My Gadget Privacy Statement

What follows is the Privacy Statement for all My Gadget websites (a.k.a. blogs) including all the websites run under the My Gadget domain.

Email Addresses

You may choose to add your email address to our contact list via the forms on our websites. We agree that we will never share you email with any third party and that we will remove your email at your request. We don’t currently send advertising via email, but in the future our email may contain advertisements and we may send dedicated email messages from our advertisers without revealing your email addresses to them. Florida has announced that it is filing a civil lawsuit against two spammers - and Microsoft is helping out since the messages went through Microsoft services.
This is another case of spammers being chased because they were scammers. The spam was just how they drew people in, but the truly illegal things were what they did in the business (essentially lie to get people in, and then steal their money and disappear).
What I don't get, which is perhaps due to me being too stupid (so please fill me in if you know) - how did they collect the money? I don't know if you have ever started an online company, but it is incredibly hard these days to collect money online - even if you are totally legit. PayPal is one way, but they would never allow this sort of thing - they are always freezing accounts for anything remotely suspicious. And true credit card processing outlets like World Pay wouldn't get near such a thing.
So how were they collecting the money in order to execute their scams? Direct wire transfers?

Microsoft has tapped IronPort Systems to provide anti-spam protections for its MSN and Hotmail e-mail services, the companies announced Wednesday.
IronPort will provide Microsoft with its "bonded sender" e-mail certification program, which aims to create a list of certified senders of bulk e-mail, the San Bruno, Calif., company said. Microsoft has been testing the IronPort program for the past five months, according to IronPort.

To qualify for the so-called "white list," senders of bulk e-mail pay a financial bond, agree to a set of best practices for sending commercial e-mail and are monitored by TRUSTe, a nonprofit organization that monitors complaints against bulk e-mailers, IronPort said.

Should senders violate any of these best practices, debts are taken against the bonds, which are calculated based on the monthly volume of mail sent, the company said.
Since February, Microsoft has been spearheading its Coordinated Spam Reduction Initiative (CSRI), an anti-spam movement that seeks to thwart spam on a number of fronts, including the authentication of e-mail senders. As part of that effort, Microsoft also published its Caller ID for E-mail specification, aimed at stopping the spoofing of e-mail addresses.
Caller ID specification works by having companies register the IP addresses of their outgoing e-mail servers in a DNS record for their domain. IronPort's bonded system also works in a similar fashion.
Along with its white list service, IronPort provides a "blacklist" service, Spamcop, that identifies IP addresses for third parties to block.

The best-performing technology by a large margin is made by challenge-response vendors like Sendio and SpamArrest, which challenge the identity of first-time senders, the report states.

Rather than rate each vendor individually, Brockmann's survey divided technologies into eight categories. The firm surveyed 520 people working in IT, sales, marketing, finance, human resources and administration, or C-level executives.
