My dreams were smashed to smithereens yesterday when I had logged in to check my CAT 2011 result. I sat for the top notch entrance exam few months back as the first customary step to fulfill my dream of getting into the best B-school in India. Cracking CAT is the first step towards chasing your MBA dream as it paves way into one of the best management institutes of the country, the Indian Institutes of Management or IIM’s.

Around 1.85 lakh candidates took the test over a 20-day testing window across 36 cities from mid-October out of which nine were successful enough to secure 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test this year. And, here I’m licking the dust all around. I never thought of making it into this year coveted list except in my dreams where I thought God blessing me with HIS supreme powers and getting me an easy access to the IIM’s. Yet the dismal of not being selected vex me.

This post contains the autopsy report that I prepared to know about my weakest links and areas that I needed to improve if I want myself into one of those Mecca of management studies in India. After going through various CAT coaching websites after the initial CAT exam I speculated of getting something around 80-85 percentile but then destiny had some other plans for me and I hardly managed to get somewhat around 70 percentile. A 10 percentile steep fall startled me completely and compelled me to diagnose my footfalls.

The gravest mistake I happen to commit was not getting enrolled for any mock tests provided by almost every coaching institute. I had my own reservations behind that but at last it’s the end results that matters the most, where unfortunately my technique collapsed. To every CAT aspirants please before the actual test sit for some mock tests that may eventually help you in easing out the pressure and letting you know about your preparedness for the CAT. Mock tests make you learn from your mistakes and ensure that you don’t commit them in future.

Secondly, I scored badly in Data interpretation (DI) where the certainty of having more than one close answer dilapidated me completely. For solving questions on DI accurately one must fully get himself versed with all sorts of graphs, schemes, plans, etc. Nothing else other than practice can save your sinking boat . The busy schedule of engineering tolled with major project in the last semester proved a big hindrance to my path towards achieving mastery at DI. But excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure. Consistent practice increases the accuracy and speed needed to improve this section that comes through lot of practice papers.

Thirdly, the Quantitative section though junior classes based still needs a thorough understanding of mathematical formulas. Lack of practice made it harder for me to recall the important formulas when I needed them the most. Adding to the mayhem were the close options the question paper contains where judging the answer closely won’t matter until you bang on the target. I never understood how the psychometric analysis works while differentiating a closed option from the correct one. In any case it’s always better to go for the right option than for a closed one. I guess that in my case the majority answers clicked were closed but not correct.

Lastly, passion is great for cracking the CAT yet a strong dedication and commitment which comes from regular and discipline study are vital prerequisite for good score. One must study for around 2 hours a day continuously to get ones foot set before the D-day. I know it' gets really hard for working professionals to dugout time from there busy schedule but then I cannot have everything served to me directly in my mouth; even an ant works hard to get her food. You take out time, study daily, prepare well and make it to IIM’s.

I won’t get disillusioned by this year debacle of mine at CAT as they say, “Success is how high you bounce when you hit the bottom.” Will surely learn from my past mistakes and try to put afar the dark clouds looming over me.

Why always RSS?

Always I wondered why the secular sect of political parties gets tormented even by the slightest thought of RSS.

The inquisitiveness in me roused manifold when I saw a political debate over alleged RSS & Anna Hazare link in a 24*7 news channel. As propagated, it seems in general that RSS might be an orthodox right wing Hindu nationalist organization working for the welfare of only Hindus. But the facts available online give you an all together different picture. The policy of minority appeasement for the sake of individual political gains is the prime source for such a distorted image.

Why always RSS and other Hindu organizations are seen with a layer of suspicion?

Ironically, the same government that leaves no stone upturn in ridiculing the social organizations in the name of national security pleads in with the terrorist groups for an open discussion with no conditions. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the government of India that liberated Dadra and Nagar Haveli from Portuguese occupation but the social organizations like RSS that compelled the Portuguese officials to free Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The liberation of Dadra and Nagar Haveli gave a boost to the freedom movement against the Portuguese in Goa.

Even the former critic of RSS Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru appreciated the volunteer work of the Sangh during the Sino-Indian War in 1962 and had called them to take part in the Indian Republic day parade of 1963. Later in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars too, the RSS volunteers offered their services to maintain law and order of the country and were apparently the first to donate blood. While in 1947 when the major political party shook hands with the Britishers and went ahead with the partition of the country, the RSS opposed the brutish Britishers and Muslim separatism. Sadly, none recalls it today.

The so-called secular parties wastes no time whatsoever in accusing RSS for being anti-nationalist when many of the religious outfits in the country that are working to destabilize the Indian state are seldom checked and controlled for mere political gains . Google it and you will find that the sole motto of RSS is to revitalize the Indian value system based on universalism and peace with an immediate focus on Hindu renaissance, which would build an egalitarian society and a strong India that could propound this philosophy. The organization says, it aspires to unite all Hindus and build a strong India, which could contribute to the welfare of the world. The movement considers Hindus as inclusive of Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, tribals, untouchables, Veerashaivism, Arya Samaj, Ramakrishna Mission, etc. as a community, a view similar to inclusive referencing of the term Hindu in the Indian Constitution.

When the country is suffering from illiteracy and poverty the RSS is taking a lead role in providing the education to people of rural India and socially backward classes living under the extreme poverty. The messiah of Harijans Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar while visiting the RSS camp at Pune observed that RSS volunteers were moving in absolute equality and brotherhood with no sign of caste differences. On the other hand government never misses a chance of creating differences in between different religions and castes. Even in the Jan Lokpall bill where the prime motto was eradicating corruption the government tabled reservations thus dividing the country based on religious lines. Dr Zakir Hussain the former President of India once said that the allegations against RSS of violence and hatred against Muslims are wholly false. Muslims should learn the lesson of mutual love, cooperation and organization from RSS.

The country must understand the evil motive of the government in fueling a conspiracy theory against the social organizations like RSS. Hindus in particular and Indians in general must use their electoral powers wisely in keeping such political parties away from the power module who defame the nation with false allegations. The spokesperson of such political parties won’t gather courage to utter even a single word against the ones who beat up fellow North Indians or against the ones who cry out loud to divide the country for political gains. But never losses a chance to cry foul against the noble deeds of right wing organizations.

A thought may creep in your mind that why the self proclaimed secular political parties are against such a nationalist social organization that has no political inclination?

The fear accumulates from the revolutionary like foundation and working of RSS. Rough figures estimates that there are around 5-6 million RSS member throughout the country. Though the organization has no political upbringing yet the fear of political appraisal worry the political sleuths. Someday mass hysteria cause due to lowering of political standards may bring in revolutionary organization RSS as the central socio-political outfit making it hard for family politics to sustain.

Past Perfect to Present Continuous

Was the motto of my life till few months back… my life resonated with the path of optimism & positive vibe surrounded it until I came in last year of my degree. I never knew the life will take such a drastic shift and things will shape up so differently with twists & turns all around. But then the destiny plays an important role in a person life and when it comes to me it gets eternal supreme powers to disturb the balance of life.

A month back I was a carefree happy go lucky boy without compulsions and now the mere thought of future perplexes me. The pleasurable college days are far gone and now the wicked world awaits me with an iron rod. It’s not like I’m not getting offers, but the crest for the best haunts me.

Even the only arena which ~~somehow with unknown reasons~~ accepted me i.e. the blogging world has become a bit intolerant with me as my last post was a disaster in terms of fellow bloggers comments. I always wrote post for the self satisfaction and will keep on doing till I get bombarded with creative thoughts.

There’s so much to write & read with so less time. I’m into my last semester of engineering which was quite a while ago the most awaited semester but now it seems the most dreaded one. The last sem is an off-campus sem where I have to undergo a 6 months ~~long~~ industrial training because a moron some 14 years back while drafting the law of All India Technical Education thought of exposing the young minds to the real world. Few months back the last sem appeared to be full of new experiences loaded with lots of learning, fun & a new life altogether. But now it appears as it would have been the best if the last semester would have never come up in such a fabulous student life.

Quite true are the above lines as now I miss each & every moment of hostel life. Someday for sure I will craft a post on my hostel life. I don’t know why I came up with this post in the first place, may be at times ramblings help.

UP Future: Trouble Ahead

It has been quite a while since I wrote any political post. I can’t blame the present state of the country for not providing me with enough burning topics :P . Moreover, it was all my ignorance which kept me at bay from interfering in the political scenario of the country. But then it would be read as my negligence if I remain quiet about the recent furor caused by the political instability due to the upcoming state assembly elections in my native state i.e. Uttar Pradesh.

Little bit of knowledge about Uttar Pradesh is essential before plunging deep in the woods. Uttar Pradesh holds the key to the Prime Ministerial seat at Delhi with the most number of MP’s from a single state. Also it’s the country most populous state, amazingly leaving behind many countries. And, importantly, Uttar Pradesh is the second to largest state-economy in India, after the Indian state of Maharashtra. Yet it’s the perfect example of crumbling state machinery in neglect.

UP presently is governed by the Dalit centric political party BSP which sprang the last assembly election with full majority using its unique Sarva Jan Sahay slogan. Interestingly, after coming into power it wasted millions on building large monuments and parks instead of social and industrial development that subsequently can be seen as the last nail in the coffin of a dead poor state. It’s saddening to hear when someone after ruling the state for four long years proposes to divide it into four individual identities on the behest of proper development.

Don’t worry the other major political parties aren’t far from paralyzing the already weakened state. The grand old INC that turned itself into a lucrative dynastic career opportunity left no stone upturned in crippling the state. When the self proclaimed future PM of India begged the state people in a recent rally to bring his party into the power so that they can revive the derailed development projects I felt cheated. It’s making fool of the public when someone asks for five more years after ruling barbarically each and every nook and corner of the country for almost four decades. And adding to the humiliation is the leading figure who reportedly doesn’t know what his cabinet is unto.

I’m not pro-BJP. How can I vote for someone with mixed ideologies? They draft proposals with full vigor in their tenure and oppose the same while in opposition.

Does that happen to make me a communist? I never heard of them in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Are they really campaigning in the state? Do they even have a office here? Ah, then whom to vote… perplexing question. Isn’t it? It’s best to remain at home then to vote for someone undeserving and unqualified.

Why not boycott the whole election fiasco? May be that will force the government to take some bold decisions.

Note: I know there are other political parties like SP & RLD active in UP. But, did I have to waste your 2 minutes more in making you read about them? Also, views expressed are personal.

Weakest Two Hours

I’m sorry Weakest LINK that I’m not been active for a while now but I know as a loyal wife you won’t mistook my unavailability as an act of indifference. Today in the presence of blogging friends, first timers & trespassers I proclaim Weakest LINK as my loyal wedded better half :D. I always wanted to craft a post on the theme “Two extra hours” since the day I saw the mail from IndiBlogger, yet time compulsions. :(

So what if the good God reads my Weakest LINK or the atheist’s theory of everything gets spirited by this post. May be then the Earth would shift some light years away from the powerful Sun and eventually we will end up having 26 hours a day in our pockets to spend. Isn’t that divinity at its best?

Many-a-time I cursed the heavens above for only providing me with nothing but 24 hours. But then noble people at Surf Excel came to my rescue, they spectacularly discovered the secret of adding 2 hours more in your busy lifestyle. And that obliged me to reveal my plans for those weakest yet important two hours.

At the end of the day I end up getting less sleep, I normally sleep by 3 or 4 am in the morning, which eventually makes me to either bunk class and keep sleeping or to do attendance a favor sleep in lectures. Both the ways makes me to miss the golden chance of peeping out on the adjacent class beauties. So given those two additional hours I will definitely end up sleeping. Wow… more time to sleep now!

But, nay… that’s just being like Imitiaz Ali, wasting the euphonious Rehman in Rockstar. So, I won’t waste those hours by sleeping as of now but will used it constructively. I would better dedicate them in building my entrepreneur venture News Not Making News & artistry reshaping the Weakest LINK. For quite a while now the placements drama and the examination fever have kept me at bay with these two things I love the most. So, I would love to devote those two weakest yet significant hours to the creativity of entrepreneurship and art of blogging.

On a second thought, or third, there are still few things left I never find time to dwell at, like socializing. Yeah I find it quite hard to take out time from my daily schedule for those weekend parties and rock shows. It’s not like I hate mingling with people around but the time constraint forces me to keep a distance from such social activities. But then Surf Excel grandeur 2 hours would grant me with some leisure time to spend out with friends partying all night. Yippee..!

I’m still unsatisfied… poor fellow.:(. 2 hours more will permit me to live my passion. I could rove around enjoying the diverse multicultural country. Might be I may end up knowing the essence of being humane. And, on a lighter note… 2 hours more would have allowed me to submit this post at IndiVIne.

Hello friends… it’s been really hard these days to sit around and pen a post. The final year has taken its toll on me... I guess. It’s not like I’m devoid of creative themes but purely I’m running out of time. I wish the Earth would have taken few hours more to rotate thus giving me an extra hour to write. I was really amazed when I saw IndiBlogger coming up with this Surf Excel blogger contest. Hey… don’t get carried away; this post isn’t regarding that… it’s about the fate of India.

The idea of the post came up at a regular coffee break; someone had rightly said… lot can happen over coffee: D. We friends were just passing time by talking of a popular daily television serial viz. Crime Patrol when someone peeked in and suggested to chuck out the states of Bihar and UP out of India to curb crime rates.

What… was my first reaction? How can even someone think of crafting a new India?

For his support he even ~~mis~~quoted various media reports and remarks which by his extreme senses correspond to the degradation of our country. To my utter surprise people instead of taking the notion as anti-nationalist took side by him. I was all shocked to hear their story of nationalism.

Let me tell to all those morons who think that it’s the two states that aren’t helping the country in its growth and development that Bihar has more number of literate people than the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu combined. Also, there is far greater number of Biharis as doctors than the states of Punjab and Gujarat combined. Even the murder rate in Bihar is half that of Mumbai and incidents of molestations happens in Bihar as 1/10th that of Delhi. Profoundly, the state of Bihar produces more wheat then the state of Punjab.

Should I need to mention anything about the state of Uttar Pradesh now? I guess intellectuals might have got my point of mentioning all those fascinating facts. India isn’t someone manor but a mosaic of colorful fabric. We might practice different religion, have different caste and even have diverse cultural heritage but then the idea of one nation is strong enough to bind us together into a single entity. On the other hand it’s this socio-cultural mosaic which in true sense brings out the real picture of unity in diversity, like a bouquet of flowers where every component counts while retaining its specific identity.

It good to take pride in one’s own cultural but worse to feel the other’s as inane. India has been blessed with multi-cultural society and so it’s every Indian prime duty to with hold the integrity of each and every fellow Indian culture. It’s quite saddening when we come across news like popular politician warning of a possible riot over his own provocative remarks on the North Indians.

As a true Indian we must never get carried away with all those anti-nationalist sentiments which quite often are propagated by the same people who have been vested with the responsibility of keeping us united. None would ever want the partition to take place. Only a mentally unstable person with evil intentions will dare to foresee an India bisected into 28 different countries.

Wake up before it gets too late!

With No Preparation

Here comes the 28^th of this month and I will sit for one of the top notch entrance exams of the country. Yeah, majority of you guys would have guessed it right, its Common Admission Test widely known as the CAT. Cracking CAT is the first step towards chasing your MBA dream as it paves way into one of the best management institutes of the country, the Indian Institutes of Management or IIM’s.

You might be thinking so what’s the big deal in that, every year lakhs of students sit for few management seats across the country in hope of making it into one of the IIM’s. But then it’s not about everyone, it’s about me. I have been blessed with a prophecy since birth that nothing will go smooth and in a planned way with me. And, CAT’11 is no exception to it.

Family, friends and well-wishers bombarded me with their suggestions of first earning a good job after the engineering degree, gaining some expertise and experience and then finally switching the gear towards the MBA. But all those suggestions fell on deaf ears; I was least interested in their words. Then putting aside suggestions from fellow college-mates I filled the test date in the middle of festive week.

And here I’m with no air of relief. The preparations haven’t been unto the desired level as it I’m in the battle field with no arms and ammunition's. Making the matter worse are the chances of change in the test centre.

So,
here comes the 28th laughing all the way and here I sit cramping. 

Note: I’m sorry for not been consistent with my posts. The pre-placement tests, major projects, entrance exams and final year are keeping me all busy these days. Yet blogging is not a hobby but a passion for me and so I couldn’t keep much distance from it for a long time.

Everything or Nothing is the tag line of Roadies 9, truly depicting the ambiance at Indradhanush Auditorium, the venue for the Roadies 9 Chandigarh audition. People from all walks of life crowded in to get selected for the most popular youth based reality television series. Roadies series have always lived unto its image of being rowdy and dusty with sharp and ravishing twists and turns where participants compete with each other in some of the annoying, embarrassing and weirdest tasks.

Till 8^th October these lines were just like any other thoughtful words, better only to be read and left behind. But then I experienced the same on my way to the Roadies 9 audition venue. Being nocturnal caused me dearly as I wake just an hour before I was asked to officially report at the venue. Brushing aside any negative vibes I rushed fast so as to compensate for the delay. But then, in the path of joy and me lies the ignorance of bus drivers who took mine waving hand as an act of surrender before their supreme power.

Tension creeping with no other way around me saw a messiah in the face of a young gentleman in his early twenties ridding the Royal Enfield. Finally, for the last time with full vigour I waved my hands asking for a hitchhike. This time God was all with me, gentleman heart resonated with mine, his legs pushing the metallic brakes making his big powerful black sparkling giant to stop at once. The journey which could have taken almost half an hour took merely 20 minutes.

Gayatri, a young beautiful charming lady, working with the MTV India who called me a day before disclosing the news of me getting selected as one of the few bloggers to unleash the backstage hidden secrets of Roadies escorted me to the scintillating podium, on the way handing me a placard with press written in bold letters. Yeah! You read it right, a press card. The auditorium was jammed packed buzzing and sizzling with wannabe roadies. A crew member told me that people have been flocking at the gates of the auditorium since last night, chanting Roadies anthem and shouting slogans.

A beautiful model set the mood high with her blazing anchoring. Soon ex-roadies Bani, Anamika, Mohit and Suchit came in to spur up the mood and in no time whatsoever the auditorium was wobbling with enchanted spirits. Then came up the announcement of the 3R’s coming in which rocked the auditorium like never before; Raghu, Rajeev & Rannvijay were all there with people shouting, dancing and doing it all to show their love, affection and above all passion for the glorious reality television series. Nagesh Kukunoor surprised all with his being there to promote his latest flick starring Rannvijay.

Rannvijay directing all the participants strictly to use only Hindi as the medium of expression in the group discussion touched my heart, even somewhere in the country Hindi is given its due status. Time and again Raghu & Rajeev asked the participants not to wear any masks and conceive their true identity as befooling them wasn’t easy and the repercussions would be tormenting.

Meanwhile our joy spells no bound when we received news of interviewing the ex-roadies. I must confess this that even after being a Roadie Anamika hasn’t lost her perkiness. Ex-roadies narrated their eventful Roadie journey and life after that; they told us that Roadies unlike other reality shows isn’t scripted. They cherished each and every moment of the journey.

The group discussion rounds began soon after and we bloggers were given exclusive permission to be a part of it. It was overwhelming to see the MTV moderator setting the pace of the GD’s with participants doing their bit to outcast each other and MTV crew recording each and every intense moment. The interview with one of the moderator threw light on the essence of Roadies. It’s not always about aptitude but all about attitude which decides a participant altitude.

Best things often happen late and so was the case here as our restless soul waiting to meet Raghu & Rajeev was given solace when Gayatri took us to their room. The twin stalwart narrated their Roadies journey from the very first series till the present one. They told us that nothing can trample hard work and strong will. It was great to see the youth icons full of humility and modesty. I found the mainstream media falsely distorting the image of Raghu Ram and Rajeev Lakshman.

As a token of appreciation bloggers were given goodies from the crew of Roadies 9; thank you MTV India & BlogAdda for bestowing upon us a memorable moment to cherish for long.

Gustakhi Maaf: An Engineer testimony

Being enrolled in a four year degree course which would have not taken more than 2 years to accomplished if our policy makers would have thought out of the box resulted in mine writing this open letter to the Director-cum Principal of my college.

Claimer: The post written here after is not a work of fiction. Any resemblance with dead or going to be dead (most likely to be me; thanks to all those scorching sycophants) is purely justifiable.

Sir, with due respect to your position (fair enough to ruin my career) and your age (fair enough to search Yatra.com) please bear with my impudence. It took my conscious more than 3 years and lots of humiliation to finally wake up to muster courage to pen my emotions. I wish you would have mustered the same amount of firmness and willingness to improve which could have laid me to suspend this self immolation task. Nevertheless, everything happens for good as your failure to curtail the wrongs gifted my blog a post to admire for long.

Have you any idea about the crumbling situation of the college most scientific, modern and engrossing engineering branch? Please stop scratching your head… it has already been nominated for the best cricketing pitch! What, you aren’t able to figure it out the branch name I’m talking off? Mr. Genius, its Electronics & Instrumentation engineering whose students once were referred to as the extra intelligent engineers. Haven’t you noticed the apathy of the college faculty when I used the abbreviation ‘once’? Kindly have an introspection session with the faculty of the respective branch or gear up for the rebellious strike. Dear sir I won’t leave you like that, it took me around 2 weeks and lots of courage to pen down the post. Have you ever been to the college canteen? I will suggest you not to try the daring task of entering it, if the answer to the above question is in negation. I know that the inflation is on a constant geometric rise in the country but then how can you justify the price of a single maggi as Rs. 25 when it hardly comes for Rs 10 in the market? I always thought that MRP was something beyond which a shopkeeper can’t charge you even a single penny. But then the whole notion of MRP has been modified and transformed into LRP which stand for the Least Retail Price. Aren’t you aware of the fact that the canteen manager charges above the MRP? Please don’t nod your head again in negation, it sucks.

These were the two points a student can bear with, but what about the placements, a dream every student envisioned. Campus placements not only brightens up the career prospective of a student but also laden her/him with sense of pride and belongingness to the institute. Time and again I was told that the instrumentation engineering is the core of all industries as majority of them are switching to automation techniques for the production. Then why I’m left on the mercy of joint campus placements? Why I’m always asked to look for major IT companies setting aside my own core industries?

Sir try to teach the faculty art of effective teaching, let them know that teaching if guided by favoritism results in an adverse effect in the mind and soul of a student which could jeopardize the country future as the students are the building blocks of a nation. Merit and not regional background must be kept in mind while rewarding the grades.

The light turned red of the second floor OT at the Swami Vivekananda Polyclinic. With every passing moment her heart sank, thoughts crumbled and dreams shattered. Things were going all smooth for Raj and Sneha, a happily married couple with a girl child Smriti until the dreaded disclosure.

Raj was an entrepreneur who had his hands laid out on many ventures and was making high fortunes because of his exceptional intelligentsia and energetic hard-work. Sneha was an investment banker with a multinational company prior to giving it completely to Smriti care. With few hiccups in any other marriage life things were turning out to be all together pleasant till an hour back.

Raj life had only two passions, making high fortunes and loving his family unconditionally. Sneha equally loved Raj with utmost devotion and cared for Raj as her second child beside Smriti. Raj never asked Sneha about her past and took her as she was. Sneha too forgetting all about her past devoted her complete life to her small family.

But, her past was waiting to haunt her present. Sneha while being an investment banker in Tokyo was in a relationship with a colleague. Investment banker life involves uneasy working hours, long schedules and high work pressure. Away from her home with none for emotional support she looked to him at times of joy and sorrow. To ease out her mood now and then she got into physical relationship with her boyfriend. Sneha’s parents were against her relationship and when deserted by her boyfriend she succumbed to her family pressure of marrying Raj.

Present Day:

Raj was working in his office attached to his house when he received a notification about a new mail from an unknown mailer id. Taking it to be a customer query mail he clicked the notification. The mail contained a video of her wife in sexually explicit act with someone unknown to him.

Raj couldn’t believe his eyes, in dismal and pain he went straight towards her wife who was in the kitchen at the other side of the house. On his way to Sneha his legs slipped through the stairs while his mind was preoccupied with hundred mutinies. Down to ground with thousand wounds Raj only words that he could utter were “Why Sneha”?

Myths of being an Engineering Student

The biggest myth being deep rooted in the neural network of students preparing for an engineering entrance exams is that after completion of 4 years of engineering course he/she will be a proud member of the community of manufactures i.e. will be crowned an engineer. But, in reality only 6 months of industrial training suffixing the engineering is all that it takes to be an engineer.
Engineers are highly paid breed of humans. In contrast, a fresher gets a lower pay package than a diploma holder in a production plant provided you aren't from the herds of " MERE PAPA KE PASS BAHUT PAISA HAI " students.
Engineering and management studies are related. In reality, engineering has nothing to do with management. A lucrative salary is what attracts people to management studies.
Engineers are absolute nerds and geeks who just can't do anything but study. In reality they are the ones who study the least in all their 4 years of graduation.
Engineering student makes lots of assignments which help them getting closer to their subjects. In reality it’s only the girls who make all the assignments on due date, boys believe in the art of copying. An assignment only helps in getting closer to the opposite sex.
The one who passes with maximum marks is the one who knows the concept of engineering the best. In reality such students are the one who have mastered the art of mugging. The one who actually knows the concepts finds it harder even to get grace marks.
Engineering has the most rigorous semester system having no loopholes. In reality, major part of the semesters is spent bunking is needs an immediate revision.
100% placements are all but a trap to get the new admissions.
An engineering student will know how to repair TV, radio, mobile etc. In reality engineering has a vast network of branches. You can’t expect an instrumentation engineer to debug computer software’s.

NOTE: Students preparing for Engineering Entrance Exams please never get occupied by the stray magnetic thoughts of getting a GF once you land up in any of the engineering colleges. Better choose other degree courses instead of ruining your dreams.

A Hard Nut to Crack

Trekking high to the mountains of Kailash at the abode of Lord Shiva finding solace I happened to bounce back on many of the life hardest dark realities which I confronted in my last post. This time I won’t ride the personal cart and will try to discover an accord with country irresolvable disputes.

Our country Preamble provides us the liberty to worship any religion of our choice in a way which suits us the best. Over the centuries many different religions were embraced by the state, many of which like Buddhism and Jainism were formed in order to demulsify the corrupt practices in the main Hinduism religion. Other major religion practiced in the sub-continent is the Sikhism which again finds its root deeply penetrated in the country’s biggest religion, Hinduism. Islam and Christianity are the only two other major religion which were brought up in the sub-continent with the advent of foreign traders and still after years of emulsification are looked down as something extrinsic.

I’m not a religious fanatic but a simple question sometimes haunts me that when majority of religions in India can be seen as the branches of the primary tree Hinduism than why time again and again only the saffron clad people are exempted from the government and other social organizations sympathy? Why aren’t they included in the government religious reforms? Why only there schools of worships are tormented by state associations for disturbing the secular fabric of the country?

Another perplexing topic swinging in my mind is the flexible nature of our constitution which provides RIGHT TO LIVE even to a person who brutally killed thousands. Such is the apathy of political class in troubled states that once a terrorist surrenders he gets a government job with all criminal cases registered in his name omitted irrespective of the fact that the same person killed hundreds of innocent people and many of our brave soldiers died fighting against him.

Have you seen recently a full page advertisement in the dailies letting you know about the government ambitious project? All such initiatives come with a deadline as to complete the project in the set amount of time. But in our great corrupt country hardly ever a project met its deadline. Even after completing the project many loopholes exists telling us about the miserable state machinery.

While heading for the Mt. Kailash I witnessed shoddy affairs of the booming telecom and energy sector. I encountered many hydro-electricity projects on the way but none able to supply electricity to the nearest village even for few hours. While the rest of India is connected through an enhanced communication network the towns there were grasping even for the slightest of signal. Parliamentarians start visiting the villages and towns in your constituencies asking for breath of growth and development or you may have to face lakhs of Anna.

The Dark Reality

I don’t know why I’m unto this, it’s been quite long since I penned down something personal like the present post. May be its all because of positive vibe the Kailash Pilgrimage infused in me.

I’m unable to answer the perplexing question which my soul keeps on bouncing back again and again that why it’s always me who has to face the burden of darkest realities of the life? Why can’t I sit back and enjoy my success? Why people remember me only at the time of need? Why it’s always that the people I care for backstab me? And, why I can’t be me at times?

It’s been pretty long since I cried; I believe boys are born with a hard shell which keeps their eyes at bay from being moist. Yet, today I want to scream at the fullest of my voice. I want an explanation from the Almighty today for all my grief. May be the reservoir of pain has reached its extreme limits which provokes me to behave insanely. I know I can’t be always right but then why I’m always wrong?

I’m still trying to locate the sacred knowledge which can fill the vacuum and provide my soul some solace. The hunt for the treasure house of truth lies unfulfilled. I want to start afresh but the past haunts me. Sooner or later I will be over with this intense phase and will move on with life because at the end of the day show must go on.

Reservations: A Weakest Review

Have you ever been a victim or a beneficiary of the government of India’s policy of reservation? You have reached the right place if your answer is in affirmative and for all others, please don’t waste your time in experiencing one over here. The idea of the post came after I watched Prakash Jha directed full of social and political drama movie Aarakshan last weekend.

Framers of the constitution of India in order to provide equal opportunities to the oppressed lower caste people came out with a questionable and short-sighted idea of providing them with a tool known as reservations. It reserves certain number of posts in public sector units and in all public and private educational institutions for the lower castes.

Reservations over the years changed its prime facia from being given only on the basis of caste initially to particulars like sex, state of domicile, rural people, religion, defence background, sports, NRI, etc making it into the eligibility criteria to avail one now.

Reservations should be based on economic status instead of caste-based-reservations.

Constitution makers in order to avoid widespread resentment created a speculated deadline of ten years to implement reservation with full vigour to wash away all the inequality perpetuating in the society. But due to corrupt vote-bank political practises each successive government in the centre has only increased the speculated time period and even after 65 years of Independence the inequality exists.

Ironically the same constitution guarantee each and every Indian right to equality which is fully undermine by the right to reservation. People supporting it often cry foul of reservations being instrumental in delivering social justice but sadly none government dared to review the actual impact of such policies. Not only reservation schemes weaken equality laws but also it bore from within the quality of education.

Reservation is a tool to meet narrow political ends.

Over the years caste based reservation have wrecked the social fabric of the country instead of providing a environment of harmony and peace as envisaged in the constitution. Reservations cause friction among social groups. Sadly there are instances where castes not included in the reservation fight and clashes with government to also get admitted and enjoy benefits of reservations.

Reservation system with rising unemployment has created a large scale civil unrest in the minds of higher caste people. More and more students from higher castes are leaving the country for foreign universities which has aggravated the problem of brain drain. Half of India living in the villages devoid of schools, hospitals and basic infrastructure don’t need reservations for higher education but socio-economic development in the grass root level.

A year back the women's quota bill was introduced in the parliament thus increasing the competition for victimhood status. Interestingly in few states reservation exceeds even beyond 50% mark thus making it hard for general category to strive for air of progress.

Freedom of Expression

Freedom of expression has no geographical limitation and it carries with it the right of a citizen to exchange thought with others in India was a landmark Supreme Court judgement. Freedom of expression is not only important for individual dignity but also it caters to accountability in a politically democratic country like ours. The right lets an individual to express his/her views and opinions freely without any hesitation.

Yet at times we encounter situations where we felt infringement on our fundamental right. Not only societies, groups or individuals try to curb our voice but also government and elected representatives leaves no stone upturn in order to suppress our rightful stand.

If you are a boy and on to it a student than your life would have been regulated by two monstrous individuals. One a girl who happens to be your girlfriend and the other the cruel college in which you try your best to study. It’s hard for a boy to understand that why he can’t be right before his girl? Why his every move needs a scrutiny? And, why he can’t use his freedom of expression?

On the other hand his college admin strive their best in functioning in a more or less barbaric way curtailing all little freedom of expression he enjoys. He can’t use social networking, video sharing and a plethora of sites because out of 1 crore sites in the virtual world except his college site all others are being blocked for no realistic reason in support.

Even, being a boy you can’t express your feelings to someone you like from the opposite sex again because someone damned came up with Majnu bhagao Gang which happens to be a direct attack on an individual right to expression. Also, it’s hard to digest the fact that people in Thailand, a country smaller than Madya Pradesh (I may be wrong in statistics) boasts of enjoying all sorts of freedom of expression. People can wear any type and size of dresses without any restrictions. How good it would have been for boys living there :D

I happen to bounce back on few of the latest regulations which even the government is considering for checking the fundamental right of expression. The authorities in India are considering making it a criminal offence to insult Mahatma Gandhi after a new biography sparked fresh speculation about his sexual preferences. Also, the government has sought to control the free flow of information on the internet, especially on the social network websites.

So, may be my post confront the college, girlfriend (Please note: I’m single) and government thoughts who may come up with strict laws against the post.

The Survival Challenge

Campus placements have been the most important part of every engineering student's life. As soon as one enters in his last year, not only his parents but also his extended family and friends start waiting for him to get placed. Everyone dreams of getting into a core industry with a double digit salary. The helpless student is bombarded with questions related only with his placement. The pressure starts taking its toll and the same student who few months back never used internet for purpose other than Skype starts online job hunts. Now aptitude seems to be more important than attitude.

The same student who preaches one night study for three long years starts preparing for companies written exams way before the speculated time. If that wasn’t enough to torment a young technical mind, there comes a hell amount of competitive exams like CAT, Gate, CSIR and others. Adding to the ongoing stir in the meta-biological activity of a student are the major projects which carry with themselves the power to re-shape aggregate percentage.

On the other hand, parents after spending their hard earned money takes campus placements as a matter of pride and honour. Any news of their ward getting a campus placement is directly proportional to their social prestige. So now it’s not only about winning the game but winning the game with a six to end the match. Mere placements won’t satisfy them, it’s the campus word attach which makes all the difference.

Here comes the role of seniors, the same students who once took your introduction and more profoundly ragging. They stand like a father figure protecting you from the harsh bitter reality of the professional world outside the four walls of the college. They guide you and more of let you know about the do’s and don’ts of looking for a suitable industry. The last year tests all the networking power which you boast off hitherto.

Yet with all the life deep sarcastic realities touching and moulding the soul, the student keeps on with a wide smile of his which he gained over the years of tough path and narrow blocks. He never misses to catch the glimpse of first year girls and ask them for a formal cum informal introduction. He continues to bunk most of his lectures and sleep in rests, completing his 8 hour of sleep which he missed last night as he was dedicatedly playing Counter Strike.

Dedicated to all those 3.5 lakhs fellow final year engineering students other than the chosen few ( IIT’s and NIT’s) who will soon be churning out action plans for facing the life biggest challenge- the survival challenge. Prepare well and do wonders in your life.

Anti-Ragging Affidavit: A Curious Outlook

For past three years I have been submitting an anti-ragging affidavit for getting myself register for the next academic session in my college.

The affidavit in bold letters read: Undertaking from the Students as per the provisions of anti-ragging verdict by the honorable Supreme Court that I have read and understood the directives of the Honorable Supreme Court of India on anti-ragging and the measures proposed to be taken in the above references. I understand the meaning of Ragging and know that the ragging in any form is a punishable offence and the same is banned by the Court of Law. Also, I have not been found or charged for my involvement in any kind of ragging in the past. However, I undertake to face disciplinary action / legal proceedings including expulsion from the Institute if the above statement is found to be untrue or the facts are concealed, at any stage in future. And lastly, I shall not report to ragging in any form at any place and shall abide by the rules / laws prescribed by the Courts, Govt. of India and the Institute authorities for the purpose from time to time.

Every time when I see my peers and other students outside the notary office fulfilling this impracticable yet noted exercise I ask myself a question… will a sheet of paper help in solving the menace of ragging?

I know an affidavit is more than just a mere sheet of paper; it’s a legal agreement of yours with the state laws whose violations may get you in deep trouble. Still, the question remains intact, does the possibility of getting punish stops one from committing crime? If making laws would have served the purpose than our society would have been crime and criminal free. There would have been no need of police to grab the criminals, lawyers to get them convict and judges for announcement of punishment. Isn’t it?

There’s also another question peeping in my intrusive mind. What’s the difference between ragging and a healthy introduction? Ragging in form of any violent activity can never be justified. But does asking a junior about his/her name falls in the purview of ragging? I won’t talk of other courses but as far as engineering is concerned majority of the students enrolled aren’t from the same city and hail from across the country with varied family and cultural backgrounds. And, thus seniors act as their guardians, friends, counselor and motivator in a new environment. There are colleges across the country where the institution itself organizes introduction party. Also, the same is true when you join a new workplace. So ragging and introduction can’t be seen with the same glasses.

I’m of the opinion that instead of framing laws government, lawmakers and institutions should devote more time and energy in creating an ambience free of criminality in the pensive minds of students.

Also, is ragging a one sided affair?

Yeah almost it is a one sided affair. I never heard something like a junior ragging a senior except in Munnabhai MBBS. But, have heard many-a-times a junior using the special power vested in his/her hand for settling personal repulsive disputes. The voice of the senior is heard only after his being expelled even when he did nothing offensive. Isn't such a callous law against the basic tenets of democracy?

Summing up the post, laws without creating awareness will die out in affidavits like such.

A New International India

Subhas Chandra Bose and many others were adamantly opposed to a standing army. Army’s not only eats away the countries money but also takes its blood. And it just keeps getting worse, politician may say that armed personal are there to defend our freedom but in reality they are fighting and dying to make the rich richer and create endless new enemies for the state.

How can any government justify spending 2.8% of countries GDP on defense related purpose when still after 62 years of Independence we are looked down as a poor country? We have people been starving for millions of years and instead of giving them a better future our country spends billions for becoming a super power and competing in a mad race of power, fame and money.

Why don’t we declare India an international country? Isn’t it wise to drop the boundaries, all passport limitation and disbanding the army? India should declare that it is no longer a nation, that it belongs to the whole world. We truly know the fact that wining a war against China, Russia or America is out of the cards for us. As a matter of fact China already occupies thousands of miles of our land and India has not even the guts to ask them for the speedy return of that land.

Jawaharlal Nehru once said, "That land is useless, not even grass grows there." So if not even grass grows there and it is useless, why did we go to war in the first place? We should have told the Chinese that you can occupy as much as you can. Not even grass grows. We give it to you as a gift. Wasn’t that would have been more gentlemanly—to give it to them as a gift, rather than to be defeated.

So when we cannot win the conventional war why not take some other course? We should declare that from henceforth we won’t be maintaining any army, will be sending all the troops to fields or factories and for doing public good. We have been attacked in our past, so our arms and armies don't help.

People will argue that in such a situation India will become an easy target for anyone to attack but even now we live in such a hostile environment where anybody can attack us—what difference does it make? Even the biggest powers have been attacked. We have seen powerful and mighty nations like Germany and Japan being defeated.

In fact, then to attack India will become extremely difficult because there will be a worldwide condemnation. A country, who declares itself defenseless, drops its arms and goes to the fields and the factories, welcomes everybody who wants to come, to invest and to bring industries. It will be almost impossible for anybody to attack India because the whole world will be against that attacker.

We will garnish so much sympathy and support worldwide that no country will dare to harm us.

Hurry, Before the offer ends… a painful love story!

Once upon a time in the history of torturous high school board days blossom a love story with genuine fragrance of pure jasmine. Those were the tough days of pre board analysis when the school authority kept no stone upturn to bully the callow unadulterated growing minds. Repetitive test paper submission remainders were met with deaf ears. Principal piqued with the Raj successive performance called him one day in her office. For an hour she opened up the front with full vigor against the Raj only to be stopped by a melodious heavenly girly voice.

Raj looked back to see his savior and was dazzled up by the beauty of Smriti. She was a year junior to him yet was the captain of one of the school four houses including his. Something strange happened that day; Raj spoke with none of his friends and preferred to be left alone. Everyone thought it was the effect of principal gospel but none knew that Raj was in love for the first time in his life.

Now his favorite recess sport was to hang in and around Smriti and admire her beauty for hours. He loved the way the gentle summer breeze drove her tingling hairs. Such news can’t be hidden for long and gradually every other student not only in his but also in her class came to know about Raj new found love, including Smriti. But never for once he dared to propose the girl of his dream for the sheer reason of not been able to sustain the pain of refusal.

Even, Smriti liked Raj and admired his looks but waited for him to first express his divine feelings. Slowly and slowly the clock ticked and the time passed. Raj school years came to an end with his 12^th board exam. It was the last day of his school; juniors gave a thrilling farewell party to the seniors.

Raj penned a poem, Your Poor Nerd, expressing his love, gathered courage, drank a cola and went straight towards Smriti with a rose in his hands and admiration in his soul. But all his dreams were shattered when he saw Smriti accepting a rose from his classmate. School ended soon and never ever after Raj tried to meet her.

Rising Oil Prices

Government of India in order to bring local oil prices in an accord with the international market increased the diesel prices last week after a long hiatus. Last time the petrol prices were raised just after the commencement of voting in five states, raising many eyebrows and doubting government intentions. The government cannot solely be blamed for the opportunistic behaviour, as every ruling party in the country has followed the same way of thinking.

"When it comes to political opposition, the ideology matters less."

Never missing the chance to bully the government, the opposition parties throughout the county used the stand of the government to cry out loud against the union wrong economic policies and took out protest movements to show the unrest in the minds of people. Majority of the protest sites were in the states ruled by the opposition parties and in other places they disobeyed the local administration orders thus overall disrupting the normal life of people.

Do such protests yield any result?

Should government roll back the oil price hike?

As already stated, such protests are politically motivated and have no or little public support. Such protests are not more than the demonstration of power by the opposition. And in the recent case it looks like the power of opposition has slipped only to the states being ruled by them. A call for the full day closure of the country hurts the country economic stature badly which subsequently adds to the inflation and burdens the tax-payer. So in no way whatsoever protests like the last week yield desired results.

Government of India by increasing the oil prices at this crucial juncture added nails to its coffin. Yet, it seems to be a much thought of process. Economically it’s a move to provide some air of relief to the debt ridden oil companies. Politically government knows that none of the opposition party including the NDA is in a better situation to demand for early parliamentary elections which are scheduled for 2014. And the government cleverly knows the fact that the Indian voter if once bombarded with lavish pre-election promises forgives the past mistakes. If the government rolls back the price hike then it will again become a laughing stock before the opposition.

So what’s the solution?

Amazingly, the production of oil from the Middle East over the years has increased still the supply lacks far behind the demand. In my earlier post on the petrol price hike I wrote on how to limit your transportation cost and switching to eco-friendly ways while travelling. Use of public transports must be encouraged and private vehicles must only be used at when utmost desired. Bicycles prove to be the cheapest and eco-friendly mode of transportation for small distances. Use of public transports and bicycles will surely help in reducing the burden on the refineries and will somehow assist in saving the ailing environment.
