Shingology

The End

2013-03-03T23:00:00.000+08:00

THE END

Hi all,

I am filled with mixed feelings to announce that this will be the last entry for shingology.

But as you can see from the big new blog add below that I will not be exiting from the blogger sphere but will only be shifting to a new place :)

www.jaymeshing.blogspot.com

I was just checking the date I started on shingology and it went all the way back to 11 April 2005! Thats like almost a good 8years of documenting my life! Shingology has definitely been a really huge part of me... so, I will not be deleting this space and will still keep it for memory sake :)

So as this chapter close, I really really want to say a big big big thank you to all you faithful readers who have been reading here about my life for as long as 8 years or even a couple of years or months or perhaps this is the first entry you are reading (hahaha!). I am always pleasantly surprised when I get comments from people I do not know or my friends telling me that their siblings or friends are loyal readers of my blog :)

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much once again for your support!

So, see you over at the new place!

PS: If you have linked my blog somewhere, please do a relink! Thanks!

Love,
Jayme/ Shing

Boys to Men

BOYS TO MEN

My brother HJ enlisted into national service two weeks ago and it was a really proud moment for my family. As my dad is a regular, he is even more proud than any of us that his son is going to serve the nation. We had a really enriching and eye opening tour in Tekong that day, and as I type this my brother had already booked out yesterday night and we had such a good time catching up with him over family dinner :)

This was 2 days before he enlisted. My dad used to shave my brothers hair since they were really young up till they enrolled into secondary school. They weren't "allowed" to keep their hair because its more manageable being "botak" and even for my sis and I we couldn't keep our long hair until we turn 13yo. Every trip to the salon was a really bitter and teary affair for us. hahaha. So anyway, to have my dad shaved my brother's hair after 10 years was really a very nostalgic moment for them.

It was really quite an emotional farewell. And to our surprise, my dad was wiping away his tears while my mum reacted really calmly. And I was teary too, its really surreal seeing my brother enlisting. What a moment for us all to see my brother really all grown up now :')

Happy Weekend peeps!

DOLCE TOKYO

We stumbled upon this cafe while we were walking in 313 Somerset. It has simple yet pretty table settings and it was relatively quiet for a weekend evening too. We also realized that this dessert place is under MOF hence the similarities in their Japanese desserts. One thing that turned us off a little was the customer service, but it wasn't any big issues and we will probably give it another try since the banana split we had was rather good :)

We shared a banana Split which to me was delicious!
It has green tea ice cream (my fav!) and small chunks of brownies and roasted marshmallows too, yumms!

I will be back really soon to announce a big change for the blog, stay tuned!

Glitter

GLITTER

Have always think that painting my own nails is one really good way of saving money, that's if you are a female that loves painted nails. This year for CNY I did a teal base with silver glitter on top, and I love how it turned out to be! But my guess is, silver glitter always work on any color base, right? :)

Chinese New Year 2013

2013-02-19T01:13:00.003+08:00

CHINESE NEW YEAR 2013

Chinese New Year is my favorite time of the year! It has always been packed to the brim with fruitful visitations and many loy heis! I love the atmosphere of CNY, it has so much joy and positivity everywhere you go! And also its an excuse to catch up with family, relatives and friends, and I love spending such quality time with all these people! :)

Reunion Dinner

I look forward to reunion dinner very much because my MIL's makes super fantastic steamboat with pig stomach soup as the soup base!

After round 1, we then went over to my parents' place. And what a heartwarming sight to see my family hosting my youngest brother's Korean classmate family and my sister's Hong Kong friend for reunion dinner!

My dad and the Korean mum cutting all the fruits at home for the loy hei as my blur sister thought the NTUC loy hei she bought came with shredded carrots, cucumbers etc... "-_-

Super healthy loy hei with apples, pears, dragon fruit and pomelo!

(And i am so surprised my house has that many fruits... hahaha)

After loy hei, we then rushed off for a midnight movie with our friends!
We absolutely make full use of CNY holidays to catch up with our love ones!

Day #1

With my in-laws :)

Our first stop is to Jiahao's paternal grandma house

Here's a shot with all uncles and aunties :)

Jiahao's paternal male cousins

And my MIL also makes the best loy hei, seriously hands down!!!
The taste is just so right and every thing is so delicious that I can eat 3-4 servings!

We then went over to my aunt's place and met up with my family!

Dinner for CNY first night is always steamboat with the gang and this is our 8th year of gathering!

And after dinner and loy hei, we went to catch another midnight movie with some of them! Whoppee!

Outfit for day #1 - Wearing my first cheongsam from Love Bonito

Day #2

My MIL cooked this dish that made me wiped out two plates!

Chinese "Suan Pan Zi" with homemade "Hay Bi Hiam"!!!

And besides helping me to paint my nails at times, she also plaits my hair....

So thankful for such an awesome MIL!!!

Jiahao's maternal side for loy hei and dinner!

(Before this, we went for another two more visitations too!)

Rushed over to my parents' place where my mum's side gathered too!

After trying the healthy loy hei during reunion dinner, they repeated it again as it was rather delicious :)

Wearing my first floral dress for day #2 :)

Day #3

Visited my secondary school teacher for the 9th year!

We watched his kids all grown up now! :O

Back home for another round of loy hei with my SIL's friends

My husband who is an absolute natural at taking care of the kids at any gatherings

And of course we went to visit our dearest godson Joerl!

hahaha!

Loy hei with my ET leaders friends!

Two Saturdays ago, we went for tea at this really pretty place tucked in the west. Have heard so much about it and am glad to finally patronize it. Love the ambiance and the pastries there, definitely worth another visit soon!

+4 FAMILY BIRTHDAYS

January is always the time where my family celebrate the most number of birthdays, as 4 out of 6 of us + my parents wedding anniversary falls in that month. Its has been a lot of celebratory dinners, cake eating and quality time spent with them for the whole month :)

2nd Jan - Happy 22nd Birthday to HJ!

This talented brother of mine has the best set of culinary skills among us, he whips out dishes from his own recipes and even his instant noodles tastes like heaven!

9th Jan - Happy 17th Birthday to DW!

The youngest of us all, my (another) talented brother is an avid photographer and has a set of amazing photo editing skills! Plus he has tonnes of patience for my sis and I when he photographs our ootds. hahaha.

9th Jan - Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary to my lovely parents!

I think the best gift any parents can give to their children is to choose to always stay in their marriage, and for this I am extremely thankful for my parents for doing so. ♥

My brother's amazing salted egg yolk pork chop!!

Dad's claypot rice!

19th Jan - Happiest 60th to my dearest dearest daddy!

He is the ultimate superman of this family, and my biggest inspiration to be more domesticated and dedicated in my own small little family. I love you so much daddy!

28th Jan - Last but not least, Happiest 21st Birthday to my one and only baby sis!
Besides all the clothes/shoes/accessories sharing, I am so glad that I have found a friend in you,
I love you to the moon and back! Xoxo ♥

HOMECOOKED #1

Jiahao and I are people who eat out a lot, because most of the time we are not really at home after work, and if not we are probably just too tired to cook and wash on a weekday. But last week, we are much freed up with our time and we decided to get our aprons out and cook some yummy food!

We did lasagna!

Japanese omu rice with curry by Jiahao

(honestly impressed with the rice wrapped inside the omelet)

Saturday's brunch - Pancakes with fresh fruits by yours truly!

Well, hopefully we can do this like at least once a week? We realized that after eating at home, we saved quite a bit of money and its also a great time of discovering that we can actually cook. hahaha.

Happy Weekend peeps!

THE CHEESECAKE CAFE

One of the most beautifully furnished cafe that I have been to; covered with paintings and sculptures that gives an Italian feel. They also serve good cheesecakes, but do note that each person has to order an item on the menu.

The blueberry cheesecake stands out the most, though the rest are already good enough.

Happy Birthday to dear friends Jin Lian and Darren!

KITH CAFE

I spent the last Saturday of December having brunch at Kith Cafe with my good friend Tingting. Previously I had a really good experience at the outlet at Robertson Quay, so naturally I had quite high expectations for the relatively new outlet at Park Mall. But it was quite disappointing as the food was quite mediocre for the price we pay. But I must say that the location is a great plus, situated directly opposite Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station.

The Big Breakfast - $15.50

Can't remember what this is, but its eggs with bacon, toast with a wild rocket salad.

Thanks for the lovely afternoon! :)

Christmas At Home

2013-01-11T00:14:00.000+08:00

CHRISTMAS AT HOME

As we celebrate Christmas together, I am reminded of the kindness and love from my in-laws, they have been so amazing that sometimes I wonder if its too good to be true. Staying with them for the past year had been full of fun, laughter and warmth, I suspect I will probably be tearing when I shift out to our new house sometime this year.

PS: This is the last Christmas entry, yippee!

Table Manners

TABLE MANNERS

On Christmas Eve, our office department went for Christmas lunch at Table Manners! I personally think its a pretty cool place to dine at and they served decent good food too. Will probably go back again to check out their dinner menu! Anyway I forgot what we had that day for lunch as it was all mix and match set lunches, so the only review I can give in this entry is the hamburger patty I ate that day! Opps :)

I love what I had, everything was tasty especially the caramelized onions that came along with the hamburger!

Thankful for good colleagues!

A PIECE OF GRATITUDE

I love making Christmas cards though it takes up a lot of time especially with the writing at the end. But it's worth all the late nights as I thought back on the times these people have made a difference in my life in 2012. May I keep this "tradition" of card making going for the years to come :)

More long overdue Christmas entries coming up soon!

HEADWEAR

My outfit for "headwear" themed NYE party. Really adore this cute beanie I bought a month ago, but probably lack the occasions to wear it out again as we now say goodbye to "winter" and enter into "spring". How exciting though, whoppee!

PS: Just transferred hundreds of photos from my camera, be back soon with tonnes of visual updates.

2012

2012-12-31T19:54:00.001+08:00

2012

Its been one memorable year in every way.

This year, I am deeply marked by the faitfhfulness of God. Be it the big miracles or the gentle reminders He gave, every single one touched my heart and kept me in amazement of God. Every psalm that I read will also never be the same again this year, it is now coat with many layers of highlighters' colors, underlining and smudged with much tears. His word fed me, encouraged me, comforted me, and led me step by step, day by day. There is no end to thanking what God has done for me this year, I am just thankful that He has kept me and loved me the same.

I am also very thankful for the extraordinary kindness and love I have experienced from the different loved ones (both family and friends) in my life this year. They were like bright lights that shine in the darkest days of my life. I am eternally grateful to the few who have stood by me, prayed for me, understood me, and most importantly loved me despite the condition I was in. You know who you are, thank you :)

And to my husband, lover and best friend, thank you for being with me through the ups and downs this year. One of the best things about marrying you is that I get to sleep in your arms and wake up to your kiss everyday. Thank you for loving me enough to see us through the storms of life, and for being my strength, hope and love when I can seen none. I am one lucky girl to have married you :*

And if there is one lesson that I can share about what I have learnt this year, it would be that I truly know that "I am loved without the doing.. I am loved because of my being". And this is perhaps one of the greatest lessons in life that I will carry it forever.

Happy New Year guys!

"Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise".

CANOPY

Two weekends back, Jiahao and I met up with some of our good friends for breakfast at Canopy! Its really a gem tucked away in the North as we felt like we were somewhere in Dempsey road! We love the ambiance too as its quiet despite being on a weekend morning, and the best part is you can walk over for breakfast after a morning jog at Bishan Park! :)

They have a huge outdoor seating! And we saw a couple of people having breakfast outside with their dogs around too :)

Guess who came to join us? Our super adorable godson, Joerl!

Uncle Gershon and the handsome little one!

SAIL AWAY #3

I slept past the breakfast time, went for a quick lunch and hopped onto the little boat that brings us to Malacca!

Daddy's girls :)

This win the pasar malam ones hands down!

My mum leading the 3km walk to this Nonya restaurant! Its 3km walk because she booked the table but did not have the address so we are walking under the hot sun based on her memory, but no complains since she is the queen of the family, hahaha.

♥♥♥

Told them I didn't want the chendol, just wanted to try a bite..

but I finished it till the very last drop, hahaha

Too deliciousss!

The really small pier at Malacca

We came back to the room and saw a towel elephant with my sis's specs, too cute!

Everyday, we get these newsletters mailed to our room to tell us the events happening on board

Can't help but to think that they are "camp schedules", really awesome!

And we all watch the beautiful sunset from our balcony

And after a super heavy nonya cuisine early dinner, we ate again after 2 hours (Whats new?)

This honey glazed chicken thigh is sooo delicious and tender!

And a really touching farewell speech and song sang by the entire crew at "Romeo and Juliet"

They really scored at making us feel all at home on board :)

And my sister's friend Jerrica was coincidentally on board with us these 4D3N too!

Was really fun having her around!

And 5 of us (Me, JH, my youngest bro, sis and Jerrica) went to play the miniature golf at midnight till 2am. I suspect we could have gone all the way till daybreak but it started to drizzle. It was probably the most fun activity on the cruise, we laughed so hard and screamed so loud, hahaha.

And there you go, our family trip on a cruise! It was a super quality time spent, and i treasure it alot! I look forward to the next one! (Hopefully not after a decade!) ♥

Sail Away #2

SAIL AWAY #2

I can wake up to this everyday

They do egg white omelette too!

Talented crew who fold the towels into different animals and even Gangnam Style!

Jiahao said it was quite scary when you are all the way up there, as the view from top down is the sea view!

Beautiful beyond words

We stopped over at Penang for 4 hours. We did not join the land tour that the cruise had as it was quite pricey. My mum booked a mini van that chauffeured us around to wherever we wanted to go.

Plaza Gurney by Captial Land, nothing special as its pretty much like a Singapore mall.

As we walk to the nearby hawker, our spirits were dampened by the rain.

Honestly, we didn't enjoy the food as much as we thought we would.

We went back to the cruise for a much proper dinner, yes eat eat eat.

(Jiahao skipped this dinner and only sipped tea... and a slice of cake..hahaha)

This lava chocolate cake is deliciousssss!

I think the events team did a great job in planning the programs everyday, by the time we were at day 2, I felt like I was in a "camp", with organized schedules rundown everyday and a great sense of belonging (though we don't even participate all the events). And the pic above is Director Damien with his crazily super high Afro hair for the 70s dancing night!

And our night ended off with hilarious conversations accompanied by this super super crispy irresistible plate of fries at the deck. Its a must try if you are on board the cruise, and the best part is it's FOC and it goes on till 2am daily! We had crazy number of plates of it!

SAIL AWAY #1

Two weekends ago, I was away with my family on a short holiday on the Royal Carribean cruise! Its been more than a decade since we all went for a family trip, hence it was really a very much anticipated holiday for all of us! It was a 4D3N trip with stopovers at Penang and Malacca and here's bringing you the first entry!

We stayed at the Junior Suite that could sleep 4 of us and it comes with a really pretty huge balcony!

The toilet came with a bathtub

Showing you that the toilet is big enough to camwhore abit ;-)

We had crazy fun at the 9-hole minature golf!

But too bad we only discover the fun on the very last night :(

My youngest brother who is an avid photographer!

My 10yo cousin came along too :)

Love this shot of my folks :)

We sail into a place where we could see no end... it was breathtaking and surreal at times...

There are two places to dine - Windjammer Cafe (buffet style) and Romeo and Juliet (fine dining)

We dine at Rome and Juliet daily as the food is much nicer and their service is personalized!

There were shows every night at the theater to watch, it wasn't too bad.
