Civils Preliminary Exam on June 12th, 2011

The Civil Services examinations next year will be delayed by a month. The preliminary test will be held on June 12 and the Mains on October 29, 2011 as per the schedule announced.

The notification for the 2011 exam will be released on February 19, 2011. Generally the notification comes out every December for the exam to be held the following year. The delay of two months in the issue of notification is apparently due to the changes brought in the pattern and the syllabus from the next year.

ELIGIBILITY :

Educational Qualification : Candidate should have passed Intermediate/10+2 with pass marks in Mathematics and Physics with a minimum of 50% marks in overall aggregate. Medical Standards :
(a) Height: Minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cm.
(b) Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
(c) Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
(d) Vision: Minimum Visual Standard: Unaided 6/36 and correctable to at least 6/9 for each eye with spectacles, Dioptectric power not exceeding + 3.5 including astigmatism. Full field of vision and Defective safe colour vision CP-II/III.
(e) Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable.
(f) Hearing: Candidates should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(g) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
(h) Health: Candidates should be free from medical or surgical deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments. Candidates must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.

It will help familiarise candidates with the navigation and functionality of the CAT. There will be a tutorial followed by 12 sample questions in the practice test, and the candidates can take it as many times they wish. The sample questions in the practice test would, however, not be representative of the content or difficulty level of the actual test.

The tutorial will explain features like navigation around the screen, question number, on-screen timer, next button, previous button, mark button, review button and quit test button.
