Collabro in Manila on Feb. 26

2017-11-27T21:19:00.000+08:00

Manila (Philippines): Collabro, the world’s most successful musical theatre group, will perform for the first time in the Philippines when the four-piece make their debut at Resorts World Manila on February 26, 2018.

The British act, comprising singers Jamie Lambert, Michael Auger, Matt Pagan and Tom Redgrave, won TV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2014 before releasing their debut album Stars, which went to No.1 in the UK and registered double gold in sales. Since then they have released two more studio albums and toured the globe winning millions of fans in the process.

The boys – currently in the middle of a 29-date UK Tour - will showcase their latest album Home when they swap the West End stage for the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World in a show produced and promoted by Spicy Lemon. News of Collabro’s first live show in the Philippines comes just weeks after the group shared the stage with international superstar Lea Salonga at the Lytham Festival in the UK.

“We’re all very excited about playing in the Philippines for the very first time,” said a band spokesperson. “We’re currently touring the UK right now but will be over to Asia in the New Year with shows in Japan before we head over to see our fans in Manila. We’ll be performing songs from all three of our albums as well as some other few surprises.”

Tickets for the show at Resorts World go on sale soon with full details to be announced by Spicy Lemon, organisers of Bamboo’s recent tour of the UK, Ireland and the Middle East as well as Kamikazee’s hugely-popular “Huling Sayaw” concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila.

About Collabro
Collabro is a four-piece musical theatre super-group - winners of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 – whose debut album ‘Stars’ went to No.1 in the UK and subsequently achieved double gold sales.

Their second album ‘Act 2’ was released in June 2015 on Syco, entering at No. 2 in the UK Official Charts and they’ve performed at The Royal Variety Show alongside Dame Shirley Bassey, One Direction and Alfie Boe.

Loved in the UK, Collabro are now winning fans across the world including the US, Canada and Japan. In 2016 they completed their hugely triumphant ‘Act 2’ tour of the UK, selling out venues across the country, including the Royal Albert Hall.

Their third album ‘Home’ – released in early 2017 under their own record label - reached Number 7 in the UK album charts and preceded a sell-out tour with Sir Cliff Richard and the release of their debut single ‘Lighthouse’ in collaboration with Save the Children reaching Number 1 in the iTunes Classical singles chart.

Collabro’s continued success and positive critical response in the live performance and recording markets further affirms them as the leading Musical Theatre group in the world today and they are currently on their third UK tour performing at 30 venues across the country, including the London Palladium. In 2018 they will tour in North America, Japan, the Philippines and give their first performances in Australia.

They have performed twice at the Royal Variety Performance, on Britain’s Got Talent (most recently at the ten-year Grand Final compilation of past contestants) and have become enormously successful internationally. Notably, they have performed for over 30 million people in Japan on Music Station on two separate occasions, completing a tour there and winning a Gold Disc award for top international artist alongside Sam Smith and Meghan Trainor. They have also completed two US tours and signed a major US record deal.

They performed to 7 million people on ITV’s Soccer Aid 2016 to critical appraise, garnering excellent reviews from the press and have been confirmed on the bill of the inaugural ‘Stages’ Cruise in 2018. For more info: www.collabroglobal.com

10 REASONS WHY GETMUSIC NU ROCK YEARS IS THE GO-TO MUSIC EVENT OF THE YEAR

2017-11-19T12:49:00.000+08:00

Without a doubt, the year 2017 has seen more than its fair share of concerts and music-related events by both international and local artists. And while many of them were admittedly fine displays of current, trendy musicianship and well, artists with a present single or two, it is arguable that none of them come close to celebrating an actual movement - or renaissance-like period, if you will – in our country’s proud musical history. In most cases, it’s actually a toss-up between current flavors-of-the-month, and well, artists who are only starting to make their way to our shores after a long wait.

Now, we’re not ones to discriminate or second-guess, but sometimes, one does not need to look any further than our own shores to find the greatest, show-stopping and genre-defining acts who have done our musical heritage proud. Though the invention of the term “Pinoy Rock” was first coined decades ago in the 60s, it was the 90s and the early years of the millennium when we perfected it: groups like the Eraserheads reshaped the sound and the ethic in creating simple, pop-rock anthems and turning them into the soundtrack of our adolescent years, and groups like Rivermaya and Hungry Young Poets added a world-class sheen to their songwriting and studio work, while the strength of hit-making machines like Sugarfree and the Itchyworms continued that tradition well into the millennium.

Simply put, these were they years when local rock music reached the epoch of its creativity, and they all had one institution to rally behind: the iconic radio station NU107FM, simply known as “the home of nu rock.”

And local music fans and music enthusiasts, again, need not to look any further, as this November 25th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, as Smart presents GETMUSIC NURock Years, arguably the biggest assembly of local talent in the Pinoy rock music game. Indeed, audiences can be sure that no other show this year can deliver the magnitude – and the priceless memories – that the GETMUSIC NURock Years promises… but for safe measure, here are 10 reasons to consider why you SHOULD be there:

THE LINEUP CONSISTS OF LOCAL LEGENDS WHO ARE STILL ACTIVE

Though this event is without a doubt a celebration of the songs that were part of the soundtracks to our teenage years, the lineup: which consists of surefire crowd-drawers like ELY BUENDIA, BARBIE ALMALBIS, EBE DANCEL, ITCHYWORMS and RIVERMAYA, is one that does NOT feature nostalgia acts, but one that highlights the musical contributions of artists who are still at-it: changing the shape and sound of local rock music as we know it.

THE HITS WILL BE COMING ALL NIGHT LONG!

You can bet that we’ve got nothing BUT the hits lined-up for you and your friends… that’s right - no fillers, all winners! You know how you sometimes catch a concert and are just waiting for the artist to play that one single that you like most? Well this time, it’ll be ALL the hits you want to hear. Not to mention that a lot of the songs you will hear at this show aren’t always being played these days…

FULL SETS, ANYONE? IT’S FULL SETS FOR (AND BY…) EVERYONE!

Don’t you sometimes hate it when you go to catch small gigs, you dress-up, buy a ticket and brave the rain and traffic for… five songs? Well that won’t be a problem, since the artists taking part of GETMUSIC NURock Years will be doing full sets of their greatest material, so you might want to go to the comfort room before each set starts, and strategically plan-ahead when it comes to buying your food and drinks so you don’t miss anything.

IT’S THE PERFECT SHOW FOR A HOLIDAY SEASON REUNION WITH OLD FRIENDS – AND WE’VE GOT THE PERFECT 4+1 PROMO FOR PATRONS

The holidays are just around the corner, and we Filipinos like to get-together and reconnect with old buddies and special people who have been an important part of our say, high school or college years… and who we might have lost-touch with due to our busy schedules, and general “adult-ing.” So call-up that long-lost buddy, or that ex-flame or that college crush or even that tough guy or gal you were afraid of back in the day and catch-up: if you purchase four (4) Patron Standing or Patron Seated section tickets from the TicketNet Office or any TicketNet participating outlet and/or through the online site ticketnet.com.ph, you will get one (1) free ticket for the same section. You’ve got to hurry though before the tickets fly-fast, because the promo period starts from October 16 to November 25, 2017.

THIS IS THE CLOSEST THING TO HAVING NU107 BACK ON-AIR, AND…

We know a lot of music fans miss the seminal radio station known to aficionados as “the home of NU Rock,” and there are so many stories – from the larger-than-life personalities of the DJs, to numerous events like the NU107 Rock Awards that every serious Pinoy Rock fan – that are expected to be told among like-minded enthusiasts. This is the best opportunity to see not-so-old faces and characters who have been a part of the legacy that NU107 has characteristically left. There are current radio stations who are doing a great job in carrying-on with the tradition, but of course – there will only be one NU107.

…THIS IS THE CLOSEST THING TO A “REUNION.” (SO FAR.)

Let’s not beat around the bush and acknowledge the obvious: the rabid clamor and persistent chatter in the grapevine of reuniting legendary acts like the Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Sugarfree and the like, have always been a hot topic in serious music fan circles locally. And we get it… we’d love for that to happen too! But until the stars align and the universe conspires and throws us a bone, this is just as great in the meantime: you’ll be hearing the same, great musical anthems NOT by a cover band, but from the songwriters and/or original, key-band-members themselves.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!

Work and traffic are two facts of like here in the Philippines. And depending on your situation, both can be main deciding factors on whether or not you decide to go to certain shows and events. Fortunately, Smart Music Live Presents: GETMUSIC NURock Years is happening, first of all, on a Saturday – when traffic isn’t TOO bad, and second, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum located in the middle of the metro, at The Araneta Center. You can conveniently drive yourself there, train-it, cab-it, uber-it, UV Express-it or even trike-it! Definitely one of the main perks of having your event smack in the middle of the metropolis! Heck, you could be living in some far-away province, and you’d still get to the venue with one ride!

DISCOUNTS IF YOU’RE “SMART”

See what we did there? Well, we’re only sort-of kidding, as Smart subscribers will be glad to know that they made the right choice, because all Smart Prepaid and Postpaid, and Smart Bro Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers will be eligible to a whopping 20% discount on all Patron Section tickets. That’s right – just bring proof of your subscription – be it the Smart Signal Identifier, a SIM card or whatever – and you can get 20% off the sale price of up to six (6) tickets per subscriber. You’ve got plenty of time to subscribe!

THIS IS A SHOW FOR THE YOUNG MUSIC FANS, TOO!

Did we mention that none other than Paolo Valenciano will be directing this spectacle? That’s right – this may attract loyal, longtime fans of local Pinoy rock, but you can also think of this as a NU Rock 101 of sorts: a fun, yet highly educational experience that can show the next generation of would-be music enthusiasts on how it was – and is – properly done! Plus, it’s exciting to see how Valenciano’s youthful vibe and spirit will translate into the show which features timeless, age-less music legends.

EVERYONE – AND WE MEAN EVERYONE – IS EXPECTED TO BE THERE

Let’s face it – when it comes to music, it is one of the greatest equalizers in the entire world. Young folks, teenagers, old folks, doctors, dentists, lawyers, industry pundits, record label executives, celebrities, mother, fathers, sisters, brothers, you name it – music makes the world go round, it brings people together and it makes for good memories. And there’s something uniquely special – and utterly emotional – when it comes to our local brand of music. So don’t be the guy or gal who’s staying home that night or somewhere else. Make sure you’re at GETMUSIC NURock Years to celebrate and party alongside all of us who love the music and the legacy of the NURock Years! We promise it’ll be epic!

Throwback: An evening of nostalgia from the eighties

2017-11-07T15:43:00.000+08:00

An evening of nostalgia from the eighties.
by Stephen Lavoie

A decent sized crowd showing up at the Kia Theater to witness this English band formed by core members Gary Daly on vocals/keyboard and Eddie Lundon on guitar. Along with the front act of Peter Coyle, lead vocalist of the Lotus Eaters. Often overlooked, China Crisis is one of those eighties bands that received high praise from critics, yet limited commercial success, moreover, it certainly shouldn’t be. With a bit of research into their music, it’s obvious there’s a deep songwriting skill at work here. Perhaps forgoing the recognition of other bands from that era, due to the subtle and melodic nature of their sound. They did dabble in various experimental sounds, as any synth-pop band would, mixing various styles into a pop sensibility. Consequently, that is what has endeared them to their longtime fans, by maintaining a distinct identity and direction. Accordingly, not as much of a creative restlessness that you often experience with musical groups, with an itch they just can’t scratch, jumping around to various genres. But let’s face it, most of the memorable stuff from the 80’s was more in-your-face, loud and full of rage. On the contrary, China Crisis reached a moderate level of international success from a much more sublet sound.

China Crisis were part of the new wave sensation, their success attributed to finding the right balance of the breeziness of jazz music, to the orchestral mood that classical instruments evoke, combined with the catchiness of a synth-pop commercial hit. They’ve had a string of albums in the eighties with various hit songs, following an on-again, off-again album release over the years, band members have come and gone but Daly and London have stayed the course. Starting from their debut album, Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Some People Think It’s Fun to Entertain, which was released in December 1982, to their latest effort Autumn in the Neighborhood, released just a couple of years ago, their seven albums titles along with a long list of live and best-of releases, is impressive by any standard.

Certainly a treat with Peter Coyle starting out the evening warming up the crowd in fine fashion. Typically the front band for concerts here is not an international performer, it’s usually a local band that you’ve seen live before at your favorite hangout. The Lotus Eaters, just as China Crisis, hail from England and began their career with a core duo of Peter Coyle and Jem Kelly. Coyle performing this evening as a solo artist with a band of Filipino musicians backing him up. Other than one stumble, being unsure of the next song on the setlist, the band performed exceptionally well. Coyle’s vocal prowess hasn’t been left behind in the eighties either, performing in a manner that would surprised most fans from days gone by. Subtle when need be, then lifting up the power when required. Peter also covered the entire stage well, moving in an intentional manner, at times even on his knees matching the emotion in the songs. “German Girl” and “The First Picture of You” were a couple of crowd favorites and Peter stepped off the stage into the audience to get up close and personal with the fans in the venue. Keep an eye out for more, according to the bands Facebook page they are working on releasing an album called A Plug-in Called Nostalgia.

Without much of a break in between sets, China Crisis took the stage to an enthusiastic audience. The duo has performed here before, in various formats, from acoustic concerts to full bands, one visit backed by local legends Rivermaya. This night would have them on stage with touring musicians Jack Hymers on keyboards and synths along with Eric Animan on saxophone, both younger musicians but impressive indeed, also backed by local musicians. The various musicians blended well and contributed with the skill required to create a sound of something you might hear on a record. The setlist eased through recognizable hit songs, smoothly transitioning to newer selections, basically working their way through a considerable back catalog. I enjoyed “King in a Catholic Style,” with a catchy backbeat and the stylized guitar work of Lundon, when “Black Man Ray” and “Wishful Thinking” followed, most folks were on their feet swaying to the sound. You also noticed almost immediately the undeniable charismatic stage presence of Daly, a beneficial attribute from someone who has been around the block. With the only hiccup for the night was when Daly was searching for a towel to wipe his brow, of course making light of the situation. With a bright energy on stage, accordingly, everyone in the audience felt grounded and was assured of a solid evening of music. He wit-fully addressed the fans periodically with a playful banter that only comes from years of experience. Daly was attentive to the audience and when he noticed a group of women dancing in the crowd, he invited them up on stage. He also came down from the stage to mingle with the audience as he performed, generously posing for selfies and welcoming everyone as you would into your home.

The concert produced an overall characteristic of their trademark sound. Certainly, a night worthy of their longtime musical career, highlighting lyrics that are still as well-done as ever and mesmerizing the audience with Daly’s distinct silky voice. Shout out to Steve O’Neal Productions for another job well done. A confident and comfortable show, which took folks down memory lane and by the end of the concert had everyone smiling with delight. Goes to show you this duo still has more to give.

Philippine Wrestling Revolution: Vendetta 2017 on Nov. 5

2017-10-31T22:19:00.000+08:00

Philippine Wrestling Revolution’s final show of 2017 is a special one because of two things: (1) PWR Vendetta is presented by the company’s first ever major sponsor Yellow Cab Pizza Co., and (2) it is PWR’s milestone 30th live show. So with that, you can expect nothing but the biggest matches and the biggest names in Philippine wrestling to headline the historic show. We have a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get to the booked matches.

UBUSAN NG LAHI: Team Sy vs. Team Sebastian

It’s a turbulent time in Philippine Wrestling Revolution. John Sebastian has revealed that he now owns 50% of the company after he anonymously granted PWR a large sum of money to help lift it out from a very public bankruptcy scandal. Now that PWR has started to slowly become a profitable entity, the generous donation of John Sebastian has granted him operational powers and as much a say in the company as the PWR General Manager himself. Mr. Sy, however, knows that handing over that kind of power to Sebastian would be catastrophic for PWR, or the entire local wrestling scene for that matter. Both being gentlemen, they have agreed to each form a team of five to settle the score on their behalf in the Philippines’ first ever Ubusan ng Lahi Match.

Mr. Sy has the following members in his team: the current Kampeon ng Pilipinas Chris Panzer (Team Captain), Fighters 4 Hire’s Miguel Rosales and Joey Bax, Dax Xaviera, and their latest recruit SANDATA.

John Sebastian is yet to find his fifth and final team member by November 5th, but as of today these are the members of Team Sebastian: John Sebastian himself, Peter Versoza, and MTNH’s Ralph Imabayashi and Rederick Mahaba.

Pick your side.

3-WAY PHX CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Mike Madrigal (c) vs. Bolt vs. Zayden Trudeau

Two of PWR’s most exciting newcomers Bolt and Zayden Trudeau have given us some of the most memorable matches in Philippine wrestling history. And for months and months of consistently proving to fans and naysayers alike just how ready they are for the main event stage, they both have earned a shot at taking away the Philippine Hybrid X Championship away from the bird-flipping, hard-hitting, trash-talking Mike Madrigal. Experience wise, Madrigal has the advantage over both Bolt and Trudeau. However, momentum is on the latter two’s sides -- with Bolt beating Mike Madrigal clean in a non-title match during the last PWR Live show; and Trudeau beating no less than former ECCW Champion Billy Suede himself on the same night. With the two warriors hungry for a championship, Mike Madrigal has a lot to worry about.

3-WAY PWR TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Network (c) vs. Trian Dela Torre and Evan Carleaux vs. KakaiBros

Trian Dela Torre and Evan Carleaux, a.k.a. TDTxECX, were this close to taking the PWR Tag Team Titles from The Network’s James “Idol” Martinez and Alexander Belmonte III during the last PWR Live show. And with the momentum and teamwork TDTxECX showed everybody that night, they actually could have walked away with those belts around their waists had it not been for a disgusting match interference by Kh3ndrick and Mh4rckie, the KakaiBros. Surely, TDTxECX deserve a PWR Tag Team Title rematch. But now they have another thing to worry about: the KakaiBros have managed to likewise secure a contendership slot - giving the PWR Tag Team Championship Match at PWR Vendetta a 3-way stipulation. The KakaiBros took advantage of a distracted PWR General Manager Mr. Sy to sign a PWR Tag Team Title Match contract.

ALL OUT WAR CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: The Apocalypse (c) vs. Vlad Sinnsyk

The Hand of Judgment excludes no man or monster. And this time, Vlad Sinnsyk sets his crazy eyes on The Apocalypse and his shiny All Out War Championship. After the disbanding of his former tag team Deadly Sinns, Sinnsyk has been dominating in the singles circuit; crushing any man that crosses his path -- even laying a potentially career-ending injury on Jake De Leon. Proving to himself that no man can beat him, he sets his gaze on the monster Apocalypse.

On November 5th at PWR Vendetta, The Apocalypse is left with no choice but to defend his All Out War Championship and answer the call of judgment in the brute force that is Vlad Sinnsyk. And as always with All Out War rules: there will be no disqualifications, no count outs, and no holds barred.

INTERNATIONAL TAG TEAM SHOWCASE: The YOLO Twins vs. The Regime’s Tengu and Doctor Hertz

Last month, PWR received a video message from London Lucha League’s The Regime announcing that they are invading Philippine Wrestling Revolution on the November 5th show. The PWR Board had then decided to hold a qualifying match between The YOLO Twins and Punk Dolls, and whoever comes out on top gets to represent the Philippines in an International Tag Team Showcase against The Regime’s Tengu and Doctor Hertz. Long story short, The YOLO Twins took the W that night thanks to Crystal turning against her Punk Dolls beshies Martivo and Robynn. Yohann and Logan Ollores’ win nonetheless grants them the rare and honorable opportunity to show the entire world just how formidable PWR’s Tag Team division is… but that’s only if their big heads don’t get in the way.

BYE-BYE BESHIES: Martivo vs. Crystal

Crystal has returned to PWR after a long hiatus to show her support at ringside for her beshies the Punk Dolls. But the cheers for her return quickly turned into boos as soon as she displayed her true colors and turned against Martivo and Robynn, costing them the match against The YOLO Twins. Asked why she did what she did, Crystal was quick to answer with but a wink leaving everybody more confused with her actions. Crystal better have a good explanation for what she did. Perhaps we’ll all get answers from her at PWR Vendetta as she goes up against Martivo in a beshies-no-more grudge match. Robynn will be at ringside for Martivo.

GAMER VS. RAPPER: Vintendo vs. McKata

These two have been at it for months. Their latest outing, a rap battle, ended with McKata being force fed his own bars as Vintendo hits the fast-talker with a High Score chokeslam instead of an actual rap rebuttal. Clearly, Vintendo only did what he did because of his obvious inability to go toe-to-toe with McKata in his rap game. With that match ending in a no-contest, these two will face each other once more, this time in an actual wrestling match. With no end in sight for this rivalry, one of them must dominate in their next match-up at PWR Vendetta to end it once and for all.

“WANNA ONE, MAHAL NAMIN KAYO”

2017-10-18T16:09:00.000+08:00

“WANNA ONE, MAHAL NAMIN KAYO”
Words by: Maggi Pancho
Photos by: Seth Valenzuela for Manila Concert Scene

Despite the heavy rains last Friday, PH Wannables braved their way to Smart Araneta Coliseum to finally meet in person South Korea’s hottest boy group today, Wanna One.

Wanna One is the winning group that was formed from the second season of the popular Korean TV show, Produce 101. It is composed of eleven talented and good-looking boys namely Yoon Jisung (27), Ha Seongwoon (24), Hwang Minhyun (23), Ong Sungwoo (23), Kim Jaehwan (22), Kang Daniel (22), Park Jihoon (19), Park Woojin (19), Bae Jinyoung (18), Lee Daehwi (17) and Lai Guanlin (17).

Wanna One’s First Fan Meeting in Manila is the group’s 5th stop in the series of their fan meeting tour after Thailand, Singapore, Hongkong and Lai Guanlin’s hometown, Taiwan.
The fan meet started with the group’s explosive performances of Never (Wanna One version) and the title track from their first mini album, “1 x 1 = 1 To Be One”, Energetic.

The night’s emcee, Chee Tirona, better known as Macho Palito of iFM, then welcomed the boys to Manila. Wanna One first introduced themselves with their signature group greeting, “All I wanna do (is), Wanna One! Annyeong haseyo, Wanna One ibnida (Hello, we are Wanna One)!”

They surprised their fans when the group’s leader and oldest member, Jisung, greeted everyone in Filipino with “Kumusta kayo? Ako po ay si Yoon Jisung! (How are you? I am Yoon Jisung!)”. Ong Sungwoo continued saying, “Masaya po akong makilala kayo! (I’m glad to meet you!)” which drew cheers from the crowd.

Park Woojin’s line was “Na-miss nyo ba kami? Na-miss ko din kayo! (Did you miss us? I missed you, too!)”. Lai Guanlin had some difficulty pronouncing the words, “Masaya po ba kayo? (Are you happy?)” but the fans cheered him on just the same.

The way Park Jihoon said “Ako po si Park Jihoon! Hindi ako mapakali kasi excited ako. (I am Park Jihoon! I can’t control myself because I’m excited.)” was so natural that he seemed to speak the language fluently.

Daniel’s was “Ako po si Daniel. Salamat po. (I am Daniel. Thank you.)”, while Daehwi’s “Ang ganda ng ngiti niyo! (You’ve got beautiful smiles!)” made the crowd cheer all the more.

On the other hand, Jinyoung greeted Wannables in English with ‘Nice to meet you!’ after saying “Ako po si Bae Jinyoung. (I am Bae Jinyoung.)”and Sungwoon introduced himself in Filipino, so naturally as well with “Ako po si Ha Sungwoon. (I am Ha Sungwoon.)” Jaehwan and Minhyun said their greetings next and told PH Wannables “Ang gaganda niyo. (You look beautiful.)” and “Mahal ko kayong lahat! (I love you all!)”

The next part was called Wanna One Time, a segment to get to know the boys more. The first group that was called included Jisung, Minhyun and Jaehwan with the title “A rebellion of vocals has begun!”

The three are known to be the vocal line of the group but they were confident that they won’t also lose when it comes to dancing. With that, they danced perfectly to the steps of Energetic, but also continued showing off their freestyle dancing. Their dance included cute random movements with Jaehwan ending their part by doing his own version of the moonwalk.

Next had the title “An anime character disguised as Wanna One!” and called out Jihoon, Jinyoung, and Guanlin, three of Wanna One’s most handsome faces. They showed photos of them being compared to anime characters because they seem to have jumped out straight of an anime or a manhwa (comic).

To fully appreciate their beauty, they were asked to portray different looks that an anime character would do such as a melancholic glare, a mischievous look and a surprised look. The highlight, however, was when the three dressed up as princes from a romantic anime. Complete with capes and crowns, each one showed their charming look to their Wannable princesses: Guanlin with his lightstick, Jinyoung with his wand and Jihoon with his rose. Jihoon, dubbed by the emcee as “prince charming”, even knelt down on one knee while he offered up his rose to the fans.

Next, Sungwoo, Daniel, and Daehwi were called under the title “Unknowingly ‘rich’ from head to toe”. The title fits the three since they seem to express themselves through facial expressions and gestures, the best. To confirm this, they were asked to show how to express the following situations: when they get to eat delicious food, when Wannables are so lovely, and when an item mistakenly falls on their foot. They easily expressed themselves and Sungwoo even fell to the floor to express how “hurt” his foot was.

Moving on, another set of members were called out: this time, Sungwoon, Jihoon and Woojin. Even without the title, fans knew it will be about the Pink Sausages. The Pink Sausages group is an unofficial sub-group with the 2 Parks as members: Park Jihoon and Park Woojin (who incidentally are of the same age). They were dubbed as the Pink Sausages because of a clip from their TV show, Wanna One Go, wherein they were both wearing their pink-colored practice sweats and were shown having fun playing together and doing random dance moves.

Sungwoon has expressed before that he would like to join the group and the two asked him to become a trainee first before being accepted. With this, an actual audition was decided to be held during the fan meet, in front of PH Wannables!

The audition had two rounds: round 1 was to test Sungwoon’s stamina while round 2 was to test his dance skills. Round 1 was a hand-wrestling game between Sungwoon and Jihoon to see who will lose his balance first and fall down. As the two played, both were about to fall on their backs but Sungwoon grabbed on to Jihoon. Whether to stop Jihoon from falling or to stop himself from falling was debatable, but in the end Woojin declared Sungwoon disqualified because of what happened. However, Wannables continued to cheer on Sungwoon for round 2. In round 2, the Pink Sausages were to show their dancing skills and Sungwoon has to prove to at least have the same skill level as them. Jihoon and Woojin did popping dance consecutively that earned loud cheers from the fans; and when it was Sungwoon’s turn, he didn’t disappoint either. After further discussion, the Pink Sausages decided that for round 1, since Sungwoon was better than Jihoon, he failed. For round 2, Sungwoon had to be at least on the same skill level as them but he again did better than the two. The final verdict was, even if Sungwoon can’t join the Pink Sausages at that time, Woojin asked Wannables to continue supporting and cheering on Sungwoon. They ended their corner by doing the signature Pink Sausages dance. After Wanna One Time, they performed Wanna Be, their song that incorporates different characteristics the boys are known for, just like Sungwoo’s slating, Jisung’s clap, Jihoon’s ‘jeojang’, Guanlin’s basketball moves and Minhyun’s hip dance.

The performance was followed by a video showing the boys preparing for the fan meet and practicing their choreography. Each one also gave his message and expressed how excited they were to meet their fans from all over Asia!

Next was their performance of Naya Na (It’s me) - Pick Me, the theme of Produce 101 Season 2, the reality idol survival show that they took part in. Physical Education class came on next wherein they were called in pairs to do a mission. Should they clear the mission, autographed posters will be raffled off to lucky Wannables. The first pair called was Sungwoon and Minhyun who were given the mission to do couple jump rope for five times and do it in a cute and precious way. The pair was able to clear the mission and Minhyun was so happy that he lifted Sungwoon up the ground as he hugged him. Next pair was Jihoon and Guanlin who needed to pop 3 balloons in a manly manner. The two tried several ways of popping them including trying to squeeze it by hugging each other, popping it with bare hands, and stomping on them but nothing worked. In the end, they popped the balloons by pricking the balloons with their name tag’s pins. Second mission, cleared.

Jisung and Daehwi was the next pair chosen and were asked to clear the mission: shake off post-it notes in a sexy and classy way. The other members were the one to stick the post-its on the two and on each other as well (even if they’re not part of the mission). Daehwi was able to clear the mission first and helped Jisung take off all the post-its by blowing on them. In the end, the two sexily and successfully cleared their mission. OngNiel as they are fondly called (originated from their team name ‘OngNiel (pair) is Science’ from their TV show, Wanna One Go), Daniel and Sungwoo came on next. Their mission was to do a parody of a scene from the hit TV series, Dokkaebi (Goblin) wherein the characters of Gong Yoo and Lee Dongwook were coolly walking side by side, carrying spring onions. Sungwoo was actually given spring onions to carry while Daniel, a mini sword. OngNiel cleared the mission as they walked as sexy and cool as they can, as if they were walking down the runway. Voted as #2 and #1 visuals (handsome faces) of Produce 101 Season 2, Jinyoung and Jihoon were called on next. The mission: eat noodles as sweet and cute as they can. Jihoon ate some of the noodles and looked at the camera with a cute and innocent expression while Jinyoung finished the whole bowl and placed it on top of his head while making a V sign. Indeed, as the emcee said, the best way to eat noodles is to eat noodles with Wanna One!

The next mission was for Jaehwan and Woojin to play the toy hammer game, excitingly. For this game, they have to play paper-rock-scissors and whoever loses should place the pot on his head to avoid getting hit by the toy hammer. They played 3 rounds wherein Jaehwan seemed to have won.
Jaehwan suggested though if they can play again, this time in a faster way, to make it more exciting. It was indeed fun seeing them play very fast that Jaehwan put the toy hammer on his instead of the pot and also tried to hit Woojin with the pot instead of the toy hammer. The mission was cleared, but the best part was they made Wannables laugh heartily.

Guanlin and Sungwoon were paired off next and had to hulahoop 10 times, in a sexy way. Everybody cheered when the two, especially Sungwoon, did a great job showing how sexy hula-hooping should be.

The last mission was for all Wanna One members wherein they had to do group jump rope for 5 times. Jisung was worried they wouldn’t be able to do it so he asked if they can practice for one round. At the same time, number of jumps was reduced to just three times so they can clear the mission more easily. After fans cheered “Wanna One! Wanna One!”, the boys successfully accomplished the mission and did a group hug in celebration. While everyone was still happy with the boys’ successful group jump rope, a fan-made video was shown as a gift of PH Wannables to Wanna One. The video included clips from when they were still trainees during Produce 101 including their very first self-introduction, and their hard work during practices. Clips of crying Wanna One members during the time when they received messages of encouragement from their family members were also included of the video. The last part showed their debut concert, as well as them winning awards in various music shows for their song, Energetic.

The surprise from PH Wannables didn’t end there, as a personalized cake was rolled in towards the stage, eliciting excited reaction from the boys. A selfie photo was also taken by Wanna One with PH Wannables at the background to commemorate the happy moment.

Final messages from the boys came after, starting off with Guanlin. He said that with the fan-made video they just saw, it seemed like everything was just yesterday and with that thought in mind, he promised to continue being enthusiastic and continue working hard. Sungwoo and Jihoon both said they were happy to be in the fan meet, meeting lovely, beautiful fans, and that they love everyone. Jihoon also made a heart gesture for the fans. Daehwi said his message in English saying that he has heard a lot about Manila from his Filipino friends and thinks that the Philippines is a beautiful country. He also said PH Wannables are great and that they need not be sad since they will be back very soon. On the other hand, Daniel said ‘I love you’ while the fans cheered for him, and said he was also thankful to everyone as he made a heart gesture as well.

Jinyoung said that he was very happy and wished that that happiness will last forever and said ‘Thank you!’ in English. Woojin said that PH Wannables’ cheers was so amazing and that he is thankful and that he loves everyone.

Sungwoon, Jaehwan and Minhyun said that it was nice and fun meeting PH Wannables, while Jisung added that he was really happy to meet such nice people. Everyone assured PH Wannables that they would definitely be back very soon.

After the final messages, Wanna One performed three more of their songs, Hands On Me, their other title track, Burn It Up and Wanna One’s version of Always.

The fan meet was indeed a venue to show PH Wannables how much Wanna One appreciate having lovely fans like them. At the same time, PH Wannables were able to show Wanna One how much they are treasured and loved.

Wanna One, mahal namin kayo. PH Wannables shall be waiting at this same place for you, so do come back soon!
