Review

Given the price I paid for this face mask it wasn't bad. That said, it wasn't anywhere near as good as some of the other face masks I've tested recently. You can find out more about those in my post The Ultimate Guide to Sheet Masking: My Top Picks for Glowing Skin.

The Hydrating Anti-Age Face Mask is the first one from the Forever You collection that I've tried. Like most sheet face masks, it was easy to use. Whilst it did give a moisture boost to my skin the effects didn't last long. As it was discounted so cheap I'm still glad I bought it and gave it a try but I was expecting something more, especially as it's for 50+ age range and so for older, tired skin (I'm 45).

I will, of course, be trying the other masks I got in the range to see if they work any better. For now, though, I'm not likely to buy this one again, especially if I'd need to pay full price for it.

For those of us whose careers are built in the digital space, "Spring Wellness" often feels like another item on an exhausting to-do list. We’re told to "unplug," yet our livelihood depends on being plugged in. As a professional blogger living on the outskirts of Rome, I’ve had to learn that vitality isn't about a three-day juice cleanse. It's about frequency management.

In 2026, we’ve moved past the era of "hustle health." We are now in the age of Neurowellness: the practice of regulating our nervous systems to sustain the high-level cognitive output that professional content creation requires.

When my energy dips, I don't look for a new app; I head to the hills of Poli or the quiet parks near my apartment. Here is my unique, low-impact strategy for a spring reset that actually fuels your career.

1. Soft Fascination: The Antidote to "Blogger Burnout"

One of the biggest energy leaks for digital professionals is Directed Attention Fatigue. We spend all day making micro-decisions: SEO keywords, image alt-text, and engagement metrics. This drains the prefrontal cortex.

To fix this, I use Soft Fascination during my daily dog walks in the local parks.

The Technique: Instead of an audiobook or a "productive" podcast, I walk in silence. I let my eyes drift over the movement of the trees or the play of light on the grass.
The Science: This allows your brain’s "default mode network" (DMN) to kick in. This is where your most creative blog post ideas are born...not while you're staring at a blank Google Doc, but while your mind is allowed to wander without an agenda. This is definitely true for me personally. I get most of my blog post ideas whilst walking my dog. I’ve written before about the many benefits of walking daily, but in spring, it becomes less about the steps and more about the mental clarity.

2. The Poli Protocol: Tech Break

Most days, I swap the outskirts for our country house near Poli. Surrounded by olive trees and the ancient geometry of the hills, it's the perfect place for a "Tech Break".

Unlike the "digital detoxes" people talk about in the city, this isn't about setting a timer or using an app to lock my phone. It’s a total shift. When I’m at the house, the phone stays in the car or the bag—completely out of sight and out of mind.

The Ritual: I spend time "Horizon Gazing" from my land. Looking at distant objects relaxes the ciliary muscles in the eyes, which are chronically tightened by screen work. It’s a physical reset for your vision and a mental reset for your perspective. Without the pings of notifications, your brain finally stops "scanning" for stress and starts observing the landscape. Plus I find it incredibly beautiful to look at.

3. Feeding the "Second Brain" (Gentle Spring Nutrition)

While many Roman spring guides suggest heavy bitters like artichokes or chicory, those of us with sensitive systems need a gentler approach to gut-brain health.

The Gentle Reset: I focus on Asparagus and Aromatic Herbs (like fennel, mint, and basil). Asparagus is a wonderful spring prebiotic that is generally easier on the stomach, while fresh mint and fennel help soothe the digestive tract—essential for maintaining focus during a long blogging stint.
The Poli Gold: Olive oil is the ultimate anti-inflammatory (hopefully our olive trees will start producing enough soon so we can make our own). As much as I want to workout, it's not always easy to do so.

The Low-Impact Way: I use the olive trees as my "studio." Simple, slow movements like reaching for branches or gentle spinal twists while looking out over the hills or walking on the uneven ground near the olive trees really wakes up my sense of balance in a way that flat pavements never do.
Why it works: It tells your nervous system that you are safe and in a natural environment. By moving in a tech-free zone, you aren't performing for a fitness tracker; you're simply reconnecting with your body.

5. Protecting the Creative "Quiet Room"

As a professional blogger, your home office is your cockpit. But if it’s cluttered with tech, it’s a source of low-level stress.

Spring Declutter: This isn't about cleaning dust; it’s about Signal Hygiene. I’ve started removing all non-essential tech from my immediate line of sight.
The "Poli Mindset" at Home: I try to bring a piece of that Poli silence back to the apartment. Even if it's just an hour of work with the Wi-Fi toggled off, creating that "analog" bubble is the only way to produce deep, meaningful content in an AI-saturated world.

This spring, I’m prioritising the "Green Frequency" of Poli and the simple joy of a park walk with the dog. I’m finding that by doing a little less "busy work" and leaning into that total disconnection, my creativity—and my blog—actually grows faster.

What to Stop Doing for Better Mental Health

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I live with several chronic digestive conditions. I’ll be honest with you: being ill all the time is exhausting, and it can take a massive toll on my mental health. There are days when the physical pain leads straight into a mental rut, and I find myself staring at a "wellness" to-do list that feels like a mountain I just can’t climb.

Over the years, I’ve had to learn the hard way that you can’t "hustle" your way out of a flare-up. I used to feel so guilty for not being productive, but I’ve discovered that the best way to drag myself out of a rut isn't by doing more—it’s by doing less. Sometimes, the most "productive" thing I can do for my sanity is to simply accept that my battery is at 5%, give myself permission to rest, and stop the habits that are making a difficult day even harder. I've even started keeping a list of the best quotes about rest and recovery to remind myself that slowing down is a necessity, not a luxury.

In 2026, we are bombarded with influencers telling us to add more to our plates to be happy. But when you’re managing your health, subtraction is often the better strategy. Let's talk about the things we can stop doing today to actually protect our peace of mind.

Doing "Less" Might Be the Best Thing for Your Brain

When you start looking at ways to improve your mental health and your life, you’ll find that everyone is trying to sell you some kind of crazy idea. You've got wellness influencers telling you to wake up at four in the morning to stare at the sunrise from a mountain top, take ice baths or take up pilates lessons that cost a small fortune. Others might claim you need to eat specific rare types of foods or do things in your day in a certain order to be successful. We focus so much on adding habits to our lives to feel better, but actually a better place to start would be removing the habits that make us miserable in the first place. You can't out-meditate a terrible lifestyle! Here are some things you might be doing, that you could stop for better mental health.

Stop Optimizing Your Downtime

Stop trying to make your relaxation productive, you really don't need to listen to a dense economics podcast at two times speed while you take a walk around the neighborhood just to feel like you aren't wasting precious moments of your day. Sometimes a walk is just a walk. Its not true for everyone of course but many of us have completely ruined our hobbies by trying to turn them into side hustles or measurable achievements. If you like playing video games after work just play the game instead of tracking your completion statistics on a spreadsheet like a maniac. Give yourself permission to be entirely useless for an hour! It doesn't mean throw caution to the wind and just indulge in any vice you want, things like smoking and drinking too much are dangerous and another thing to stop (places like Legacy Healing Center can help with this). But relaxing and kicking back with a book, game or some tv isn't just time wasted when you’re exhausted.

Stop Pathologizing Regular Sadness

There’s a lot of open conversation out there when it comes to mental health these days, and that’s good. It means the stigma is being broken and people feel safe to talk about how they feel, their conditions and what they can do to help. But the downside is that when there’s so much talk about mental illness, it can be easy to assume you have one. But feeling sad or a bit down doesn't mean you have clinical depression, just like being tidy or ‘particular’ about the way you like things organised doesn't mean you have OCD. Don’t self diagnose, talk to a doctor if you genuinely think you have something more going on. Otherwise, its important to remember that ups and downs are just part of the experience we have as humans. We’re emotional creatures and life can be hard sometimes, it might just be a case of riding the wave and knowing you’ll feel better again soon.

Stop Shower Arguing

We all do it, stand under the hot water having intense imaginary arguments about something someone said three days ago to upset you. It can feel satisfying coming up with the perfect comeback that you wish you’d said in the moment but your brain doesn't know the difference between a real confrontation and the one you just invented. They're functionally the same to your nervous system so you're flooding your system with stress hormones over a totally fictional scenario.

If you’re planning a trip to the Eternal City this year, there’s one experience that usually tops everyone’s bucket list: seeing the Pope. Whether you’re religious or just a fan of history and grand traditions, there is something undeniably electric about being in St. Peter’s Square when the atmosphere is buzzing.

I get asked about this a lot, and while it might seem like you need a secret handshake or a direct line to the Vatican, it’s actually quite straightforward once you know the ropes. Here’s my guide on how to see Pope Leo XIV in Rome during 2026.

1. The Wednesday General Audience

2026 is a busy year at the Vatican. We’ve just come off the back of the Jubilee, and the schedule is packed. If you're visiting during Easter or Christmas, the Pope will preside over major liturgical celebrations.

2. The 3-Minute Speed Check

We live in a fast-paced world. If your site takes ages to load, people won't wait—especially if they’re browsing on their phones while on the go.

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the 7 Days Happy Sea Calf Face Mask, which was a lovely gift from my son. It certainly provided a fair bit of entertainment for the whole family; once I applied it, we quickly realised it wasn't just a standard sheet mask—it’s a full animal-print mask!

This "Happy Sea Calf" (which is essentially a cute little seal) is part of a wider collection from 7 Days. The range features an entire zoo of different animals, with each character targeting a specific skincare concern.

Performance and Results This particular mask is designed for deep hydration, promising a moisture boost for tired or dry skin. I am happy to report that it absolutely delivered on its claims. After leaving it on for the recommended time, my skin felt notably smoother, plumped, and thoroughly hydrated. It didn’t leave any sticky residue and the serum absorbed beautifully.

The Verdict If you are looking for an affordable, effective sheet mask to add a touch of "pamper time" to your evening, this is a fantastic option. It strikes a great balance between being effective and just plain fun. I’m certainly intrigued by the rest of the series now and would be very interested to see if the other animals in the collection perform just as well.

It's a brilliant little find—perfect for a bit of self-care or even as a quirky stocking filler for someone who doesn't take their beauty routine too seriously!

A Four-Star Page-Turner: I picked this up for my "Clock Reading Challenge" and ended up really getting into it. It starts with a slow burn but truly takes off—I just had to know what happened!
The Weight of ESP: Our protagonist, Rachel, has premonitions triggered by touch or eye contact. They are rarely happy, leading her to live a detached life filled with guilt—especially after she "sees" her boyfriend’s illness before he passes away.
A New Kind of Vision: The plot thickens when Rachel has a dark premonition about a restaurant worker intending to do harm. When a woman goes missing shortly after, Rachel has to decide if she can finally use her powers to help instead of just watching tragedy unfold.
Realistic Relationships: I loved the portrayal of her father and a local policeman. Unlike many "superhero" stories, this book explores the genuine burden and repercussions that having a "gifted" family member places on loved ones.
Search and Rescue Element: For the animal lovers out there, Rachel has a dog named Ruby who is a search and rescue dog. Following the scent-tracking and rescue elements was a really interesting addition to the story.
Dual Perspectives & Dark Twists: The story shifts between Rachel and a very disturbed character named Patrick, a parolee struggling with his own dark impulses. It balances these perspectives well and leads to some fantastic twists at the end that I won't spoil!

Rachel held Kari’s gaze a few seconds too long. That was her first mistake. She should have looked away. Like a jolt of electricity, a premonition zaps Rachel right in the solar plexus, and she knows something horrible is going to happen to her new boss. She has no idea what tragedy will strike Kari, only that it will not be good.

Committed to telling Glen next week about her premonitions, Rachel celebrates by eating dinner on the couch while streaming a movie. Woo-hoo! Also, she eats her Black Bird Café dinner straight out of the to-go containers; washing dishes is not celebrating.

Rachel suggests five thirty, after she gets off work, and rattles off the address for her dad’s house. More spacious and, at least, there will be one other person to share the normal contacts. Her dad is an expert on diversionary handshakes and greetings on Rachel’s behalf.

“Deputies don’t exactly have thriving social lives. Except with other deputies. Cops put people on edge.” So do people with ESP.

“Detective Hagen will be nearby,” she says, stretching the truth because she doesn’t know, for sure, if or when he will be nearby. “Besides,” Rachel pauses for a few seconds, “what choice do I have? If Alicia Meyers is never found, or is found dead, that will traumatize me. Forever.”

“I’m going to the restroom,” Rachel says, tipping her head in that direction. Her dad starts rubbing his temples as if he has a splitting headache. I am his splitting headache, Rachel thinks. “Well … you’re too old for me to go with you,” he says. “Please—be careful.”

Ruby’s tail eagerly thwops against the leg of Rachel’s chair. It isn’t Rachel’s imagination; Ruby knows what “work” is, and she loves it. Rachel can relate; work is her great distractor.

I have a rule or a code: no matter how annoying the kid is or how stupid a woman has been in her choice of husband or profession, I won’t kill them, no matter how good the money is. How to Write "Easy-to-Scan" Blog Posts

Have you ever clicked on a blog post that looked interesting, only to be met with a massive, never-ending wall of text? If you’re like most of us, you probably took one look, sighed, and hit the "back" button.

I’m a huge believer that learning should be simple. As bloggers, our job isn't just to share great information; it's to make that information as easy to digest as possible.

If you want your readers to actually stay on your page (and come back for more), you need to make your posts "scannable." Here are three intentionally simple ways to do exactly that.

1. Use Clear Headings (Your Signposts)

Think of headings as the GPS for your blog post. They tell the reader exactly what is coming up next.

Why they work: Many readers will scroll through your post first to see if it answers their specific question. If they see a heading that says "3 Ways to Improve Your Fitness," they know exactly where to stop.

Tip: Use the H2 or H3 settings in your blog editor. It’s better for the reader’s eyes and brilliant for your SEO!

2. Embrace the Bullet Point

If you have a list of items, ideas, or tips, don't bury them in a long sentence separated by commas. Set them free!

Bullet points break up the visual weight of a page.
They make "dry" information feel much more manageable.
They allow the reader to "cherry-pick" the bits that are most relevant to them.

3. Add a "Too Long; Didn't Read" Summary

We’re all busy. Sometimes, your reader just wants the "cliff notes" version of your advice.

The Bottom Line: Adding a short summary or a "Key Takeaways" box at the end of your post is a lovely way to be helpful.

Why it’s a winner: It reinforces what they’ve just learned and leaves them feeling like they’ve actually gained something useful from your site.

A Quick "Scannability" Checklist

Before you hit publish on your next post, give it the "The Three-Second Test":

1. Scroll through it quickly. Can you tell what the post is about without reading a single full sentence?

2. Check your paragraphs. Are they short? (Aim for 2-3 sentences max).

3. Look for "white space." Does the page feel "airy" and easy on the eyes?

About the author, J.M. Simpson

J.M. Simpson was born in Essex, but was raised primarily in the West Country, never far from a rugged coastline, a sandy beach, or harbour. With a degree and PhD, much of Jo’s working career has been spent undertaking research in a variety of subjects; most notably in construction and development where her expertise lies.

Staying in the Welsh town of Tenby some years ago and watching the local lifeboat launch one stormy winter night, gave Jo the beginnings of an idea for a book. She was fascinated with the idea of the crew risking everything they know and love to plunge into a stormy sea to rescue a stranger. She wondered who these people were and what their lives were like. And so, the Castleby series was born.
