"A Letter to Die For" Review

2012-09-14T18:56:00.001-07:00

Description from Amazon:*

Life is good for Cary Anne Warren - until she arranges a vacation for her adoptive parents. Now they are dead and she faces the future alone. In New Orleans, the hunt for birth relatives turns up a mysterious hit-and-run cold case that occurred 25years ago - was it an accident or a killing? Cary appears to be the only one who cares. Clues lead to the halls of government, and with politics involved, the young woman's timing is crucial to unknown and powerful adversaries. A male co-worker inexplicably offers to help in her quest. Cary is surprised at her attraction to this man and at the same time skeptical about his motives. Even with his support, Cary questions her resolve as dark forces threaten to close down her search at every turn. Those who would stop her will use any means available , even murder. But Cary's enemies have not counted on her tenacity. With her unforeseen allies, she could potentially topple the local government and alter a race to the White House. Ultimately, all of her courage and persistence are needed to withstand the oncoming chaos that her investigation has unleashed.

Review:

I recently received a copy of A Letter to Die For by Joe Shumock. I want to start out by saying that I LOVE reading books by local authors! Cary, the main character in the book, is from Knoxville TN and attended the University of Tennessee. I live only an hour away from Knoxville, and I love how I can relate to the places mentioned in the story.

Shumock does an excellent job at creating suspense in the story without being too over the top. Every chapter I read made me want to read more and more. One of the great things about this book is that it is written without any foul language or sexual content. I would recommend A Letter to Die For to readers who like mystery and crime novels.

A Letter to Die For is the first book in the Letter Series novels. The characters in the book are easy to relate to, and by the end of the book you can't wait to find out what is going to happen next. The first chapter of the next book in the series, The Lost Letter, is included at the end of the book. After reading this I can't wait to get my hands on it as soon as it comes out.

Quimbaya Review

2012-08-20T12:52:00.000-07:00

Description from Amazon:*

Cal Bradley just wants his life to be normal. He wants to complete his history project--not travel back in time and become part of it. He dreams of being Most Valuable Player for his middle school basketball team--not causing his rival never to have been born. And he longs to forget about the eighteenth-century pirate that he accidentally caused to time-travel. Instead, Cal must risk his life to save him.

When Cal finds an old wooden box, he has no idea that it hides a special gold medallion that is about to change his life forever. The medallion seems to have a mind of its own, and certainly has all kinds of plans for Cal as it takes him and his friends on a journey that they never could have imagined. Along the way, Cal learns about himself, about helping friends, about taking responsibility. And he discovers that even his enemies are real people, too.

Review:

I recently received a copy of Quimbaya written by Dianne C. Stewart. Quimbaya is a book for young readers. I love that the book is interesting and has a great story without any questionable material. There is no bad language or adult situations. The story also has a theme of responsibility. Cal realizes by time traveling and changing events in the past that he has changed things in the present also. He learns the lesson that he has to take responsibility for his actions.

I recommend Quimbaya to parents who are looking for books for young readers. However, this does not mean that the parent's won't enjoy the book too. I have found that most books written for young readers are too simple for adults to enjoy. This is not the case with Quimbaya . Stewart does an extraordinary job at writing a complex and interesting story that young readers can follow and all ages can enjoy.

Quimbaya is the first book in The Quimbaya Trilogy. The second book is titled Season of the Cold Moon , and the third book is titled Longitude: Zero Degrees .

Adorable Baby Clothing Giveaway (ends 8/31 WW)

2012-08-11T19:59:00.000-07:00

So adorable!

Whether it's a special occasion, pictures or every day, there are beautiful clothes at Adorable Baby Clothing. It's an online store with a personal shopping experience due to the customer service provided. The owner strives for 100% customer satisfaction and does all she can for the customer. I have had many purchases from Adorable Baby Clothing and have never had a bad sale. The clothes may cost a little more than what you might pick up at a discount store but the quality cannot be matched. These are heirloom quality clothes that can be passed on from generation to generation and I should know because I have already passed on numerous dresses to my youngest daughter and now my grandchild.

There are more than special occasion clothing as well, as Adorable Baby Clothing carries baby gifts, every day clothing and more such as Le Top, tutus and personalized clothing.

Not only does the customer service and quality bring me back but so does the ability to shop for various sizes with ease. I used to spend hours in stores trying to find two to three different sizes of the same dresses for my girls. I would find one size but not the other which was very frustrating. At Adorable Baby Clothing, it's as easy as finding the dress I want and using the drop down menu to pick the sizes I want. From infant to size 12, it's a one stop shopping experience for me.

Adorable Baby Clothing offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and free shipping on orders over $40 in the US.

The Giveaway:

One winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to be used online at www.adorablebabyclothing.com. The certificate cannot be applied to shipping costs.

The Grainger County Tomato Festival!

2012-07-29T17:23:00.000-07:00

On Saturday July 28 I attended the Grainger County Tomato Festival in Rutledge Tennessee. I had never attended this festival before, and I really didn't know what to expect. I was absolutely blown away at how fun this festival is! There is something to entertain everyone, no matter what your age.

The festival was organized in 1992 to promote Grainger County agricultural products, specifically the tomato. Local growers set up booths, selling their products. I am not a huge tomato fan, but I have to say the tomatoes I bought at the festival were delicious!

Over the years more and more events were added to make the Grainger County Tomato Festival what it is today. The festival is held every year during the last full weekend in July. I am definitely going to this event next year!

I participated in the Grainger County Tomato Festival Mater Madness 5K. The 3.1 mile course was a challenge, but it was fun. I finished in 39 minutes and 36 seconds. The race started at 7:30am. Prizes were awarded to first, second, and third place overall and to first, second, and third place in each age category. I will be participating in this race in the future, it was a blast!

There was also live music at the festival. There were two music stages, and one dance stage. Pictured are The Dyers, a Bluegrass-Gospel band. There were several other performers featured throughout the three days of the festival.

If you like crafts, you will love the Grainger County Tomato Festival! Pictured above are handmade crocheted necklaces made by Joy Thornton. (Contact her at jo.de.crafts@gmail.com) There were numerous local craftsmen and artists showcasing their creations. Pictured below are wind chimes made by Anne from Ding-A-Lings and Other Things. (Contact her at aeverhardt5069@charter.net)

I had the pleasure of meeting several local authors at the festival. Pictured is Joe Shumock author of The "Letter Series". I also met Dianne C. Stewart author of "Quimbaya". If you are interested in either of these books, I will be posting a full review of each of them soon!

There was a tractor show, a car show, and Civil War reenactors. Like I said, there is something for everyone at the Grainger County Tomato Festival. Pictured below are some more pictures from the event.

Shelly's Bowtique Review & Giveaway 7/29 - 8-15 US

2012-07-28T12:52:00.000-07:00

One of my favorite things about having a daughter is playing dress up. I absolutely love cute outfits, tutus, and hair bows!

Shelly's Bowtique is a one stop shop for all thing cute! She offers hair bows, hair bow holders, decorated sandals, room signs, and more.

The hair bows Shelly offers are top quality. I have bought hair bows from other places that I have not been able to use because the clip would damage my daughter's hair. This is not the case with Shelly's bows. The clip on her bows (pictured below) does not do damage to your hair.

Shelly's Bowtique also has something for the moms. Sandals are a must have summer item, and Shelly has some super cute sandals.

The sandals pictured say "baseball mom." Shelly also offers a large variety of other sandals.

I have learned from experience that baby wipes are a mother's best friend! They can be used to clean sticky fingers, baby bottoms, and pretty much anything. Carry your baby wipes in style with a personalized wipes holder from Shelly's Bowtique.

Click here to check out everything available from Shelly's Bowtique. Shelly has a special offer starting this month:
Anyone who purchases an item will be entered into a drawing for any (one) of these items: A room sign, 5 single layer bows, or one pair of flip flops! The drawing will take place on Friday August the 31st!

Shelly has provided 2 hair bows to be given away to one luck follower! Fill out the rafflecopter from below to enter the giveaway for the 2 hair bows pictured below.
