gave N2 million and N1million respectively to the converts.

The event took place in Abuja's National Mosque.

The converts, young men beteween 25 and 35 years, described Islam as a "truthful, peaceful and charitable faith."

The new Muslim converts are 17 Igbos, one Yoruba, and a Northern Hausa Christian: Chief Suleiman Nwachukwu, Ibrahim Uchenna Ukah, Muhammad Sani Stanley Uziogwe, Bello Kelvin Nmadu, Habibullah Kosoro Ofolete, Jamilu Osita Agocha, Haruna Chichebem Nwabirika, Abdulazeez Paschal Iroegbulam, Suleiman Ifeanyi Uzoma, Adam Nduka Nweko, Dawuda Nnaemeka Uzoma, Aliyu Prince Onyekwume and Musa (Anayo) Adugbaa, all of Imo state. Others are Abdulmalik Bongo Edet (Cross River), Hassan Babalola Shegun (Ondo), Nasir Peter Ndubisi (Anambra) and Bashir Prince Dulla (Akwa Ibom).

"I was attracted to Islam because of the truth it resonated in me, and I saw the charity of the faith which all its adherents find peace and solace in," said Ibrahim Ukah, formerly Uchenna Ukah, a younger brother of a fellow convert, Tobechi Ukah, now Abdullahi Ukah.

According to report, Mikel was shown a property for sale by this close friend.
