After a prolonged hiatus, PHCG now has a new website.

The new site features updated information and content and will feature
new functionality for consultants, associates and clients.

Also, in the near future we will be adding country specific pages to
make it easier to find information on our operations in Vanuatu and
NZ.

PHCG launches HoniaraSpace

Solomon Islands consulting services firm PHCG Ltd last week launched HoniaraSpace, a new venture providing integrated hosting and event support services in downtown Honiara.

According to PHCG Ltd Operations Director, Dr Morgan Wairiu, HoniaraSpace offers flexible options for training and workshops, consultation meetings and even "turn key" office space over short terms. According to Wairiu, HoniaraSpace offers integrated services such as "data projector, email and web terminals and even meeting recording if required".

The new facility is a joint venture with Systek Ltd and is located at Unit 18 on the 2nd floor of NPF Plaza. In a company press release, Dr Wairiu pointed out the unique convenience of HoniaraSpace: "we are located less than 100meters from Kitano Mendana and 5 minutes walk from King Solomon hotel as well as the same distance from most high commissions and ministries".

PHCG will be using HoniaraSpace to enhance its own capabilities by offering clients a "one stop shop" for consultations and workshops as these are a common feature of development work in Solomon Islands. Wairiu pointed this out when describing the reason for setting up HoniaraSpace:

"Most projects and consultancies involve consultations and workshops, but few local providers are able to host them in-house. So much time is wasted in setting up venues and waiting for people to arrive, that we saw the need to setup our own facility."

Wairiu went on to add that HoniaraSpace was available to the public as a specialised workshop facility offering some functions that remain rare in most Honiara venues:

"As regular organisers of workshops, we have always wished for email terminals in-room, reliable power and data projectors. These basics are never found together in Honiara venues, so we are offering them in HonairaSpace."

HoniaraSpace is also pioneering integrated meeting services in a bid to improve productivity in the development sector in Honiara:

"One other major challenge we have found in Honiara workshops is getting documentation, minutes reporting and proceedings to organisers quickly and efficiently. HoniaraSpace will be offering these to clientsas a contribution to increasing productivity in our capital"

Call for consultants - land management and issues

PHCG is developing a long term focus on land and land issues in Melanesia.

We are therefore interested in making contact with professionals, academics and consultants with experience and qualifications in:

study of land relations and change from a range of perspectives including anthropology, sociology and geography
land administration and legal frameworks
mapping, GIS and information management
indigenous knowledge
community development and participatory approaches

Persons with a strong background in the Pacific are particularly welcome, although this is not a requirement at present.

SI Development Updates to cover large programs

PHCG's coverage of Solomon Islands development issues, SI Development Updates is set to increase its coverage to specific large programs in Solomon Islands. Key amongst these will be the Rural Development Program funded by the EU, World Bank and AusAID, as well as the Education Sector Program funded by the EU and NZAID.

Watch out at SIDU for program coverage later this month.

Call for consultants - canned tuna trade

State of environment report being developed

PHCG is finalising the Solomon Islands State of Environment report for the Minstry of Environment, Conservation and Meteorology. This is the second ever SOEnv report (the first was written in 1993) and the first under the 1998 Environment Act. It will serve as a baseline document for environmental and other policy for the next 3 years.
