After being "freeze" from any work by her management company TVB due to contract renewal issue, Gigi finally release her latest single 最動人一次. This song is made to be the theme song of her upcoming musical special 恋上西沙. This is especially made to promote new launching of property in Sai Sha Go Park.

Composed by Harry Ng who also composed another advertisement related song of Gigi's. Also, the same lyricist Sandy Chang was engaged for this song. So, the quality of this song is ensured to be of top notch. And it really is top notch. Easy remember melody and hook with lyric that is easy to loop in your head.

Of course, Gigi's perform this song well with her calm and soothing voice. Using head voice in some of the end line and also her signature Gi-tone. In less than 16 hours the MV on YouTube already garnered more than 177K views. Proofing that her popularity is still there even though she was stopped from doing any work for more than 5 months.

If the contractual renewal issue is real (Gigi chose not to renew her contract with TVB and TMG) then 最動人一次 might be the last song of her with TMG. Fans will need to wait another 6 months or more until her contract ends before her next new single. It will be interesting to see which music label or artist management company Gigi will work with next.

SeowRead: How Was Your Day by Boey

Breaking away from his previous "When I Was a Kid" series which are stories about his childhood, Boey's latest book, "How Was Your Day" takes on the subject of being a young adult. I think this is clever transition as the first book of "When I Was a Kid" first published way back in 2011. The kid who first bought the book when it was published would have now going through experience similar to Cheryl, the young adult that "How Was Your Day" will be telling us.

Cheryl, a young adult at the age of 28 is facing what most young adult face in the working life. It starts with her job interview and what she faces during her changed of working environment. I won't want to spoil too much here.

I faced a similar experience as her in my first two full time jobs. Managers that shout and scold that also sometime likes to micromanage. I find it happens when the manager is way older than me, I was in my 20s and my manager then was in their 40s. As I changed jobs, I found that manager that was near my age has a much friendlier management style. I of course able to survive (maybe I am a male) the scolding and even became friend with my older managers as I will stand at their point of view on why they will be like that. As time goes by their attitude towards me changed.

Apart from stories about her at work. We also follow her relationship with her parents. Like most young adult who wants to make their own decision yet still get the nagging from parents. Because no matter how old we are, in our parents still view us as a kid. I found it a bit weird is why she mentioned "Jusco" instead of "Aeon" even in the year 2020. Jusco changed its name to Aeon in 2004. So, Cheryl would be around 12. Oh well sometimes name will get stuck from young. Maybe it is Boey that is still stuck with the name.

To summarized it, I found myself more excited to read "When I Was a Kid" series as it serves as a nostalgia to me. Boey and I both grew up in the same era after all. As for "How Was Your Day", it is a been there done that kind of reading. As Boey said in his interview, Cheryl is all of us. I think most young adult or even late teens will get more out of it than I whom is already 45 this year.

This is the second single released by Gigi Yim in 2024. For the first time in her MV she has got a love relationship with a male actor. This song is about long-distance relationship that didn't end well.

I think this is the first time Gigi has a typical Canto style ballad in her song list. She did very well in bringing out the emotions of this song in her singing. I teared a bit just 30 seconds into the song when I first heard it.

I love her ad lib as always. I would say this song will likely become very popular amongst the fans. Hopefully the Hong Kong radio stations will help to broadcast more of this song in the airwave.

The first single for the year 2024 for Gigi Yim. 透光者, which mean The Translucent One wants to tell a story of someone that is invisible to the one he/she likes. No matter what they do, the person they like won't take notice.

Using a kind of mixed voice to sing this song, Gigi said that it is a new approach for her and she was not satisfied with her performance during recording. Such a perfectionist. She said that she hopes that she will do better when doing live performances of this song.

This is of a more band sound and a bit of Country influence. Gigi handled the transition of chest voice to falsetto nicely. I especially like the Bridge and the ad hoc at the end. This song might not be a song that hit you when you first hear it but after looping it a few times it will gets more and more hook on you.

《大雕刻家 The Great Sculptor》, the second single from Windy Zhan is very different from her debut single 《沒有你的新學期》. This new song is more towards KPOP dance genre and it can be seen in the MV that Windy has a dance choreographed for this song.

This song is about when a human from being born till they grow up, many input and opinions sculpted by their parents, teachers, friends and etc. But the great sculptor should be themselves. No one can shape oneself other than themselves.

Only For Me, the latest single from Gigi Yim which is composed by J. Arie Lui. This is the second song after Little Magic from the same composer. This time the genre is R&B.

The MV is off the Gothic theme is something dark that Gigi have not done before. The melody of the chorus it very catchy that the tune will be looping in your head in no time. I personally love the bridge part which showcases Gigi's Legato.

Fun fact is that this song was sang live during Gigi Yim's Gi-FORCE concert on 7th October 20233 before the song was released to digital platforms on the 9th.

This is a second song by the talented Kaitlyn Lam which not only composed the melody but wrote the lyrics too. This time the style is more to R&B which is a totally different style from her debut single N.F.T. which is to a more funk style.

From her interview during the making of this MV, Kaitlyn said that this song came up when she sees that many strangers looking at her in the street. Besides telling about strangers looking at her, she also said that it can be lovers or friends looking at each other.

I like the arrangement done by JNY Beatz and Kaitlyn is able to carry this chill R&B style. Looking forward to more of her creations in the future.

The latest song from Hong Kong up and coming female singer Yumi Chung. This song is a break from her three previous songs which were more on to dance track.

This song titled "The Next Summer Vacation" is about her daily life as student and singer. It also talks about her countdown to the high school exam in Hong Kong (DSE) that she will be facing next year in 2024.

The song has a kind of a LoFi and chill vibe giving me a kind of easy listening feel. I like the strumming of the guitar in this song. Yumi's vocal is different from her previous three songs and the range is at her sweet spot which is mid-high. Unlike "Wanna be close to U" or "Y2k is right for me?" which very high. Not to say that she couldn't hit the high notes, it is just that the high note is not the best for her voice.

Hello blog. Yes. It's been quite some time I didn't do any new posting on this blog of mine. I have been lazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Here's some photos from my trip to St. Petersburg, Russia last year.

Lunch is nice in my company's factory canteen. The carb here is actually buckwheat, which is in season last year March. Thankfully it's not too cold. Just around -1 - 1 degree Celsius. I was warned by my Russian colleague that in 2012 it went as cold as -15 degree Celsius.

I went to a restaurant specialize in pelmeni (Russian dumpling) the last night I was there. I ordered fillings with beef, chicken liver and salmon. I guessed every culture has their own kind of dumpling dish.

I've never experienced snow before and I thought I could experienced it during my two weeks stay in St. Petersburg but it turned out to be one for warmest March in decade. Lucky for me on the day for me to fly back to KL, it snowed!

Alright. That's all for now. I want to continue playing Magic Duels. Yes, I've taken up the game of Magic the Gathering again where I played briefly when I was in form 5. I promised to post more photos of my St. Petersburg trip in my next post. See ya!

My Favourite Clothing is T-Shirt!

I only buy clothes once or twice a year and it's mainly for working attire like long sleeves shirts and slacks. There is one particular type of clothing that I buy almost every quarterly. That's because I wore this type of clothing everyday and at almost any time if the occasion is suitable.

Yes. You are right. My favourite clothing that I wear everyday is t-shirt. I wore it when I go out for a movie, I wore it when I am meeting my friends, I wore it while working out and I wore it when I sleep too. It's convenient and comfortable.

It's easy to match t-shirt with any other clothing. I can wear it with jeans, khakis, shorts and etc. My favourite style is t-shirt, khakis and sandals, so comfortable and yet not too sloppy. T-shirt also can comes in diffrent colours and prints. I love those t-shirt with a clever quote or picture. Also, prints of my favourite anime or cartoon character or special kind of prints that is collaborating with well known designer/artist/comic blogger.

Of course, being a man, shopping is not my forte and going out to a mall to buy t-shirt is a rare occasion. Thank goodness for the invention of Internet and online shopping. Where I can browse the different kind of t-shirts without stepping a foot out of my house. Best of all, I can even compare the pricing of a few online shops to find the best deal.

Their simple but safe procedures are definitely going to make you feel that you are having the best online retail therapy on their website. Volkswagen Jetta Is Now More Affordable!

Yes. You read that correctly. If you've been wanting to own a segment C German car but was not about the high pricing for above RM 150K then now this is good news for you. Volkswagen Jetta will now cause RM 21K less than previously. It's now selling at RM 130,888 instead of RM 151,888.

Simon Loasby, Director of Design, Volkswagen Group China shared the design principle adopted by the Volkswagen design team.

How can that be? Oh, well. It is because it is now German-engineered, Malaysian-assembled, which will takes away the 30% import duty charged by the government in the fully imported version. There is only a slight different between the two version. The Malaysian-assembled version doesn't have the paddle shift but offers a new RCD 320 radio.

Here is the full details of the Jetta:

Engine and Performance
A car that truly inspires confidence with its power and poise, the Jetta combines a 1.4l twin-charged direct petrol injection TSI engine with a 7-speed direct shift gearbox that gives an impressive output of 160PS and a torque of 240Nm between 1,500 to 4,500rpm – making it amongst the most powerful vehicles in its segment.

The only car in its segment with a 7-speed gearbox, this sedan is also able to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 8.3 seconds and capable in reaching a top speed of 221kph – further underlining its athletic credentials. Despite its sporty performance, the Jetta features a combined fuel consumption of approximately 6.0l/100 km (16.7 km per litre) on a Euro 5 emission standard, making it the segment class-leader in fuel efficiency and emissions.

Enhanced entertainment features
The Jetta’s entertainment features have been carefully selected for the Malaysian market. Presenting Malaysians an extensive range of connectivity options, this elegant sedan is installed with the new RCD320 radio with multiple connectivity options such as Bluetooth, SD-card slot, USB with iPod interface and AUX-In. This multi-function display comes with multi-language support and its audio system is further supplemented with 6 sound quality speakers.

Safety Features
Safety features are of utmost importance in the Jetta. Equipped with dual front airbags with front passenger airbag deactivation, dual front side airbags and curtain airbags for front and rear passengers; Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA) as well as hill-hold control and rain sensor is installed in the Jetta. The locally assembled Jetta also comes with safety-optimized front head restraints and child seat anchorage points (ISOFIX system).

Interior
Inside the Jetta, there is an assortment of aesthetic and functional features such as a multi-function leather steering wheel complemented with leather gearshift knob and handbrake lever, as well as ‘Black Pyramids’ decorative inserts for dashboard and door trim panel. The functional interior features of the Jetta includes auto-dimming rear view mirror, cruise control, auto power windows for all four doors, glove compartment with cooling functions and a generous 510 litres of trunk space.

As far as driver and passenger comfort is concerned, the Jetta is furnished with ‘Sienna’ fabric seat upholstery, height adjustable front seats, 60/40 foldable rear seats, adjustable front armrest and rear armrest as well as a ‘Climatronic’ automatic air conditioning system with 2-zone temperature control and rear air-con vents.

Exterior
The Jetta truly encompasses the Volkswagen design DNA, featuring dynamic design lines that truly bring out the essence of this sedan. Fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome grille and twin exhaust tailpipes, the car is further kitted with front and rear fog lights, in case of fog. Its halogen headlights comes with automatic headlight activation with ‘Leaving Home’ and manual ‘Coming Home’ functions and exterior mirror with environment lighting to assist drivers in dark area. The sedan is also equipped with Park Distance Control (PDC) for front and rear, and electrically adjustable exterior mirror for driver convenience especially during parking.

The Jetta is available in four colour choices: Candy White, Platinum Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black. The German-engineered, Malaysian-assembled Jetta will be available for booking at all Volkswagen dealerships in Peninsular Malaysia from 2 May at the compelling price of RM 130,888.

Well, technically it is your idea for a mobile app. Have you ever faced a scenario where you would have wished someone has written a mobile app for that? Back in the heyday before mobile phone turned smart, I always have this frustration of having a tune playing in my head but can't seems to remember what song it is. Nowadays, one can easily find out what song is that by just humming the tune to mobile app like Shazam or SoundHound.

There are two phase for this initiative. There first phase is Ideation Challenge, which is happening from 27 November 2013 till 18 January 2014. This phase is where you and I will be able to submit an idea for the app that you think will be able to help you when using your smartphone. If your idea is finalized as the top 4 idea, you'll win RM 5,000 and a smartphone. Not only that, top 4 ideas will be chosen to be developed in the App Development Challenge phase starting from 24 January 2014 till 24 April 2014. This is the phase your idea comes to life.

First, login with either you Twitter, Facebook or Google Plus account.

After that, filled in some of your personal detail. Name as per in your MYKAD not your nickname because if you win you need to proof that you are the contestant, right? Unless you've changed your name in your MYKAD to your nickname.

Step 3, write out your mobile app idea. You don't have to write a thesis, just simple straight to the point. Get your creative juice running.

By the way, there are four categories you can choose from. Be sure to choose carefully which category your app belongs to.

Finally, click "Submit" to submit your idea. You can submit more than one idea.

The Grand Launching of Artsphere 20/8ty at The Atmosphere, Seri Kembangan

So about two weeks ago something fun and artistic was launched in Seri Kembangan. What is it? Yes, you've guess it right. It's the grand launching of Artsphere 20/8ty at The Atmosphere, Seri Kembangan.

So what is Arstsphere 20/8ty? The thematic concept `Artsphere 20/8ty’ pays tribute to the 20 talented artists, whose 80 pieces of mural artwork adorn the vicinity, making `The Atmosphere’ the single location with the highest collection of mural art in Malaysia. And these are 3D masterpieces that will interact with onlookers. `The Atmosphere’ team has organized a frenzy of activities for visitors giving them not only a chance to strike their best pose with the artworks, and they also have other activities such as Christmas carols, Mimes, Stilt Walkers, Juggler, street dancers, clowns and street magic. In addition to selfies with the art works on the walls and floors, a Polaroid Photographer will be available at the event ensuring that you leave with a memento in Polaroid form too!

Simon Says Turned 6, 3 Days Ago!

OMG. I forgot about my blog's birthday. It all started way back in 27th December 2007. Sorry blog, I've not been very actively posting new post this year. Hopefully I'll get my writing engine a boost next year. Oh, well better late than never. Happy Birthday!

So far, this blog has achieved more than 1.1 million of page views. Nothing to shout about if compared to other popular blogs that easily achieve this number in a month if not week. It took Simon Says 6 years, well it's quite an accomplishment for me.

On a personal note, I was able to achieved my 2013 new year resolution that I've set for myself, which is to slim down. My Triglyceride level came down from a dangerous level during my body checkup two years ago to normal level when I did my body check early this month. I was able to shed about 15KG worth of body fat. I started in February with a weight of 95.6KG and now maintaining at a weight of about 80KG.

I've not time to create a new header yet. Maybe I'll do one in the New Year 2014. You can read about my previous blog birthday posts here.

Sector Focused Career Fair - Shared Services and Outsourcing

Did you know that last week Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) hosted a Sector Focus Career Fair (SFCF) today at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM). SFCF UiTM was a joint effort between TalentCorp, Graduan, MDeC and UiTM. The focus areas for the fair were Shared Services and Outsourcing (SSO).

I myself am working in Shared Services and Outsourcing industry, which specialized in IT SSO. Previously I was working in Hewlett-Packard (HP), which has an IT SSO business unit. We work for HP but are supporting the IT infrastructure of our customers that outsourced part or all their IT infrastructure to HP to minimize their IT cost.

Two years ago I left HP and joined JT International (JTI) as a Data Center Operation Analyst. In JTI, my department is somewhat like a shared services that supports JTI's data center infrastructure around the globe. My department doesn't only support Malaysia. The different between working is HP and JTI is that the former is serving external customers while the latter is supporting internal customers.

SSO is a growing industry and there are a lot of demand. Malaysia seems to be one of the choice for Multi National Company to set up at SSO hub such as Global IT Services or Global Finance Services or Global Business Services. Yes, SSO is not limited to IT services.

The companies also have the opportunity to educate the public about industry developments, sectoral branding and increase understanding of the SSO sector.

The two-day event included Career Talks and Couch Corner Slot. If Your Plan A Failed, There's Always Plan B

There was one time colleague A asked another colleague B during lunch time, where to go for lunch? So, colleague B replied,"We are going for Plan B.". Colleague A then asked,"So where are we going for plan B? I didn't know we have a plan A". Hahaha. Colleague A didn't know Plan B is the name of the place that he's going to eat in.

Joke aside. Last week, thanks to Nuffnang's interest group #NNTasteBuddies, I got to taste a variety of food from Plan B that I haven't tried before. There are just so many choices in the menu. We went to have a food review session in Plan B, Bangsar Village. Henry, Mai Sarah, Saimatkong and Jun Zheng were there too.

Now let's starts with the coffee. Plan B has their own blend of roasted coffee, which I found is quite nice. I had Flat White and later an Australian Iced Coffee.

A scoop of vanila ice-cream in the iced coffee. Nice. I don't even have to put in the syrup.

Now let's eat!

Avo Quino is kind of of dish that one will order for breakfast and it's vegetarian food.

Avocado and poached eggs? My kind of thing.

We were told that one of their more popular pasta dish is the Asian-Style Soft-shell crab spaghettini. This a kind of a fusion dish. Rich butter sauce covered the spaghettini and a tinge of curry leaves. Yums. Recommended to be shared if not it will be too jelak.

Looking for pasta with more greens? Look no further. We tried the Arugula Pesto Spaghettini with seafood (please not the seafood is optional). Aroma of pine nuts from the pesto sauce is nice. Pasta is cooked al dente.

In between the heavy stuffs, we added something refreshing like the Som Tam Crab salad, which is green papaya salad. BIG Group's marketing people love it.

Nasi Lemak Goreng is a combination of two of our all time favourite mamak food, nasi lemak and nasi goreng kampung. I like the sourish sambal, it's so appetizing.

Going for some tea time snack? One can opt for Spicy Fish Tacos. To me not very spicy at all. Fish is cooked just right. Sweet potato fries as side is something not normally found but it's the norm for Plan B.

Not a fan of fish? Why not go for the Char-Grilled Kimchi Chicken Burger? Burger is tender but I will like the kimchi to be a little bit more sourish.

Oh, Plan B just revamped their menu, some of the food we tried are new in the menu. They took out my favourite Ox Tongue Sandwich :(

Now the mother of all comfort food must be the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Crispy skin and the meat still juicy and tender. It's so sinfully good.

Now even though we are quite full already, we still make rooms for dessert. The Coconut Cake is nice.

But the Apple Sugee Cake is awesome! Warm apple sugee cake eaten with the cold vanilla ice-cream is da bomb. I think it will paired very well with coffee.

Genting's Halloween Horror Spirits 2 Starts Today!

Officially started last Saturday on the 19th of October which was somewhat like a warm up. Today, 24th of October will be the starts of 4 consecutive days of Genting's Halloween Horror Spirits 2 which will ends on the 27th. I happened to be able to go for the warm up on 19th, which is last Saturday.

Two years ago I went to Hong Kong for the Halloween themed night entry of Ocean Park and Disneyland HK. Which was quite an experience. This year, I didn't get a chance to go overseas so I went up to Genting Highland to try out their Halloween Horror Spirits 2.

Let the journey begin.

Traveling to the entrance of the attraction alone is quite eery because we have to go through some dark alley.

Haunted Playground

An abandoned playground with spirits wandering there. Take a picture with the spirits, if you dare.

I wondered what will happened if I don't stay away from the swing.

Prison Freak

Passing through Old Shanghai, one will find Prison Freak. One of the two horror houses that is available. Pretty much you'll be going through a prison that has not so friendly people lockup in there. Please don't freakout if you find some of them not properly locked. Muahahaha.

Here, we are only allowed in group by group. So, some waiting is needed.

City of Walker

You can skipped Prison Freak and go on to the City of Walker. This place is crowded with zombies.

Some freak accident happened?

Meet the walkers.

There will be dance performance too every half-an-hour. If you are lucky, you might be able to catch the zombies attacking the police.

Ghost Village (猛鬼村)

After coming in from Haunted Playground, you'll see this sign. Turn left to Old Shanghai and turn right to Ghost Village. We turned left to Old Shanghai first, hence we need to go all the way to the other side to go to Ghost Village.

I was a bit disappointed with Ghost Village. Is that it?

Kisah Rumah Puaka

After passing through Ghost Village, we've came to our final haunting. Kisah Rumah Puaka. This is of course Malay themed horror house.

In here you'll find Hantu Bungkus. Was there a Pontianak too? Just be careful of the bomoh there!

P.S. I am basically quite immune to the haunted houses, so the scary rating I put here is for those brave people, add 1 or 2 more points to the rating if you are a timid person :p
