What is the most interesting thing about our era now?

That everyone has access to internet/ digital technology —or at the very least awareness of it. It is no longer an elite subculture. It is culture.

How do you see the future of the internet?

I never got into things like LambdaMOO or Second Life and regret missing out. But I think there is a great longing still for the internet to offer make believe as much as representations of reality. It might start to happen in social network spaces as it already has been part of the gaming community

When and how did The Eternal Internet Brotherhood came up?

The Eternal Internet Brotherhood started last year when I was asked from a magazine interviewed by the artists LuckyPDF for Dazed and Confused magazine. They asked what would have been my dream project and I started describing a perfect situation, an ideal working and leisure environment. It included artists, writers, poets, in a beautiful place, escaping from the visual provincialism we all live in front from our screens. For this I used as a reference the tiny greek island of Delos, off the coast of Mykonos, because it was the main cultural centre of ancient Greece. In Ancient times they would go to Delos once a year and perform rituals to glorify god Apollo, the god of Music and Visual Arts. These fairs were really radical in terms of entertainment, creation and sexual expression. It was a space of liberation, a collective hallucinatory experience, and it contained so many definitions of how I see the internet still. After the interview, I just thought, why not try to make this happen for real? I changed the place because Delos is uninhabited and was more of a conceptual reference I chose the island of Anafi which still at our times is calm, isolated beautiful with a metaphysical vibe. Friends were already going there, and the island is framed by an enormous rock, the second biggest after Gibraltar, so it seemed the perfect place to perform this metaphysical portal.

How would you define the experience of first edition in Greece?

First of all I am very happy and grateful that many people came from all over the world. Artists always produced great stuff working in front of the same horizons, and so we replaced the horizon of the screen with that perfect horizon of Anafi, a true spiritual awakening. The situation was really idyllic, easy, hard, the beach at night was like a virtualized reality, the whole thing felt like inside a video game. It was an intimate experience of collective space as we spent time together staying by the beach in tents working, discussing, realizing stuff. There were people who were just only friends on Facebook who met physically at the first time. The vibe was very communal and collaborative, we were also very close with artists participating remotely. The experiment worked!

Why did you choose Mexico for the second edition?

I decided this project to happen every year in a different place which is warm, has a very strong ancient history and beautiful nature. Mexico has all these and I wanted to get in contact more with N. American and Latin American artists. For the next edition I already got invitations to do it in Spain, Portugal, Peru and in Malaysia.

What are your expections for this edition?

We will continue expand notions of distrubution, materiality, social interaction all tied together with corporeal and mental well-being with or without the presence of technology using a wide range of media. This year there are more than 40 artists and still the list is growing. I am already receiving the ideas of each participant and it's an interesting specturm of media and disciplines.

You opened a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo in order to realize the event. In recent months a lot of art initiatives were born thanks to this kind of support: do you think online fundraising is going to change the relationship between art and the wider public?

We live in times where the artist can become the producer, the promoter and the fund-raiser. The global economy is in a precarious state. Personally I live in a wrecked country with a decadent art scene. Funding for projects like this does not exist and never existed for projects outside the art market. God bless the internet and such platforms such as twitter, tumblr, instagram and indiegogo where we can reach out easily to supporters, peers and critics globally in the most transparent ways. In the case of the Eternal Internet Brotherhood our supporters are mostly young people from everywhere in the world of any gender and beyond any social class. This is why I strongly feel crowd-sourcing will really change how exisiting hierarchies function within the art world.

I m asking myself the same question, 'Mirko, why do you live in istanbul?'

There is a feeling of belonging in this place from the first moment you are in, at the same time all is transformed into a nightmare then peace again, it's a city swinging between excitement, inspiration and uplifting feelings vs sadness, frustration, detachment.

What are you doing exactly ?

Starting with the fact that i dont like to define myself and i guess I would not like as well in the future, for the moment i live in a tube of self awareness/confusion; with time and with experience & skills and the knowledge, like it or not, what I investigate will pass through me and I'll see what life brings to me. I can t tell you exactly what, now, but you will see it's going to be incredible !

Where do you imagine yourself in 5 years from now?

It' s up to me to decide.

Last week I was in Moscow

The Polytechnical Museum hosted the show "Mythologies Online"

in which I participated,

It was curated by Nadezhda Sergeevna and Katya Sinitsina

One of my favourite things in Moscow is the Metro

with it's super retro-futuristic stations

I was losing the perspective of space all the time.

So Silver

and spacey.

I found out a new way to see myself: Mirror Screens

and loved the futuristic clothing label Cyberdog worn by Nik Kosmas

Next day we went to the Mayakovsky museum

checked some old revolutionary art

a weird photo inside the museum

Although I loved this military building in the perifery of Belgrade

This is a Hospital serving still the vigilant army.

Entrance is not permitted to foreigners

This is one of the craziest buildings I saw with a great view of the Danube river. Built in the early 70's, initially was a restaurant called the Danube Flower.

Unfortunately there are no info who initially designed this building.

I did not go inside because it heard it has been recently rennovated and it's kind of
disappointing.

I visited the Museum of Yugoslav History- a building from the communist era.

I also visited the Nikola Tesla museum one of world's greatest inventors

How do you think life will be in Athens in the next following years?

I want to believe in a small revival, but maybe it is a utopia. Dense fog in politics. What is the game, who are the players and what are the plans for Greece I don't know. I prefer to live in the moment without thinking about the future, since it will happen. For the past trapped in the future there is only front and rear. One day even the sun is lost, and new worlds will be born.

AnotherSideOfTime.com is my new piece commissioned for the Malta Contemporary Arts' travelling project Parallel Borders curated by Mark Mangion.

On the website we see primitive geometric shapes that create a perspective infinite trail. While moving the mouse colored shapes resurface on top of other shapes marked also by repercussive sounds emerging something like mega-structure.

For me this gestural composition "portrays" a different perspective of time. Nowdays spending time online under the flickering lights of our screens, we establish a twisted relation with time. As post-modern philosopher Paul Virilio puts it in his book Lost Dimension: "…pure computer time helps to construct a continuous present an unbounded intensity that is destroying the tempo of our degraded society [..]".

In this mindset I would say the internet is an outsized invisible monument or even I would call it a monument to an ever-changing present, a materializing force that no longer separates but unravels new realities …The web mega-structure unfolds inside Athens historical site(s) in a unified spatial conquest.

Day and Night in Colombia

Few days ago I was in Bogota.

Bogota is located on an altitude of 2,600 mt

What I liked of Bogota was it's super dystopian urban landscape

Bogota is a city with a perpetual steady climate. Fast variations from sunny to rainy in few seconds all year long.

Lots of architectural variety

and great food.

Walking around Macarena one can admire local graffiti art.

This trip was made because I was invited by Maria Ines Rodriguez
to participate with my gallery Gloria Maria,

The curatorial idea was "City as a laboratory" and I showed few works
from my monuments both imaginary and readymade.

I loved the work of the late Monica Restrepo introduced to me by Lorenzo Giangrandi.

At night Bogota is not scary anymore and it has great things to do.

I visited the amazing Gold Museum

Once you go out from Bogota you start going down the mountains

the temperature is rising

and a jungle appears.

We reached the house of artist Camilo Villegas in Anapoima.

a perfect retreat on a hill slope inside the jungle.

Camilo and Natalia (Valencia) made me a great tour around to check colombian flora

from a typical Mango tree

to the very lush coffee one

arriving finally to the unsuspected Coca tree!

(coca tea boxes can be bought from everywhere).

Warm and humid

Discoveries everywhere

variety of unexpected noises and beautiful smells.

My dream project is a playful adventure in the midst of the greenest, densest jungle full of all the wonders of nature and the world. Breathtakingly exciting and scary at the same time! Full of elements! Earth, wind, fire, water, metal! It makes me climb up mountains and run up and down hills and on to beautiful fields full of flowers. It gives me sunburn and makes me soaked from rain. At moments it takes me into the depths of the magical forest and then leads me out again, through narrow, meandering roads so to discover the roaring power of the sea to which I can run straight into, jumping with my head first, lungs and heart pounding. Hard work, sweat, tears of joy and laughter, sorrow, still waters and calm lakes, fun, drama, rollercoasters, swirling planets, animalism, MOVEMENT, fantastic people, real companionship and love, sharing, hunger and being fed, contentment, silence, peace and energetic intensity!

Emotions, spirit, culture, subculture, decline .. When tired I leave and come back

- We are full of pseudo-reactionaries. How would you describe an original reaction nowadays?

Yes, something like "trend" and the trend of our recent times. The real reactionary except that it has a different dynamic, does not need to prove himself to anyone.
