Visitors had gathered to watch turtles swim at the Laguna del Carpintero in the city of Tampico but were horrified to see the 11-foot crocodile swimming past them with the man's body in its jaws on Thursday.

Local police said the man, who has not been named, had ignored warnings signs posted at the park advising people not to go swimming when he was attacked.

The man's lifeless body was then seen clamped in the crocodile's jaws as it swam near an observation platform used by people to watch turtles at the lagoon.

Police were called and discovered that the crocodile had taken the body into a sewer.

The police said the body was of a man believed to be in his 20s.

Local firefighters discovered the animal and the man beneath a manhole a block away from the park in the Tampico neighborhood of Volantín, Mexican newspaper Proceso reported.

It took an hour for the first responders to remove the metal sewage cover before they were able to tie a rope around the crocodile's mouth and pulled him out. They later proceeded to remove the man's body from the drainage system.

The lagoon is renowned for its crocodile attacks, with a number of people falling victim to the predators.

The incident took place two weeks after a Fernando Martínez fought a crocodile for nearly 25 minutes after the reptile bit his eight-year-old daughter María Martínez and tried to pull her under a lagoon in the Tamaulipas town of Altamira.

Fernando Martínez was fishing and María Martínez was standing over the edge of the lake when the reptile attacked her the afternoon of August 3.

'I was fighting with the crocodile for about 25 minutes, several times he pulled my daughter to submerge her,' he recalled in an interview with digital news outlet Tamaulipas Express. 'I tried to open his snout so that he would release her, he bit her back and one arm, at one point the animal needed to breathe well and it was like that he let her go, I took the opportunity to take get her off.'

In June, a drunken man was nearly dragged by a crocodile into a lagoon in the Gulf state of Tabasco after he attacked a reptile's egg nest.

In June, a woman was killed while she was reportedly washing clothes by the shore at the same Tampico lagoon.

Shocked onlookers saw the crocodile swimming with the woman's dead body in its jaws.

In October 2020, a crocodile chased a man swimming in the lagoon before pulling him underwater and killing him.

The unnamed man, believed to be in his 50s or 60, reportedly ignored a sign warning people not to swim in the area.

Suffering from anaemia and ascites – abdominal swelling caused by the accumulation of fluid, most often related to liver disease – Raja died during treatment. Poojaram pleaded with the doctors and hospital staff for a vehicle to take the body back to his village, around 30 km away. However, he was turned down and told the hospital did not have a vehicle at hand, and he would have to pay for one outside. An ambulance operator parked on the hospital premises asked for Rs 1,500 – an amount the single father of four could simply not pay.

Poojaram decided to leave Gulshan with Raja’s body in front of Morena’s Nehru Park as he went to look for a ride back home that he could afford. Gulshan sat there for around half an hour, with his dead brother’s head on his lap, waiting impatiently for his father’s return. Caressing the body, swatting away flies, a tear or two would roll down his cheek. Soon a crowd gathered and someone alerted the authorities.

Finally, a police officer named Yogendra Singh picked up the body and led Gulshan back to the district hospital where Poojaram and his sons were given an ambulance, at last, to make their way home, added the NDTV report.

Witnesses have described watching in horror as multiple people were killed by a gunman at a July 4th parade in Highland Park, an affluent suburb of Chicago, on Monday.

The shooter - who remains at large - is said to have opened fire from the roof of what was an outdoor outfitting store, picking off people in the crowd who at first confused the sound of gunshots with Independence Day fireworks.

He is described as being between 18 and 20 years old, of 'slight build' with long black hair. He is wearing a white or a blue t-shirt and used what sounds like a semiautomatic rifle in the attack that he abandoned before fleeing.

Police do not yet know the gunman's identity and they are now trying to trace the weapon they found back to its owner in the hopes it will lead them to him. The shooting began less than 15 minutes after the start of the parade. Witnesses have now told how they saw children being picked off in the crowd.

Six people are dead including five adults who were killed at the parade. The sixth victim died in the hospital. Their age is not yet known. An additional 24 people were treated in hospital.

Nicholas Toledo, a grandfather, was among those killed. His family confirmed his death to CBS.

The Governor of Illinois was among the first to call for an end to gun violence while other Democrats - who have been relentlessly demanding gun reform since the Uvalde school shooting on May 24 - invoked irony to make renew their calls for change.

'The fact that no place in the USA is safe from gun terror means no place is truly free. Heartbroken for Highland Park,' Katherine Clark, Assistant Speaker of the U.S. House, tweeted.

Witnesses described seeing children being shot at the parade. All of the confirmed deaths so far are those of adults.

'All of a sudden everyone behind us started running. I looked back, probably 20 feet away from me, I saw a girl shot and killed. I saw her die. I’ve never seen anything like this,' a woman, who gave her name only as Zoe, told CNN.

Police say they recovered a 'rifle' at the scene but witnesses described multiple rounds being fired in quick succession which they say could only have come from a semi-automatic.

'A rifle? No, no. It was an automatic weapon. It was pop, pop, pop, rifles don’t do that,' she said.

President Biden - who has been calling for gun reform since the Uvalde shooting on May 24 which claimed 19 lives - issued a statement on Monday afternoon.

He said he had given his support to the Governor of Illinois and the Highland Park Mayor, and he celebrated his recent passing of a gun control bill.

Zoe, the woman who witnessed a little girl being shot in the head, said the event was for children and dogs who had just passed by when the gunman opened fire.

'One man had been shot in the head, his ear, he was bleeding all over, and he was, like, I’m just happy that’s all happened. There was another girl that got escorted out that was shot in the leg. We were hiding in the basement for quite a while.

'I mean, someone, 20 feet away, you know, someone — and then we went back to get our cars and we saw the streets were quite littered.

'It looked like a battle zone and it’s disgusting.

'It was — you know, everyone obviously remembers the Boston marathon massacre, like a happy marathon, and it’s just a happy day. It’s the Fourth of July.

'It was the kid’s parade and dog parade. Little kids on bicycles and pets.

'That’s who had just walked by,' she said.

Witnesses described a 'sickening' scene and is it feared that children are among the dead.

'I saw multiple lifeless bodies, people in a pool of blood. One father, who survived with his kids, tossed his son in a dumpster.

Miles Zaremsky, a 74-year-old lawyer who has lived in Highland Park since for 60 years, told DailyMail.com: ‘I witnessed the carnage. It was nice outside weather-wise, so I took a walk twenty minutes from my house.

A toddler who was separated from his parents at the parade is now in the care of strangers at the local hospital. He is unharmed and seems to be in good spirits. A local chef picked him up as people ran for their lives. He took him to the hospital where his grandparents collected him later

’I heard multiple shots and I thought it was firecracker… but I heard multiple shots, 30-35 pops if I had to guess.

'The crowd started stampeding. I had ever seen that before. I saw blood on people's bodies.

'Two or three people looked deceased to me[around 25 to 40 years of age]. It was absolutely disgusting and gut-wrenching and I was sick to my stomach.

’I did see a little boy [covered in blood] in his parents' arms who looked [pale]. They were yelling for medics.

'It’s surreal, it's like out of a science fiction but it is real.

‘My wife and I have been living in Highland Park since 1966. It is a beautiful, charming, peaceful, law-abiding community.

'If it can happen here, it can happen in any community in the United States.’

Highland Park is an affluent, suburban city with a population of 30,000. Its residents are largely families and there is a significant Jewish population in the area, but there is no suggestion the attack was anti-Semitic.

Among those who were participating in the parade was a Hasidic Jewish band. One jarring video showed them slowly making their way down the parade route on a float while those ahead of them - suddenly aware of the danger - ran in the opposite direction.

Nineteen-year-old real estate student Rainan Eli, 19, saw the shooting unfold from the window of his apartment on Central Avenue and Second Street.

‘I was just sitting studying for some class I'm taking and watching the parade. I saw lots of people running and at first, everybody assumed it was fireworks being the Fourth,’ he told DailyMail.com.

Eli pulled out his cellphone and recorded heart-wrenching video of people running and seeking shelter as shots being fired could be heard in the background.

He said that two other residents of his apartment building came downstairs with him and gave the 15 to 20 people in the vestibule drinks.

Highland Park is renowned for being one of Chicago's most affluent suburbs; Michael Jordan owns a mansion in the area, and it is also where enormous mansion featured in Home Alone is.

It is among a cluster of wealthy suburbs along the North Shore next to Lake Michigan.

The town's Mayor, Nancy Rotering, spoke briefly at a press conference along with law enforcement on Monday to share her condolences with the families of those killed.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted: 'The tragedy unfolding in Highland Park is devastating.

'I have been in contact with Mayor Rotering and have offered our support, and the Chicago Police Department is providing assistance.

'We grieve with the families of the deceased and injured as well as the entire Highland Park community.

'Law enforcement is working hard to bring the shooter into custody.

'If anyone has information, we encourage them to call 911 and report what you know.'

Unlike Chicago, which has one of the worst gun violence records in the country, violent crime in Highland Park is almost unheard of.

The average price of a home in Highland Park was $714,000 in April 2022 and the city has a population of around 30,000.

At least six were killed when an avalanche in the Italian Alps sent chunks of a melting glacier toward a group of tourists today.

Ten people were also injured in the accident at Punta Rocca on Dolomite peak Marmolada, north-eastern Italy.

All hikers are being rushed off the mountain as officials confirm the risk of further collapses.

Around 15 people were struck by the falling ice, according to Alpine Rescue.

On Saturday the mountain recorded an all-time record temperature of ten degrees.

Measuring 3,343m, Marmolada is the highest mountain in the Dolomites.

Regional Councillor for Civil Protection Gianpaolo Bottacin said: 'I am in contact with the Head of the Civil Protection Department Fabrizio Curcio, to keep him informed, and with the Head of the Alpine Rescue Delegation Alex Barattin.

'For the Venetian side, the 2 helicopters of the Suem 118 of the Ulss of Belluno are already operational.

'Also one of the helicopters of the Veneto Region Civil Protection to transport teams of mountain rescuers with canine units to the place.

A woman has died after desperately trying to swim back to shore after a shark 'bit off her arm and leg' at a tourist hotspot in Egypt.

The Austrian pensioner, 68, died of 'painful shock' - most likely a heart attack - after the attack at Sahl Hasheesh bay in the Red Sea on Friday.

Horror footage shows her clamouring toward safety with the aid of a flipper as the waters around her turned scarlet red.

Terrified onlookers tried to distract the animal, but no one jumped in to help her.

The Austrian tourist, who was married to an Egyptian man, used a flipper to try and clamour back to shore. But she died of 'painful shock' after reportedly losing and arm and a leg

After miraculously making her way back to land, doctors gave her CPR at the scene.

But she died minutes later in an ambulance.

Authorities closed the surrounding beaches for three days.

The woman was reportedly married to an Egyptian man and lived in the country.

Video shows witnesses on a nearby jetty record the woman's survival attempt and comment on her predicament.

A local report quoted by Russian news agency RIA Novosti stated that the shark bit off the woman's arm and leg.

She was taken to hospital but died on the way after her heart stopped and could not be restarted.

It added: 'The woman died in the ambulance from painful shock.'

Shark attacks in Egypt are rare - but the Red Sea has more than 44 species of the fish, some of which can be deadly.

Most common are 6ft-long grey reef sharks, which have 13 or 14 sharp teeth.

Three Russians, one Ukrainian and one German tourist were injured.

A Dominican airline plane carrying more than 100 passengers has crash-landed at Miami Airport after its landing gear failed upon touchdown.

The aircraft ripped through a small building and a communications tower while skidding on its belly across the tarmac before bursting into flames.

Three people were rushed to the hospital after the accident. The plane was carrying 126 passengers and 11 crew members.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the jet's landing gear collapsed. It was part of a fleet by Red Air, a discount airline founded last year in the Dominican Republic.

Passenger Balo Delgado said panic was quickly replaced by reassurance as he saw fire crews at work.

'Panic, almost panic. it was a terrible experience, actually, but like I said I feel safe,' he told CBS Miami, 'It happened like one minute and then you could see all the officers through the window doing their jobs.'

Fire crews quickly arrived on the scene, dousing the burning wing with flame-retardant foam.

The aircraft was a part of the RED Air fleet, and had arrived in Miami from the Dominican Republic.

The plane touched down at 5:38pm. Fire crews were dispatched at 5:39pm, WPLG reported.

A spokesperson for Miami Airport said that flights were delayed due to the crash.

The images, released by the Montana National Guard, provide a harrowing view over the shoulders of crewmen in helicopters as they fly low over the ravaged landscape and towns on June 13 and 14.

In one image, taken over the edge of a helicopter deck, a soldier is lowered by pulley to the roof of a house surrounded by a sea of brown floodwaters.

Another looks out from inside a helicopter, and down on a flooded house where people can be seen standing on the rooftop. A soldier's gloved hand can be seen clutching the pulley cable, ready to go.

The images show neighborhoods submerged in seas of floodwaters, a river valley flooded as full as a lake, and even a rainbow spilling from a rainstorm on the horizon.

The photos - several of which show mountain ranges and Montana plains rolling into the distance - also convey the might and beauty of the landscape that has been so ravaged by the elements in the past week.

The images are the latest in a run of gripping scenes to emerge from the Yellowstone National Park region, as unprecedented flooding washed away roads, homes and bridges, and led to the evacuation of thousands.

Montana has declared a state of disaster over the flooding, yet Governor Greg Gianforte's whereabouts remain unknown, as his office confirmed that he is out of the country but declined to say where, or when he would return to his beleaguered state.

The Montana National Guard shots were taken during rescue missions in the towns of Fromberg, Roscoe, Cooke City, and East Rosebud Lake.

The Guard said it has rescued over 87 people and flown over 41 hours of search and rescue missions since June 13.

The National Guard also said that it deployed 16 members to the town of Red Lodge, which was severely flooded this week.

Dramatic drone footage from Red Lodge, a small town just north of Yellowstone National Park, shows a frothing river rushing down what was once a main street in the town.

Slabs of concrete streets were torn away by the waters, and trees and debris piled high up against buildings and derelict bridges.

The Guard said it has rescued over 87 people and flown over 41 hours of search and rescue missions since July 13

Satellite images taken on Wednesday just south of the park's northern entrance also captured the extent of the devastation in Yellowstone National Park.

The photos show the previously peaceful rivers transformed into raging torrents, and devastation along their banks. In one photo the winding paved roads are seen torn apart by the swollen river, and completely engulfed by the brown waters downstream.

In another set of before-and-after shots, a bridge can been seen to be swept away.

Meanwhile, the Billings water treatment plant restarted operations 'at a very low capacity' on Wednesday night, after it had been swamped by floodwaters. The plant is the only water treatment facility that services the city.

A spokesperson said that the plant is operating at a high enough capacity to meet the city's needs - if residents remain stringent about conserving fresh water.

News of the plant restarting comes after residents of Billings - Montana's largest city - were told they had 24-to 36-hour supply of water when the treatment plant was overwhelmed and shut down yesterday morning.

Governor Gianforte was last seen in public at the groundbreaking of a Montana State University building in Bozeman, on June 10, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. The next day, the first flood warnings were issued for the Yellowstone region.

As local Montana outlets began to note the governor's absence, Gianforte's office released a statement giving a vague explanation of his whereabouts.

The statement said that the governor was on 'long-scheduled personal trip with the first lady,' abroad, and that he would was 'returning early and as quickly as possible.'

Gianforte has been active on Twitter throughout the disaster, writing that he was 'closely monitoring' the situation, leading to outraged and mocking replies from users on the platform.

The governor has also received criticisms from Montana lawmakers, who have accused him of trying to hide the fact that he has been abroad while his state was in crisis.

Eight people have been arrested in China following a vicious attack by a group of men on three women who were eating in a restaurant after one of them denied their unwanted attention.

CCTV footage shows a man walking into a barbeque restaurant in Tangshan at around 2.40am on 6 June, in northern China's Hebei province, when he suddenly sets his focus on a woman sat sharing a meal with two companions at a table by the doorway.

He places his hand on her back, and she quickly grabs him by the wrist to push him away. A few seconds pass and the woman can be heard talking at him, he goes to put his arm around her once more before she pushes him back again - and he responds by striking her in the face.

A scuffle between the two begins - the woman tries to get him away from her by throwing a glass bottle, of what looks like beer, at his head. Her friend gets up and does the same by smashing another bottle at the side of the attacker's head.

He then turns his attention to the friend, pushing her by the neck. She falls to the ground, only to be kicked, hit and smashed with crockery in the head by the initial perpetrator's friend, who joins in on the brutal beatings.

The only time someone comes to the womens' defence inside the restaurant is when the friend is being kicked at on the floor, when another of the three companions who watched the initial interaction between the man touching the woman's back.

She protects her friend by using her body as a shield to stand over her, even withstanding when a chair is chucked over her back.

The alarming video clips have been widely shared online and has sparked outrage over the consequences of facing predatory sexual behaviour.

Horrifying undercover video shows beagle puppies whimpering in pain and distressed monkeys held in neck restraints at an animal testing laboratory in Indiana.

Footage, filmed as part of a seven-month investigation by the Humane Society International, shows the animals appearing to be force-fed chemicals to test the toxicity of drugs at Inotiv Inc's lab in Mount Vernon.

An undercover investigator worked at the facility and was assigned to work on more than 70 toxicity studies, all of which were commissioned by more than 12 pharmaceutical companies, involving more than 6,000 animals.

The investigator found that beagles and monkeys were restrained by staff members at the lab to have tubes forced down their throat and pharmaceutical chemicals pumped into their stomach, the Humane Society claims.

Inotiv has defended its research as 'legally required' in the US for developing medicines.

At least 80 beagle puppies were used in the toxicity testing and forced to ingest the chemicals via a stomach tube every day for months, it is claimed. The dogs were later filmed in their small cages whimpering and staggering in pain - with one seen collapsed on the floor - according to the charity.

'The investigator witnessed dogs continuing to be given doses of substances even when they were vomiting, shaking and had high fevers and laboured breathing,' the Humane Society said.

Video also shows monkeys held by the neck in restraint chairs, with their hands and feet splayed and bound, whilst they were given drugs, the Humane Society said. A pair of monkeys could be seen cuddling at the back of their cage in the footage.

The investigator claimed that during the investigation, which took place from August 2021 and March 2022, at least two monkeys accidentally hanged themselves in the restraint chairs.

The lab veterinarian was also accused of failing to assess or treat severely sick dogs and monkeys - despite them wailing in pain.

The investigator alleged that a monkey was continuously plied with chemicals despite suffering serious adverse effects from a drug. The vet reportedly told the technician that the monkey should be dosed with the drug again.

Whilst the technician was dosing the monkey with the drug, he said: 'I'm so sorry, lady, maybe this will be your final dose. I kind of hope it is because it's torture at this point.'

Video and photographs also show pigs with bloodied skin on their backs as an apparent result of having chemicals directly applied onto them, whilst rats - some with large growths and masses - were squeezed into plastic tubes so they could not move for procedures.

At the end of the tests, the animals are killed and cut open to examine any toxic effects on their body.

The Humane Society are urging Inotiv Inc to release the beagles immediately and put them up for adoption - as they fear 82 are set to be euthanized.

There is no blanket legal requirement by the US Food and Drug Administration for the dogs to be used as test subjects, or to be killed after the test is over. But, the Humane Society says that despite this, Inotiv has 'ignored their pleas' so the fate of the 82 beagles remains uncertain.

'The disturbing findings at this facility cannot be ignored. We are calling for the release of beagles we know are suffering in the lab today and soon to be euthanized, but that is just the start of our work,' said Kitty Block, CEO and president of the Humane Society of the United States.

Block added: 'We must tackle the root cause of this suffering. This seems to be one of the only areas in science where failure to innovate and make change is accepted and, at times, encouraged. It is our hope that sharing the plight of these animals will accelerate FDA and pharmaceutical industry changes to replace outdated animal tests with superior modern technologies.'

Instead of using animal testing, the Humane Society points to techniques such as organ-on-a-chip technologies and computational modelling which can provide 'more human-relevant results than testing on animals'.

Dr Lindsay Marshall, a biomedical science advisor for Humane Society International in the UK, says: 'The debate about animal testing is often mischaracterised as a choice between saving animals or advancing medicines and products for people.

'But the truth is for as long as we rely on failing animal-based test methods, we are limiting the scope of our scientific innovation.

'In drug discovery, pharmaceutical safety, chemical testing, cancer research, the data shows that responses in animals often fail to predict what will happen in humans. As well as being inaccurate, animal approaches are typically time and labour-intensive, very expensive and are less predictive of the human response than new, modern non-animal methodologies.'

Inotiv said that their research is legally required in the US in order to develop lifesaving medicines.

From historic breakthroughs like the discovery of insulin through experiments on dogs, to the development last year of an Ebola treatment via work on genetically-modified mice, and cutting-edge cancer therapies, many scientists believe animal research is crucial to medical progress.

But the testing is supposed to take place under strict laws and policies spelling out its conditions, including the size of cages, room temperatures and the animals' social needs, as well as vet visits and the need for hygienic surgery and post-operative care.

'On April 21, 2022, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) published a report claiming to have placed an infiltrator within one of Inotiv's Indiana research facilities,' said Inotiv in a statement to the Journal and Courier.

'Inotiv leadership has read HSUS's press release and the corresponding report and is reviewing the claims contained therein.'

'Our mission at Inotiv is to help our clients realize the full potential of their scientific and medical research, which ultimately contributes to significant improvement in the lives of both humans and animals.

'The research we do is legally required in the U.S. for developing lifesaving medicines, medical devices and biologics.'

Thousands of cyclists took part in a communal bike ride completely naked in London yesterday afternoon for an annual event raising awareness for safer cycling.

The 18th World Naked Bike Ride has been going every year, bar 2020, since 2004, and is an annual event to campaign for bike safety and car culture in big cities like London.

There are a total of 200 cities taking part in the ride, including Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Vienna, Sao Paolo, Vancouver, Copenhagen, Paris, Thessaloniki, Tel Aviv and Tokyo.

They describe their campaign with a number of themes and objectives, including protest against the global dependency on oil, to curb 'car culture', obtain better rights for cyclists and demonstrate their vulnerability on city streets.

Wearing body paint and trainers - and little else - scores of activists bravely took to their saddles to take part in the London leg of the ride. Many covered their naked bodies in glitter, painted slogans and fancy dress for the annual event.

Last year, the World Naked Bike Ride in London had an estimated 1,421 riders despite the Covid-19 risk reduction measures. Love Island's Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu got plenty of action on Sunday as she put the moves on new boy Jacques O'Neill, just hours after her passionate snog with Davide Sanclimenti.

The actress made her intentions clear as she flirted up a storm with Gemma Owen's ex-boyfriend shortly after he entered the villa as a bombshell contestant.

But she could have some competition on her hands as Gemma admitted to the girls that she still 'fancies' her ex, despite insisting she's fine with him moving on to other girls.

But her head was turned just hours after as Cumbrian-born rugby player strolled into the villa, where he immediately enjoyed a date with both Paige and Afia.

As Gemma later came face-to-face with her ex, she jokingly called him a d**khead' before hugging him.

Later with the girls, she admitted that 'I still do fancy him' and said how 'fit' he was, although she was quick to insist that there's nothing between them anymore and she 'feels no way' about the girls cracking on with him.
