Announcing The Chat Room

This week I've been working on an IRC chat room, link is at the top of the blog. The chat room has a bot called "[Derf|Bot]" The bot is powered by Mirc through scripts found around the internet. These are the commands that the bot responds to(so far):

!rules tells you the rules
!fish tells you fish are tasty
!slang WORD gives you the definition of your chosen WORD.
!time ZIPCODE tells you the time for the given zip code.

To use the chat without going through this blog, download a irc client and use these details:

Server: irc.techtoknow.net
port: 6667
channel: #derfman24

Here are some chat clients I recommend:

X-chat 2 if you're on Windows(I use this)
mIRC if you're on Windows(This runs the bot)
Xchat if you're using Unix or Linux
kvIRC if you're on Linux or Unix
X-chat Aqua if you're using a Mac
Colloquy if you're using a Mac

I rather like X-chat for it's ease of use. There is a commercial X-chat for Windows, but X-chat 2 is the same thing pretty much. There are X-chat builds for every platform. So if your platform isn't listed, just look around the internet. Also, most Linux distros have IRC clients packaged with them, so check before you download.

Note: I have never used Linux or Mac for IRC, so those recommendations come from multiple places. I plan to test IRC on Linux and Mac as soon as I get my Hackintosh machine running, I still need a wireless card that has open source drivers.
