class="MsoNormal">I have spent all my life in the pursuit of pleasure. Whatever I do, I end up asking myself " Am I Happy"?; be it 48 hours of non-stop work for assignments, 16 hours of "Call of Duty"(yeah, I completed it in one day) or 6 freaking hours of racketball.

Few months ago, I arrived in USA with lots of hopes and ambitions(that's another interesting topic which will feature in my future topics). For the first few days I was given temporary accommodation at a senior's place. He was my old friend too. So, I had no problems in getting along with him, in fact I had great fun . He used to do the cooking every day, poor chap never asked me for any help. But, one day he asked me if I can cook "Sambhar", because he wanted to eat it and dint know how to cook. I then realized that I had my mom's recipe for Sambhar. I took it out read it carefully and told him all the ingredients required and yeah, then we realized the problem. Many of the ingredients were missing. But we decided to give it a shot. I was very excited because I was cooking something for the first time in my life.

I tried my level best and finally succeeded to get something which looked like sambhar. I asked my friend to taste it. He took a spoonful of it and ate, and started licking the spoon. He liked it, so did I. But the greatest pleasure was seeing the happiness in my friend's face rather than eating the sambhar.

Even now when I cook sambhar/dal in the night and the next day morning I see empty kadai, not even traces of dal left, I feel great. But, I am waiting for the day when I can cook something for my mom and serve it to her with my own hands and that’s when I will have greatest pleasure of cooking.

I am posting the recipe too for those who like Sambhar.
      <>
The ingredients I used are <>
1 cup of dal ( two cups of water for boiling, usually two times the amount of water is taken)
one onion (chopped)

1 cup of mix vegetable( the frozen mix vegetable of Kroger)

two spoons oil

1 spoon sambhar masala

1 spoon chilli powder

1 to 1.5 spoons of salt( I am not sure how much I have put)

two spoons tamarind paste( Find it in Indian store, not necessary though)

dried red chilly(if available)

mustard and jeera

<>

The procedure

First put dal, mix veg, and onions in the pressure cooker and pour 2- 3 glasses of water. Turn it off after 2 whistles. Put two spoons oil in the kadai and put some cumin seeds(Jeera) , mustard seeds, dry chillies in to it. Fry them for one min and then pour the cooked dal mix and then put the tamaring paste. Put 1 spoon full of sambhar masala, chillipowder and salt in to it pour two glasses of water if you like it to be more liquid. Boil it until it turns brownish, orangish etc etc. taste it and add salt if required and that’s it your Sambhar is ready.

If you try my recipe and you like it, please post it here. It's gonna give me some pleasure....:)

I will upload the photos tonight.
