This is just a tip for making the best use of your RAM.When you are not using a certain application,minimize the window of the application.This will use less memory.If you want to see for yourself then follow the following steps:
1.Open any application for e.g. MS Word.
2.Open the Task Manager.
3.Check the memory use of MS Word.
4.Minimize MS Word.
5.Check its memory use again.
6.There is a whooping difference.

So before clicking on any window on the taskbar minimize all the other applications.You can use the shortcut key Windows+D to minimize all the windows and then open the one that you need.

Use Your Task Manager to improve Performance

It happens so many times that you download some file and it makes your PC painfully slow. You delete that file but it does not help. The file might have some program which has been installed on your computer so deleting the file does not necessarily uninstall the program. So press Ctrl+Alt +Del (Undoubtedly the most used command in Windows).

1. Close all the programs before starting this process. Now open the Task Manager.

2. Just click the user entry to order the entries as per the user. Scan the entries with your username.

3. Check the application names. Ignore the important processes like explorer.exe, taskmgr.exe, antivirus executables, ctfmon.exe (If you’ve installed Office), rundll32.exe, etc. If you find anything other than this then type the process name in Google Search and you would get valuable information regarding the process or just type the process name here

4. If it lists your process as suspicious then end that process. Check your Systems Performance. Repeat this for all the suspicious processes on your Task manager. If you’ve zeroed in on some process the goto next step.

5. Search it in Windows (Use the Search Functionality).Find the location of that process and delete it. If it is starting again than Start your PC in Safe Mode and delete it.

This is a new virus which is spreading at alarming rate.It affected one of my friend's PC so I tried to figure out what it does.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the processes tab

Look for svchost.exe under the image name. There will be 5 or more than 5 svchost processes here.Look for the one which has your username in it.

Press DEL to kill these files. It will give you a warning, Press Yes

Repeat for more svchost.exe files with your username and repeat. Do not kill svchost.exe with system, local service or network service!

Now open My Computer

In the address bar, type C:\heap41a and press enter. It is a hidden folder so will not be visible.

Delete all the files.

Now go to Start --> Run--> type Regedit

Go to the menu Edit --> Find

Type "heap41a" here and press enter. You will get something like this "[winlogon] C:\heap41a\svchost.exe C:\heap(some number)\std.txt"

Select that and Press DEL. Click Yes on the warning that comes after this.

Now close the registry editor.

Be sure to delete the autorun.inf file and any folder whose name ends with .exe in the pen drive and never doubleclick open a pendrive.
This Virus is known as w32.USBWorm . Avast is able to detect and remove it. I hope the other antivirus software will also be able to remove it soon.I dont think any antivirus is able to remove this virus.I checked Norton and Kaspersky.Both failed.I hope that the companies react and get a solution very soon to this problem as Orkut has large number of users.

UMPC is the in thing now if you are tired of carrying your heavy laptop.It runs almost all the applications and it also runs Vista.Here are the factors to be considered:
The good: Appealing, polished design; multiple input options, including a QWERTY keyboard; lightweight; big, bright screen; inexpensive for a UMPC; relatively roomy hard drive.
The bad: Poor performance limits its versatility and appeal; battery life is still short of what's needed for a UMPC; no cellular broadband; the keyboard is an improvement over onscreen keys, but typing is still a challenge.
The bottom line: Despite making improvements to its UMPC, Samsung still has work to do. The underpowered Q1 Ultra is best used for on-the-go Web surfing, but there are better and cheaper devices for that specific task, including that new device from Apple you may have read about recently.

Tip 1: Modify tabbed browsing

Tabbed browsing is often touted as one of Firefox's killer features. Indeed, it's very useful, but the default preferences aren't perfect for everyone. That's OK, because Firefox offers plenty of preferences for customising your tabbed-browsing experience. If you can't find what you want in the preferences, you can go a step further by installing one of the many Firefox extensions that can make minor alterations to your tabs. Still not satisfied? The most aggressive of all the tab-related extensions, discussed at the end of this hack, completely replaces Firefox's tabs with its own.

Tabbed-browsing preferences
Firefox's preferences allow you to control how tabs respond to certain types of events. Some of the preferences are easily set in the Preferences window, while others require you to use the special About:config page in the browser. To find tabbed-browsing preferences in About:config, type tabs in the Search box at the top of the list.

Links from other applications
When a link is sent from another application, such as when you click a URL in an e-mail, what should the browser do? There are three options: open the page in a new window, open the page in a new tab in the front window, or replace the current page in the front window.

The options for this behaviour are shown at the top of the Tabbed Browsing panel in the Preferences window. If you ever feel the need to set this preference via About:config, look for browser.link.open_external. Setting this preference to 1 opens the link in the current tab and window, 2 opens it in a new window, and 3 opens it in a new tab in the front window.

Loading tabs in the foreground or background
There are three preferences that control whether new tabs load in front of the current tab or behind it. These preferences correspond to the three types of events that can open a new tab. Two can be set in the Preferences window (checked or true means "load in foreground"; unchecked or false means "load in background"), while the third requires the About:config page, described earlier in this hack:

Control-clicking (or Command-clicking) a link in the browser to open a new tab
Set this in the Preferences window with the check box labelled "Select new tabs opened from links" or in About:config by changing browser.tabs.loadInBackground.

Opening a tab from a bookmark or the browser history panel
In the Preferences window, this event is called "Select new tabs opened from bookmarks or history." In About:config, it's browser.tabs.opentabfor.bookmarks.

Opening a tab from a link sent by another application
There is no check box in the Preferences window for this setting. In About:config, this preference is browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground.

Getting rid of tabs when there's only one
This preference hides the tab bar at the top of the set of tabs when only one tab exists:

Single Window mode
Do you hate it when links on Web pages open new windows (because they set a target attribute on the link)? You can force Firefox to open those links in a new tab instead of a new window. This is called Single Window mode. It doesn't prevent all new windows, but it catches most of them. The radio buttons for setting this preference are in the Preferences window, but only if Firefox knows you want to see them. Go to About:config and set browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs to true.

Extensions that alter tabbed browsing
There are a number of Firefox extensions that interact with tabbed browsing. Two are designed to make it easier to set the preferences exactly as you like, and one adds some useful new features via the creative use of tabs and keystrokes. New extensions are being written all the time, so check the Mozilla Updates Web site for the latest additions.

Tabbrowser Preferences
The Tabbrowser Preferences (TBP) extension, by Bradley Chapman, organises all of the preferences related to tabbed browsing into a single pane in the Preferences window. You can set all of the same preferences via the special About:config page, but by using TBP, you don't have to remember what the different preference names mean or what value to set in order to get the behaviour you want.

Quick Tab Pref Toggle
The Quick Tab Pref Toggle (QTPT) extension, by Jed Brown, allows you to maintain two sets of tabbed-browsing preferences. The idea is that you'll usually want to divert all new windows into new tabs, but occasionally you'll work with a page that really should pop up a separate window. This extension lets you put a small button (a toggle) in the toolbar to flip back and forth between two sets of preferences with a single click.

Magpie
Magpie, by lead Firefox developer Ben Goodger, is not a tabbed-browsing extension per se, but it has a related feature that demonstrates a completely different use for tabs. Magpie can save all of the tabs to the right of the one you're currently viewing to files on disk. (It's intended for media files, such as pictures.) For example, if you open a photo album Web page that contains thumbnails of a dozen pictures, you could Control-click (Command-click) each of them to open the full-size photos in separate tabs. Then, a single use of Magpie's Ctrl+Shift+S would save all of those images to disk in a single folder and close the tabs. This is much faster than saving each image to disk one at a time.

Tabbrowser Extension: a complete tabbing overhaul
The Tabbrowser Extension (TBE), by Shimoda "Piro" Hiroshi, is a power user's tool. It's the superultradeluxe tabbing system, with every feature you can imagine and a few you probably can't. TBE completely replaces the built-in browser tabs with TBE's own. Review the install notes and latest status, as TBE is still being polished and debugged as this goes to print.

TBE's tabs look just like the regular tabs in Firefox (by default, anyway) but offer lots of features you simply can't get any other way. In fact, TBE is so flexible that the Preferences window for tweaking its behaviour has almost as many options as Firefox's own Preferences window! TBE allows you to do the following things:

Rearrange tabs by dragging them to the left or right
Duplicate tabs in the same window or into a new window
Colour your tabs
Display tabs on any side of the browser window (not just the top)
Automatically load the same group of tabs you were using when you last quit Firefox
Undo a closed tab (reopen it to the same page)
Lock a tab so that all links within it automatically open in a new tab
Block the page in a specific tab from being listed in the Referer: header when you click a link
Automatically reload a tab every n seconds, minutes, or days
Add a Close button to every tab

Tip 2: Use keyboard shortcuts

This hack shows you which keyboard moves come standard with Firefox. There are many extensions that modify the available set of keystrokes and key chords.

Many Firefox keyboard combinations are the same as those of Internet Explorer. In particular, menu navigation uses the same combinations of arrow keys and Alt as most Windows applications, and navigation within text-editing fields supports the same keystrokes as most text editors (Ctrl+Left Arrow to move one word left, for example). Scrolling keys such as Page Up and Page Down work as you'd expect, too. The table below shows the major keys used by both browsers. (On the Macintosh, substitute Command for Ctrl and Option for Alt.)

Tip 3: Make Firefox go fast

Here are a few steps you can perform to speed up Firefox. Back to performance basics first, though: the user is the slowest thing attached to the computer. Better use of Firefox's features will speed up the user, so be sure to read the rest of the hacks in this chapter.

Fix dial-up modem bottlenecks
Any dial-up modem you use is the slowest network hardware you have, so tune it wisely.

If you're using Windows, your modem driver and chipset should support the latest compression standards now available. Update the modem and the modem's Windows driver directly from the chipset manufacturer. Look on the modem card to see who made the chips; don't bother with who made the card. If you buy a cutoff switch that lets you isolate your answering machine, fax, and telephone gear while you're on the Internet, you won't strain the line voltage as much, and you'll have less noise causing error-correction delays.

If your connection is still slow, call your telephone provider and complain that their voltages and noise filters are all wrong; they can test and adjust from their end. Call Microsoft and complain that Windows hasn't tuned your PPP connection correctly. Call your ISP and complain that their modem bank isn't negotiating the best possible speed. None of that will do you much good, but it's nice to vent sometimes.

Move to broadband
If you're stuck on dial-up, the biggest performance plus you can get from Firefox without using caching is to turn images off. That's in the Options dialog box under Web Features. Turning off images might reduce your Web experience to an unacceptable low, so it's a dramatic step. You can also ensure that Web pages are checked for updates only once per browsing session, instead of every time you look at them. In About:config, find:

browser.cache.check_doc_frequency /* set it to 0, normally 3 */

This preference change shouldn't affect you much if you're just surfing idly. If you spend a lot of time with online message boards or similarly intensive Web-based applications, it might cause confusion, though, so avoid it in that case. One possible compromise is to create a separate "I'm not working" profile and turn the preference on in that profile. Use that profile for recreation only.

The good: The LG enV offers an impressive feature set, an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard, and decent call quality.

The bad: The enV's streaming video quality could be better, and the boxy design has its quirks. Also, its external display is small and not very useful.

The bottom line: The design still isn't perfect, but the LG enV is a high-quality messaging and multimedia cell phone.

Overclock Your nVidia Adapter (At your own risk)

Specifically designed for video adapters that use the nVidia chipset, nVidia's Detonator driver or the RivaTuner utility give you control over your video clock speeds.
The first thing you need to make your nVidia chipset overclockable is a small bit of Windows Registry hacking, which is made simple by downloading a file named geforce_overclock.reg within geforce_overclock.zip (link and content subject to change) from http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/12/1/12-1-31.shtml. To merge the Registry entries in this file into the Registry:
Download and unzip geforce_overclock.zip.
Locate and double-click the reg file within the zip file to merge it into the Registry.
Click OK and reboot. First part accomplished.

If you want to manually apply this Registry hack (or if you can't find the download), launch regedit.exe (click StartRun and then type regedit and press Enter), navigate to (or create) the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak, and add a DWORD value named CoolBits and set its value to 3.

With the geforce_overclock Registry modification applied, if you already have the nVidia Detonator driver and utility software, you're all set to begin the overclocking by following these steps:
Right-click the desktop and select Properties.
In the display properties dialog, select the Settings tab
Select the Advanced button.
Select the tab with the name of your card, and you will be taken to a dialog with an option named Clock Frequencies.
You can now control the frequency of the nVidia's card memory and core speed independently.

nVidia and other video card manufacturers warn that overclocking your video card's CPU or memory can damage it. While no one is specific about the damage overclocking causes, you can expect excessive heat build within the chips that can cause catastrophic failure of the components.
If you overclock your video card, you should invest in and apply a larger heat sink to the video CPU and provide additional cooling across the entire card to help maintain lower overall temperatures and reliability.
If your nVidia Riva-based card doesn't use the Detonator driver, set you can still ramp up your adapter with the RivaTuner utility , from http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/. RivaTuner is a simple but effective way to speed up your video.
While most of the current tweaks, Detonator drivers, and overclocking utilities indicate they are for nVidia's GeForce and Quadro products, as you see here, they work fine on the Riva and Riva TNT products dating back to 1998 also, giving new life to an older but still capable video card.

Overclocking the CPU or "core" speed of your video card yields overall performance and frame-rate improvements proportionate to how much you increase the video card CPU speed—a 10% increase in CPU clock yields an 8-12% performance increase. In my test case, a Riva TNT-based video card running a default 90 MHz displayed an average of 12-13 frames per second (fps) before running the core clock up to 100 MHz. As mentioned earlier in this chapter, frames per second is but one measure of performance. Fps is a great benchmark for full-motion video and gaming action, but the overall quality of textures can still suffer at high frame rates, so your card needs to have high performance in rendering texture elements and smooth texture transitions. In addition, some video presentations are set at a specific frame rate, and no amount of overclocking will improve them. I experimented with an old Diamond Viper 770 card using a Riva TNT chipset and found the frame rate already maxed out at normal speed, and it did not change with higher clock speeds, but other performance measurements and the appearance of benchmarking video tests with 3DMark2001 showed calculated improvements of 8-10% and significant appearance-by-eye improvement after increasing the clock rate by 30%.

Measuring 106х54х15 mm, the smartphone can claim the title of a “slim” handset, in the manner of the latest tendencies. Many complain about the phone being too wide, but it’s not quite right. As a matter of fact, it’s wider than all other handsets, which set the pace in this field, by a centimeter or so. This difference is needed only in order to make sure that the phone will exactly fit your palm and rest against it – otherwise you won’t be able to deal with JogDial properly and won’t fully experience all advantages of managing this device single handedly. Pay attention to the fact that almost all models, equipped with a scroll wheel, have always been wide – this regards the first models by Sony as well (Z7’s width is 50 mm). Sufficient width is essential for a device of this kind, so it will perfectly fit your hand – actually, Sony Ericsson W950i width could have been shortened to the measurements of a standard bar phone: the space, left inside the handset and some ways for improvement modules arrangement provide this possibility. As a comparison one can remember that the width of devices representing P line-up exceeds 50 mm. The handset’s weight is 112 grams – not so much for a product of this class.

The stylus, included in the kit, is quite handy; however this only factor one can get upset with is orange color, applied to some parts of this item. Fastening of the stylus is well-made – it’s firmly fixed in the slot

The right side of the handset holds the music key, which can be set up for bringing up either the radio or the media player, similarly to the other products of Walkman line-up. Here one will discover the double-key for adjusting volume, although it’s not used frequently, since the device features JogDial, where you can easily change volume when working in any mode. At the same time this key can be of some use, when it comes to rewinding– in fact there is no other way of performing this function in this phone. By the way, this button is also used for switching between radio stations.
At bottom there is a Fast Port interface connector, therefore the model supports all available accessories. The microphone is also located here. Finally, one will find the holes for applying a strap at this end of the shell.

Music capabilities. Let us start describing the handset’s functionality with this very aspect, as it’s the main reason why the device materialized. Sony Ericsson W950i is the first device equipped with 4 Gb of flash memory, and moreover, the first smartphone coming from Walkman line-up. Starting from these peculiarities we may consider it as the top model of Walkman product line.
For a start you need to upload your own music collection to the device, in order to perform this, use Disc2Phone application – it copies all files to the folder, containing music. Besides, this program may be applied to moving contents of your CDs, since all files stored on compact-disks are automatically converted into MP3. In case you want to set up the music collection on your own, you will just require copying files to any folder, or creating a new one. Nesting level doesn’t affect a thing here, as the device check the memory without your help. Having finished copying, you will need to update the music library – this is performed via a special function – the handset locates all files and folders, and then gets the necessary data from ID3-tags. Supported audio formats - MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC+, WAV and m4a. There are no limitations on bit rates; you can also upload files with VBR.
In the music library, all saved tracks are classified by the following characteristics:
Artists – the application displays general list of artists in alphabetical order, one can conduct a fast search here;
Albums – sorting by albums’ titles, search function is available as well;
Tracks –general list of all tracks, sorting is conducted by tracks’ titles or ID3 tags;
Genre – sorting, which uses various music styles, like Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues as criteria.
Mood – there are five types of mood available (None, Happy, Sad, Relaxed, Energetic). This an additional parameter that can be manually set by user, so the sorting may be applied to both the general list or particular mood lists;
My playlists – these are playlists, made up by user, that can be created both on the device and on PC, while viewing contents of the flash memory in USB Mass Storage mode; the handset also locates then when updates the library;
Auto playlists – this option is familiar to many Windows Media Player users; here you can set certain criteria, which will be used for dynamic creation of playlists. E.g. you can choose genre, then state personal rating of tracks value (not less than 5 start for example), and enter a key word – a playlist, featuring the listed parameters will be instantly created.
As you seen, the media player’s capabilities are maximally closed to the players, intended for desktops. However there is an additional option here - viewing Albums, which can be browsed in the appearance of: only titles; titles with pictures (vertical list), pictures only (3x3 grid). Switching between the appearances is performed in one touch.

PDF:

The second application is going by the name of PDF+, and as its title implies, it servers as a PDF files reader. One can view these documents both in standard and landscape modes. Actually, this applications has been available for various versions of OS, including platform 60, for several year already. Nokia installed this program on a number of its devices (only a trial version), on the contrary, Sony Ericsson P990i kit features a major version of the application. On the whole PDF+ works pretty fast, and successfully deals with files both in English and documents, written in various character sets (though as applied to pdf, the word of “character set” sounds foolish). Separately, this applications costs around 25 USD.

QuickOffice :

One more third-party application, which was selected by UIQ as a standard for the third edition and comes along with the kit (there is a version for the previous editions if UIQ available, its price is 50 USD). The program itself is an editor, which recognizes and capable of opening and editing files of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

RSS Feeds:

It’s a RSS reader, which successfully fulfils its main function. You may add any channels on your own, and also update all feeds in one touch. Everything is plain and clear here – those, who haven’t used this technology before, will become fond of it with the help of this handset.

One of the issues that has arisen serious debates, is absence of not only a frontal camera, but of the main one too. I assure you that lack of camera doesn’t affects the handset’s capability of accepting video calls, since you can set any picture or video clip, which will be shown to your interlocutor. But the reason why the device isn’t armed with a camera may cause idle gossips.
Though the explanation is as always simple – the company isn’t aiming at creating competition among its own line-ups. Since Sony Ericsson P990i is equipped with a camera, has WiFi onboard and slightly differs in price, taking into account difference in measurements as well, W950i would be an obvious favorite, if it had a camera. And the second reason lies in the fact that in the near future a product with an integrated camera, based on M600/W950i may appear on the market, because there is already a slot for a camera module in the handset’s shell.
On the other hand, absence of camera doesn’t gives up this device for lost, but on the contrary targets it at a certain niche. Remember, how many people a while ago complained about presence of camera, which they have to pay for, but don’t use? Specially for these consumers, the manufactures have started producing variations of models with and without camera modules. And here we face the same strategy – the handset is positioned as a solution for those, who are fond of listening to music and in need of high functionality of the device, but don’t take up photography. It is not a big share of the market; actually this is stressed by the handset’s price. All students and schoolboys, who are whining that they badly need a camera in this device are not the target audience. It may sound strange, but this very model is aimed at people, who used Walkman brand 15-20 years ago, in other words at the people of middle age. And even though the manufacturer doesn’t clearly imply it, the model isn’t made for the youth audience, to tell the truth this isn’t a common way of positioning Walkman series. From this it follows that Sony Ericsson W950i doesn’t meet the title of “all-in-one” device – on the whole, it’s just another smartphone, but without a camera.
Evidently, that the model won’t become as popular as Sony Ericsson P990i (in terms of these particular segments, not the entire market), but it will reach a fair level of sales and increase offer due to being more highly tailored. The concept of providing big built-in storage makes this direction very promising, as the company can introduce models equipped with 6,8 and 10 Gb flash memory in a short space of time if required. Development of models, powered by hard drives is currently underway, but the market is more likely to get these models in next 18-20 months at best, because they are not mass products, and even more still have some considerable flaws, high development cost and following service.

Motorola ROKR E6 is the new phone based on linux from Motorola's den with Real Player support(previous ROKR's had iTunes support)
Good looks aside, this candy bar replaces iTunes in previous ROKRs for a RealPlayer which supports MP3, MPEG-4, AAC+, WAV, RealAudio, WMA and midi files and supports Bluetooth stereo audio, too. Alternatively, a 3.5mm jack will do the job. Built-in FM radio is a plus for those who like to listen to DJs yakking away on a long trip.
The 1,000mAh battery keeps the E6 humming for 7 hours of talktime and 235 hours on standby. Music goodies aside, there's also a 2-megapixel camera (doubles as a Webcam) and you can preview your snaps on the phone's 2.4-inch, 260k-pixel touchscreen color panel.
Moto's E6 is not all about fun, though. A business card reader, barcode scanner and handwriting recognition make life easier, with also support for Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF documents for office executives. Ironically, the candy bar is still on WAP2.0 technology. Where's our Wi-Fi?
Most importantly, the handset reads Secure Digital cards (hooray!) instead of the smaller media, and all of the above come in a sleek profile of only 14.5mm. All said and done, the ROKR E6 is currently slated for the Mainland only, but if you wish hard enough, who knows, Santa might make a stopover in this part of Asia eventually.
