Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops ( MPO ) is a stealth game directed by Masahiro Yamamoto, with series creator Hideo Kojima acting as a producer. Portable Ops was developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami in 2006 for the PlayStation Portable ( PSP ). It is the third Metal Gear title for the PlayStation Portable and the first one to retain the series' action-based gameplay. Set in 1970 in South America, six years after the events of Snake Eater, the game follows the exploits of Big Boss after his former unit, FOX, goes renegade.The game also chronicles the eventual founding of FOXHOUND, as well as the inspiration of the military state Outer Heaven.

Game Play :

Unlike Metal Gear Acid and its sequel, which were turn-based strategy games with stealth elements, MPO retains the action-based gameplay from the console iterations, drawing heavily from Snake Eater and utilizing the camera system from Subsistence. The main addition to MPO is the "Comrade System."Instead of the solo-based missions that the series is known for, MPO goes for a squad-based approach, with Snake having to recruit his own allies and form his own team of trained specialists. Before each mission, the player must compose a four-man squad, which, at the player's option, includes Snake himself. The desired squad is then sent into the battlefield. Each member of Snake's squad has their own strengths and weaknesses. While some units are best utilized on the battlefield, others may specialize in producing items, healing allies, or providing intel for each of the game's maps.

During gameplay, the player controls only one squad member at a time. The squad members not in use hide themselves inside a cardboard box, and can be swapped into play when the player- controlled character finds a "hiding spot", where they can hide in their own cardboard box.

Characters who are killed in combat are eliminated from the player's squad permanently, unless they are special characters, such as Snake. Special characters also include team mates that are bosses or supporting characters in the story. If a special character's health is reduced to zero, they are sent to the infirmary, in order to recover. The player can also abort the mission whenever it is felt necessary.

A variety of methods can be employed to expand one's squad. If an enemy character is tranquilized or stunned, they can be dragged to a waiting pick-up truck and captured. After a period of game time, the captured soldier will become a member of Snake's team. Also, enemy characters can be dragged to an ally waiting in a cardboard box, where, through the use of a transceiver frequency, they will be ordered to transport the enemy for the player, saving stamina. Alternatively, by accessing the PSP in certain hotspots using the system's Wi-Fi feature, soldiers and even special bonus characters can be recruited. The PSP GPS Receiver can also be used to similar effect. Because some of the player's recruits include former enemy soldiers or personnel, they can walk among the enemy undetected as long as the player avoids suspicious actions.

Another new feature is the surround indicator added to the game's HUD. Similar to the radar in previous titles, the surround indicator allows players to determine the relative proximity of enemy soldiers by the noises they make. The surround indicator is composed of two circles; the outer circle displays the noises made by enemies and inner circle displays noises made by the player himself.

The game also contains a Wi-Fi-enabled multiplayer mode, which is an expansion of the "Metal Gear Online" mode previously featured in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. One's performance in the Online Mode may affect their performance in the single player campaign; the player can recruit and trade soldiers from beaten opponents, or vice-versa. Additionally, certain multiplayer options result in recruits being removed from the one's single player roster permanently.

Character :

Naked Snake (voiced by Akio Ōtsuka in Japanese and David Hayter in English) reprises his role as the protagonist from Snake Eater. While already awarded with the title of Big Boss, he refuses to use that title himself and still goes by his old codename. Snake is forced to fight off his former unit, FOX, after they instigate a revolt in a South American base. Snake's primary ally is Roy Campbell (v.b. Toshio Furukawa and David Agranov), a surviving member of the Green Berets team that was sent to investigate the affair.

The main antagonist is Gene (v.b. Norio Wakamoto and Steve Blum), who became the central member of the FOX unit after Snake's departure and seeks to establish his own military nation. Gene is a product of the Successor Project that aimed to artificially create the perfect commander. The other members of the FOX unit consist of Cunningham (v.b. Daisuke Gōri and Noah Nelson), an expert in the arts of interrogation; Null (v.b. Jun Fukuyama and Larc Spies), a teenage assassin trained to be the perfect soldier; Python (v.b. Yusaku Yara and Dwight Schultz), a former war buddy of Snake who was previously presumed dead during the Vietnam War; and Ursula (v.b. Saori Goto and Tara Strong), a young woman gifted with extraordinary ESP abilities along with her twin sister Elisa (also v.b. the same actresses).

In addition to the above characters, several supporting characters from Metal Gear Solid 3 return in the game as well. Some of them contribute to the main plot, while others are just guest characters who only appear after completing certain side-missions. Virtually every major character in the game can be added to the player's squad either by fulfilling certain requirements or by inputting passwords. Hidden characters can also be recruited, including Teliko Friedman and Venus, the respective heroines from Metal Gear Acid and its sequel.

Story

Six years after the events of "Operation: Snake Eater", portrayed in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Naked Snake's former team, FOX Unit, has broken their allegiance with the CIA and gone renegade. Snake himself is also targeted by the FOX Unit, which sent renegade FOX Unit soldiers to attack and capture him. The game begins with Snake being tortured and interrogated by one of the members of FOX, Lieutenant Cunningham, who's trying to locate the whereabouts of the missing half of the Philosopher's Legacy, with the United States Government having already acquired the other half of the Legacy from the Soviet Union at the conclusion of Snake Eater. Snake is imprisoned in a cell next to Roy Campbell, the sole survivor of an American Green Beret team sent in to investigate the base. Snake learns through Roy that they're on the San Hieronymo Peninsula, the site of an abandoned Soviet missile silo in Colombia. The two escape and Snake makes his way to a communications base, where he attempts to contact his old CO, Major Zero.

Instead, he is greeted by his old FOX comrades Para-Medic and Sigint, who reveal that Snake and Zero are being accused of instigating the revolt and that the only way for Snake to clear their name is to find and apprehend the leader of the rebellion, Gene. To complicate matters, Gene has also convinced most of the Russian soldiers stationed on the base to join their side by simply taking over the chain of command of a former Red Army unit, that was secretly stationed inside the Colombian territory. In order to complete his mission, Snake must persuade enemy soldiers to join his ranks because of the scale of his mission.

Snake and his squad defeat the top members of the FOX unit (if defeated by reducing their stamina to zero instead of their HP, some of the FOX members will join Snake's squad, this includes Null and Python) and eventually they make their way into Gene's guesthouse. Snake learns many things on his way. Cunningham was working for the Pentagon and wanted Snake to push Gene into launching a nuke to Russia to prolong the Cold War (so the Pentagon could keep their importance). Gene was actually aware of this plan the whole time from information from Ocelot. Gene really wanted to launch a nuke at America to destroy the Philosophers and to make his nation of soldiers, "Army's Heaven". Snake destroys an experimental model of Metal Gear codenamed RAXA and eventually defeats Gene, destroying the real Metal Gear itself afterwards. After Gene is defeated he gives Big Boss the funds, equipment, personnel, and all other information regarding Army's Heaven, telling him that one day, he will need to use them. On his return home, Snake is awarded for his actions and establishes FOXHOUND afterwards. In the end it is revealed Ocelot kills the DCI and takes the Philosophers documents to "end them".

After the credits, Ocelot speaks with an unknown man, (it is very possible that this man is Major Zero, since the unknown man referred to earlier by Gene is "the man with the same codename as Null", and Null means Zero, and in a cutscene with Gene and Snake, a mysterious man with a scar on his left eye is referred to as the cunning strategist who planned all of Operation Snake Eater on the phone. Ocelot speaks of using the Legacy to form the Patriots in place of the Philosophers. Ocelot actually wanted the trajectory data of the nuke to point to the DCI so he would bring the documents right to him. Ocelot requests Big Boss be able to 'join' them (he and the man on the phone) in their new endeavor - becoming the Patriots.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is a tactical role-playing game developed by TOSE and published by Square Enix for the Sony PlayStation Portable handheld game console. The game is an updated version of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PlayStation video game console. Following the trend of Final Fantasy video games on PlayStation systems, The War of the Lions features full motion video during certain scenes. These videos are rendered using cel-shading, a technique giving the illusion of hand drawn animation. Because of the PlayStation Portable's screen size, the game features a 16:9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the previous 4:3.

The game retains the setting of the 1998 PlayStation version, in which the fictional kingdom of Ivalice had just ended its war with neighboring kingdom Ordalia, dubbed the "Fifty Years' War". In the PlayStation Portable version, several name changes were made in the retranslation to certain game locations, and certain characters have also been changed. Final Fantasy Tactics revolves around the War of the Lions, a conflict spurred due to the death of King Ondorria. The heir to the throne, Prince Orinus, is only an infant, therefore a regent must be selected to rule in the prince's place. Loyalists of the crown chose Duke Larg of Gallionne as their candidate, while nobles prefer their candidate Duke Goltanna of Zeltennia. Both served as Generals in the Fifty Years' War under the banner of White Lion and Black Lion respectively.

The game adds two new character classes; the Onion Knight, taken from Final Fantasy III, and the Dark Knight, which was previously only available to one character, Gafgarion. In addition, The War of the Lions contains new characters, including Balthier from Final Fantasy XII. Balthier is said to feature an "important role", branded as a heretic in search of the "Cache of Glabados". He joins Ramza (the protagonist) while he searches for his sister, Alma. Another new
character, a monster hunter named Luso from Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift also joins Ramza.

Another development added to the game is a wireless multiplayer mode, both for co-op and versus play. In a versus play, opposing teams may place traps into the battlefield, and these traps will be hidden from the opponent's views. To ease identification and avoid players from attacking their own party members, teams are assigned colors of either red or blue. The battle ends after a set number of rounds, of which the team with the most remaining HP declared the winner. The winner may then receive an item randomly generated from treasure chests, and with this chances are that the winner may receive rare items not received during normal gameplay mode.

Other additions include new items and equipment and an increased character party limit, as well as new scenes that flesh out the backstory of existing characters and explaining more events beyond what the player sees through Ramza's eyes. For example, certain points in the story has the player assuming the role of Delita as he continues on his separated path from Ramza.

Story :

The game is told through the framing device of a historian, Arazlam J. Durai, who is seeking to shed light on an era of Ivalice's history: specifically, the War of the Lions, and King Delita Heiral's rise to power. It is his contention that another man, Ramza Beoulve, is the true hero of the era. To prove it, the game flashes back to Ramza's day, finding him a mercenary employed as a bodyguard to Princess Ovelia. Though Ramza and his companions defend the monastery, a rogue kidnapper sneaks in the back and makes off with the princess: none other than Delita Heiral, future king and Ramza's best friend.

The game's first chapter depicts the past friendship between Ramza, heir to the noble House Beoulve, and Delita, a commoner. Both fight for justice and the common man, but both are astonished when, during a hostage situation, Ramza's elder brother Zalbaag is willing to kill that hostage (Delita's sister Tietra) to expedite a solution. Ramza, having raised hand against his family, is disinherited, while Delita decides to change the world for the better, creating an Ivalice
where the nobility cannot take advantage of the weak and common.

Opening to the present, Ramza catches up to Delita and helps save Ovelia, who was targeted for assassination by the Black Lion faction, led by Duke Larg and Dycedarg Beoulve (Ramza's eldest brother). Ramza then escorts Ovelia to Cardinal Delacroix of the Glabados Church, which neither side will dare to offend. On their way they encounter Mustadio Bunansa, who is on the run from a trading company; Mustadio has a piece of Auracite which this company wants. Delacroix explains that it is one of twelve Zodiac Stones, relics from an ancient Ivalician tale: that of the Zodiac Braves, a group of heroes who defeated a demon summoned to Ivalice by a king with more ambition than sense. Though Delacroix promises to put an end to the trading company, it transpires that he is actually part of a faction within the church that is trying to collect the Zodiac Stones for their own use. This faction is also manipulating and motivating the entire war, urging on Dukes Larg and Goltanna in an effort to expand their influence. Delacroix, invoking the power of the Zodiac Stone when confronted by Ramza, becomes one of the "Lucavi," demons associated with each Stone, and must be defeated, which results in Ramza being branded a heretic. Though Ramza makes many enemies, he also gathers a party of supporters around him, including several who previously supported the church.

Frequent cut scenes depict Delita's rise to power. Like the Glabados Church, Delita manipulates many of the people around him, staging betrayals and reversals to further his own agenda. As more and more persons of power are demoted or killed, Delita's prestige grows; he also romances Princess Ovelia, eventually marrying her and promising never to use her.

The final chapters of the game involve Ramza's fight against the Knights Templar, the faction within the Glabados Church that is gathering the Zodiac Stones. This faction is controlled by the Lucavi and is attempting to resurrect the ancient founder of the church—Ajora Glabados, the chosen host for the leader of the Lucavi, the High Seraph Ultima. As the Knights Templar's agenda becomes more overt, they cause increasing chaos, as Ultima requires vast amounts of bloodshed to be resurrected; among the slain are Dukes Larg and Goltanna, as well as Dycedarg and Zalbaag Beoulve. Alma Beoulve, youngest in the family, is saved for a different fate: it will be her body that substitutes for Ajora's as a container for Ultima. Ramza and his party, however, are able to save Alma and defeat the demon, saving Ivalice from destruction.

The epilogue reveal that neither Ramza nor his friends were ever confirmed to survive that battle. Their only outside friend, Orran Durai, later compiled records of the Church's deceit and went public with the tale. However, he was burned at the stake as a heretic, and his records, the "Durai Papers," lay unheeded for several hundred years until discovered and disseminated by Orran's descendent: the game's narrator, Arazlam J. Durai. Finally, in a final scene, Ovelia accuses Delita of having manipulated her as he does everyone and stabs him in anger. Delita kills her, and then staggers backwards, wondering aloud: "Did you get your end in all of this, Ramza? I...I got this."

Here's How:

1. Find a comic or zine you want to read. Check our 'Zines and Comics links for places to find them.

2. Download the 'zine or comic to your computer. Depending on the 'zine you may need to extract the file (.zip and .rar files need to be extracted using a program like WinZip or a series of .jpg images (or some other image file type compatible with PSP).

3. Make sure there is a memory stick with sufficient memory on it inserted into the PSP and connect your PSP to your computer with a USB cable and set the PSP to USB mode (for more details on this process see this tutorial).

4. Use Windows Explorer (for PC) to drag and drop the file folder containing the comic/'zine into the "PHOTO" folder on the PSP's memory stick.

5. Disconnect the PSP from the computer.

6. To read the 'zine or comic, scroll to the "Photo" menu and press X. You'll see a list of the folders stored under "PHOTO" on the memory stick. Scroll to the folder containing the 'zine or comic you want to read and press X. Press X again to open the first image which will be the first page of the 'zine.

7. Many comics and 'zines will already be formatted to fit perfectly on the PSP screen and can be read as-is. For others you may need to rotate, zoom, and scroll the page to read it. Press the triangle button for a menu and use the arrow keys to select the action. You can also zoom in and out by holding the square button and using the analog nub. Pressing square once (without holding) lets you use the analog nub to pan around the image.

8. Go to the next page of the 'zine or comic by pressing the right shoulder button (pressing the left shoulder button takes you back to the previous image).

Almostly PSP is mainly a gaming machine, it also makes a great portable music player. You won't be able to fit your whole music collection on a single Memory Stick , but you can easily switch to new music once you know how to transfer the files.

Here's How:

1. Insert a Memory Stick into the Memory Stick slot in the left side of the PSP. Depending on how much music you want it to hold, you may need to get a larger one than the stick that came with your system.

2. Turn on the PSP.

3. Plug a USB cable into the back of the PSP and into your PC . The USB cable needs to have a Mini-B connector on one end (this plugs into the PSP), and a standard USB connector on the other (this plugs into the computer).

4. Scroll to the "Settings" icon on the home menu of your PSP.

5. Find the "USB Connection" icon in the "Settings" menu. Press the X button. Your PSP will display the words "USB Mode" and your PC will recognize it as a USB storage device.

6. Create a folder called "PSP" on the PSP Memory Stic k . it shows up as "Portable Storage Device" or something similar.

7. Create a folder called "MUSIC" inside the "PSP" folder.

8. Drag and drop image files into the "MUSIC" folder just as you would save files in another folder on your computer.

9. Disconnect your PSP by first clicking on "Safely Remove Hardware" on the bottom menu bar of a PC, or by "ejecting" the drive on the Mac (drag the icon into the trash). Then unplug the USB cable and press the circle button to return to the home menu.

10. You can listen to MP3, ATRAC3plus, MP4, WAV and WMA files on a PSP with firmware version 2.60 or higher. If your machine has an older firmware version, you can't play all formats.

11. Memory Stick Duo is a better type of stick than Memory Stick Pro Duo for music files. Memory Stick Pro Duos may not recognize all music files.

Turning the system On : Slide the power / hold switch up.

The power indicator light up in green, and the home menu displayed. If the PSP system is turned on with UMD will begin playback automatically.

The system can be used with the AC adaptor connected. In this case, changing will begin automatically. The power indicator lights up in orange while charging.

Do not use the PSP system with AC adapter when the battery pack is not inserted in the system. If the AC adaptor is disconnected suddenly, it may result in damage to the system.

Turning the system Off : Hold the power/switch in the up position for more than three
seconds. The power indicator flashes and then turns off, indicating that the system is turned off.
