When I was 5 years old I was at the zoo standing at the glass of the polar bear exhibit and the polar bear apparently thought I looked a lot like a seal and ran up to the glass and tried to eat me.
I've never been to Mexico.
I don't really care for hippies.
Someday I hope to own my own flower shop.
I think coconut and oysters are the two nastiest things I've ever eaten.
I can't whistle with my tongue.

This is about all I'm going to have left soon - and I'm really just not exaggerating. Gas prices are creeping up again, grocery prices seem to be rising, too, and my company has put a freeze on raises indefinitely. I've already had to go to a credit counselor to consolidate some of my bills. There isn't much more I can do! I thought Mr.Obama (the Saint of our time) was going to save us! Where's all this change he promised? When is he going to fix 'all of the problems that Bush caused'?

I don't know about you, but I'm really tired of the government just wasting money on bailouts that aren't doing crap for the economy. I've heard what some states are doing with the money and it's ridiculous. Here in my town they're using the money for school books and road work. Um, how is that helping the economy? I mean, yeah, our roads suck ass, but we need to fix the economy people!! Ugh!! The state has a website where you can go on and offer suggestions on how to spend the money. Some people are going on there and saying that they want a new car, or that they want college tuition. Jeez.

I'm just to the point where I'm fed up. We just need to let the big companies fail and let small businesses thrive. Isn't that what this country was built on? You have the right to succeed, but you also have the right to fail. Life isn't fair, people. The sooner we all learn that, the better off we'll be. So start keeping score at your kids soccer games, let your older teenager have a later curfew, and stop whining when things don't go your way!

Hello Sadie's Say-So Readers,

I'm Joe Watt, I'm a writer, comedian and musician. I asked Sadie if I could guest post through a forum that we are both patrons of. She agreed, to help me promote a new Blog Project I'm working on that I have named Tube And Loop (http://www.tubeandloop.tk) It's a collaborative project I'm doing with a few of my writer and comedian friends.

Since I'm posting on Sadie's blog I really should write and entertaining worthwhile post. So I shall, I will write about Sadie.

The first contact I made with Sadie, I knew she was a dedicated and kind person. She commented on my blog (my old one) on the Bloggeries forum (www.bloggeries.com/forum), within an hour of me posting the thread in the "show off you blog" section of the forum! I visited other threads in this section and she always seemed to be first to reply, happy and content in herself writing positive, encouraging messages on peoples blog threads and in the "lounge" threads. She definitely boosted my and many others confidence and continues to do so whilst socialising all over the place.

I think her progress in Sadie's Skinny (http://sadies-skinny.com/blog/) Is brilliant, I watch intently fighting for our Sadie. She's been a real help and has inspired a friend of mine to start keeping a weight loss Journal (offline)

Sadie's such a happy person when in the forum and I'm pretty sure she's similar outside too!

Macy's Closing 11 Stores

We all know we're in a recession. We all feel it. A lot of us feel luck to have job's right now. Just yesterday my company sent out a memo saying that there will be no raises this year and that there are now 5 more unpaid holidays that we have to take. Well, Macy's felt it particularly hard last year. With fewer of us being able to shop, sales quotas weren't met, even with items being put on sale. So Macy's is closing 11 stores this year. Some employee's will be eligible to apply for other store locations, but, obviously, not all of them will have that option. That's going to leave hundreds jobless.

These are the stores closing:

– The Citadel, Colorado Springs, Colo. (195,000 square feet; 105 employees; opened in 1984)

This was my big Christmas present: a KitchenAid food processor. Exciting, huh? Now if I can just figure out some good recipes. That's where you guys come in! Give me some good ones!

I'm thinking about making some creamy chicken soup over the weekend. It's cold and rainy tonight, so that would be perfect. I'm thinking about cooking some chicken, carrots, and celery, then mixing in some cream, cream of mushroom soup, garlic, and spices and then cooking it. What do you think? I'd keep it kind of chunky, of course, but kind of creamy. I don't know. I'd have to play with it.

The booklet came with some great recipes. I can't wait to try them. But there are only 4 or 5 - I need more!

Do any of you have some good ones? I love to cook, so make me work!

What's Your Resolution?

I've been reading a lot of posts all over the web lately about New Year's resolutions. It's got me thinking about what I'm going to make mine. I mean, obviously I'm already doing the weight loss thing, so it wouldn't really be fair to say "I'm going to lose weight in 2009!" now, would it? I also quit smoking this year, so that's out. What's left?

I really want to make a point to put away some money this year. Not just make money - I mean start actually saving money. My husband and I are about to start a credit consolidation service to help with that part of our finances, and we're moving home in May. Home is Alabama, and the cost of living is way cheaper there than here in Virginia. So that will save us $300 - $400 a month in rent each month right from the start. I'd like to start putting some money aside so we can actually build for ourselves and maybe buy a house some day like real adults. What a concept, right?

What are all of you doing? I'd love to hear some other ideas!

A few weeks ago, Valerie, from I Know EVERYTHING - just ask my hubby had a contest to win a Mugen Pop-Pop. Have you guys heard of these things? I saw a commercial the other day on TV. For all of you who are fidgety like me, this little toy is the perfect solution. Like bubble-wrap? Need something to constantly play with? Well, get one of these! The little buttons feel like you're popping bubble-wrap, and the speaker on the back makes the same sound. Then, randomly, it will make a funny noise at you! Sometimes it rings like a bell, sometimes it chimes, and one time it even made a fart noise at me!

This holiday season a lot of people have decided not to trade gifts. My husband and I are not exchanging gifts. We're sending small things to the family, but we figure that we'd rather donate to a cause than buy something for ourselves this year. Not only do we not need more stuff sitting around our tiny apartment, but there are a lot of people in our country right now who are in need of kindness.

Remember when you were a kid when you went to the mall to sit on Santa's lap? Well, this website is about as close as you can get to that without leaving the comfort of your own home to stand in line! Courtesy of CEIVA, this neat website offers a unique experience for the holidays! I love these kind of websites that make you interact. You start off by watching a short video of Santa in his workshop along with one of his elves. He's showing you a brand new favorite product of the year - a really neat digital picture frame. You can upload photos to it from anywhere! You can be across the country and send pictures via your cell phone or email. How neat is that?! I'm always impressed with how technology is moving. It's crazy!

Anyway, you then upload a picture of yourself into it to interact. Again, I'm easily entertained, so this was really neat to me! The picture of me is one of my favorites! I'm usually not a photogenic person, so I was really excited when I took the picture - and it was with my cell phone! Go figure. I sent the video to my family because my dad and my brother are both huge tech junkies. They were really excited and the picture frame. I think they're both going to buy one!

Decorating My Apartment

If you know me by now, then you know that I live in a tiny apartment. I make the best of it by saying that it's "comfy-cozy" and "quaint", but, c'mon - it can be a real pain. There isn't much room for all of our stuff, but the good thing is that I've learned how to stack a lot of boxes into only 3 closets!

Decorating for Christmas is really tough in a small place. Growing up we always put the Christmas tree in the front window. In other places I've lived that's what I've done. Well, not here! That's where I had to put my loveseat. My only option was to buy a small tabletop pre-lit tree. It works, though. I tied some ribbon to a few branches, hung a few of my favorite ornaments, found a star to put on top, and there ya go!

The only other things I really have room for are some dish towels and pot holders in my kitchen, my stockings (which I still have to find hooks for), and my nativity scene. Here's my nativity scene:

As a Bama fan, I just had to share this. I would have given anything to be there. But, alas, I live 1,000 miles away so I had to watch on TV. It was still amazing. To watch the seniors, who had never beaten Auburn, go from the beginning of the game thinking they would, to the middle of the game knowing it was in their grasp, to the end of the game seeing it was real - it was just awesome. I have friends and family who were in the stadium and they told me that the atmosphere was just unreal. It hasn't felt this way since the 1992 season - since the last time we were National Champions. World's AIDS Day

Today, December 1st, is World's AIDS Day. There are many ways to get involved. Please make sure you spread the word on this important day, even if it's just to tell your friends to practice safe sex.

In the past year, over 2 million people were newly infected with the HIV virus. 2 million. Granted, not everyone will get full-blown AIDS, but that's horrendous. This virus is preventable! With education and preventative action, we can wipe out this disease.

Also, in the past year, almost the same number of people died of AIDS as there were new infections - just over 2 million. This is something that is in our control to stop within our lifetime. Unlike cancer and Alzheimer's, this can be handled just by pure prevention of spreading the disease!

Please consider making a donation, or at least spreading the word about this cause.

Who Does it Bail-Out?

With the latest bail-out of Citigroup costing us, the American taxpayers, approximately $20 billion dollars, you'd think they'd use the money to put some of their assets in order. Well, at least you'd think they'd not turn around and rob us for even more money. Wrong!

Yesterday, like any other day, I came home after a long day at work and checked the mail, sat down on the couch, and began sorting through the bills. One of these envelopes I had received contained a letter from Citi explaining to me that starting December 1st of this year, the APR on the credit card I hold with them will now have an interest rate of the Prime Rate +13.99%. Oh, but wait, I'm not finished. The minimum APR cannot ever be below 19.99%. So, right now the Prime Rate is 4.00%. So, with the 13.99% added it would be 17.99%, which is really high, but since it can't be below 19.99%, it will default to 19.99%.

Keep in mind that this credit card is a monster anyway. We've had issues with Citi for a long time. Knowing that they've been in trouble, though, now it makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to get the balance down for years. I don't use the card, but the minimum payment is almost $200. I pay a little more than that each month - as much as I can afford - but the balance never really seems to move. Once year I used $900 of my tax return and 9 months later the balance was right back where it started. It's so frustrating! With this change, I don't know what we're going to do. The minimum payment is going to jump to probably almost $500, which I cannot afford. That will incur late charges, which will make the minimum even higher.

I wrote my Congressman today, and my Senator. I really think everyone else needs to do the same. This credit mess needs to be addressed, and handled. If anyone in this economy needs help, it's the people. I'm not asking for money. I don't want taxpayer money. I just want the government to stop handing it out to everyone else, and I want them to stop letting companies rob us blind! There needs to be a cap on credit companies - some kind of regulation on how they handle business. It's gotten out of hand. A good percentage of the country is going to have to file for bankruptcy at this rate.

Speaking of Music

So my post yesterday got me thinking about music stuff. I live for music. I breath it, it lives deep in my soul. I don't know what my life would be like without it, where I would be - or who I would be, for that matter. We all have that 'one song' that defines us. For me, it's "Fade" by Staind. What about you?

One of the greatest poets of my generation was Kurt Cobain. He was taken from this world too soon, as I do not believe that he killed himself. He had way too much heroine in his body (even for an addict) to shoot himself.

A strange thing about my family is that my sister's 12th birthday was the day that Kurt Cobain died - April 5th, 1994, and my mom turned 25 on the day that Elvis died - August 16th, 1977. Two members of my family have birthdays on the same day that the two greatest musical influences in American history died. I don't know, I just think that's weird.

No More White Guilt

I got this in an email over the weekend and I wanted to share it. I came from The London Times, written by Tom Adkins.

"Look at my fellow conservatives! There they go, glumly shuffling along, depressed by the election aftermath. Not me. I'm virtually euphoric. Don't get me wrong. I'm not thrilled with America's flirtation with neo socialism. But there's a massive silver lining in those magical clouds that lofted Barack Obama to the Presidency. For today, without a shred of intellectually legitimate opposition, I can loudly proclaim to American: The Era of White Guilt is over. This seemingly impossible event occurred because the vast majority of white Americans didn't give a fluff about skin color, and enthusiastically pulled the voting lever for a black man. Not just any black man. A very liberal black man who spent his early career race-hustling banks, praying in a racist church for 30 years, and actively worked with America-hating domestic terrorists. Wow! Some resume! Yet they made Barack Obama their leader. Therefore, as of Nov 4th, 2008, white guilt is dead.

For over a century, the millstone of white guilt hung around our necks, retribution for slave-owning predecessors. In the 60s, American liberals began yanking that millstone while sticking a fork in the eye of black Americans, exacerbating the racial divide to extort a socialist solution. But if a black man can become President, exactly what significant barrier is left? The election of Barack Obama absolutely destroys the entire validation of liberal white guilt. The dragon is hereby slain.

So today, I'm feeling a little "uppity", if you will. From this day forward, my tolerance level for having my skin color hustled is now exactly ZERO. And it's time to clean house. No more Reverend Wright's "God Damn America", Al Sharpton's Church of Perpetual Victimization, or Jesse Jackson's rainbow racism. Cornell West? You're a fraud. Go home. All those "black studies" programs that taught kids to hate whitey? You must now thank Whitey. And I want that on the final. Congressional Black Causus? Irrelevant. Maxine Waters? Shut up. ACORN? Outlawed. Black Panthers? Go home and pet your kitty. Black separatists? Find another nation that offers better dreams. Go ahead. I'm waiting. Gangsta rappers? Start praising America. Begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. And please, no more ebonics. Speak English, and who knows where you might end up? Oh, yeah... pull up your pants. Your underwear is showing. You look stupid. To those Eurosnots who forged entire careers hating America? I'm still waiting for the first black French President.

And let me offer an equal opportunity whupping. I've always despised lazy white people. Now, I can talk smack about lazy black people. You're poor because you quit school, did drugs, had three kids with three different fathers, and refuse to work. So when you plop your Colt 45-swilling, Oprah watchin' butt on the couch and complain "Da Man is keepin' me down," allow me to inform you: Da Man is now black. You have no excuses.

No more quotas. No more handouts. No more stealing my money because someone's great-great-great-great grandparents suffered actual pain and misery at the hands of people I have no relation to, and personally revile.

It's time to toss that massive, obsolete race-hustle machine upon the heap of the other stupid 60s ideas. Drag it over there, by wife swapping, next to dope smoking. Plenty of room right between free love and cop-killing. Careful you don't trip on streaking. There ya go, don't be gentle. Just dump it. Wash your hands. It's filthy.

In fact, Obama's ascension created a gargantuan irony. How can you sell class envy and American unfairness when you and your black wife went to Ivy League schools, got high-paying jobs, became millionaires, bought a mansion, and got elected President? How unfair is that?? Now, like a delicious O'Henry tale, Obama's spread-the-wealth campaign rendered itself moot by it's own victory! America is officially a meritocracy. Obama's election has validated American conservatism!

So, listen carefully... Wham!!!

That's the sound of my foot kicking the door shut on the era of white guilt. The rites have been muttered, the carcass lowe red, dirt shoveled, and tombstone erected. White guilt is dead and buried. However, despite my glee, there's apparently one small, rabid bastion of American racism remaining. Black Americans voted 96% for Barack Obama. Hmm. In a color-blind world, shouldn't that be 50-50? Tonight, every black person should ask for forgiveness for their apparent racism and prejudice towards white people.

Maybe it's time to start spreading the guilt around."

I remember being in the 8th grade, in history class talking about slavery. Our teacher had a very 'open' style of teaching where we were aloud to speak our minds, ask questions, etc, because he felt that we would learn better if we interacted - and we did! I loved that class. Well, on this particular day, we were discussing the hardships that the slaves went through. Out of nowhere a black girl in my class stood up and said, "One day all you white people are going to be our slaves and you'll know what it's like to suffer like we do". I've never forgotten that.

Since the election, the mood around work has changed a lot. I work for a large company with a lot of different kinds of people, with a lot of cubicles. A lot of people now have Obama pictures plastered everywhere which has stirred up talk, but no one really knows what to say.

I love the article because he talks about how blind people have gotten to the race issue. It used to be that whites were the only racist ones. But a lot has changed since the 60s. In some cases it's taken almost a complete 180. Martin Luther King, Jr, and others like him didn't fight and die so that people would act like this just 50 years later. I just really wish people would slow down and take a step back and open their eyes and think for a minute. I feel like things are spinning out of control.

Easing the Addiction

Seriously, why are cashews so addictive? I bought a can of Planters Nut-trition the other day. I can't put it down. It's got cashews, almonds, and macadamias. Now, the recommended amount is 21 pieces. Yeah, right! My only saving grace is that this is a mix and not a whole can of cashews. I'd really be in trouble then. I bought one of those a few weeks ago and I had to tell my husband to take it from me and hide it. I don't know what it is, but they're just so addictive! I could eat a whole can at one time. I'd really regret it later, but I could do it! Does anyone else have that problem, or is it just me?

This weekend I made two really great purchases. The first being gas for under $2. That was the first time in, what, like 4 years? I took this picture while sitting at the pump. I just had to share it with you guys. I pulled into the station on fumes - I thought that we were seriously going to have to push the car the last mile - and I filled the whole tank for $24.50. It was amazing. And that will last me probably 2 weeks.

Another good thing I did this week was clean out my closet. It felt so good to go through and get rid of things that have gotten too big, and find things that I can fit into again! Plus, my husband loved the fashion show... So, not only was I able to gi ve some things away, but it was almost like Christmas to find things that I haven't been able to wear in a long time.

My other great purchase of the weekend was a litter box. I know, that sounds really weird, right? Well, I don't know about you other cat owners, but I'm sick and tired of stepping on cat litter all the time! We live in a small apartment so we have to keep the litter box in the bathroom. Every time she comes out of it she brings litter on her feet and it gets everywhere! And since she's still in the kitten phase she comes flying out of it half of the time which just makes it worse. So, here's my solution:

Makes since, huh? I feel stupid for not thinking of it first. Now when she comes out of it she can't fly out of it face first and bring half of the litter with her! And what litter is on her feet gets caught in the top. It's genius! I bought it at PetSmart. You can order it online, though, if you want.
