This might give you the impression that parents aren’t paying attention but there’s another problem they’re up against – and resolving it might well keep some kids out of serious trouble. What is that problem? Terminology.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you hear your teenage or young-adult son or daughter talking to a friend on the phone, or in person, you would be alarmed if you heard ‘methamphetamine,’ ‘heroin,’ or ‘cocaine.’&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But would your reaction be the same if they were discussing ‘Christmas tree,’ ‘cinnamon,’ ‘Cristina,’ or ‘lemon drop’? Not likely. Those words fit into normal conversations. You hear them frequently. Maybe Christmas tree wouldn’t make sense mid August but even then it wouldn’t send you into a panic. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What do those words mean in drug parlance? They are just a few of the 135 (or so) street names for methamphetamine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For heroin, the street names number about 400. Words you might overhear in conversations about heroin could include ‘balloon,’ ‘Bart Simpson,’ ‘Big Harry,’ “bulldog,’ and ‘channel swimmer.’ What would you think if you heard someone described as a channel swimmer? Would you think they inject heroin?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No. You’d think they were a great swimmer, someone you’d probably like your son or daughter to hang out with. Could they really be any safer than when they’re hanging out with such an obviously accomplished athlete?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When someone’s discussing cocaine, you might hear ‘Angie,’ ‘Batman,’ ‘Bernie,’ ‘Blizzard’ or ‘aspirin.’ If you heard ‘Blizzard’ you’d probably think the kids were meeting up at the Dairy Queen for their famous Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Blizzard dessert. ‘Aspirin’ is likely to make you ask your kid if they have a headache.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cocaine, by the way, has almost as many street names as heroin – about 370.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some of the names are for methamphetamine, heroin or cocaine alone; others represent combinations of those drugs with others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Do you have to memorize 900 words or so (and that’s just for those three drugs)? Well, it wouldn’t be the worst thing you could do. When it comes to kids and drugs, better safe than sorry. If you’re interested, you can find comprehensive lists on the Whitehouse Drug Policy (that’s .gov) site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you want to understand anything, or anyone, you have to understand the terminology being used or the language they’re speaking. The more you apply that principal, the more you’ll understand your kids’ lives. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long.  This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What about Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig Dieting Plans?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers (and Jenny Craig) usually involve slower dieting progress over a longer period of time, since such programs generally promise only 2-3 pounds of weight loss per week.  Also, programs such as Jenny Craig usually involve buying special meals and/or dietary supplements during the initial phases of the program. People suffering from this sleep related eating disorder have experiences of recurrent eating episodes while asleep, without being aware that they are actually doing it. It is considered in medical term as a parasomnia. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;People suffering from this disorder are not conscious during such episodes. The food consumed during the disorder periods are most likely to be high-fat, high-sugar food that people usually avoid when they’re awake. This eating disorder might happen most of the time that it would show significant gain in your weight.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Midnight binges and nocturnal sleep related eating disorder all are variations of this syndrome. Many obese night eaters reported that they believed their tendency to snack at night preceded their weight gain. People with this disorder typically wake up between one and four times each night and snack on about 300 calories worth of food. They are sleep deprived as a result, or feel frustrated that they can’t control their cravings. They are typically conscious of their eating habits. In contrast, people with other types of night eating problem will snack while sleep walking and are often unaware of their behavior. Approximately 1.5% of the population has night eating syndrome but the condition has been found in up to 15% of the people who are obese. In non-obese night eaters this syndrome leads to weight gain and obesity after a while.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Americans have this bad habit of midnight binges. They get up all of a sudden in the night from their sleep, venture straight into the kitchen, open the fridge and start eating whatever is there in it – bread, cakes, fruits, cold drinks, soda, chicken, turkey, chips. Being 42 yrs old should not have been this way and I don't think that it was the way our creator thought it should be but, for the last 15 yrs of my life I have allowed my health to go down hill and now I am paying the price.&lt;br /&gt;  I was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease about two yrs ago after suffering with low back pain for the last 5 yrs.  After many different types of meds and physical therapy I have started to find some ways to deal with the constant pain though it is still there every minute of every day.  This will be something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life.  Last month I was diagnosed with diabetes and was put on some pills that I have to take twice daily now so another bad mark on my health.  I was also told that I have high cholesterol.  So for the last month I have been trying to change a lot of the things I do to myself and try to get back into some sort of good health by first changing my diet.  I now watch what I eat in terms of sugar intake and fat intake and calorie intake.  At first I was like this can't be happening to me but once I figured out that it was and that it was up to me to make the changes I have been able to implement them into my everyday routine. I've also heard that next to the common cold, missing work from low back pain is the biggest reason. With these two major known facts, I then wondered why getting the correct treatment for low back pain is so difficult.&lt;br&gt;After being diagnosed with a herniated disc and bone disc degenerative disease, I was immediately scheduled to see a surgeon. The surgeon suggested I have back surgery. To make a long story short, after a lot of prayer, a lot of thought, and after talking to many people who already have had surgery with my same diagnosis, I chose against surgery.&lt;br&gt;After deciding against surgery, I found I was immediately cast in a different light, by my doctor, and the medical community in general. I found my pain was then not taken seriously. I felt disbelieved about how much I hurt. I actually felt like a drug addict when asking for something for the pain. It appeared my physician felt back surgery was the end all cure all to my back &amp; leg pain.&lt;br&gt;To the contrary studies have shown, back surgery may actually cause more pain, complications, and even damage that requires more follow up surgery. Knowing physicians and surgeons are already aware of this, it really makes you wonder why they would put you at such risk.
