Instead, make tiny changes, and try to enforce them each and everyday. Start off small. In most cases, people reflect back pn the previous year, and with a surge of energy, ambition and gusto, they decide to make an empty promise of changing for the New Year. Remember, you can accomplish anything in life, however do not bite off more than you can chew, remember also to stay true to yourself, make small steps towards enlightenment, success and most importantly happiness. Her Fingers Orchestrate Her Dreams: Voice of the People Correspondent George Jones Interviews Upcoming Songwriter F.reelance

Joining us today on Life and Style Union, we have up-and-coming songwriter, Freelance. Born and raised in California but now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina, F.reelance’s determination and readiness to excel in the industry, radiates throughout her skin. At the young age of 22, F.reelance made it known that her dream of becoming a professional songwriter will shortly become a reality. Welcome to Life and Style Union F.reelance, let’s get started…

George: When did you first start writing songs?

F.reelance: If I can remember right, I first started writing when I was 10 years old.

George: Do you remember the first piece you’ve written? Was it a poem to a grade school crush? (Smiling)

F.reelance: I know I’m not that old lol but I honestly don’t remember the first piece I wrote...sorry couldnt tell you. (laughing) and no it wasn’t a poem to a grade school crush..maybe if it was I would remember it lol.

George: Has there ever been a time where your dream was differed in anyway? If so, how did you get back on track?

F.reelance: As far as I know, no....my dreams have been the same; I just let certain people stop me for a while. I got back on track by realizing I can no longer live my life for those that won’t support me anyway and been writing ever since.

George: Being a songwriter, is there a specific genre you cater to? Or are you well rounded?

F.reelance: I usually cater my music to R&B, but it doesn’t really matter to me...I just choose R&B because that’s what I mainly listen to. But, what I write can be for any genre, I don’t discriminate.

George: Where do you get the inspiration to write such songs?

F.reelance: I have actually a few people that inspire me. For one I have my siblings because they support me with what I want to do. They are the only ones that have lived with me and I write about certain things that have happened. Secondly, the inspiration comes from myself because I write about things that have happened to me, mistakes I've made and so on....etc...Last but not least, my BIGGEST inspiration comes from a lady im talking to. She pushes me to do my best, matter of fact, better than what I know I can do. It really gets on my nerves but I thank her for it.

George: What is your most recent work and can you tell us about it?

F.reelance: Literally this morning I finished one of my songs called 'Thank You'. It’s not your typical thank you song. It’s focused on those that aren’t supportive of me and what I do; I’m just thanking them because they've made me stronger.

George: Who in today’s industry do you feel would be the ideal candidate for you to write a song?

F.reelance: (Pause) I haven’t really thought about it. But I would write a song to an entertainer that has been through just as much as I have and probably more things than I could experience in my life. I have a couple people in mind but I’m not sure because I really don’t know them and I don’t want to make a song for someone that isn’t true.

George: In light of your era being the early 90s, how do you feel music has changed from that time period, to the new millenium?

F.reelance: Honestly, I think the music that was played in the 90's rules [over] what’s played today. Don’t get me wrong, there are alot of good songs out there, I just think 90s music was better because it focused on I say, real things. Don’t take this as an insult, because like I said there are alot of artists who do make good music I enjoy.

George: Besides yourself, who do you feel is the most talented songwriter out today?

F.reelance: I have to say Ne-Yo because he writes about things people can relate to in life. I’m not saying all the other artists aren’t like that because they are.

George: Where will we see F.reelance in the next five years?

F.reelance: I see myself as a successful songwriter and producer. Enough said.

George: Before I let you get back to writing more unique ballads(smiling), can you leave us with a word or two for those who aspire to become the future heavy hitter songwriters in the industry?

F.reelance: Never give up on your dreams.

Secret Shoperias Nestled in NYC: Reveal #1

My lovelies...
As promised, I am divulging one spot in NYC, adorned with high-end designer clothing and accessories. Check out El Mundo, located on Valentine avenue in the Fordham Road section of the Boogie Down, Bronx. I was doing my normal run of "antiquing" in the historical Bronx, and decided to get some varnish for the newly bought 1910 French headboard I scored...Of course, I was in the area and saw this giant store which resembled the classic "99 Cents" joint- (Urban dwellers should know what I'm talking about *smiles*). In my head "this store should have the varnish," so I walk in, and am I taken by surprise? Yes indeed. A whole swarm of people diving in big brown boxes- what in the world could these folks be looking for? Well what do you know, a cute Spanish lady throws a Kate Spade purse up in the air "Tu quieres mami"..."Of course I want this." (SMILING) Took it to the cashier along with my varnish...grand total- $4.25!
A joke? I kid you not. Kate Spade cow-hide clutch for less than my table shine...wow $1.25.
I had to look in the box for myself and to my surprise, Juicy Couture Boxes, 10 of them to be exact!

AF: Thanks so much for stopping by to chat Blanca. How’s life treating you?

Blanca Lopez: Hi Ashleigh! Im great. I have love and its a beautiful thing..

AF: I remember watching Candy Girls on E!, like the reality TV junkie I am, and I was particularly drawn to the personality, Blanca Lopez. You have this no-nonsense persona, and you appear to march to the beat of your own drum. Is this all a part of the TV personality , or is this the real mccoy Blanca Lopez, naked of the Hollywood spotlight?

Blanca Lopez: Yes indeed I do march to the beat of my own drum I don't disagree with that.

AF: Candy Girls viewers all across the nation were entertained by your alter-ego Feniix; you seemed to drink a lot under this guise. Are there any other traits of your alter-ego not captured on camera?

Blanca Lopez: I never wanted to show Feniix but the producers loved it and I'm glad I did because Feniix has fans from what I hear (smiling)... seems like a lot of people relate to having that other side of them. Sometimes when I drink I become another person not all the time though... it usually has to do with Patron that thing is deadly. But the cameras didn't really get to see how crazy Feniix can get at times, but that is a good thing.. (smiling)

AF: I suppose so, but we all really want to see how "luda" Feniix can get (smiling).How did you create the name Feniix in the first place?

Blanca Lopez: A friend of mine has a daughter named Phoenix and I thought it was cute but I switched mine up to Feniix. I thought it was so unique that she named her [daughter] that. I felt it had a nice ring to it for me as well (laughing) I didn't want to name my other side something regular it had to stand out and be fun.

AF: I dig that. Blanca, on the show, you and Danielle Crawley (head of Bella Agency), did not seem to get along. Where and when did it all go wrong?

Blanca Lopez: At first we didn't get along because of he said she said gossip in Hollywood it all was a miss-understanding... we decided to set our differences aside and work together. She got to know me, I got to know her so its all good now.

AF: That's totally fab to hear. However, my question is, was this “feud” designed for ratings or was it a real situation?

Blanca Lopez: It was a real feud we didn't like each other at the time ... They cut out the more interesting version when we got into a real ugly argument. They just showed [everyone] a snippet.

AF: Do you both have an amicable relationship now?

Blanca Lopez: Yes we have grown to have love for one another.

AF: Cool. When did you decide to pursue modeling as a career?

Blanca Lopez: When I was 5 [years of age] my mom took me to a fashion show in Mexico. I was in awe and I told her I want[ed] to be one of those!

AF: Did you intend to be a video model? By the way, what videos have you appeared in?

Blanca Lopez: No. I intended to be an actress but I don't see anything wrong with doing videos as long as they are classy and make you look fabulous. AF: What is it like working for Bella Agency?

Blanca Lopez: One word fun.

AF: Do you find competition within the group of models signed to Bella Agency- you, Terricka Cason, Brooke Bailey, and Olivia Jones?

Blanca Lopez: Well, we all have different looks and different talents so no I dont think so. When we all don't get to work together we still support when one of us gets hired, we are a team.

AF: A zillion people want to know if Candy Girls is up for a second season(including me.) What’s the 411?

Blanca Lopez: For now my lips have to be sealed...Sorry I'm going to have to leave you with the suspense.

AF: Alright, fair enough...well, any future projects in the works for you?

Blanca Lopez: Well I recently appeared in a sketch comedy with actor/comedian Mike Epps called "Funny Bidness," I have a calendar coming out, I'm planning on opening a boutique in my hometown Tucson Arizona in the next year .. daytime shows, movies .. the sky is the limit.. here's the link to Mike Epps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7mUmv6ul6c

AF: As a model, what are some of the things you do to stay in shape? Any fitness 101? Fill us in…

Blanca Lopez: I eat healthy but I also love food (smiling). I'm not the best adviser for staying in shape Ineed to get in the gym and discipline myself (laughing).

AF: Don't we all..I cannot recall the last time I really worked out (laughing). To all the aspiring models out there in the world, what can you say to them regarding the industry? Is it the famed “cut-throat” arena?

Blanca Lopez: Follow your dreams and everything is not as easy as it seems, its a race out here and also a roller coaster ride.. ups, downs you just go through so much you never know whats going to happen but I am a firm believer that if you work hard anything can happen you have to believe in yourself. "You are what you think about all day long" R.Schuller [said], and what ever it is you want to do in life try to be the best you can be. Never do anything just to do it.

AJA: I NEVER GREW UP THINKING I WANTED TO BE A SINGER, I JUST ALWAYS SANG AND WROTE SONGS... MUSIC IS JUST A PART OF ME THAT COMES NATURAL LIKE WALKING AND TALKING... I DID MUSIC BECAUSE IT MADE ME FEEL GOOD, SLOWLY PEOPLE BEGAN TO TAKE NOTICE AND THAT IS HOW MY MUSIC CAREER DEVELOPED INTO WHAT IT IS NOW... AJA: I WAS IN DRAG~ON'S VIDEO, DMX VIDEO... NO MTV, VH1, OR BET YET.

AF: I listened to your track collab with the beautiful EVE. How was it working with one of the most dynamic and lyrically blessed female hip hop artists in the country?

AJA: SHE MAKES YA BRING YA A GAME... SHE'S A VERY HARD WORKER...SHE IS SO FUN AND OUT~GOING... SHE WAS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH AND I AM TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE MET HER AND WORKED WITH HER!!! LOVE YA EVE!!!

AF: Have you worked with any other mainstream artists and/or producers?

AF: I think you and Andre 3000 would make a mean track in the studio;both of you are so diverse and bring a different flavor to mainstream music on the ?whole. Do you concur

AJA: OH HELL TO THE YES!!! I LOVE ANDRE... HIS MUSIC IS GREAT!!! I THINK THAT WOULD BE ONE OF MY BEST COLLABS EVER... I FIND A LOT OF SIMILARITIES BETWEEN US... HE SEEMS LIKE HE JUST ENJOYS MAKING GOOD SOULFUL MUSIC AND HE FOLLOWS HIS OWN GUT INSTINCTS AND FEELINGS JUST LIKE I DO...

AF: How have your life experiences molded you into the individual you are presently?

FROM BEING A SEXUALLY ASSAULTED TEEN, TEEN PREGNANCY, HAVING A CHILD DIE AND COME BACK TO LIFE, DEATH OF LOVED ONE'S, BEING POOR, BEING RICH, FALLING IN LOVE, FALLING OUT OF LOVE, SELF ESTEEM ISSUES, FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, BEING IN JAIL, DOMESTIC ABUSE, DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY AND MUCH MUCH MORE... I AM LIVING PROOF THAT LIFE GOES ON!!! THAT YOU CAN KEEP A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AFTER ALL THE BULLS**T... I SMILE BECAUSE I AM TRULY HAPPY... I SING BECAUSE I AM HAPPY!!! AJA:CHILDREN ARE EVERYTHING TO ME!!! ALL CHILDREN... I AM WORKING HARD TO GET TO A POINT IN LIFE WHERE I CAN GIVE TO YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS THAT NEED HELP... THAT IS A MAJOR GOAL... AT THE TIME I AM NOT FINANCIALLY WEALTHY BUT I CAN GIVE MY TIME AND LOVE TO ANY~ONE WHO MAY NEED ME... Breaking News: Death of DJ AM

DJ AM has been found in his NYC apartment at 5:20pm unresponsive. There were drugs in the apartment so cops and detectives are estimating those to be participants in his death. In September of 2008, DJ AM, Adam Goldestein survived a fatal plane crash in South Carolina, where he and his partner Travis Barker from Blink 182 were severely burned from the crash fires. Less than a year later, his life has been taken away. One of the world's best DJ's ...let's remember him for his zeal for life,booming personality, vibrant persona, his talent and pure mastery of the vinyl discs.
Remember people, life is extremely short. Take the time to live each day as if it were your last. RIP DJ AM

The Ja’dore Fashion Show: Arts for Progress Charity Event was a great success. Turnout was great, food was a little shaky, but the collections from the up and coming fashion designers significantly made up for the dry burger patties and burnt pickles. The event was held at club BLVD - located on Bowery street in NYC- showcasing some of the tri-state area’s most fabulous and talent fresh designers. Overall, theme of the collections presented- urban meets runway vogue. The Fabric Twinz definitely caught my attention as their fashion sense captured the essence of the word “ORIGINALITY.” The beautiful mosaic of colors jumped right off the fabric and into my orbs. A billion dollars in the style bucket for sure. Fabric Twinz took some time out of their busy schedules to talk with Life and Style Union…

Ashleigh:
Recently, at the Ja’dore Fashion Show, I spotted your unique designs and literally desired to snatch the clothes right off the models! The colors used were so vibrant, and the patterns, totally eclectic. What ignites your creativity?

The Fabric Twinz:
Everything from movies and paintings to different countries we are inspired by alot of different things its all about observing your surroundings....

Ashleigh:
How long have you guys been fashion designing?

The Fabric Twinz:
Tanise has been designing for about a year and a half and I've been designing and sketching since the age of 12 but we've been working together as a designer duo for about a year.

Ashleigh:
I noticed most of your collections consisted of female apparel. Do you have male collections as well?

The Fabric Twinz:
We are actually working on our mens collection now so stay tuned.

Ashleigh:
How did the brand “Fabric Twinz” arise?

The Fabric Twinz:
The first time we went out with matching fabrics was on June. 23, 2008 but we just thought it would be cool to do for Erica's 21st B-day but then a couple of months after that we went to the fabric store to buy some fabric and we just ended up getting the same fabric, we made our own outfits to go out to the club and then we just continued to do it like 2-3 times a week and people started to notice.

Ashleigh:
Where are you guys from?

The Bronx,NY

We love thrift shops especially the ones in New Jersey and Deleware because of the quality clothing that you can get for so cheap and ofcourse H&M thats all we really wear besides our own designs.

Ashleigh:
Do you design plus-size clothing? If not, why?

The Fabric Twinz:
Not now but ofcourse we will in the future because we have alot of family and friends that are plus size and we see how hard it is for plus size women to find things that fit well.

Ashleigh:
Fall is right up on our heels, and winter will be here in the blink of an eye. What can LSU readers anticipate from your Fall/Winter collections?

The Fabric Twinz:
There will be alot of great dresses and outfits that can be worn during the holiday season and what we will always have is classic peices as well as trendy peices so there will be something for everybody.

Ashleigh:

A nice mini-dress with a Sweet heart top and a flare bottom, the sweet heart neck line is great for woman with small breast it also shows off your shoulders and makes your upper body look longer. The flare at the bottom of the dress hides the excess fat around your mid-section and the shortness of the dress shows off your long legs. when you have long legs you either have to wear dress very short, knee length or to the floor nothing in between.

Straight from the Czech Republic, Prielozny has made his stamp on American soil, taking the health and fitness industry by storm. Ladies enjoy the view, gentlemen take note, as Life and Style Union grants exclusive access to Czech and NYC adonis, Petr Prielozny. Welcome to Life and Style Union Petr. LSU hopes you can give us a full scope on how you achieved your Greek-warrior physique, as well as how you managed to voyage beyond European soil, and claim your piece of the American pie, at such a young age- 22, had to shout you out (smiling)! Let’s begin…

Ashleigh:
Petr, when did you come to America, and what did you desire to do once you got there?

Petr:
I arrived in the USA in January 09 with one single goal. Live an American dream. American dream for me means that I wanted to win bodybuilding contests, become a known fitness model and also try some acting jobs.

Ashleigh:
How was your transition from the Czech Republic to the United States?

Petr:
I was getting reading for this transition over two years so I knew I had to keep a strong mind. It’s not easy to leave your family and all your friends and begin in a totallynew world for you, using second language, getting new job, preparing for contest alone.

Ashleigh:
Who and/or what inspired you to become a body builder?

Petr:
As a teenager I loved watching the movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger who was best bodybuilding in 80'. I got very inspired with his physique but also with his story and straight going mind. I realized I am similar and every goal I want achieve I really achieve.

Ashleigh:
What are the most pertinent elements to maintaining your physique?

Petr:
The most important factors in bodybuilders life are correct nutrition, hard workout and strong dedication. Nutrition for ripped body, workout for muscle mass and dedication for keeping both previous factors on 100%.

Ashleigh:
In the junior body building championship, based on what criterion do the judges derive at the championship winner?

Petr:
I would like to correct you, by age I am still junior but I am already competing in adult men divisions to make it harder for me. The judges watch for several things: muscle separation, condition, symmetry, vascularity, presentation on stage, posing, charisma.If you have all this, you can fight and win against more massive guys.

Ashleigh:
Considering how competitive the fitness industry is, how do you keep your body intact?

Petr:
I am very scared of any injury because it would slow or stop my sport career so I have to be very careful. Honestly I skip all other sports to prevent injury, also stretching and warm up before each workout is very important so your muscles get ready for hard work.

Ashleigh:
In your experience, have you encountered individuals who used anabolic and synthetic steroids?

Petr:
I must say for protection of bodybuilding that anabolic steroids are necessary part of bodybuilding preparation. Top bodybuilders use this pharmaceutics for preventing the joint, muscle injuries. But this is in every high level sport. The public want to see best results, faster sprinters, stronger power lifters, taller basketball players and also more massive bodybuilders. The point is it’s their profession. If they don’t succeed they don’t earn money for bills, family etc. If you are high level sportsmen and it’s your profession, you have to be the best.

Ashleigh:
Have you ever used performance enhancers during the course of your fitness career?

Petr:
I compete on high level of bodybuilding and this is nesseccary part of sport on high level.

Ashleigh:
Have you ever been pressured to use these steroids?

Petr:
I would never do anything under the pressure of anybody else. All I do is my own desicions and I am the only one responsible for them.

Ashleigh:
Have you had plastic-surgery to sculpt your body?

Petr:
No, I never had plastic surgery to sculpt my body but its great compliment from you. (laugh). Every detail on my body is hours and hours of big dedication,determination and hard work.

Ashleigh:
Before entering the bodybuilding competition, does each competitor undergo heavy screening for drugs, steroids, etc?

Petr:
There is many different federations on the world. Some of them does drug testing, some of them doesnt test. My own opinion is there should be only non testing federations because all high sport is about great results and every competitor is responsible for himself.

Ashleigh:
How many times does a competitor undergo screening processes?

Petr:
If you are in tested organization, it depends on level you are. Some competitors are tester once a year, some of them are tested once in 2 months. Tests are quite expensive so its not as easy to afford too much test.

Ashleigh:
For LSU readers who trying to lose weight and maintain their newfounded physiques, what fitness 101 can you share with them?

Petr:
Keep correct diet, its all about caloric intake. Count how many calories a day you eat and then you know this is your day limit. You should stay under your limit. If you add enough of sport activites you will get first results very fast.

Ashleigh:
A normal day of fitness training consists of…

Petr:
Depending on your level, you should do 60 minutes wourkout in the gym, then about 20-40 minutes of cardion. 3-4 times a week and you will be in great shape.

Ashleigh:
When did you decide to pursue sports modeling?

Petr:
Sport modeling is just a "side girl'' for me.. Bodybuilding gives me good looking physique and my face isnt bad as well. Since I heard i should try it, I did it and got great results.I am covered with several best US agencies all over the states. I have exclusive contracts and I shoot with industry hottest photographers.

Ashleigh:
Are you signed to any agencies? If so, which agencies?

Petr:
For east coast I have three agencies, Silver Models (NY area), NorthAmericanBodies (NY, FL) and All American Guys ( FL and whole East coast).For west coast I have only one but the best agency with best mananger. It is NorCalBodz and I am proud to represent them.

Ashleigh:
As a strong man competitor, what type of physical training did you do to prepare for the competition? Is it less, the same, or more intense than the training done for the bodybuilding championship?

Petr:
Well, I always tried strongman competitions just for fun again only as a "side girl''. I didnt change to preparation, I am naturaly very strong and with bodybuilding training I get even stronger. But you are right, if I would decide to fully focuse on strongman competitions, then I would have to change the workout and preparation totally.

Ashleigh:
What feats did you perform during the strong man competition?

Petr:
Since this were an amateur contests, we had less disciplines. Tire flips (550lbs tire) I fliped it 16 times in 2 minutes.Car pulling ( 2500lbs) 60 meters in 30 secondsRun with dumbbells (150lbs dumbbells).

Ashleigh:
Did you win the competition? If not, why?

Petr:
I win in my sport, I didnt win in different sport. I placed 13th from 30 adult guys. I was 19 years old.

Ashleigh:
What advice can you give readers all around the globe, who want to pursue fitness careers?

Petr:
Its not easy to be succesfull in fitness industry, but if you trust in yourself, just try it and do your best. Thank you Ashleigh for [this] interview with me.

I am writing to you because I am in a total dilemma! Recently, I celebrated my one year anniversary with my girl "Haley." She's the love of my life. But I have my eyes on this guy at the crematory who I sincerely have a crush on. Let's call this guy "Xavier." Xavier and I want to chill, and I know something will happen, as in we will end up kissing. That's it of course. Mind you, I go away to school oversease in less than two weeks. Should I just oust the love fire within me and be faithful to my girl- afterall I do leave for school in England pretty soon- or should I cheat? This question is blunt, but I really want your opinion.

Quite honestly, I don't think you belong in a relationship at this time. You do not seem to take commitment seriously at all. You stated that you recently celebrated your one year anniversary with your girlfriend. Yet, you desire someone else. Really think about whether or not you want to maintain your current steady relationship with "Haley." If not, break off ties with her because it is totally unfair to cheat on someone who you profess to love. Note that "Xavier" is just a fling. Are you willing to throw away your established relationship for momentary personal gratification?
Also, you mentioned that you are going away to school in England. There would be no purpose in trying to do something with "Xavier," when you won't even be around him in the first place- not as if he will stick around and be faithful to you while you are in England, knowing full well that you cheated on your long-term partner with him. Whatever seeds you sow in the soil of the universe, you will reap tenfold. The law of Karma is nothing less than accurate. Ultimately, you know the answer to your own question. Some time ago, I was watching Tyra and the topic of the day was Mantrums. If you didn't see the episode, youtube it!
In any event, mankind has now introduced a new word to the pseudo-Webster's Dictionary; Mantrums- the misconduct and disorderly behavior of an adult male, usually associated with frequent outburts, temper tantrums, fist throwing, bucket kicking, the whole nine yards of disaster.... My eyes grew large when I saw this grown man kick over a pile of laundry because he did not have his own way. Amazing indeed!
Is it possible that these men have undegone emotional instability during childhood? What do you guys think causes "Mantrums?" Mental handicap of mere "bad boy attitude? Leave your comments below...

Fellas, Life and Style Union beckons your input on this steamy topic. Neyo and Jamie Foxx introduced a fresh concept to mainstream culture with their duet smash hit "She Got Her Own." Both artists collabed to celebrate the independent woman in society. All that is good and gravy; as a matter of fact, it is about time that the seal inhibiting social and economic mobility for women, be broken, and true acknowledgement of the female work ethic and societal contribution, be diffused among us Earthlings... However, does this song, serve as a medium to reinforce the modern sentiment that women should not expect any financial gaining from their partners because they should "have their own?" Think.

While this may be true, the traditional roles of the male figure should not in any way, be obscured with the current trend - females wearing the pants. The male is the provider..."he is the doe increaser..the care taker" as Heather Headly musically bellowed in her 2002 album release "This is Who I Am," (p.s...where is she anyway??)Why is it that we are now in an age where ladies are paying their own way through dinners and movies, and they aren't even going solo? Unacceptable.

The new term for the majority of women who do seek a man who is financially secure is "gold digger." Kanye West resurrected that word from the cavern when he launched his jam "Gold Digger" featuring none other than Jamie Foxx back in 05. What is the purpose of the term Gold Digger? Is it to attach a negative connotation to a female who wants her man to be a man? Is it to alleviate a man of his responsibilities within a committed relationship- paying the bills? Spending cash on his Dulcinea? Wining and dining? Hello! Those are the bells and whistles of courtship!

Some of these rap artists glorify this term, but the question is: How can you even use sex and gold digger in the same song? Let's get down and dirty LSU... Ever heard of the bunny ranch? What about those high profile escorts who have Wall street money bandits falling over like leeches? Do you think their services are free? Not in the least; we're talking about Lambos with the cherry red interior, five carat Rolex gifts, black diamonds by the barrel! Now gentlemen, let us rewind shall we and focus on the beautiful girl next door on Elm street who you date. Is it totally inconceivable for her to want diamonds and pearls...or to be treated like the lovely goddess she is? Wait a minute, don't even entertain the idea that money doesn't mean everything. We all know that common phrase to be partially true wherein we cannot carry money to the grave. However, in all other contexts linked to life as we know it, money is number one. To further validate this perspective, let's analyze the present times- we are in economic pillage because of money. The divorce rate is highest in the US, and guess why? Because of the almighty mean green! Point made.

LSU had the opportunity to catch up with this blossoming fashion synthesizer Mimi, and get the inside scoop on her career and what we can expect from her collections in the future.
Ashleigh:

Greetings Mimi, thank you for being here on Life and Style Union and sharing your unique story with us. LSU wants to know more about you as a fashion designer, so let’s get to the gusto!When did you become aware of your talent and keen eye for fashion?

Mimi:

Well.......I've always had a love for fashion. I can remember outfits that my mother used to wear when I was a little girl, like four years old! From as early as I can remember, I enjoyed getting dressed up. I was quite the "girly" little girl .

Ashleigh:

Why do you have such a love for fashion and style?

Mimi:

I think I have a love for fashion and style because I adore art. Any form of expression really whether it's poetry, painting, graffiti (legal), tattoos......it's all good to me. Most importantly, I love fashion because it's wearable art. People live their life in clothes and to be able to have people wearing my art is a dream come true!

Ashleigh:

What inspires your textile creations?

Mimi:

My inspiration comes from three places: memories of my childhood, the cities I've lived in and the WONDERFUL era of the 1940s and early 50s! I incorporate these three elements in all of my designs as much as possible.

Ashleigh:
Who do you appeal to mostly in the design and feel of your clothing?

Mimi:
Ladies that want comfort, style and sex appeal. One thing I always strive to do is create garments that you feel comfortable wearing.

Ashleigh:
Do your collections cater to diverse shapes and sizes of the NYC masses?

Mimi:
Oh most definitely! I have been on both sides of the fence physically so I believe that I know what women want. Regardless if you're a size 2 or a 20, you should feel confident and sexy in the clothing you wear.

Ashleigh:
Have you every considered being a contestant on the hip Bravo reality show Project Runway?

Mimi:
LOL! I would love to. I've been told to submit and try out for it. Maybe next year though. It's a fantastic show and a wonderful opportunity! When I go, I want to be able to BRING IT!

Ashleigh:
Does your fashion sense defy all common trends within the popular fashion community, or do you flow with the styles and patterns produced by other designers?

Mimi:
Um, both plus one more. I don't like to follow trends alot and that's not how I dress myself. Some pieces are fab and are great to wear nowadays, however I'm a true believer in STAPLES. Every woman should have a great pair of jeans, pencil skirt, classic white shirt, little black dress, cardigian, so on and so forth.

Ashleigh:
As a Black woman and fashion designer in New Jersey/NYC, have you encountered obstacles and/or conflicts with other fashion designers or the industry in general?

Mimi:
Not with other designers as of yet, thank goodness! So far, so good. I'm meeting a lot of new designers that are trying to make their marks, much like myself, and it seems like right now, we're all trying to follow the "golden rule". I get notice of shows from them or shoots and I do the same for them. The industry...........well............it's very hard to make it in this industry. It's very cut throat. When I first started trying to get into different fashion houses I got no where FAST! It was very discouraging. I cried alot and sometimes I still do. However, I'm a true believer and have faith in God. I know that if this isn't what I am to do, then I wouldn't be able to sew anymore. So I had to hit the pavement harder. I am still stomping (laughing)! Also, that's the reason why I decided to start my own label "FumiDesigns". Now "FumiDesigns" is my focus and I'm trying to get my label off the ground!

Ashleigh:
What is your most favorite self-designed piece out of all your creations?

Mimi:
I think my favorite is a tailored wool jacket.It's cream and white checked with a leopard lining! I think it's bad, yet classic! It took a LOT of hand work and I was very pleased with the outcome.

Ashleigh:
Viewing your collection presented in the Urban Fashion Week event, I observed that you used black and blue hues throughout. Why did you choose black and blue for the female attire?

Mimi:
I decided to design evening and cocktail for that show so I definitely wanted to use the color black. The aqua came into play when I realized that the fabric I had with the fire motif had a light blue hue in it, very close to the aqua I had. So I decided to explore the light and dark throught that collection.

Ashleigh:
As a popular fashion designer in NJ/NYC, have you acquired a large and diverse clientele base? Who are some of your clients? Any celebs rocking your threads?

Mimi:
Large? Not yet, but God willing I'll be there soon (laughing!) Right now, I'm working on a client to client basis. I enjoy this because it's very personal and catering. Hopefully, with my designs being in more fashion shows, I'll be able to reach out to more clientele. And EVERYONE that I design for is a celebrity in my book (laughing!)

Mixing musical elements of various legendary artists, Charvet skillfully brews a soulful, hip hop, urban hardcore concoction for European and international music junkies to enjoy. He has worked with artists in both the United States and France, even winning over the title of "Les Victoires de la Musique" recipient, the French equivalent to the Grammys. Ashleigh:

It's wonderful to have you on Life and Style Union to share your story with our readers and viewers Steve. For starters, how long have you been involved in the music industry?

Steve Charvet:

I've been in the industry since the late 90's 1998 to be exact. My first official music release on disc was in 1998. But, I started producing a year after, 1999.

Ashleigh:

What was the central force behind your decision to pursue a career in music?

Steve Charvet:

I have to say passion. I never really saw it as a career,since music was my best friend, I just viewed it as something I love to do. Fortunately, this passion has transformed itself into a full fledged career in music.

Ashleigh:

How have your life experiences shaped the rhythms and beats created in your music production?

Steve Charvet:

My life experiences shaped my music in every way. Specifically, the music I produce reflects certain experiences and emotions I have endured throughout life. The bad times gave me beautiful inspiration for some dark, intimate music, while the good times manifested itself as upbeat,zesty music. In a nutshell, music was and continues to be, an outlet for me.

Ashleigh:

What genre of music do you focus on? Or have various genres influenced your music?

Steve Charvet:

Myriad genres of music have influenced my musical style. When I was young, my parents listened to a lot of music from Bob Marley to David Bowie. My father is a blues guitarist, so as a kid I would listen to all his record collections- BB King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker,Eric Clapton etc..but i got to say Ashleigh, that I always loved black music from Jazz to Blues to Classic R&B, African Music like Fela Kuti. Unmistakably, the first record I bought myself was Thriller by Michael Jackson,no need to say more...my music reflects these artists.

Ashleigh:

You are a French producer so I must ask this question.Have you ever visited New York City,the mecca of music creation and practice?

Steve Charvet:

Not at all. Seriously, I would love to come to NY.

Ashleigh:

Yes, do make that the next mission on your agenda (laughing.) Well, do you see your music crossing the regional lines of Europe and traveling to the States (USA)?

Steve Charvet:

I started to work with some German artists. I've worked with Hedonis Da Amazon- a female rapper from Philadelphia. I also worked with Swigga, a rapper from the Bronx. Gradually, my music production is extending beyond European soil. In France however, I've had much experience working with artists who rose to stardom in Europe.

Ashleigh:

The music industry is notorious for chewing up potential talents( amateur singers,dancers, & producers) and spitting them out. It’s a very competitive, “dog-eat-dog” arena. Have you in any sense, experienced the harshness of the music industry as a producer?

Steve Charvet:

Of course I experienced that a lot of the time,the truth is that in the music biz most of time you work with people who do not love at all but its like in any kind of work you got to make some [sacrifices] if you want to grow,but sometimes its hard not to have a bad reaction when u are confronted with some people who think they know your music better than you the producer.

Ashleigh:

How did you overcome that obstacle?

Steve Charvet:

By staying focus on the main goal which is making good music (chuckles.)

Ashleigh:

Do you have any future projects in store for France and now NYC?

Steve Charvet:

I’m working on some french artist albums,like I said I will come to NYC soon and extend my network base further, make my impact on the music scene! That is definitely a goal of mine.

Ashleigh:

Absolutely true. What valuable advice can you give to those undiscovered talents out in the world, who have an immortal and burning desire to make it to the top, as a singer and/or producer?

Steve Charvet:

Believe in yourself and work on your differences. Build your own sound and color.

Just to update you guys on the Swine Flu...

Swine Influenza, also called hog flu, H1N1 and pig flu) is common in pig populations throughout the United States. Although human to pig contact does not always result in the transmission of the influenza from pig to human, it has occurred earlier this year. In the United States alone, there have been an approximate record of 350 deaths resulting from Swine Influenza.

The US may have as many as 160 million doses of the Swine Flu vaccine available to the nation's public sometime in October. Of course, major studies have yet to be completed on the swine flu vaccine- in depth research on whether or not the vaccine does in fact work. Therefore a mass distribution of the vaccine will not occur immediately. Scientists still must figure out if an individual requires two shots of the vaccine, or one shot of high dosage to ensure his/her complete immunity to the outbreak. In any event, LSU will keep you updated on the release dates of the vaccine.

Daily Dose of MD: HPV Creates Debate

The Human Papilloma Virus is a papilloma virus which infects the mucous orifices of the subject, that being the vagina, penis, and anus. If left untreated HPV, can lead to cancer of the cervix, vulva, and anus in women. In men, it can lead to anal and penal cancer. This disease is sexually transmitted, which introduces the main issue of this article. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the HPV vaccine Gardasil, proven to guard against four types of HPV- two types which cause cervical cancer and the remaining two which cause genital warts. Gardasil is available for females aged 9-26. Take note of the young age of 9. The truth is that HPV can easily be contracted- it is a sexually transmitted disease. However, contact with any bodily excretions of an HPV infected individual can surely cause HPV. Being that the HPV vaccine Gardasil has become available to women, starting at age 9, much controversy has emerged within the stark conservative community- Does vaccinating 9 year old females for HPV- a sexually transmitted disease- translate into allowance of sexual misconduct among this age group and those slightly older? Similar to the controversial issue of handing out condoms to young children, the HPV vaccine has equally fueled debate.

From one perspective, an individual's medical health should be of chief importance. Therefore, the HPV vaccine should be made available to young females, just as any other vaccine would be administered to the individual in regular "back-to-school" phyical examinations. On the other spectrum, some argue that administering the HPV vaccine to young children (ages 9-15), erodes the relationship between the parent and the child's medical provider ( in other words, the parents' rights and/or authority are limited when it comes to his/her child's health,) and gives consent to sexual "misconduct" and/or risky sexual behaviors among the younger population. What do you think about this issue?

Alpha Male: Bromance- The Virus that Kills A Relationship

To my LSU readers, have you ever heard of the term "Bromance?" Wisegeek.com defines bromance as being a very close friendship between two heterosexual men, classically two single heterosexual men. One individual commented on this article by saying, "Actually I'm a married heterosexual man and I am involved in two bromances. Both of the other men are also heterosexual and married. So it's not always single men involved." This ladies and gentlemen, is the issue I wish to elaborate on in this article. "Bromosexuality", in its purest sense often causes dissention between both partners in a committed relationship. In some cases, the male may spend- as I've stated in recent social networking posts- "every waking moment with their close male friend." This is a definite problem. For one, it causes the woman to feel as if she is not worth the time and attention. Also, it causes the woman to develop a hatred or (for milder words) a strong disliking, for her partner's friend, the individual who seems to have destroyed the bond between she and her boyfriend/husband. Most shocking is that some men jump ship in their relationship, to spend more time with their male friend and to alleviate themselves from the responsibility of treating their woman, like the special diamond she is (frequent calls, visits, outtings, etc.)

In any case, what do you guys think about Bromance? Should their even be a term given to this unbalanced rapport between two heterosexual men? After all, in a way, the term Bromance just serves as a vehicle to sustain the existing behavior between two male friends. Shouldn't every aspect in life be about balance, including relationships?

For all of you who are not familiar with this face, I introduce to you, Sosh B., a talented young man and professional rap artist, seeking to marvel the hiphop generation with his lyrical genius. Born and raised in Southside Jamaica Queens, New York, Sosh B. experienced firsthand the pangs of "hood life," drugs and crime being the backdrop of his childhood environment. Yet, he sought to rise above the status quo, and come out a victorious product of his rough beginnings. His originality and slick lyrical style is real, truely adding a fresh concept to the rap game. This
afternoon, I spoke with Sosh B., to hear his story (not from a secondary source), as well as to get his take on the world of 21st century hip-hop. Take a look at the interview.

Ashleigh:

At what age did you develop fondness for hip-hop?

Sosh B:

I was in baisely park in South Jamaica, Queens and I fell in love with hip hop when I heard "aint no half steppin " by BIG DADDY KANE (park jam). The song gave me chills as I listened to it.

Ashleigh:

In your biography, there is a line most interesting and a cause for

insight “Sosh is the product of the 80s drug-infested ghetto…” – how has your childhood experience, growing up in this seemingly abrasive environment,molded your musical talent? Impacted you as a professional artist?

Sosh B:

I grew up in South Jamaica when the concrete was covered with crack viles and gun shells. People that were "real"close to me ruined their lives by using and selling drugs and that environment molded me into a vivid lyricist.I use my personal experiences in my raps to let people into my world. That era made me into a no nonsense type of individual.

Ashleigh:

Sosh B., your name is really unique. Is there any meaning behind it?

Sosh B:

Yeah Sosh means "So Original So Hood." And its a childhood name that my homie gave to me growing up. I just put my own twist on it. And the "B" stands for bacardi cuz I spit that 151 proof flow. Ya diggggg! (laughing)

Ashleigh:

What record label are you signed to, if any?

Sosh B:

I'm currently working with Versatile Records and we are doing big things. They are pushing me heavy in the streets. I'm their biggest investment and we are about to make the majors come to us with the big money.

Ashleigh:

In your song “Comfortable,” you say “I could smell it, I could tell it’s coming around, don’t be jealous, I got patience, n***** is over-zealous,trying to fly high in a chopper with no propellers.” This verse essentially highlights the universal motto: “Good things come to those who wait.” How long have you been “waiting” to make your big entrance into the mainstream hip-hop world?

Sosh B:

I've been waiting over ten years so I'm the definition of patience is a virtue. I feel I'm currently in a great situation and my time is NOW.

Ashleigh:

For this song “Comfortable,” was there a particular reason why you chose Drake’s track sound “Successful?”

Sosh B:

The main reason was its just a hot track and I wanted to put a spin on it and let people know I can spit with the best of em. And I think I did a

good job at ripping that track to shreds. Tell Drake that track is mine now (laughing.)

Ashleigh:

It is safe to say that you are an “80s baby.” From what you can recall about the rap scene in hip-hop’s golden era, from your perspective how has rap music changed from the 80s to the new millennium 2009?

Sosh B:

In the 80's I was a youngin but the music made me feel good and there was always a message in the lyrics. The 90's was when I knew I wanted to do music, it was so inspirational. I just wanted to freestyle on the corner every night when I heard Wu Tang.However, now the music has changed to more of a business and the creativity is lost in the source. As long as you have a dance to go with ya song there is a chance you will get a deal. And we don't dance in NY like that, we two step unless you're from Harlem. But I'm not knocking the hustle because I am still trying to get my piece of the pie.

Ashleigh:

Have you worked with any artist recognized in today’s mainstream hip-hop community? Who are they?

Sosh B:

Yes, I worked with Grafh, Lil Flip, DJ Envy and my homie Busta Rhymes.

Ashleigh:

In one word, define yourself as an artist.

Sosh B:

Phenom!!!!

Ashleigh:

What can we, avid hip-hop listeners, expect to hear from you in the future

as far as tracks and possible collaborations?

Sosh B:

Well,I have a mixtape out now hosted by DJ Envy and we will be working with Green Latern in the near future. And hopefully a collabo with Red Cafe.

Ashleigh:

What message have you delivered/hope to deliver to today’s youth

population- to Angela who sits up at night in the shelter, writing lyrics compulsively on a few scraps of paper…to Raheem who walks up and down the isles on NYC trains, with a box of candy in his hands, hoping to get enough money tobuy a descent outfit for a hip-hop showcase?

Sosh B:

I would have to say I have been in their shoes a million times over.Do not stop grinding and forcing people to listen to your music. If I haven't stopped and I have gradually gained success they can do the same, if not better. So I repeat do not stop grinding and stay focus.. See it before it happens..make it a reality! A relationship is supposed to be centered on giving and taking. So why do I feel like I'm always giving and not receiving on the other end?

Dear Jasline,

I can best bet that you feel as if you're always giving and not receiving because this is the actual reality- you may be giving too much of yourself in your current relationship. Balance should always be preserved in a relationship; balanced communication, balanced love, balanced perspectives, and most importantly a balance in sharing. Step back from your present mind frame of giving, giving, giving and seek to unearth the reasons for which you may be over-compensating in the relationship. Are you insecure? Do you feel that giving your partner anything he/she wants will strengthen the romantic tie between you both? When you decide to involve yourself in a relationship with someone, it is absolutely essential that you are equipped with "game" or the ins and outs of how to cope with myriad situations you will inevitably encounter in the relationship. Since you're vision right now seems blurred by romance and passion, allow me to drag you back into the "real world." Never over-extend yourself. You are undoubtedly aware of one of the golden rules of a relationship- it's all about balance. Therefore, you equally know that the measure of your giving should parallel that of your partner's giving. This is not a one-way street, both partners should be working as a nuclear unit to promote and strengthen communal happiness and love. Maybe it's time for you to assess this situation and come to the realization that you can never truly change a person or their habits. You complain now about not receiving equal share in the relationship, and trust me you will be complaining about this same thing in the future. You cannot clean a pig and expect it not to run back in the mud...(food for thought.)
