Culture and History
For many visitors to Abu Dhabi, sightseeing is top of the agenda. The city offers a fascinating mix of historic sites, sporting venues, fun attractions and cultural pursuits. Festivals and galleries
Abu Dhabi’s cultural heritage is celebrated in the many festivals and events that take place between October and May. The Abu Dhabi Festival, running from January to May each year, is the UAE’s foremost celebration of art and culture, uniting musicians, performers and artists from all over the world. Other popular events include the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Al Dhafra Camel Festival, both in October, and Abu Dhabi Art – a modern art fair – in November.

To provide a level of chic sophistication to a discerning traveler that is outside the box. Literally, since our hotel isn’t in a box. It is in a re-purposed, architecturally revered building. This one-of-kind discriminating attitude applies to everything – down to those aforementioned studs. We got lucky. The building is fantastic. We made it a little more fantastic by terracing an outdoor pool/spa into the hillside. And let’s talk about the location. In the heart of historic Park City, basking in mountain-urban swank of remarkable dining, shopping and après-ski all within blocks. The design of the twelve suites and rooms – unrivaled. Not that you’re ever going to want to leave us, but in the rare case you must… we have a few ideas. If it’s cold, think snow – as in snow ski, snowboard, snow tube, snowmobile, snowshoe. You can also fly-fish, ice skate, or catch a ride in a sleigh, hot air balloon, helicopter or luge (you know, the usual modes of transportation). If it’s warm – swim, bike, hike. Bobsled, fish, hunt. Golf, run, ride (horse, boat, jet ski, kayak, river raft). There are also big-city caliber museums, galleries, spas, salons, dining and shopping all within walking distance in our awesome little town. Okay, so maybe that was more than a few ideas. We’re not trying to get rid of you. Honestly. Blame Park City for all your options. Or, ignore them all and sit by the fire in the lounge, or in the pool on the back terrace or in your bed with the Pratesi linens. Tough choice, we know.

Hotelier Avi Brosh Returns with Palihotel Melrose Avenue, Opening in February

Three years after opening his stylish extended-stay hotel, Palihouse Holloway in West Hollywood, and over a year after ceding his vision for Palihouse Hollywood to Sam Nazarian's SBE empire, Los Angeles hotelier Avi Brosh is once again back on top with the Palihotel on Melrose Avenue opening in February 2012.
The 32-room boutique hotel is envisioned as a "European neighborhood inn" which is quite the opposite of the Palihouse Holloway, specifically regarding the size of the guestrooms. Where Palihouse rooms start at 600-sq.ft., the rooms at Palihotel will measure about 250-sq.ft. and come in Twin or Queen categories.
And while rooms at Palihouse have little kitchenettes, guests at the Palihotel will instead head down to the Palikitchen, a coffee shop/cafe that will service breakfast, lunch and dinner in a self-service format.
Of course, the trade-off is that rooms at the Palihotel will be crazy affordable, starting at $150 a night.

Yet that doesn't mean Brosh will skimp on design and detail here. Walls will be a deep, dark green, custom-made furniture will be found throughout the property and the guest rooms will have fabrics mixed with brass, cork and other rustic details. In-room products will be signature to the brand but the minibars will be stocked with Dean & Deluca goodies.
The hotel will also feature an outdoor garden with a lounge area, a seven-bed Thai massage spa and a blow-out salon open to hotel guests and locals.
But the best thing about Palihotel, is it's location, literally steps away from great shopping on Melrose Avenue. Fred Segal is two blocks in one direction, Fairfax Ave is two blocks in the other direction and The Grove shopping center is just a mile south. Finally, we have an affordable, non-sketchy, convenient yet design-forward and fun option in the middle of Los Angeles, something this part of the city has so desperately needed.

The 1,700-square-foot suite features neutrals such as whites, beiges, charcoal gray and silver accented with the signature Tiffany blue. Upon entering the suite, guests will recognize many jewel-inspired references. The foyer has a Tiffany-blue glass-beaded and silver-leafed handmade wall covering, while the entry console’s design is a subtle reference to one of Tiffany’s most iconic pieces, the engagement ring. Accent pieces include an intricate jewel-shaped mirror on the wall and a silver-leafed table. The furnishings mix modern, Art Deco and classic pieces, such as McGuire jewel-shaped armchairs, a contemporary coffee table and desk with white lacquer and chrome accents and mirrored side tables. The bedroom has a porcelain flower installation; a bright, contemporary floral patterned love seat; a Tiffany blue striped upholstered headboard, and a lush white comforter.

The living room, with a nonworking fireplace, showcases the suite’s floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Fifth Avenue with views of Central Park. A bar cart features an array of Tiffany crystal barware and accessories. The dining room was designed to resemble a Tiffany blue box. The walls and ceiling are painted a Tiffany blue, and the crown moldings and doors are a contrasting crisp white. The crown jewel of the room is a shimmering and sparkling crystal chandelier, which resembles dripping gems.

“There’s a long history of the two brands [St. Regis and Tiffany] working together,” said a St. Regis spokeswoman. She said in 1991 John Loring, now design director emeritus of Tiffany & Co., designed a Tiffany suite at the St. Regis, which had more jewel tones (emeralds and sapphires), heavier woods and was more masculine in feeling.

The new Tiffany suite, which is a collaboration between the Tiffany and St. Regis design staffs, already has bookings throughout the summer. The price for living the high life at Tiffany? A cool $8,500 plus tax per night.
