Hello everyone,
I hope you all are well. My first newsletter in a long time.
Social Media these days for me is a quick way to get some news out and I often forget all about the newsletters.

I have some great news though
I won the best male artist category and the Australian Celtic Music Awards
which was a great treat!

I had no tours or much public performance last year and early this year, however producing two albums and submitting them along with some individual tracks probably pushed me over the line.
Here's a photo of me with the award!

Speaking of the Albums from last year.
Simplicity an album of guitar tracks ( it's the only music I can play), some tracks include accompaniment by strings and other instruments. Which by the way was my first ever attempt at this style of arranging and I quite enjoyed the process.
The cover is a photo of a sunset in Indonesia on the island Simeulue which I took in July 2019.

My 2nd release which was not long after Simplicity is the Passages album.
This album includes both new and old tracks that never made it to any other album.
Some dating back to around 2007 right up to 2019. The cover photo on the album is by Sander van der Werf
and purchased from a stock footage website. He has his own website at www.sandervanderwerf.nl

MP3 sales
As many of you know it's getting harder and harder to purchase music downloads of an artist.
CD baby dropped their store, iTunes planning on migrating to Apple Music (streaming only).

I don't have the Simplicity and Passages albums on CDs yet, I think I will wait till I start hitting the road again before doing so.
I really only sell CDs when I'm playing at an actual venue.

A common name
Peter Miller is a very common name, There are 3 others is Australia in the music industry.
Quite a well known artist in UK and one or two more in USA, There's probably more too.
PeterMiller.com is taken, PeterMiller.com.au and PeterMillerGuitar.com both taken.
last year I received a few emails regarding a write up and a new album yet at the time I had no music out!
Turns out it was South Australian based Peter Miller!
I've still got both Peter-Miller.com and PeterMillerMusic.com registered and probably best to jeep them both!
They'll get snapped up real quick as soon as they are not registered. Maybe I need a new stage name?
Something East European maybe :) , but on the other hand, if I get a bad review I can say it was one of the other Peter Millers...

I hope you are well.
I've been very quiet on the touring front lately. I've still been writing and even worked on a film for 5 months.
I'm hoping 2017 will see me back on the road. There a a couple new singles out in digital format.

The reason for this was mainly for radio and other media where they need to say my website name, peter-miller.com is great and has a good ranking, but sometimes people would miss the hyphen " - " . sometimes they would put an underscore, PeterMillerMusic is easy to say and at the moment it just redirects to my main site peter-miller.com.

LR Baggs:
Just before I started on the film work I made some demo videos for LR Baggs the acoustic amplification company. You can see a couple of the videos below, Recorded with no microphones. only the installed pickups. It's a fantastic sound and I am very very happy with it! Thanks to the LR Baggs team for letting me record these promo vids. The guitar in these particular videos is a AYERS guitar which I'm very happy with. It has a slightly wider and lower profile neck which really suits my playing.

Your Help Please:
I need your help, next year ABC Australia are cutting nearly every single (if not all of them) music program form Radio National. This is one of the very few formats where I can receive airplay from a national broadcaster. One show in particular that I am sad about is THE DAILY PLANET with Lucky Oceans. I've started a petition and hope to get thousands of signatures from across the world. For artists like me it's important to have these shows, they have such dedicated listeners who don't want commercial radio or the music that goes with those stations. If I'm played, I often receive a personal email from someone looking for more of my music.

A side project:
I was involved in a side project with my friends band Mother Nature's Orchestra (MNO). It was the baby of Neil MacLeod, we recorded quite a few tracks in our friends lounge room on my mobile recorder. Most of the recordings are completely live, however sometimes we'd add an instrument or two later .

2014 Tour

Hello everyone I hope you are well.
I had a pretty good tour this time in Ireland and Germany. I didn't make it to Czech Republic this tour, however played some new places in Germany and Ireland so it made up for it.

First stop after the long flight was Ballyboughal Folk Club in the Fingal district of Dublin. It was a real treat to play music with the locals there. I love small towns!! Next was one of my favourite regular places to stop and play and spend a night or two, The Sheelagh Na Gig bookstore in Cloughjordan.

After the Cloughjordan gig I high tailed it out of there and caught a plane to Hamburg where I was greeted by Martin Kasperek , a good old friend of mine I first met in Tasmania in 2007. I really enjoyed roaming the street of Hamburg and surrounds and had a great tour guide for most of it. It is an area where my Great Grand Parents were born from my Father's side.

I played 3 shows in 3 nights thanks to Martin's booking skills. 1st was a house concert in Ellarau, then a Cafe concert at UNIKAT, and finally a nice show at a teaching studio called Voice at Home Studios which is run by Tinna Zahn. The Germans really know how to organise things . I hope I return soon.

After this it was Back to Ireland again.

First was The Grape Escape wine bar in BlackRock (they never payed me, the buggers), Then a lovely gig with John Spillane in Gort at the Gallery Cafe, Then it was the descent drive up to Sligo for a spot at McGarrigles. Then I did a spot in Sailor's Bar on Clare Island, off to Clifden Arts week after that, there I opened for the Rob Strong band ( Remember the hit Mustang Sally, great guys to open for, had a laugh with the kind folk) and also did a show for the old folks at the local nursing home.

I played my first ever show in Inis Meáin (Inishmaan), one of the Aran Islands. it has a population of about 200 and needless to say I got to have a couple swims all by myself!

Then it was off to Cork City, a solo spot at Gulp'd Cafe and the next night a spot with the great Ger Wolfe at L'attitude 51 (The old Lobby Bar). Another long drive up to Tinahely in Wexford to play at the Courthouse Arts Centre then down to Gorey to play a fundraiser which Noel Pattern organised.

After a few days off I went back down to County Cork and once again joined John Spillane at his monthly gig at Debarras Fok Club.
Now after this I did something totally random and flew to South America, no music work this time ( however I did try). I caught up with some friends in Rio de Janeiro. And strangely enough I was sitting in a Cafe by myself and I hear a voice, 'is this seat taken sir', 'no' I replied, only to look up and see it was an old friend I have not seen in 3 or so years. What a small world!! I saw some great music in Rio, but not at the tourist traps of Copacabana or Ipanema, it was more in the inner suburbs where the locals go. Great vibe the Latino Music...
As a great surprise I received a gift while in Rio, a reproduction of a painting by Colombia's great artist, John Pascual Calderon Montoya. Some of John's paintings are in my CD booklet. I had a great time with the family while they were visiting Rio.

Aussie Peter Miller is in absolute control of the steel, wood and the vibrations emanating from his guitar on "Songs Without Words," his third full length CD. A deft touch that is as delicate as it is articulate creates musical paintings, which are alternately lush and austere evoking pathos, joy, peace and solitude. Miller's tunes absorb and enfold the listener in each moment and each note merging sound with thought and space. The opening track, "Pluie Du Soir" and the closing track, "Ice Over", are perfect examples of the rich sonic qualities conveyed with exquisite technique and execution the abound on this disc. The same is true of "The Way Of The Painter" the subtle and seductive "Late Night At The Brown's". A smattering of effects including the tantalizing use of reverb are present on several tracks such as the aforementioned "Ice Over" and the haunting "Snowdonia" giving "Songs Without Words" an appealing sophistication that is clearly contemporary. Both "Stroll To Croaghaun" and the lone traditional arrangement "The Derry Air" add a Celtic and traditional touch to this otherwise starkly original collection of compositional gems. There is mastery inherent in the craft of both composition and performance here that is undeniable fresh, appealing and consistently pleasing from first note to last. These attributes are rooted in a recording process that captures pristine clarity and rich sonic qualities. In other words, considering this CD is self-produced, Miller is obviously equally at home behind and in front of the guitar. Adding to the sonic breadth, several musicians contribute fiddle, flute, and percussion. "The Quiet Man" featuring Steve Wickham (The Waterboys) on fiddle proves to be a joyful yet reverent collaboration. If "Songs Without Words" is any indication, Peter Miller is a rare and resonant talent!

As some of you know my re-release of 'Trip To Dingle' made it Album of the Week in Ireland on Charlie McGettigan's Arts Hour Program, It also was featured on Radio National's 'The Daily Planet' with host and great musician Lucky Oceans. Turns out Lucky and myself have haunted some of the same places along the south west and west coasts of Ireland.

Coal Seam Gas!
My Friends have written a anti Fracking song, I am happy to be involved with this and be apart of this great movement.
Our Friend Andrew Mitch set up his little camera and we recorded it live on the Balcony and it came out pretty good for a live take. I like the kids holding the signs :) .

I had the privilege of being able to see The Waterboys perform twice on their first ever visit to Australia, Wow! What a live band. One of the best live acts I've seen. I saw them in Brisbane doing one of their 'standard' shows and in Sydney performimg their 'Mr Yeats' Show. With flute and Vocal by no other than Local girl Sarah Calderwood! Rock on Sarah.

I was also very blessed and was able to see the amazing Paul Brady , What a songwriter and performer! Thanks for coming way down under Mr Brady, And thanks to Troubadour Touring for getting me in the door. I'm spoilt so I am.

Hello and welcome to the September and October Edition of my Newsletter. I'm happy to announce my CD 'Trip to Dingle' completely sold out and I decided to do the re-release with extra tracks and 12 page booklet. It's only been out a couple weeks and I still need to get on the publicity vehicle and drive it everywhere. My Next solo gig is at the coast acousitc Festival on Sunday 23rd September at 11.00am. It is at Broadwater Park lands Southport QLD. You can see the artist lists for both Saturday and Sunday hereI'm looking forward to the Festival very much, Lets hope for some fine weather.

'Nearly all Irish' is a show I'm doing with Irishman Mick Mchugh and Jack O'Leary. It's a great concert filled with song stories and some onstage banter. April May Ramblings

Hello Everyone, I hope all is well. April and May was a little quiet musically for me. However I did share the stage with Australian icon Kavisha Mazzella at Montsalvat in Victoria. It's a great venue and I once saw the classical guitarist John Williams playing there on a TV show. I always wanted to play there.It's an old Artists colony and it sill has resident artists staying there. painters, Luthiers and all other kinds of art.

I also for the 2nd year in a row played the Australian Celtic festival. It was great to be involved in this event in the town of Glen Inness , New South Wales.

Fans of Richard Gilewitz in Aus/NZ would be happy to know he has returned. It's his 2nd tour of Australia.

And Michael Fix is forever keeping busy bringing a guitar show to all parts of the globe.

Sadly I had to knock back an opportunity to perform in Ireland once again, The cost of the airfare which coincided with the Olympics was far too expensive for me to justify going over for that time. Although I would have flown into Dublin, it seems all fares to that corner of the globe were pushed quite high unless you got in very early.
However, I will return to Eire. It's my 2nd home!!

John Spillane made a short visit to Australia, It's his 3rd tour I do believe. He's a gas character and I always love to join him for a tune or two.

Cygnet Folk Festival

I was very honoured to be able to play the 30th Anniversary of the cygnet folk festival. It was great. USA guitar legend Dale Miller made his first visit down-under. Other highlights were Kavisha Mazzella , The Lamplights, Steve and Marjorie Gadd, Silkweed, Miles to go Band, Nano Stern, Kym Pitman band and many more. Cygnet is in a Beautiful part of the world in Southern Tasmania. On my Second show I asked flute player Brian Owens to join me and we played a couple tunes together. what a gas!! I hope to return and hope the festival goes on and on for years to come....

Hello everyone, Happy New year.
Let's hope 2012 will be a great year full of music and I hope you enjoyed the celebrations.

I'll be playing at the 30th Cygnet folk festival in Tasmania on 6th-8th January. I'm really looking forward to being back in the lovely town. I'm also doing a spot at a showcase night at The Lark in Hobart on Thursday night (5th).Looking forward to seeing Kavisha Mazzella, Dale Miller, The Lamplights and many more playing.

Then on Friday 13th January 6.30 pm I'm opening for a friend at her CD launch. It's at Mandala Arts at Mermaid beach. It's the old 3 worlds shop. After my spot I'm sitting in with a band called Natures Orchestra. Then Kate's band (Leopold's treat) will do their thing.

I've also got another spot on the 1st February working with the local council and supplying some entertainment in old Southport town

Remember to keep an eye out for some 2012 shows in Australia.
Guitarist Richard Gilewitz is returning, Mick McHugh is supporting the legend Ralph McTell on his tour and hopefully you will see me again too.Pierre Bensusan is also returning to Australia. Beoga the Irish trad band are coming back downunder, They are brilliant a real driving force in Irish trad. They get a massive sound live. The Pogues are returning but it's unclear weather Shane MacGowan will be with them. I hope he is travelling with them and is in good health and spirits.

I'm still using the G7th Capos and just recieved a new model to try out. It's called the Newport. It's a very small lightweight capo and works great. The G7ths models all look great and you can order a customised one with your own logos etc if you want to. G7th Capos

Greetings everyone.

I hope this post finds you all well

It's that time of the year again . 2011 was a great year and full of suprises . I had no tour planned but all of a sudden found myself back in Ireland which is always a treat. As a bonus I got to play at United Islands Festival in Prague(Praha). Prague is in the Czech Republic and is an amazing city with lots of little music hide-aways hidden from the tourist traps and filled with warm friendly locals. Some of the Musicians I played with at the Festival were amazing and I hope to return. Freiburg in Germany I also went to and got to play with the "best little band in the world" called Pony und Klyde. Freddy and Charly (friederike & Lena) are great musicians and we did a double bill in a little place that the owner opened especially for us, it was very hot I remember. Like summer here.

Fund-raiser

I recently played a fund-raiser for the Southport special school and they raised well over enough funds for what they needed to do. It was a real mixed bag of talent, Myself doing whatever it is, Kathleen Proctor-Moore and Charles Cooper doing opera/pop/celtic crossover singing. Alison Ahearn singing country/rock and Chris Harvey with some Jazz and easy listening.

Highlights for the last couple years were

Playing for John Spillane.
Being Involved in Cloughjordan Festival.
Playing guitar with Jim 'kimo' West.
seeing Michael Fix play again.
United Island Festival -Prague.
Freiburg-Germany.
Christchurch Cathedral - Waterford.
sneaking in a couple gigs at unplugged in the Basement.
Hanging out with Stephen Housden.
Drinking coffee in a little local Czech cafe.
Sneaking a tune or two in after Sunas.

and I'm sure there is more....

I've updated my website and it's slowly getting filled with content and new info as the weeks go by.

Electric Guitar.
Just recently I've revisited my electric guitar.
I spent a few hours soldering new parts in to get the lovely lady up and running again. She's sounds sweet and have been playing a little with a local jam/ethereal/rock/everything band.

Acoustic Guitar.
My Main guitar, the Maton 808 had been playing up a little. I have some local friends here who are great guitar repairers. However, With a little coaxing though I decided to give someone in Brisbane a look at my guitar. Chris Melville a Luthier in Brisbane who has made guitars for Tony McManus, Tommy Emmanuel and many more totally changed my guitar into a performance wonder instrument. It has been tonally changed through some nifty work on the insides( I've been sworn to secrecy), Stainless steel frets. bone nut and saddle. It's a totally new instrument in plain clothed disguise. I highly recommend Chris to anyone who is a real fussy bugger. There are only a hand full of high-end luthiers like this in Australia. Karen Schaupp the classical guitarist recently borrowed one of his masterpieces for a show with Katie Noonan

Hi Everyone.
We've put some more CD buy options on the store page..
Trying to find a price to compare with countries where CDs are not so expensive.
Added a new captcha protected contact page and are still working on a newsletter sign up box.
The flash website elements will not work on iphones and ipads etc. Apple's refusal to accommodate such a great format is really quite annoying... So many artist websites and applications are still made in flash, even some website stores from large sellers.

I'm off to Tasmania in January 2012 for the Cygnet Folk Festival and there is also a few little local gigs coming up.
Ralph McTell is coming to Australia in 2012 and my Friend Mick McHugh is opening for him.

June/July Tour Ramblings Ireland, Czech Republic, Germany

1st Stop was auld Dublin town. 2 gigs here.
One at the Glor Sessions and it was great. Completely unplugged and a small room in a basement with everyone being ever so quiet and listening.
The 2nd was at Sweeney’s in Dame Street on a Wednesday night, good little crowd and I returned there a week later.
I rambled the busy streets of Dublin for hours at times.

2nd Stop
I did a fundraiser in Killiney ( just south of Dublin) for a local Church group to help some of the less fortunate than ourselves.
It was an honour to be involved. Thanks Ciaran and everyone involved and thanks for the lift to the Avalon guitar factory.
It was great to try some out...

3rd Stop
Czech Republic, Prague (Praha).
I played a couple spots at the united Islands Festival on the Yornet Stage.
There was a great crowd here and people of Prague all seemed to come out for the festival.
I met and got to play with some great Musicians from Carolina and TheNetherlands ( Prague too of course).
I have some new friends in Prague and beyond now, You can get good Asian food in Prague if you know where to go.
The Yournet stage was fantastic, Also I dropped by the world music stage had my feet tapping away for hours.
Thanks to the Yornet crew!! You are all great... We all went to late night music venues after the shows were finished.
And we Finshed the show with Ben Jordan leading all the participants into a unplugged version of ‘Helpless’...
The time limit was up and sound was cut, and the crowd Stayed for the whole last song and didn’t want to leave,
I never experienced anything like it. Thanks Bill and Co.

4th Stop
Freiburg, Germany. A friend I met in Dingle(Ireland) a few years back asked me to come to Freiburg for a gig.
She said Prague is close to there, pop over for a gig. So I did.
I double billed with the coolest little band in the world ‘Pony und Kleid’
Consisting of Freddy and Charly playing a mulitude of instruments.
We played in a little cafe that was specially opened for us on the night. I loved it.

5th Stop
Cloughjordan, Tipperary, Ireland. I was very honoured to be invited to Cloughjordan festival.
Thanks Liz and Everyone there ( they know who they are). I opened for Mary MacPartlan, Taught a workshop
Judged a busking competition and had my own gig as well. I left the town with a big wide smile.
I even saw an old friend in the park on a sunny Sunday,Only in Ireland

6th Stop
Dingle, Kerry,Ireland. I didn’t have a gig as such this year but did a podcast With Mazz O’Flaherty from the Dingle Record Shop.
We had a laugh, even my phone rang twice during the live interview, gee it hadn’t rung for two weeks.
I also caught up with some good friends while in town and played a couple tunes at a session and went to the Dingle Film club

7th Stop
Clonakilty, Cork, Ireland. I stayed with a great guitar player Stephen Housden for a couple days and was treated to some fine home cooking and free lounge room guitar shows.
I also for the 3rd or 4th time opened and also played for the great Irish Songwriter John Spillane. To think that such talent doesn’t mind me hanging around for a tune or two is quite humbling! I also bumped into a friend I didn’t expect to see, that topped off the little stay in ‘Clon’. and thanks to Richie for the pics, Awsome!

8th Stop
Christ church Cathedral, Waterford, Ireland. I hadn’t been at the Cathedral for 3 years and was looking forward to a special gig.
The show went well and some Folk who came three years ago were happy to see me again. Very Cool indeed.
Thanks Joan and also Brian for travelling quite a way.

Overall the whole tour went well, I had less shows than previous years but sold far more CDs of both the new and old one.
I also got to do some exploring on as I had a week spare, I explored Achill Island in Mayo, It was funny, spooky( you had to be there) Rainy, Sunny and a right treat and good company.
Also went up to West County Donegal and had a look around and joined in some music sessions.
The whole trip I caught up with people I didn’t expect to see, I did however miss some good friends in Tralee and Cork. We can’t be everywhere I guess...

Sorry Donnacha, Dave, The Henchman and Caroline to name a few.
Also to Martin in Hamburg, I just didn’t have time

I was very happy to hear that Richard Gilewitz’s first Aussie tour went well. I believe he plans to return..

2009 in Brief

Hi all,
Well it’s about time I typed up a new travel blog.

2009 was a pretty cool year, Apart from playing at my regular haunts, I was fortunate to support Pierre Bensusan on his Currumbin show in April . In May I played at the Melbourne guitar makers Festival and of course Sept/October I found myself back in Ireland. However I did a stopover in the Middle East and played live on Radio Bahrain with ex-pat Englishman Krazy Kev. That was a gas, I’ve never been to the Gulf region and really enjoyed myself.

In Ireland I played my usual haunts in Dingle. Played again with John Spillane and while in Clonakilty I played at Gavin Moore’s sitting room sessions at De Barra’s. I was hanging out in west cork for quite a while this time enjoying the company of Stephen Housden and friends. We all took part in the work record attempt to have the most guitars playing all at once.
It was Clon guitar fest time and got to see Richard Gilewitz play and many more...

I also enjoyed a spot at the Wexford Arts Centre, it was national culture day and it was great to be involved.

Found myself back in the village of Tinahely ,only this time watching a gig instead of playing there.

The Candle light sessions in Waterford was a great little gig too.
Played in some places I haven’t been before, Mitchelstown with Dave Murphy and co.
A nice little café/bookstore in Cloughjordan thanks to Liz who saw me on balcony TV in 2008.
Oh, not to forget another spot on Charlie Mcgettigan's radio show.

Had a nice gig in Bewley’s theatre in Grafton Street Dublin with Dan Carollo, In the middle of all this I managed to play a couple small gigs in Prague thanks to my friend Pavlina.

I played at KRÁSNÝ ZTRÁTY and also Kávovarna, I hope I got the spelling right!
I found some other great music venues also. Czeck republic is a great place.

I missed out on one gig in Galway, the venue closed down. So myself and a long time Dublin friend shot off to county Galway with some riff raff in tow and we hung on the west coast for a few days before I flew back to Australia.

All in all musically it was a pretty good year.
Apart from the last month of it , I injured my arm and could not play guitar for a while.
Still recovering but it’s allot better.

In the beginning of Jan 2010 I’ll be in Tasmania at the Cygnet Folk Festival, I was invited to play there, I have a few musical associates down there I have not seen for ages and am looking forward to saying hi.

So, from the villages and hills of Ireland to the old world streets of Prague and the blistering heat of the Middle east, I managed to fit quite allot in.

Special thanks to those who got me a gig, gave me a room, cooked, looked after my CDs etc you all know who you are!

There is a guy in Dingle who can play just about anything on guitar.

Well I’m due for a new CD, Maybe this year I will get around to it.
I’m hooked on East Europe as well now,

North and south America would be nice too?!

Thanks to Kobya for having me play lead with the Band. It was a blast.
Japan, Yorshire, London, Africa and Australia all well presented.
Go Neil!!! Probably my last proper gig for '09. and I could test out the arm too.

And it's was cool to be on The Pick of the crop CD Vol3, thanks to Trad & Now.

Hopefully a track or two will be in Irish film 'Will's diaries'.... woohoo

Also I managed to get a track on the UK cult show 'Skins'

thanks to the gold coast music crew for filling the gaps and keeping sanity flowing ( or is it insanity)
