Tim Lincecum gave the Braves the slip , Sniper Girl - US

noreply@blogger.com (local usa uk news and reports) — Fri, 8 Oct 2010 01:31:00 -0700

SAN FRANCISCO -- There have always been reasons to doubt Tim Lin cecum. His delivery was going to make him injury prone, he was too thin and, of course, many considered him too short, a trait that has been talked at length from the moment he arrived in the majors. Somehow, it's still remarkable and shocking to see how slight Lin cecum appears in person.

Lin cecum's legend, and really his appeal, was that he was a tiny, weakfish player who could surprisingly zoom fastballs past hitters. But there came a point this season when he could no longer whip his fastball at 95-96 mph. The speed gun soon read an alarming 91-92 mph. In August, Lin cecum's ERA was a ghastly 7.82. He struck out just 27 batters, the lowest monthly total since September of his rookie season when he pitched only 16 innings.

This season, according to Pitch Fx data from Fan Graphs, the San Francisco Giants' ace threw his fastball just 39 percent of the time, the lowest percentage of his career. Clearly he was a different pitcher and there had been genuine concern about whether Lin cecum, a two-time Cy Young winner, could ever be great again.

Yet no one had quite counted upon his guile, which may be his best trait. When robbed of his greatest weapon -- his velocity -- Lin cecum came upon a new way to dominate hitters, a slider. That was his most dominating pitch in a 1-0 win against the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, in which he recorded a team-playoff-record 14 strikeouts. Lincecum allowed just two hits, and while he did not match Roy Hallway's no-hitter, he at least served notice he is once again a formidable force.

"Tonight was the best I've seen him," Braves catcher Brian McCain said.

Before his start on Sept. 12 against the San Diego Padres, Lin cecum, while playing catch with Giants pitcher Matt Cain, began to experiment with a new grip for his slider. Lin cecum had always held his slider almost like a two-seamier, with his index and middle finger between the narrowest parts of the seams. The torque of his slider came when he spun the ball with the outer part of his middle finger. This time, Lin cecum began to throw the slider with his two fingers across the seams. Lin cecum noticed that he could put more spin on the pitch because the seams gave him a better grip.

"It just kind of developed," Lin cecum said. "It felt like it was just right."

Indonesian Tree Man Brings Tolkien to Life , Public Power and Utility

noreply@blogger.com (local usa uk news and reports) — Fri, 8 Oct 2010 00:52:00 -0700

An Ant has been spotted in living daylight. For those who are not Tolkien fans, the Ants are the mythical race of humanoid trees from the Lord of the Rings, who are guardians of the forests, protecting them from evil.

35- year old Dede is the tree man who grew roots from his body after cutting his knee in a childhood accident. The warty growths began to compound until they covered his entire body and he became an Ant incarnate. This pic has been chosen keeping in mind queasy readers, Dede’s deformities have made his wife abandon him, and he is now part of a circus freak show.

His gnarled hands and feet have growths that amount to what look like 10 cm branches, and has baffled local doctors in the little Indonesian village where he was a fisherman before he joined the circus troupe.

The Telegraph interviewed tree man Dede, and doctor Anthony Gaspar i who took a blood sample, gave the low-down on the rare condition. The expert from the University of Maryland said that the tree man’s condition was owing to the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) that causes warts. But this common infection in Dede is compounded by a gene defect that thwarts his immune system from fighting the disease. Now that dermatological help is at hand, with Gaspar i flying out to Jakarta, Dede can now undergo surgery to lead a normal life. Military strategists must envy Dede as the ultimate camouflage guru, and he may be sought after for casting in the latest Tolkien sequel, but Dede has had enough of a freak’s life.

Kanye West debute d his "Power" video Thursday night (August 5) on MTV, leaving fans to interpret the rapper's vision in the Marco Brambilla-directed "portrait."

The 90-second visual was a digitized still image, in which Kanye West was decked out in a black T-shirt and the same flamboyant jewelry he wore during this year's BET Awards.

The video began with the chanting of the gospel-tinged record, and while the image of West was still, the camera pulled away from the digitized fixture to reveal multiple women, some saints and some sinners. The video was rife with religious references; Brambilla said the rapper admired his previous efforts, which combined sexual overtones with religious imagery.

"I instantly connected to the themes on the album," Brambilla told MTV News of West's yet-untitled next LP. "The whole idea of celebrity, the idea of power, the idea of sensuality in it, there's sexuality in it as well, and those were all kind of themes that I've explored in my work before. Once I heard the album, that was what clinched it, and I felt very much in tune with the message behind the music."

Toward the end of the brief clip, the camera pulls away to reveal imagery of West with decorated woman, who were placed adjacent to the rapper and who also stood upside down.

The production climaxes with an all-black background with the word "Power" across the screen.

"I've always wanted to do something that would visualize power, to do a portrait of what power would look like in a sort of timeless way and being able to have him framed in that portrait," Brambilla said. "Essentially doing a video portrait of Kanye as a symbol of power was very consistent with my art practice and what I explore in my artwork."

Merle Haggard was in his early twenties, serving a possible 20 years in prison when San Quentin guards found him, drunk off his own beer, after he'd fallen into a latrine. "They handcuffed my ass and took me to where they gas people," he said. It's one of many heartbreaking stories in Merle Haggard: Learning to Live With Myself, a new PBS documentary about the country legend. The film features interviews with Keith Richards, Kris Kristoffer son, John Fogerty, and Robert Duvall, and examines the hardships of Haggard Bakersfield, California upbringing. He lost his father at age nine, spent his teenage years escaping from youth institutions and later penned 38 Number One country classics.

"It's about how this guy is trying to accept himself and deal with everything that happened to him in his life when he was young," says director Gander Hennig, who also directed 2004's Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel (Learning to Live With Myself debuts tonight at 9 p.m. on PBS as part of the American Masters series). Hennig followed Haggard on the road over three years, and filled the doc with fascinating archival footage of Haggard earliest performances in the Sixties. Rolling Stone spoke with Haggard about the documentary, his upcoming album with Willie Nelson and why he wants to retire.

MIDDLEBROW — Madison and Alex King have parents who know how to throw a birthday party. Because their birthdays are close together, the children often get one big party for both of them. This time wasn't any different. Church of Our Savior's Parish Hall was booked, balloons, streamers and tables were all decked out and the DJ arrived as planned and then the party with 30 friends all began.

There was something quite different, however, about this party. Madison came up with a unique idea and Alex, reluctant at first, soon agreed. The King family are very active in the life and worship of Church of our Savior. Randy King is currently the senior warden of the parish and his wife Kelly helps with Christian Education. Alex and Madison regularly attend classes while Madison also began serving as an acolyte this year.

"We often wonder when we take our children to church if they understand what they are being taught," said a spokesperson. "We hope and pray as they attend religious education that they 'get it.' It appears that Madison and Alex do."

Last May Church of Our Savior distributed grocery bags to their parishioners and the Sunday School. Individuals took a bag home and returned them full the next Sunday. These were then distributed to St. Vincent DE Paul's food pantry here in Middlebrow. What was Madison's idea for her birthday? Instead of receiving presents, why not have their friends bring dry goods? And that's what happened in abundance.

Thanks to Madison's and Alex's generous idea several Middlebrow residents will be able to feed their families. One family was so inspired by Alex's invitation to their son they also did something unique and generous. As the King family were loading up the car to go home they found a note on the car seat. A donation was made in Alex's name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Gameduell 'Throwdown’ recipe is a secret, but Vera Stewart tells how to make chocolate pecan cupcakes

Vera Stewart is known for her Very Vera cakes, and soon she'll be even better known because of her appearance at 9 tonight on the Food Network's Throw down with Bobby Flay.

Stewart was selected to compete with Flay in a carrot cake "throw down." While the production was top-secret, it wasn't a surprise to me, because I was contacted by the network in mid-April about using my kitchen for an upcoming show.

Depending on how the episode is edited, my kitchen should be making a cameo appearance when Stewart prepares her carrot cake in a home kitchen. Other parts of the episode were shot at Stewart's business and at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

The carrot cake recipe is a family secret, but Stewart has agreed to let me share another of her dessert recipes, one for buttery chocolate pecan cupcakes. If you keep unsweetened chocolate and cocoa powder in your pantry, you can whip these up any time, as the remaining ingredients are refrigerator and pantry staples.

If your family doesn't care for nuts, you can omit the pecans and the recipe will yield 16 cupcakes instead of 18.

Stewart tops her cupcakes with a simple chocolate frosting that includes cocoa powder and powdered sugar, and it will be my go-to chocolate frosting recipe from here on. It is easy to prepare and makes a large batch, more than you'll need to frost these cupcakes.

Enjoy Stewart's cupcakes at your next barbecue or covered-dish supper .

Following Teen Mom

noreply@blogger.com (local usa uk news and reports) — Wed, 21 Jul 2010 04:38:00 -0700

today we are discussing about the matter of teen mom and it proved the premiere of two babies
which are amber and farah whose mom make normal way out and once again everyone has his or her reasons, and we all, as viewers, worry about those babies,
in this documentary all the chracters seemed normaly trapped in the different options and source to choice the side on which they have to move.the meci wants to get support the cildren in a leagule way and put some action on her boy friend. And catelyn wants to remove him from the house for the better future of her childrens.
and meanwhile farah grown up and her mother didnot explain about the court order to restraint woman before hit the farahand amber also might be think again and also she pregnant again.

It would be foolish to think that some of these narratives aren’t manipulated a bit for the cameras. That pregnancy scare was drawn out too long, and I get the feeling that Tyler plays up his tragic-hero mopiness when he knows the camera crew will come upon him looking at photo albums of his now-adopted infant. But that doesn’t mean all of these stories don’t pull at your heart and your mind: Don’t you find it almost impossible to fathom how any of these people are going to pull themselves out of their complex, vexed situations?

Following Teen Mom, the determined uplift of If You Really Knew Me was compelling in a different way. The series is filmed in coordination with Challenge Day, a social program in which trained leaders visit high schools and, in one intensive day, try to break down the cliques and emotional barriers that keep students from getting to know each other.

n fact, that’s why I think the program works to whatever extent it does: When the Challenge Day leaders took the kids through a series of intimacy exercises, it all happened so fast and with such positive energy, most of the students seemed unable to resist its allure. I’m not sure how long-lasting the changes in students’ behavior lasts, but for this night, it seemed like an undeniably positive experience.
