SBC - 011 and SBC - 012 ::: the new world (cd) and prelude to the new world (book)

::: SBC - 011 and SBC - 012 at long last simple box construction presents THE NEW WORLD full length cd and PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD hand-bound book of photos. in essence this is two releases in one that are meant to compliment each other. the premium quality taiyo yuden cdr was printed in-house and features just under an hour worth of music. the book was also entirely printed and stamped in house and features 22 photographs and stamped artwork. both are limited to an edition of hand numbered 150 copies and are entirely hand made. each copy includes both items with corresponding edition numbers. all art work, photos, design and layout by simple box construction/ a death cinematic. preview the album in its entirety here.

::: SBC - 011 THE NEW WORLD (cd) and packaging. this release was recorded between winter 2009 and fall 2010. all sounds improvised from guitar, amp, and effects pedals. the monologue was recorded by Matt Finney and arranged by a death cinematic. THE NEW WORLD text was written and read by Matt Finney. PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD text which makes up the track titles was written by a death cinematic. each printed cd comes in a brown, hand printed envelope. the cd and book come in a hand made balsa wood and western red cedar veneer box/ gatefold. the covers consists of heavy weight printing paper with hand printed text and images, housed in a hand made vellum slip sleeve. all covers and vellum sleeves were cut and scored by hand and printed at the simple box construction studio. more detail images can be viewed in the simple box construction album for this release. for reviews of this release please go here.

::: SBC - 012 (book). this is a small format hand made version of a previously released very limited larger book of the same title (SBC - 013). all the pages were scored, folded and cut by hand, printed on bright white paper and stitched together. the horse stamp was drawn and designed by simple box construction and is based on a drawing entitled THOU ART THE HOPES SLAIN BY THE HANDS OF OUR ENTERPRISE. each page in the book was hand stamped. the stamping process ultimately destroyed the stamp as with each page the stamp was altered and cut away. each book is hand-bound in acid free brown charcoal paper and black linen tape. all the covers were also hand cut and stamped. more detail images can be viewed in the simple box construction album for this release.

::: this is the new year. perhaps a year to end all years, if you subscribe to that sort of thing. regardless of what may come there is some very exciting things happening now.

::: there are several outstanding orders of older releases that will be shipping this week, my apologies for the delay. in the next week or so the pre orders and promos for THE NEW WORLD will begin to ship. the official release date for the album is january 31st, so there is still time to take advantage of the pre order. this release has also been subject to numerous delays and i'm sorry to have kept everyone waiting.

::: to make up for the delay here is the full video for the title track to THE NEW WORLD. this video was written directed and edited by U.K. musician and filmmaker, frederick lloyd. it is an honor to be a part of frederick's growing body of outstanding work. this track also features matt finney, of heinali and matt finney, reading one of his poems. the only way to hear this before the album comes out is to watch the video. enjoy. ::: a lot has been happening around here. several a death cinematic releases are now available (see the rundown below). some form simple box construction, some from the labels and simple box and some only from the other labels.

::: a lot of progress has been made on THE NEW WORLD cover and PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD book fabrication. it should be out shortly and there is still time to pre order it. to all those that have done so already, thank you. see below some photos of the progress the rest can be seen here.

::: originally this update was going to start with the announcement of a new a death cinematic and matt finney project called APORIA. there was even going to be a track or two up today but that is not how the universe will have it. i regret to have to say that APORIA is on hold, at least for now. there are personal issues that have to be worked out before we can move forward with this project. we hope to be able to get this going real soon. our apologies to all the people who showed us early support we will try to make it up to you all.

::: in other news. the split with ekca liena, PRETERNATURAL should be released next week on small doses records. simple box construction will only have a handfull of copies here for sale. european fans should try to contact ekca liena for some copies but my understanding is that most of them, if not all, are already spoken for. of course you will also be able to get a copy from small doses records. there will be a full write up and images of the packaging as well as streaming information here once the split becomes available. you can read the first review of this split here.

::: the pre orders for THE NEW WORLD will be up in the next couple of weeks. the cover fabrication has proved to be more involved then originally planned but it is all coming together. this album features matt's writing and reading on the title track which will be a fitting preview for what might come from APORIA. as work is being finished on THE NEW WORLD simple box construction would like to announce the next a death cinematic full length album called ....THE BIRDS OF DEATH.... this album is being mixed now and hopefully will be out by years end.

::: SBC - 015 simple box construction presents the a death cinematic cd ep, YOUR FATE TWISTING, EPIC IN ITS CRUSHING MOMENTS. the premium quality taiyo yuden cdr was printed in-house and features just over a half hour worth of music. this release is limited to only 50 hand numbered copies and comes in a completely hand made gate fold case. preview the ep in its entirety here.

::: the cover consists of an in-house printed, hand cut and folded, card stock gatefold coated in polyurethane. interior panels feature a high quality premium photo paper print of the gallows drawing framed in a shellac coated red gum veneer. the lower panel is a hand punched and printed chipboard cd sleeve. the release comes with a poem which accompanies IN THE TUMBLING DAWN LIGHT, THEIR EYES FALL FROZEN THROUGH THE MIST AND RAIN and was typed on a vintage manual typewriter, it includes typos and other corrected mistakes. not all poem sheets look the same. the sheets are hand made japanese kozo paper. the paper was manufactured from scratch by simple box construction. the second item is a set of 3 water slide decals of the skull and cross bones drawing. printed in-house the set comes in a hand made vellum and shellac coated red gum veneer sleeve. the decals are not stickers! to use please read the instructions on the back of the carrying sleeve. you can see some examples where the decals can be used in the pictures. if the decal is applied to a mug or other dish-ware please be advised that it is not dishwasher safe. more detail images can be viewed in the simple box construction album for this release. for reviews of this release please go here.

::: a quick update on the YOUR FATE TWISTING, EPIC IN ITS CRUSHING MOMENTS ep. the first batch of pre orders has been sent out. thank you all for the leap of faith and support. and my apologies for any and all delays. this ep will be officially released on july 3, 2011 which means that the pre orders will end in the next few days. this is the last chance to get the ep at the pre order price.

::: there are a couple of extras that are now included with this release. first is a poem typed on handmade japanese kozo paper. the paper was made by me from scratch, from beating the plant fibers into pulp, to pulling and forming the sheets. the poem which accompanies IN THE TUMBLING DAWN LIGHT, THEIR EYES FALL FROZEN THROUGH THE MIST AND RAIN was typed on a vintage manual typewriter and it includes typos and other corrected mistakes. not all poem sheets look the same.

::: a long over due update for the new year. let us begin with the progress on the studio. it is done and the move is almost complete. now all that remains is the daunting task of unpacking and organizing everything. below are some images of the new space, the first of which is the door to the studio. thank you vinyl cutters.

::: also, simple box construction from now on will only be using tayio yuden cdrs for its releases. these seem to be the best that are available and since all the releases will be limited to 200 copies or less, it only makes sense to put them on the best cdrs out there.

::: there are also two compilations coming out of chile which include two tracks from the new a death cinematic album, THE NEW WORLD. the first track from the album, WHEN THE SUN SETTLES INTO THE HORIZON, WE REMEMBER OUR RIVERS, will be available from funerart. the second track, MOUNTAINS CHOKED WITH SMOKE, RELEASE THE TREES DOWN THEIR HILLSIDES, will be from sirs. all the links will be provided as soon as i have them.

::: now for the new releases. a death cinematic and ekca liena have completed a split called PRETERNATURAL and it is slated to be out soon on small doses records. 7 tracks total with an hour worth of brand new music. the first 3 tracks are by ekca liena and the final 4 tracks are by a death cinematic. the artwork is being finalized and this should be out real soon.
::: the split with great falls on dead accents is finally coming to completion. after 3 long years it is slated to come out mid february.
::: the YOUR FATE TWISTING, EPIC IN ITS CRUSHING MOMENTS single will no longer be out on lo-bango sound. instead simple box construction will be putting it out in a limited edition of 50 with a bonus full version of IN THE TUMBLING DAWN LIGHT, THEIR EYES FALL FROZEN THROUGH THE MIST AND RAIN. the artwork is almost done, it will include a hand made covers and all the trimmings. more details coming real soon.
::: THE NEW WORLD and the small hand bound book, PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD is moving into full production mode. the album is mastered, sequenced and ready to be burned. the artwork is in development and this release should be available shortly. a more definite date will be given as we get closer to completing the fabrication of the covers. there might also be a video accompanying the title track for the album.

SBC - 013 ::: prelude to the new world (book)

::: SBC - 013 simple box construction presents a book of photos by a death cinematic titled, PRELUDE TO THE NEW WOLRD. this book is a large format version of the book that will accompany the forthcoming a death cinematic album, THE NEW WORLD. this is a collection of 22 black and white photos comprised to represent the themes of the new album. a small hand numbered and very limited edition of 8, with only 7 available to the public, is an effort to raise funds to put out the new album. in this version and edition each book includes a drawing titled THOU ART THE HOPES SLAIN BY THE HANDS OF OUR ENTERPRISE (pictured below) that is housed in a small handmade and hand printed paper pouch in the back of the book.

::: the book is professionally printed and bound in a soft full color cover and is 7" x 9". each book includes a small drawing and each drawing is of the same subject matter. the drawing measures 6" x 7 1/2" and is drawn on an old painting. each drawing is unique and made with a variety of materials. some detailed production photos can be viewed here.

::: because of the nature of each drawing there are small differences between the 8 drawings. preference will be first come first serve. pictured below are all the drawings with their corresponding edition number. those who order first will have first choice in what drawing they prefer. i will try and keep the availability of each book and drawing updated here but those who order should list preferences in descending order. an email will be sent to each buyer letting them know what number they received.

::: here is the long overdue update for simple box construction and a death cinematic. there are a lot of things happening and hopefully soon some of these projects will be completed. first is the construction of the studio. the framing is done and the insulation and drywall will start going up as soon as the electrician finishes running the wires. below are a few photos of the progress.

::: SBC - 013 this is a professionally printed larger format of the book PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD. there are only 7 available. the book is approximately 7" x 9" and it includes all the same images that will be in the book that will accompany the cd. it does NOT feature the hand stamped image. instead each book will come with a drawing of the white mare shot through with an arrow. sketches for the drawing and the book are pictured below. each drawing is drawn on a small piece of an old painting on paper measuring 6" x 7 1/2". this small edition was conceived in order to raise some funds for the next a death cinematic release. once all the drawings are done this book will be available through the simple box construction shop on this site. i cannot accept trades for this release. check back for ordering info or it you wish to reserve a copy.

::: simple box construction is moving! from the attic to the basement. the past couple of months have been rather difficult and this update is long over due. the simple box construction workshop and hq is relocating to a new space (pictured below) which has to be finished. as the preparations of the space and the move are underway all projects for SBC have been temporarily put on hold. nonetheless, there has been a lot of activity on new releases and existing projects and by the end of spring simple box construction will, hopefully, be in full production mode.

::: SBC - 009 the split with sons of alpha centauri has been getting some decent reviews and has sold really well. simple box construction has no copies left and the sons have only a handful. if you are looking for a copy better contact them fast here.

::: SBC - 006, SBC - 008, and SBC - 010 are all on hold due to the move and construction mentioned above. i apologize for the delay and hope to have them all available toward the end of spring, beginning of summer.

::: work has begun on the new a death cinematic full length SBC - 011, titled THE NEW WORLD. this album has grown from a small collaborative single to a full album which will include a small hand bound book of photographs SBC - 012, titled PRELUDE TO THE NEW WORLD. the album spans five tracks and over 40 minuets. the first four tracks are a prelude to the title track which features matt finney of finneyerkes reading a story he has written. more details to come soon.

SBC - 009 ::: sons of alpha centauri/ a death cinematic split (cdr)

::: SBC - 009 simple box construction is proud to present the split release between sons of alpha centauri and a death cinematic. officially available january 21st, 2010. after prolonged delays, this truly collaborative effort, is now completed. it offers nearly an hour of post apocalyptic reverie in three tracks. each artist is represented by almost half an hour of music. the cd artwork, pressing, and post card printing was taken care of by the sons of alpha centauri. simple box construction was responsible for the cd cover artwork, design and fabrication. each artist also designed a postcard which were professionally printed and are included with each copy of the release. limited to an edition of 80 with only 30 copies available to the public from each artist. for reviews of this release please go here.

::: the cover is completely hand made and consists of a manipulated chipboard gatefold sleeve and ropey cherry veneer. each cover and veneer was cut by hand, fitted and held together with black charcoal paper. the outside text and outside and inside images were printed in full color by hand. the text inside was typeset and hand stamped on each half of the cover. for more detailed images go to the simple box construction album for this release.

::: SBC - 009 the sons of alpha centauri/ a death cinematic split is unfortunately delayed again. although there has been a lot of progress made, the covers are taking forever since they are almost entirely handmade. the plan is to have this thing out by no later then the middle of january. everything is done except for the covers. the biggest change is that now the split is an edition of 80 with only 60 available for sale. half (30) will be available from sons of alpha centauri and the other half will be available from here, simple box construction. this release has truly become a collaboration with sons of alpha centauri and simple box construction splitting different responsibilities of the manufacturing and production aspects. complete details on this release will be available soon.

::: the pocket change records sampler is no longer available from simple box construction. if you desire a copy i recommend going to pocket change records to see if they have any left.
