Hello friends! I have a lot of exciting news today! Today is August 1st, which means the release of the brand new Close To My Heart 2014/15 Annual Inspirations Idea Book, and all of the new products inside! Plus, there is a new Constant Campaign for August, and a new Stamp of the Month for August!

Also, to coincide with the new catalog and new beginnings, I have switched over to WordPress and made a new blog! I was able to import all of my posts and comments from this blog, so when you find me at my new site, all of the same content will still be available.

Here is a partial screen shot (condensed) of what the new site looks like. It is more streamlined, less cluttered, and hopefully, more aesthetically pleasing!! And best of all, my new blog address is:

"You're So Hot" Card

Today is the very last day to get the paper packs I have been featuring this week, as well as a bunch of other retiring products from CTMH. You can find the complete list of what's left in stock HERE.

The card above is made with the Timberline Paper Packet. I checked this morning and it is now out of stock. However, the Timberline Complements (the cute stickers that I used on this card) are still available, while supplies last, and only until the end of the day.

Now, on to the card...

I did not do any stamping or inking on this card! I simply used the beautiful patterned papers and stickers. The Bamboo colored cardstock on the top portion of the card was distressed with my sanding block to make some of the pretty white core show through.

The arrow strip was cut off the top of one of the Timberline papers. In case you don't know, each 12" x 12" sheet of patterned CTMH paper comes with a "zip strip" on top. The zip strip is patterned on one side (the other side has the paper info, UPC code, etc.), so that you can use it on your projects!

Once the strip is cut off, the remaining paper is a true 12' x 12" size!

I simply added the Timberline stickers to make a different take on this card. Instead of the outdoor, adventure, camping theme of the stickers, my card has a different implication ;o) Two gold Durables Triangle Studs were added to the card for some dimension.

"This is Good!" Card

Each day this week I have been featuring a card made with the current CTMH paper packs. And... we have been doing the countdown on each set of papers, since they are all retiring on July 31st! This card uses the Skylark Paper Packet, which you only have one more day to purchase!

I used Juniper ink to sponge around the edges of my background paper, tall strip, and small hexagons. Those tiny little hexagons were cut with the Artbooking Cricut cartridge. Actually, I cut a large hexagon overlay for another project and saved these little "negative space" pieces for future projects.

All of the stamped images were done with Chocolate ink.

Let me tell you something about these stamp sets. The sentiment, "This is Good!" was taken from a Hostess Only stamp set. "All the Details" Card

This bright, summery paper packet, called "Jubilee" is another one of the CTMH retiring products that is only available for 2 more days! If you want to get your packet before they are gone, please click HERE.

This card is a tall and skinny 3.5" x 5.5" card. The background paper is Indian Corn Blue and all of the patterned papers are from the Jubilee Paper Packet. I used Indian Corn Blue and Honey inks to sponge around my paper edges, and Cranberry ink to stamp my sentiment.

I love the way the bright reds, blues, yellow, and green complement each other in this summery card! The Jubilee inspired colors were part of the Color Dare #103 challenge this week, found HERE. The official challenge colors were: Honey, Indian Corn Blue, Topiary, and Cranberry.

A Ray of Lollydoodle Sunshine!

This cute little 3" x 3" card looks like a ray of Lollydoodle sunshine! All of the papers used to create this card are from the Lollydoodle Paper Packet... which is retiring in 3 more days! Yikes, time to stock up if you love this paper!

I did not do any stamping on this project. I used a little bit of Cotton Candy (pink) ink to sponge around the pink cardstock, but that's it for the ink!

After I created a "sunshine ray" effect with the Lollydoodle papers, I added a cute flower button from the Lollydoodle Assortment. Adding the button at the point where all of the "rays" meet, keeps everything looking neat and tidy. To finish off the card, I added 3 pink glitter gems.

Flashback Friday #8: Everything Is Awesome Card

Just a few days ago, we watched The LEGO Movie. Even though we don't have small children anymore, we heard that this movie was a box office hit and was worth the rent. Well, it was a super cute movie! More than anything though, the movie's theme song, "Everything is Awesome" stuck in my head and I have found myself humming it on quite a few occasions over the past few days!

So, with the movie on my mind, and the song in my head, I just had to create a LEGO inspired card! Unfortunately, I don't own a dot embossing folder that looks like LEGO blocks (I've seen people recreate those and they look great!). I do have a dot folder though, so I did the best I could to create some "blocks" for the card.

Since the traditional LEGO blocks are extremely colorful, I wanted to use the brightest primary papers I could find. Luckily, I had retired papers from the CTMH "Summer" collection on hand. Since all of the colors used in this project (with the exception of black and white) are retired, I knew that this card would be great for Flashback Friday!

Just in case you are curious, or own these papers yourself, here are the colors that I used: Star Spangled Blue, Holiday Red, Clover Meadow, and Sunny Yellow. I LOVE all of these bright colors and was so sad when they retired (lucky I stocked up a bit!).

The stamp set that I used is called "True to Life" and is still current. I sought out this set, knowing that one of the stamps said "Awesome" and would fit my theme! I stamped the word "Awesome" seven times in various colors. Six of the images are featured on the banner, with the blue sentiment stamped twice and layered on top of each other with foam tape. On the "Remember This" sentiment, I hand-wrote "Everything is" and then added an "Awesome" stamp below it. Both were popped off the card with foam tape.

A few bling sparkles to finish off the card, and Everything is Awesome!

Lollydoodle Mini Book

This mini picture book just screams little girl, tween, and teen! It's got pink, glitter, gems, secret pockets, and trendy sayings... oh yeah, and a few cute little owls, too! Why does everyone loves owls so much right now? If you are one of the owl lovers, just wait until next week when I feature the August Stamp of the Month set!

Anyway, back to the mini book. I created this short book with the Lollydoodle Paper Packet and matching cardstock and inks. I used the Cricut Artbooking cartridge heavily for this project! All of the cute cut-outs, overlays, and sentiments are from Artbooking. The Lollydoodle Paper Packet, Complements, and Assortments used will all be retired next week when the new catalog comes out. Let's take a tour through this short book! The front cover is pictured above. Next we have these two pages...

Small pictures can be tucked inside various places on all of these layouts. Some can be hidden (in small envelopes and pockets), and others are in plain sight. Now let's flip the page...

There's another cute owl! And, plenty of room for larger pictures or journaling here. Next...

This picture looks very busy, but if you look closely, you 'll see that there is a half page in the middle! Here's a shot with the half page lifted...

...and then closed to the other side. Here is a shot of the last decorated page (the back of the book is plain)...

The final page has a large pocket to tuck various items inside. And, there is a page tucked in to the pocket that can be removed for journaling or pictures...

A time-consuming book to make, but a cute result! The product list below looks a little intimidating because I used a lot of different items to make the book! But, they all worked cohesively together. Don't forget, if you think that any of these items are super cute, there is a very limited time left to purchase them!

"Imprint On My Heart" Card

Today's card was made with an exclusive stamp set from the Skylark Workshops On The Go (WOTG) Kit. I really like that the CTMH WOTG kits have their own exclusive stamps... it's adds so much value to the kit! The Skylark Kit, as well as all of the other WOTG kits in our current catalog will be retiring in one week to make room for brand new kits!

I used the following colors of cardstock and inks on this card: Cranberry, Goldrush, Indian Corn Blue, and White Daisy.

The card measures 5" x 7" and was created with White Daisy cardstock as the base. The small red scalloped edges were created with scissors that make a scalloped cut. I could have created a much neater edge (particularly on the circle) if I used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, but my scissors happened to be closer and I took the quicker route this time :o)

All of the sentiment images were stamped with Cranberry ink. The top sentiment was popped off the page with some foam tape for added dimension. The flower is by Prima and the white organdy ribbon and tiny button are retired CTMH products.

"Believe In Yourself" Card

Today I have a simple card that was inspired by a couple of challenge blogs. This card measures 5" x 7" and uses the following color palette: Indian Corn Blue, Sweet Leaf, Sorbet, and White Daisy.

The design for this card was inspired by Retrosketches, challenge #124, found HERE. The colors of cardstock and inks for this card were inspired by Color Dare, challenge #102, found HERE.

The stamp set used for this card is called "Believe in Yourself," and I find myself using it quite a bit. For this particular card, I focused on the birds that come with the set.

The Sweet Leaf cardstock was run though my Cuttlebug machine using the CTMH Quatrefoil Embossing Folder. LOVE that folder and the embossed image it makes!

All of the colored cardstock was inked around the edges for a bit of dimension. The sentiments were stamped with Sorbet ink and attached to the card with foam tape to pop off of my card! Finally, I added a small white organdy ribbon bow in the center to break up the stamped images.

Flashback Friday #7: Name Art for Baby

Welcome to Flashback Friday! Today's project is brand new, but made with older, mostly retired CTMH products. If you have followed my blog for awhile, you might remember a baby boy card I made back in early June for a friend of mine that is having a baby next month. Well today's project is a matching gift that goes with that card.

Both projects used patterned papers taken from a retired kit called, Snips and Snails. The cardstock colors used in this project were: Heavenly Blue (retired), Sunkiss Yellow (retired), Buttercup, Sweet Leaf, and White Daisy. The ink colors were: Heavenly Blue (retired), Sunkiss Yellow (retired), and Sweet Leaf.

When you look at the project a little closer, you can see where I have stamped on the cardstock, for a subtle background look.

Although the beautiful baby-boy themed papers really stand out, I added a few embellishments for further interest, including: buttons, waxy flax, gems, brads, and Washi tape.

Here is a picture of the framed project. I had a heck of a time trying to take a picture without the glare, but it proved impossible for a novice photographer like myself. Taking a picture on the side helped a bit, but if you look closely, you can see the reflection of my iPad taking the picture...LOL!

"Good Job" Card

Here is another card made with a cute little mini stamp. The "Good Job" stamp is sold individually, and is only $2.95! I like that it has a lot of white space in the center that can be colored in. Time to get out your markers or watercolor pencils ladies!

This card measures 4.25" x 5.5" and uses the following cardstock and ink color palette: Lagoon (turquoise), Pear (green), Gypsy (purple), and Sunset (orange).

The color inspiration came from the Color Dare challenge #101, found here. For the overall design, I followed the Retrosketches challenge sketch #123, found here.

The small banners, background cardstock, and flowers were all inked with their corresponding colors. The three flowers and leaves were cut with the CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge. And to finish off the card, turquoise colored Aqua Dots were added in various sizes.

Dream Card Using Picture My Life: No Stamps, No Ink, No Kidding!

The other day, I was going through my stash of Picture My Life (PML) cards (similar to Project Life, but exclusive to CTMH!), and was really noticing how beautiful they were as stand alone cards. All of the cards have full-color images on the front and back, which is well-suited for pocket-style scrapbooking where the card will be seen on both sides through the page protectors. But to use the cards in another way, sometimes means that only one of those beautiful images will be shown, which is kind of a shame. (To learn more about PML, see this post HERE.)

When I was at the Close To My Heart annual convention a couple of weeks ago, one of the classes that we took was about Picture My Life, and ways to use these cards other than in traditional pocket-style scrapbooking. Wanting to step outside of the box a bit, I decided to use one of the lovely 3" x 4" cards on a 4.25" x 5.5" card.

Taking some of the colors from the PML card itself, I came up with the following color palette: Cocoa, Bamboo, Lagoon, and White Daisy. For the card pattern, I used the Mojo Monday #354 card sketch, which can be found here.

As I started to assemble the pieces, I realized that the gorgeous little PML card was all the focus the card needed. I did not stamp any images (gasp!), and I did not ink around any edges (what?). Instead, I got out my edge distressing tool and sanding block (see the product list below) and went to town on roughing up the papers for a distressed look.

When everything was glued into place, I added a little piece of white grosgrain ribbon. I cut both ends of the ribbon at an angle and then pulled out some of the threads for a worn, frayed look. I used Glue Dots to hold down the ribbon and left it to show on the front of the card, instead of tucking it neatly behind the Cocoa cardstock. To finish off the card, I added a small scallop in Lagoon cardstock, and a Teal Resin Flower at the end of the ribbon.

As you might remember, I attended the Rubber Stamp Convention in Carson, CA this past weekend as a vendor. This was, by far, the largest event I have ever done. Besides this event, I have only had a table at craft fairs... and it's been a few years for that as well!

Since someone had cancelled their booth space, I was able to set up two tables at the event: one table for CTMH displays, and one table for make-and take projects. The front table was where most of the action was! I had three make-and-take seats ready for customers, and also some literature on the table about my workshops (local and online), and a draw box for a free draw.

The back table held more literature and various projects on display. Since my table was 2' smaller than I was told, I also had a little floor display, which is hard to see in the photo below.

I was fortunate that my daughter helped me out for the weekend. Actually, it was less fortune, and more bribery! She was paid to help at the event, and did a great job. Now there is something that you should know about my Megan... she did not inherit her mother's crafty gene. She has absolutely NO interest in crafting or creating. As a straight "A" student, she will work very hard on any creative project she is assigned, but always enlists my help.

So to my surprise, at some point throughout the event (during a lull in the afternoon), she asked me if she could make one of the make-and-take tags. Completely shocked, I said, "OF COURSE!" I guided her through the first one, and then she was off! She made about 30 tags over the course of two days!

When she first held the stamp, she thought it was the coolest thing ever because she could see through it and knew where it was going to stamp. I told her that she was lucky because she didn't get to play with just any old stamp, she got to play with Close To My Heart's premium clear stamps! I snapped a quick picture while she was distracted! Shhh, don't tell her that I posted it here...

It was a fun weekend with a lot of interaction with some very nice ladies! I will be following up with those that gave me their information within the next couple of days. I love what I do and am so excited to share CTMH and various types of paper crafting with others!

However.... as much fun as I had with the ladies at the event, one of the absolute highlights was meeting Tim Holtz!

I usually don't smile so hard (it shows all of the wrinkles...LOL!), but Tim was just too much fun! His booth was set up across from ours, so we saw his huge crowd all day as he was performing demos. I wanted to participate, but it was work time for me, guiding my own demos!

And speaking of demos, if I had to guess, I would say that we did about 200 make-and-take tags at our table. The tags were super easy to put together since all of the shapes were pre-cut with the CTMH Cricut cartridges! The ladies (and a couple of gents) got to ink/distress, stamp, and glue all of the components. The highlight for the majority of the ladies was using our awesome 2-way glue! Many of them had never used anything like it and LOVED it!

Since our CTMH paper is patterned on both sides, customers had a choice of the pink pattern, or the gray pattern from the same piece of paper. There were three sentiments to choose from, as shown above.

The adorable "Lollydoodle" paper that we used is only available for about two more weeks, then it will be retiring with all of the other patterned papers in the current Idea Book/Catalog. If you think it's cute, you need to get it now, before it's gone! But, a bunch of new paper packs will be introduced in our new Annual Inspirations Idea Book, available August 1, 2014!

Mini Skylark Box from Art Philosophy

This adorable little box was cut from the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, and then covered in papers from the Skylark Paper Packet. Since the Skylark papers have a double-side pattern, I used one side for the front, back, and bottom of the box, and then flipped the Skylark paper over to reveal another pattern to use on the sides of the box.

There isn't too much of a tutorial to give on this project, since the Cricut did all of the hard work for me! Basically, I just glued the paper onto the box, making sure that a pleasing pattern was showing on the front and back. Since I really wanted the blue Skylark bird to show on the front, I positioned it just right. Same goes for the bird on the back.

I was going to stamp a sentiment and adhere to the front, but I liked the pattern in the paper so much, I decided not to cover it up. Instead, I just added some of the Skylark Assortment (colorful resin birds and flowers) to the front and back, and let the paper remain the star of this project.

The Cricut cuts the box with the appropriate slits to assemble properly. To close the box, simply tie a ribbon, fabric, hemp, lace, etc. through the two holes at the top. Since I had fabric from the Skylark Textiles line on hand, I threaded two corresponding colors through the slits and tied them in knots.

This would be a great little gift box for giving a necklace or cuff made from our Base and Bling line of wearable crafts!

Art Philosophy Layered "Cake"...Yummy!

When I showed this "cake" to my daughter, she said that it looked good enough to eat! That's quite a compliment, seeing as it came from a tweenie girl that is too cool for most things :o)

I made this layered cake almost entirely with the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. All of the cake layers, flowers, and leaves were cut with Art Philosophy, but it did not contain a hexagon shape... so I cheated and cut the hexagon tops and bottoms with the Artbooking cartridge! Of course, you could always just trace around the shape and cut out by hand.

The palette that I used for this project included cardstock and inks in the following colors: Cotton Candy, Lagoon, Pear, and White Daisy.

Two More Cards from Artfully Sent

Does the first card in the picture above look familiar? I hope so, since that would mean that you have visited my blog before :o) I featured the "Beautiful Day" card yesterday, along with an introduction to the brand NEW CTMH Cricut cartridge, "Artfully Sent." If you missed that post, you can view it HERE.

Today, I would like to share the other two cards in the picture, also made at the CTMH convention with the Artfully Sent cartridge.

The "Hello Sunshine" card was so easy to make! It looks fancy with all of the cut-out detail, but the Cricut machine really does all of the hard, fussy work for you! The sentiment and sunburst were cut right into the card. I added colored cardstock behind the cut-outs and the card was almost finished!

To make it a little fancier, gold shimmer trim was added under the sentiment and gold sequins were adhered to the top of the card. The flower and leaves were stamped with a brand new stamp set called, "Have a Happy Day" (available August 1st), and attached with a piece of foam tape to make it pop.

Just when you thought that making card bases couldn't get an easier, along comes the "Thank You" swing card! This card is cut so that the middle "swings" when opening and closing.

This card was stamped all over both sides with a flower from the new "Happy Birds" stamp set. The "Thank You" sentiment was stamped right onto the card (you could also stamp onto cardstock, cut it out, and use foam tape to pop it up), and gold sequins were added for some interest. The black wreath was also cut from the Artfully Sent cartridge and simply glued on to the card.

These were very quick and easy cards to put together. Yet, you could get as creative as you want with designing the cuts on your cards, and embellishing the card bases when cut.
