Summer Brights

Here you have it- Elle's hair without being blow dried, straightened, or anything. I used to despise my curly hair and wouldn't be seen out of the house unless I had blow dried it at least, but sometimes I embrace the curl and just let it be.

I have two words to describe this outfit: flirty and feminine. I love how bright and cheerful it looks. (So, four words, I guess.) The combination of the hot pink lips and hot pink skirt with the yellow neon details is just so summery. I think this is about as "office style" as I can get for work too. Most days chalk up to something similar to this: a pencil skirt and cute top, but I always end up wearing flats or sandals because of the high demand of being on my feet 24/7 with the kids! Not that I'm complaining :) One last thing- I think the gold detail of the belt really breaks up all the color and adds something to the outfit. I know it's a tiny, skinny belt, but look at how much it pops! I know this season it's supposed to be about the absence of color, but let's face it- I'm sort of committed to dressing colorfully, just look at the name of my blog! Hope you have a fabulous week!

This outfit is from last weekend in the desert, and let me tell you- it was super hot...I was literally melting. However, in my opinion, there isn't a better location to photograph this flowy, lacy dress. For pieces like this, it's best to go minimalist, so I chose some brown accessories, (including that awesome camera bag I scored while thrifting) and a brown belt with my sparkly Target sandals. I have been wearing these strappy sandals almost every day- they are super comfortable and an awesomely affordable version of the Dolce Vita ones I spotted at Nordstrom. I have also paired this dress with a chambray shirt before and used the belt to add a little more shape to the outfit, but the heat does not lend itself to wearing more than one layer!

I really love this outfit…for two reasons. The first is the clean and simple white dress. There's nothing better than white! Also, the necklace (obvi) because when I saw it I knew that this "Color Mix" Statement Necklace had to be THE Living in Color necklace - it's the epitome of LIC. Let's be honest, here! I also envision this dress with a denim vest and top knot, so I'll probably be styling it that way next! I wore this to a local blogger conference that I attended last week. Let's talk about summer and layers. The two don't necessarily go together in my book. Now, I adore a clean, crisp chambray shirt with a sweater and some cute shorts- but sometimes you just have to wear a simple polka dot denim dress and call it a day! I paired it with my signature cognac brown accessories, and my favorite fedora (see how I styled it last year here.) I love how casual this is for the weekend, but I did wear this exact same dress to work last week and paired it with a white blazer and some tan wedges. It felt like a completely different outfit! Oh, hello, Friday! It's been such a long week, but here is a fun, trendy outfit to brighten up your weekend! A few interesting points: this is a men's shirt. I specifically wanted it to be baggy and loose to have a very relaxed look. Let me tell ya, it looks amazing with boyfriend jeans and a cross-body coach (in cognac brown of course) but I wanted to make this shirt work with a more girly outfit. This is why I chose the brightest most feminine color and cut of skirt, then added a giant bow for emphasis. Of course, I just had to pair it with some bow toed heels to top it off.

The trick to getting a feminine waistline in a baggy shirt like this is adding the skinny belt- it offers some more shape to an otherwise very masculine top. To be honest, though, I wanted to be different at Lucky FABB especially. I feel like there are bloggers who play it safe because there are so many other bloggers that will be in the same space, but I really wanted to showcase my style and taste rather than throw on a dress and call it a day. Up next is a recap of Lucky FABB day 2, and that will wrap up the FABB series... until next year!

Lucky FABB Series: Day 1 Recap

I already shared with you ladies that I was given the wonderful opportunity to attend Lucky FABB (Fashion and Beauty Blogger) Conference this year in Los Angeles. The event took place at the gorgeous Beverly Hills Hotel, and I have to say, the whole thing was so completely inspiring. It was a two day event, and to be honest, my favorite part was the breakout sessions from day 2- there was so much helpful information to be learned! (I'll share everything about day 2 later this week!) Here is a recap of Day one.

We started the day off with a delicious breakfast, and I met up with some of my favorite blogging ladies. After making our way into the conference room, we had a warm welcome from Brandon Holley, the editor in chief of Lucky, then Kelly Osbourne of Fashion Police graced us with her presence for a few minutes. Something memorable that she said when referring to top trends lately was, "I'm ready for a summer of men's suits." I couldn't agree more!

There were four panel discussions on Day 1: "Your, Voice Louder" was the first, with inspiring creative minds such as Hillary Kerr, and Eva Chen. It was meant to help each and every blogger get tips on how to find their niche in the internet world. My personal favorite was "The Business of Blogging" with the knowledgable and gracious Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere. This panel covered everything from banner ads, sponsored posts, campaigns, and affiliate links. A key takeaway from this panel for me was this:

-How to be successful as a blogger-

1. Find your vision

2. Stay authentic

3. Be passionate

Day one of Lucky FABB ended with a conversation with Drew Barrymore. At first I was very curious as to why she was a speaker at the conference, but when I learned that she's releasing a cosmetic line called Flower Beauty, everything made sense again! Drew is so amazingly humble and down-to-earth in person. While I didn't have the opportunity to meet her face-to-face, I just felt that she can be anyone's best friend, instantly. Something memorable that she said during her interview when referring to her current career choices was, "Women can't have it all… happiness is a choice." I definitely agree, and she knows what she's talking about as a recent mom and aspiring entrepreneur. Women wear many hats! :)

Lastly, Betsey Johnson made an appearance, and while her pieces are quite eclectic and quirky, I've never been a huge fan. Nonetheless, Betsey seemed very sweet, and eclectic herself, and I love seeing how a designer or artist's personality directly affects their works of art! I could definitely tell she is authentic and true to herself!

One of the highlights of the conference for me was being able to hang out with my amazing blogger friends (now named Blogsquad) whom I adore dearly. I met each one before the conference, but I was able to introduce Dani, and Emily to my dear friend Brittany. We became super close, and have been "chat room" texting, as I call it, super frequently ever since about anything and everything! I am so unbelievably thankful for blogging and all of the opportunities it holds, but especially for the priceless friendships that I've gained from being a blogger!

Lastly, the fact that I was able to meet and chat with THE Beth Jones of B. Jones Style was such an honor! She's so sweet in person, just as I imagined, and looked absolutely fabulous in her distressed denim dress!

I know this post is a little more lengthy than usual, but I really wanted you, as my reader, to feel like you were right there with me at Lucky FABB! It was an absolute blast. I would be lying if I said I didn't put a lot of thought into this outfit for Day 1 of Lucky FABB (Lucky Magazine's Fashion and Beauty Blogger Conference), but it's so true. I knew I wanted to be bright, colorful, and springy! Mint and floral was my absolute first choice, and this gorgeous BBDakota dress was an absolute steal! It's very affordable, and I love the detail on the hem and its' flowy chiffon material. I would definitely recommend it for a summer wedding or any sort of party! It's got dainty, little spaghetti straps, you just can't see them in this post!

I've also been wearing the LOFT necklace I bought a few weeks ago with EVERYTHING! It's lightweight, and neutral, but makes a subtle statement with almost every outfit I've paired it with. Lastly, I'd like to address my never-ending love affair with the classic legacy Coach cross body bag. I've only purchased vintage cognac brown ones up until this point, but I decided that I needed a gorgeous Spring color to tote around my keys, wallet, and lip color. The Penny bag in mint is not only a gorgeous color, but it also matches my blogger business cards ;) (a total plus!)

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Lucky FABB. I had an absolute blast meeting lots of bloggers, and hanging out with some gorgeous girls I already know. I was also able to hear very inspirational speakers and presenters and the ins and outs of blogging! I cannot wait to share! I'll be posting my first Lucky FABB post later this week! Anyway, how bright and fun is this dress?! What you can't see is the gorgeous sweetheart neckline, but I have a feeling I'll be wearing it many more times this Spring and Summer. The dress is actually custom made for me courtesy of eShakti.com, a retro inspired clothing website! I just had to enter my measurements, and a week later, I had a darling dress that fit like a glove. There were so many pieces that I wanted to get, but a lot of them were already sold out. However, I saw the floral print on a bright backdrop, and knew I had to have this one. The A-line waist and light cotton fabric are my favorite part of the dress, I think!

These Maddens have been through a couple of fall/winter seasons with me, and they're still going strong! To be honest, I feel like there still might be this "black and brown= no no" stigma, but you guys know how I feel about those classic fashion "no-no's"… So, black and cognac it is! A gorgeous combo, I might add. However, it may just have looked a tad better in the daylight without my giant shadow behind me. Ha, well, you can't have it all! Hope you're having an amazing week! Five Things

I was tagged last week by the lovely Andrea for my five things post. Typically, I'm not very good at things like this. I end up sounding very depressing, or not being able to talk about myself so I talk about other people's lives. But I tried my hardest to be honest and upbeat. Let me know what you think!

1. I've had every color of hair imaginable. The spectrum includes red, jet black, every shade of brown, bleach blonde, and everything in between!

2. I'm the oldest of seven children. This being the case, I shared a room with siblings until I was fourteen. One of my sisters and I were closeted Star Wars fans. When we were 6 and 7 all the little girls our age were playing with Polly Pockets and Barbies (which we did too, on occasion.) But C and I loved to reenact Star Wars films with our super cool action figures. I had 4 different princess Leia's (for the costume changes of course) 3 Han Solo's, and 2 different Luke Skywalkers, along with the rest of the cast. Did I mention our awesome Millennium Falcons, yeah, we both had one… major nerds.

3. As much as I don't like to, I have to keep a lot of my life very private here on the blog. I've got some close relatives who unfortunately chose to make some very poor choices in life. Their idea of apologizing is finding my blog and filling my email inbox with all kinds of crazy junk mail. Sadly, the damage that's been done is unforgivable. But, readers, please just understand that it's not that I'm too reserved or afraid to tell you about my life, I just have to watch out for myself. :)

4. I worked three jobs in high school to survive. I consider myself a pretty determined, motivated person, and I'm definitely one of those "glass half full" types of people. You can't live your life focusing on the things that are difficult. It will affect your whole attitude and outlook.

5. Now, I am the most anti-camping, girly-girl I know, but I secretly want to go live in a hut in Africa and teach little children how to read and write there. Even though I'd be living a typical third-world country life and miss out on all of the luxurious things that I've been privileged enough to experience, I would be so fulfilled knowing that I could help others.

We took these pictures last week right before our movie date… in the rain. If you know me in real life, you know that I DESPISE the rain. It's because my hair is naturally curly, and when I straighten those curls the rain does not agree with my decision to make my hair straight. I'm sure that's why I look a bit disgruntled, and the pictures are dark and gray, but hey- it's a blog, and I can style an outfit, but I can't change the weather. So here are my rainy, grey day pictures in my warm and fuzzy leopard coat. (P.S. I really want to wear this coat with boyfriend jeans and a white or black top and strappy heels... I would actually prefer to style it that way versus a dress. Weird? I think not.)

Happy Valentine's Eve! I'm posting this video/outfit post because this is the ideal thing I'd wear on a Valentine's day date! Now, don't get me wrong, I love the traditional pink and red outfits- but to be honest, there are times where I don't want to be gimmicky, and I'd rather go for a bit of class! In my opinion, the subtle pop of pink of holiday-ish enough for me! There's lots of gems sprinkled within this outfit. The first being this sequin shirt. I love how I can layer it, wear it on it's own. Dress it up with a skirt, or dress it down with dark denim! The second gem is this gorgeous skirt. I wore it last week with a denim shirt and loved how flowy and fun the outfit was… but it's so versatile that I can also feature it as a statement in this romantic outfit! I've got a serious obsessions with striped shirts, so when I spotted this gem with SEQUINS at Loft, I couldn't resist. Now, we all have our "go to" weekend outfit that is literally the first thing we turn to when we're not sure what to wear… this is mine. I love stripes and khaki. (Hence this post.) I also adore some nice, comfy skinnies for the weekend, with comfy sandals and always a pop of color (Hence this post!) To top off my "go to" outfit, I always add one of my favorite vintage Coach bags- I'm a classic Coach fiend! (Hence this post, and this post, and this post.) I picked this top up a few weeks ago at Forever 21, and I've literally been living in it! It's so comfortable, and I love that it is so shiny dresses up an otherwise pretty drab outfit. In the warmer months, I'll probably pair it with a cute skirt or comfy shorts but this particular day was wayyyy too cold for my liking (note that I don't have a jacket on, because in all reality it wasn't that cold- I'm just a huge baby.) I guess I couldn't live on the East Coast. I would freeze. Also, can we talk about these sunglasses? I've been on the serious hunt for Ray Ban Wayfarer's but I'm one of those girls who refuses to wear the regular wayfarer. They are just too small on my face, so I searched and searched until I found the oversized ones. What are your favorite sunglasses right now? I absolutely adore the color combinations in this outfit. It's one of those that I paired together on a whim, but it turned out being gorgeous! I'm not sure why I never thought to pair olive with plum, but for some reason it never dawned on me how gorgeous they are together. I'd been hunting for the perfect olive colored parka to wear for the colder months, and this one is just amazing, and you can't beat the price! Lastly, I'd like to mention that even though this top appears like it's lacy, it's actually super soft and comfortable. I love how it takes the typical t-shirt and pants look up a notch with the gorgeous lace-like pattern, and the fun flare at the bottom. My peplum obsession is still going strong! As I write this post, I'm wishing I could be back on the pier with the wind in my hair. This outfit is the perfect example of a transition to winter. The long sleeve top, boots, and vest kept me warm for a gorgeous walk on the pier, but the textured skirt is still flirty and feminine. I loved these photos because the outfit is really accented by the gorgeous ocean in the background. Here's to the week before Christmas!

I absolutely adore the color of this sweater I bought last year from LOFT, but for some reason I have a hard time pairing it with outfits. When I decided to try it with this brown faux leather skirt, it was love at first sight! For some reason the colors work really well together. I paired it with my bunched faux pearls from J.Crew Factory for a more dainty look. Don't you just love those outfits that you try on a whim, then they're perfect?! Happy 12.12.12. :)

Fashion Flashback

It's officially been a year since I've started blogging. It's been both an adventure and the most enjoyable endeavor I've decided to embark on. I have met so many sweet ladies through the blogging community, and I've learned so much about my personal style. I like that my style is still very similar and rings true to what it's always been, but I've learned to take risks and throw certain "fashion rules" to the wayside. I look forward to many more years of blogging. Anyways, with that I wanted to share a few of my favorite outfits from the past 12 months!

Okay, so it's no secret that I'm obsessed with hues of plum, wine, and berry this season. I can't help but buy all things burgundy! However this purchase was definitely a score from the BR outlet. I paired it with boots for a nice day look, but would definitely dress it up for the evening with some loose curls and strappy heels!
