Beer nr4 : Duvel

The next beer i am going to talk about is Duvel. Duvel is a 8,5% strong golden pale ale brewed in Belgium. Moortgat brewery was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat, who was descended from a family of brewers that lived in Steenhuffel, Belgium. In the 1950s, the third generation of Moortgats took control of the brewery. In the early 1970s, when the company was struggling financially, Moortgat bottled and distributed the Danish beer, Tuborg. The two companies ended this arrangement in the early 1980s, but it did save the brewery who, by then, had managed to also set up massive distribution channels for their flagship beer, Duvel. In June 1999, Duvel Moortgat NV went public on Euronext Brussels. Duvel Moortgat was an original investor in the Brewery Ommegang craft brewery founded in Cooperstown, NY, in the late 1990s. More recently, the Belgian company took over complete control of the brewery and founded a stateside sales organization Duvel USA to handle both Ommegang and Duvel Moortgat brands and others (including Rodenbach). In September 2006 Duvel Moortgat bought fellow Belgian brewery Brasserie d'Achouffe.

To commemorate the end of World War I, the Moortgats named their main beer Victory Ale. But during the 1920s, an avid drinker described the beer as "nen echten duvel" (a real devil in Brabantian Dutch) - perhaps in reference to its formidable alcohol content and the name of the beer was changed to Duvel. It has become the brewery's flagship beer. Considered by many the definitive version of the Belgian Strong Golden Ale style, Duvel is brewed with Pilsner malt and white sugar, and hopped with Saaz hops and Styrian Goldings, the yeast still stems from the original culture of Scottish yeast bought by Albert Moortgat during a business tour of the U.K. just after World War I.

My opinion: This is one of my favourite beers. It's strong and slightly bitter but it taste very well! :) Duvel is drunk by all ages but not by alot of teenagers.

No Win No Fee Lawyers For You And Me!

The following true story should make you think, the purpose of which, is to educate the audience, hoping that someone will use this to guide someone in need of it.

The subject is “no win no fee” and I know it’s hard to believe, but there’s a 40% possibility that you will be in the instance of needing to use it, or miss out on it! For years many people must have heard it through their television set but due to the repetitiveness of the word in nearly every advert regarding the word “no win no fee” I am very sure it’s lost all its meaning to the Television viewers .

The story I would like to share is of a friend of mine, who tripped at work at no fault of his own, and was suing his workplace. He had his own lawyer whom he decided to use, but to no avail as he lost the case and had to eventually pay the lawyers fee which summed up to a rough figure of €2,000. There’s no doubt that the case’s downfall was down to some bad representation along with hard luck, the lawyer must have had an off day. Even though this won’t save you a penny when your bill arrives, as you get billed for the effort and not the result.

However the disaster wasn’t limited by how he lost the case, it was because he had to pay the lawyer! now you’re wondering “ excuse me, you’re supposed to pay lawyers, they don’t work for free” Well you must understand, two decades ago things were different. Governments have changed as well as the policies, however it doesn’t mean solicitors have dropped their standards and work for free, merely pointing out that due to the new legislation lawyers can work for free and make lots of money from it.

how can this be? With relative ease, they call it the “no win no fee” term, and here’s what makes it tick. There is no upfront fee or any fee what so ever taken by lawyers from the clients. This works because they solicitors bill the insurance of the company getting sued, and they charge more than enough to be happy with the overall amount they receive.

Never forget that no win no fee can one day save you lots of money and earn you lots of cash!

Beer nr3 : Belle-Vue Gueuze

The third beer i am going to talk about is Belle-Vue Gueuze. Belle-Vue Gueuze is a 5,2% type of lambic, a Belgian beer. It is made by blending young (1-year-old) and old (2- to 3-year-old) lambics into a new beer, which is then bottled for a second fermentation. Because the young lambic is not fully fermented, it contains fermentable sugars, which allow the second fermentation to occur. Lambic that undergoes a second fermentation in the presence of sour cherries before bottling results in kriek (fruitbeer) , a beer closely related to Geuze.

Since gueuze is made by blending lambics, it tastes different from traditional ale and lager style beers. Because aged hops are used to produce these lambics, the beer has little to none of the traditional hop flavor and aroma that can be found in most other styles of beer. Furthermore, the wild yeasts that are specific to lambic-style beers give gueuze a dry, cidery, musty, sour, acetic acid, lactic acid taste.

The history of the Gueuze beer goes back to medieval times, but the commercial production of gueuze commenced in the 19th century. Philemon Vanden Stock, (father of Constant Vanden Stock: former chairman of RSC Anderlecht.), started the Brewery Belle-Vue in 1913 in Brussels. Brewery Belle-Vue is owned by Anheuser-Busch Inbev.

The ingredients are malt, wheat, water, hops and yeasts, giving it a pale gold color.

My opinion: Gueuze Belle-vue is a soft, slightly bitter and slightly sour beer. This beer increases your appetite but it's also thirst-quenching. It's not a well known beer as Stella or Jupiler, but drunk by a lot of beerlovers. I love it!

Beer nr2 : Hoegaarden

My second beer i am going to talk about is Hoegaarden. Hoegaarden is a 4,9% white beer (wheat beer) brewed by Hoegaarden Brewery in Hoegaarden. Its origins date back to 1445. But because of the increasing popularity of lager beers, the last white beer brewery in Hoegaarden closed his doors in 1957. Pierre Celis, a milkman, decided some ten years later to try to revive the style. He began the new brewery in his hayloft. Celis used the traditional ingredients of water, yeast, wheat, hops, coriander and dried Curaçao orange peel known as Laraha. Hoegaarden is unfiltered and therefore cloudy in appearance. (also because of the wheat used.) Hoegaarden Brewery is owned by Anheuser-Busch Inbev.

My opnion: This is a nice beer for a hot summerday. It's fruity and very thirst-quenching. This is one of my favourites. It's drunk by many women, but not only by women. :)

Beer nr1 : Jupiler

My first beer i am going to talk about is Jupiler. Jupiler is a 5,2% pale lager brewed by Piedboeuf Brewery in Jupille-sur-Meuse (Belgium, ofcourse) since 1966. Jupiler has a slightly bitter taste. It is made from malt, maize (corn), water, hops and yeast. Piedboeuf Brewery is owned by Anheuser-Busch Inbev. Jupiler is exported to more than 80 countries around the world. Piedboeuf are the main sponsor of the Belgian Pro League, the highest Belgian football division, as well as the second highest league in the Netherlands.

My Opinion: It's a good but standard beer. Nothing special. It's often served at parties & bars here in Belgium. My son drinks this when he's playing poker here at home with some friends, but it's also drunk by older people. But I know better beers then this! I will talk about them later.

Hello to the big blogworld!
My name is Carmen and i work at one of the biggest brewers of the world, InBev. And i love it, i love my job, i love beer! (maybe a little bit strange for a woman, but i just dont like wine that much.) Three times a week i'm going to talk about a belgian beer. Between the beers i'm going to talk about recent world news, (War in Libya, Tsunami in Japan,etc.), my family, etc. Well i hope you have a nice time here!
