A pair of angels, Balthamos and Baruch, inform Will that he must travel with them to give the Subtle Knife to Lyra's father, Lord Asriel, as a weapon against The Authority. Will ignores the angels; with the help of a local girl named Ama, the Bear King Iorek Byrnison, Lord Asriel's Gallivespian spies, the Chevalier Tialys and the Lady Salmakia, he rescues Lyra from the cave where her mother has hidden her from the Magisterium, which has become determined to kill her before she yields to temptation and sin like the original Eve.

Eragon
Eragon, a 15-year-old farm boy and the main character of the cycle, during a hunt finds a polished blue and white streaked stone, which magically appears, destroying a small patch of forest and scaring away his prey. He takes the stone back to his uncle's farm in hopes of selling it for food. Very little is known of his parentage, save that his mother was named Selena, and has not been seen since shortly after Eragon's birth when she begged Garrow to take care of him. After finding none who will buy the stone his family forgets about it. He is stunned when the stone turns out to be an egg, hatching to reveal a baby dragon, Saphira, who quickly grows in size and mental ability.

Eldest
Following the battle of Farthen Dûr, Ajihad, leader of the Varden, is killed in a sudden surprise attack by Urgals. Murtagh and the Twins (The Varden's best spell-weavers) disappear during the attack, and are presumed dead. After swearing fealty to Nasuada, Ajihad's daughter and new leader of the Varden, Eragon then sets out on his journey to Ellesméra, the elven capital, accompanied by Orik (a dwarf). Much of the book is devoted to Eragon's training with the ancient Dragon Rider Oromis, known as the Mourning Sage, and his unsuccessful attempts at wooing Arya, who is dedicated to her mission and considers his feelings misplaced. Eragon finds out that Arya is the daughter of Queen Islanzadí, which makes her a princess. He also discovers that when he blessed the baby in Farthen Dûr, he really cursed her.

Brisingr
The story opens with Eragon, Roran, and Saphira traveling towards Helgrind, the mountain dwelling of the Ra'zac where Roran's betrothed, Katrina, is being held prisoner. While they are camping, Eragon mends the wound that was inflicted on Roran by a Ra'zac back in Carvahall.

They infiltrate the mountain, rescuing Katrina and killing one Ra'zac, but Eragon also finds Sloan, Katrina's father, imprisoned. Eragon decides to remain in Helgrind to kill the remaining Ra'zac. He tells Saphira to go back to the Varden with Roran and Katrina, while he kills the Ra'zac. Eragon decides that he will force Sloan to go to the elves with the permission of Islanzadi and will be kept from seeing Katrina. Unhappy with this, Sloan urges Eragon to kill him, but Eragon discovers his true name, and uses it to force him to go.

Magyk
The plot revolves around the pauper-like Heap family. The parents, Silas and Sarah, have seven children, the youngest Jenna, whom Silas Heap found in the snow on the day that their own youngest son, Septimus, was born and supposedly died. When Jenna finds out on her tenth birthday a secret, from ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand herself, she realises that she—and the Heap family—are in danger. Septimus is now finding people to help rescue Jenna, but so far he found his older brother, Nicko, and his friend, Boy 409(Wolf Boy). Now the three of them must save Jenna before all else goes wrong.

Physik
This story begins with Silas Heap, who has unsealed a room housing the 500 year-old spirit of Queen Etheldredda. Now that she's freed, she seeks to have immortal life. Queen Etheldredda has placed Septimus Heap to her own time 500 years ago. Now Jenna, Nicko Heap, and Snorri Snorrelssen must save Septimus before Queen Etheldredda finishes her plan.

Queste
In the fourth book Queste, Septimus goes on a perilous quest to the House of Foryx to find Nicko and Snorri, who have been trapped back in time. Everyone at the Castle is slowly beginning to realize that their chances of coming back are slim. Septimus, aided by ancient alchemist Marcellus Pye, learns of a place where all time meets: the House of Foryx. With the help of the Questing Stone and Nicko's faded maps, Septimus tries to find the House of Foryx, and save Nicko and Snorri. and they do

Eclipse
The story begins with the revelation that Seattle is being plagued by a string of unsolved murders, which Edward suspects are being caused by a newborn vampire that is unable to control its thirst. Edward and Bella fill out college applications, while Bella explains to Edward her desire to see Jacob, her werewolf friend, again. Meanwhile, Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire who is hunting Bella, is back in town. Although Edward fears for her safety, Bella insists that Jacob and the rest of the werewolf pack would never harm her, and he eventually allows her to visit Jacob once in a while.

Breaking Dawn
Breaking Dawn is split into three separate "books", or parts. The first part details Bella's marriage and honeymoon with Edward, which they spend on a private island off the coast of Brazil. Edward grants Bella's wish and makes love to her. Soon after, Bella finds a box of unused tampons and realizes that she is pregnant. After contacting Carlisle, who confirms her belief, she and Edward plan to return home. Edward, concerned for her wellbeing, urges her to get an abortion. However, Bella wants to keep the child and decides to contact Rosalie for support, knowing that Rosalie has always wanted children.
