Guidelines for Purchasing Bicycle

Bicycles (also called as cycles or bikes) are being a part of human-civilization, since decades, instead it would be more than a century now, and this machine, having passed the ‘Test of Time’, has proved itself to be useful in numerous circumstances, situations, ways and manners. Since you (the ‘Reader’) have searched for and/or are prepared to know about the subject-matter herein (i.e. ‘Guidelines for purchasing bicycles’), I would instantly, without any prologue hereto get to the fundamentals, while assuming that you are well-acquainted with the advantages of the bicycles, and consequently, inclined to purchase the same, but having confronted with the gigantic varieties of cycles (causing even an highly intellectual mind to be bewildered, especially those, who are going to purchase their first one, or who belong to an era of 1970’s or 1980’s, whereby one had to choose only out of the four/five models of cycles, available in a nearby retail shop), you, skeptically, have either to leave the proceeds of your purchase thereof, or have constrain yourself to leave freshly gained passion towards cycling, or have refrain yourself till you gained ample knowledge thereto for arriving at a final conclusion. If in case, you would have any such scenario or any other likewise one, then I, via this article, would certainly be helpful to you to retrieve yourself from the aforesaid perplexity/ies.

In our voyage to find out which machine would be perfect for us, the first & foremost way-point is to churn & gain an answer from within ourselves qua the purpose for which cycle is going to be used, since this would, by itself, refine our search to a pointed level. In other words, in this modern techno era, where everyone possesses devices/machines providing technology & information for fulfillment of their goals/purposes, similarly, for bicycles also, we have to know our expectations, before even stepping into any shop or initializing to even browse into an online application-cum-shop. For regular consumers, the cycles in this era, are, basically & succinctly, of six different types (enumerated hereinbelow) manufactured & sold for distinct and particular purposes, and as envisaged hereinabove, we have to opt a specie/s from the following ones, in consonance with purposes for which bicycle is going to be used:

Types of Bikes: -

11. Road Bikes: - These are look-alike of ‘professional-sports-bikes’ which run fast and could easily be pushed to long distances. They usually possess drop top-tubes; sleek & less resistant tyres; super light frames and drop handle-bars;

2. Mountain Bikes: As depicted from the name itself, these are meant to move through mud, woods, heavy off-roading, have to manage steeps and need to run over the hills easily, and consequently, they have express resistant-tyres; suspension on front and rear wheels; disc brakes for thorough control, and flat handle-bars;

3. Hybrid Bikes: These bikes are manufactured to couple-up features of the aforesaid two breeds of bikes, to fulfill the demands of other people in the world, likewise the ones who need to use bike of light trailing (off-roading) and regular use on roads/pavements. This type could be further sub-divided into three varieties:

A) Fitness Hybrid: These are somewhat identical to ‘road-bikes’, but these would have flat or a little reclining top-tubes; flat handle-bars; light frames and sleek tyres. This type could go around 20-30 miles on flat road without any discomfort;

B) Dual Sport Hybrid: As the name suggests, these bikes depict an impression as that of a ‘mountain-bikes’, and possess suspension on the front wheels (frequently at rear wheels also); disc brakes, and thicker tyres. These have caliber to bare light-trailing and easily move over pavements, but it would be less speedy than road/fitness bikes, and have to be pushed harder than those;

This should be one of the major factors to opt from the aforesaid types of bikes, but not at all the sole factor to book a purchase, since even if one gets an expensive bike, but in case, the same is not upto the expectations, then it’s nothing more than a scrap, however, in case, one considers the ‘cost’ as a factor only, while purchasing a bike, then one would certainly get a bike which would be in consonance to the expectations, even if it’s cheap one, particularly, when every bike is upgradable, except the frame & fork, for the changed demands by changing tyres, saddle, brakes and/or pedals etc.

For information only:

In India, good bikes, without pre-installed gears, would be available at around 8-10 thousand Rupees and with pre-installed gears, the costs would be around 13-20 thousand Rupees. I hereby would not point-out which is/are the best bike/s currently available in the Indian-markets, rather, I, having furnished you with the requisite intel thereto, leave it up to you to decide the best/suitable for yourself.

Components: -

While proceeding with our voyage, now let’s know about the components of the bikes, deserving the necessary consideration thereto:

A) Gear: This component is the most important one in a cycle, since any trouble with this, has to be repaired by the professionals, otherwise, a cycle would always have an uncertain & troublesome ride. So, before purchasing a bike, consider major brands (viz. ‘Shimano’, Compagnolo, SRAM, Microship, etc.), and more expensive, this component would be lighter, featureful, and smoother-gearshifts a cycle would gain.

A good cycle should have a ‘11/32’ gear-ratio (meaning thereby that lowest gear would have eleven tooth and the largest one would have thirty-two tooth) to ride on hills, otherwise, it would be harder to push, even if ratio is slightly different, likewise in case of ’11/28’ ratio. To ride hills enjoyable and not forceful, one should have extra tooth on the gears.

B) Rear Derailleur: This component is the most necessary for gear system, since it is only this, which shifts chain from one gear to another. So, it must be of good quality for smooth gear-shifting, otherwise, the chances of gear-stuck would increase to an alarming level.

Appositely, it would be necessary to add herein that albeit, the wired derailleurs are issueless, but in some markets wireless rear-derailleur are also available, however, the same have exorbitant price-tags, so it depends upon your finances to opt it.

C) Chain-ring: There are numerous types of chain-rings in the market, but mainly those of only three kinds (i.e. firstly, the sole chain-ring, secondly, the two chain-rings in one component, one would be small and other ring would be larger (as depicted by the figure hereinbelow) and third, would have three chain rings, however, all would have different tooth ratios viz 50:34 (one of the best ratios); 48:32 or 46:30. The purpose of this is to have better acceleration, while converting every magnitude of force from body to cycle-acceleration. The better the ratio, the better the acceleration and it would further help you to push your bike over the hills/mountains.

D) Brakes: The next component requires your consideration is Brakes, these are available in two types: 1) Rim Brakes & 2) Disc Brakes. The disc brakes, although expensive than rim brakes but have much advantages over the rim brakes viz. good for inclination in hill/mountains, more robust; better control in rain, however, if you would ride only in dry and flat surfaces then rim brake are adequate, lighter and inexpensive than discs.

E) Frames: The frame is the chassis of the cycle, and the lighter & stronger the frame the better & prominent effect would be upon the ride. The frame should be of such a quality which could easily bear the regular wear & tear and while bearing those, it should absorb the road bumps etc., without any hitch. The cycles now-a-days are manufactured from steel, (usually used for budget bike), aluminum or aluminum alloys (used for good bike but not for high-end and/or for exorbitant price tags) and carbon fiber (used for professional bike, with exorbitant prices tags). The steel would be the least to absorb those road bumps being the heaviest and the carbon-fiber is the most strongest of them, and could bear anything, however, in case, one can’t bear the exorbitant price tags of carbon-fiber bikes, then most appropriate option would be to buy aluminum frame with carbon-fiber fork, since that would certainly nails every sound/noise, while riding the bike.

Besides, the frame should be designed in such a way that it provides ample wheel clearance, so that in case of change of tyres/wheels, the frame should be able to adapt with it.

F) Rims: Bicycle rims basically comes in only one type for regular user, i.e. spokes rims. And what we have to consider is higher the number of spokes in the rim, better the strength it would have, and second to consider, diameter of the rim, usually it is 26, 27 or 28, but 26 inch would be better would, since there is abundance of such rims size in the market, at least in India.

G) Wheels: Basic bike purchased would come with basic wheels, however, these could be upgraded without any issue, as one gets serious towards pursuing the passion of biking. For info, wider tyres are better, since these provide more grip, and low rolling-resistance.

H) Other Relevant Considerations: firstly, ‘saddle’ – the downy the better, and secondly, pedals, these should be clipless, if travelling for long distances.

Pertinently, I would suggest you to prefer and look for brands with better guarantee/s options, if you are opting for the cycles costing above Rs.13-15k in India.

Solution to ' App Error 523’ of Blackberry Curve

I wish you - A very Happy New Year.

Now, I would like to share my experience, mentioned hereunder, about a Malfunctioned Blackberry device.

Although, last month was truly adventurous, exciting, enjoyable and full of festivals but November wasn't alike, as an accident i.e. malfunctioning of blackberry device, isolated me from this global world.

It was hectic & harassing experience and utterly discouraging process, which I had to bear while fixing my Blackberry device to an operative condition, and forgoing situation has persuaded me to share my experience with you, so that my readers, if face the same error (i.e. App Error 523) on Blackberry Curve, need not to go through those processes, stages and pains as I experienced ignorantly and unnecessarily, especially when Blackberry executives at Blackberry Service Centre at my city, flatly, refused to repair my Blackberry device, without satisfying me about the reason of refusal.

Facts

Actually, the facts are as under:-

In 2009, we purchased a Blackberry device and it was used without installing any new software and/or application for 10-11 months of purchase, it was like using a simple phone instead of a Smartphone, which we had purchased, factually.

In the end of 11^th month of purchase, I loaded Blackberry World into my Blackberry device and in the 12^th month of purchase i.e. last month before the date of expiration of guarantee and/or warranty period, I loaded some applications from the Blackberry World only in my ‘Blackberry Curve 8520 version 4 and for that time, it worked normal as it was and abilities of phone were not effected in any way, but in the immediate subsequent morning, there arose an issue regarding Wi-Fi activation & connecting Curve to my home network via Wi-Fi, which wasn’t really a big issue as it had appeared earlier also and by a simple reset ( a procedure i.e. pop out and re-place the battery back in the phone) impugned issue was solved, but on that day, following the aforesaid procedure( i.e. simple reset) led to a totally different & contradictory result as instead of sorting the error/issue of Wi-Fi, the said procedure evolved a surprising result i.e. 'App Error 523'.

The Error occurred was neither ordinary, usual or normal one nor a single thing to which I was to deal, in fact, its repercussion led to a vicious-circle of restarting the phone and ending again with white screen mentioning ‘App Error 523' in black color and an option i.e. ‘Reset’ in white with black background, and when clicked for a reset, the phone reboots and once again led us to a same white screen displaying the same error with same option, as reproduced hereunder: -

Consequently, I had to face a Vicious Circle of restarting and ending with a white screen and resultantly, a Smartphone phone was placed in equilibrium with Crap and/or waste.

Now what a person like you or me can do? There exists no option, especially when it’s a non-working day or you are in a city where service centre isn’t available, and you direly need that phone. And I was in a similar condition as Blackberry Service Center`s executives had bluntly refused to repair my Blackberry device for the reasons best known to those only, although my device was still within warranty period. So, I tried to find some help from the booklets within purchase-box, then tried to get a reference of a Helpline number both from those booklets & Internet, as usually possessed by Multinational Product Making Companies/Organisations, and when dialled, the found one appeared to be busy and was continued to be as such, for more than four hours. After being failed to get connected, I searched a lot on the Internet for a solution but all my efforts were gone in vain as wasn’t able to find out even a single correct solution and/or clue regarding the issue, in hand.

On the contrary, I was misguided by number of texts & videos available on the Internet stating about the different reasons behind occurrence of same aforesaid error, likewise downloading of a unsupported 3^rd party application/s and the solutions stated thereby was in regard to upgrading of the device to latest available version of Blackberry OS through different procedures, ultimately using Blackberry’s desktop software, but all those solutions did nothing except worsening the situation and wasting my time, while I understand & implement almost all of those available procedures.

After understanding & implementing as delivered no positive outcome, I was totally exhausted & discouraged and thought of getting it fixed through any unauthorised technician, who would be available in the market, in fact, a personal of Blackberry Service Centre and another at Mobile Store – a shop from where I purchased my Blackberry device, advised to do so. But I had some doubts regarding the aforesaid unauthorised technicians, so I dropped that idea.

Thereafter, I visited the Airtel website (may be for the reason that my Blackberry Device had an impression of Airtel logo on it) for some solution of the aforesaid issue. And there I found, after thorough search, an update & latest version of OS (Operating System) for my Blackberry Curve 8520. After being confronted with a page showing a download option for downloading aforesaid latest OS for my device, I was left with no option except to download it. Although I had some hesitations to download the same, but with still having left with some hope to fix the issue, I was facing, on my own, I downloaded it.

USB cable and then opened the said file and tried to fix the phone, but failed. So I decided to give another attempt to achieve the success, as I had some kind of hope which pushed and intuited me that the downloaded file could only be the real cure to my problem and that procedure which I did go through, later, was a correct one, making me surpass the insurmountable issue. The procedure, through which I went and emerged victorious, is mentioned hereunder, which you should adopt while dealing with the same error (i.e. App Error 523’) in relation to Blackberry Curve, to overcome the issue and save your precious time: -

Solution of ‘App Error 523’*

Download a file of a latest versioned Blackberry OS (Operating System) for your curve device, which could be available to you at a website of a Blackberry provider/seller as I had downloaded for my Blackberry Curve 8520 from Airtel website.

Then install the downloaded file into your computer.

After installation, you have to open ‘Program Files’ folder in your computer drive containing OS i.e. Windows XP or Windows Vista. On opening the aforesaid folder, you will find a folder namely ‘Common Flies’ within the said folder and then you have to open that also. Caution: - the concerned procedure is just in relation to Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, as not applied to Microsoft Windows 7 or to earlier ones. If anyone has applied to other windows or any other computer OS(operating system, please inform me about the consequences/repercussions, resulted thereof.

On getting into later folder, you have to trace out a folder namely ‘Research In Motion’ (i.e. company-name, owning Blackberry Brand). Open that folder and then enter into a folder named as ‘AppLoader’, where you will find a file namely ‘Loader’.

Open the above-mentioned file i.e. ‘Loader’. On opening the said file, you will be confronted with a newly emerged window, asking you to click on highlighted switch - ‘NEXT’.

Before clicking the said switch –‘NEXT’, connect your Blackberry Curve to a computer, using USB cable. Caution: - Take care that before connecting your Blackberry with computer, the battery should be removed from the concerned Malfunctioned Blackberry Curve device.

Thereafter, being satisfied about having followed the earlier procedure, properly, click the highlighted button and within the window you’ll observe appearance of a new option, stating name of your Blackberry Device and then you have to plug-in your removed battery into your device and then the ‘Loader’ will automatically load the information relating to your Blackberry Curve into computer, within seconds.

Then again click on ‘NEXT’-button, and as you clicked, you’ll see the software options for your device and a highlighted button -‘NEXT’ again there. Caution: - the former ‘NEXT’-button (not the later one) can be automatically clicked by the ‘Loader’, proceeding itself to next stage, showing you the software options.

Now once again click on the later button –‘NEXT’, and then on button -‘FINISH’ (as will appear after you have clicked on button -“NEXT’).

As you’ll click on button -‘FINISH’, ‘Loader’ will upload new Blackberry OS into your malfunctioned device, and you have to wait until loading/processing is completed.Caution: - Do not interrupt the Loader while it uploads new OS into your Blackberry Malfunctioned Device.

After ‘Loader’ has completed its process, the window before you will disappear and as it disappears, you need to disconnect you device from USB cable (connecting your device with computer).

After disconnection from cable, your device will be restarted and will give finishing-touch to newly uploaded OS into itself, automatically and then the Malfunctioned device would reach to its normal operative conditions with new OS operating in it.

But as far as the consequences are concerned, due to this everything in your device memory (not the data in Memory Card) would be wiped out or deleted, especially contacts & messages, and there is no way to restore the deleted data into your phone, unless a back-up file is lying with your goodself.

*The solution mentioned here is subject to Blackberry Curve 8520, and as far as Blackberry Curve models are concerned, you may apply the same procedure to fix your device (as I/we applied it to another Blackberry device and it works great) at your own risk, but the same solution/procedure wouldn't be a great option in relation to otherwise models of Blackberry Brand than Blackberry Curve.

C7-00 Versus C6-01

Hello friends,
I have heard about new phone of 'Nokia' i.e. C6-01 and there are rumors that this phone is better than 'nokia C7-00'.
So today, I would discuss about the real Comparison between C7-00 and C6-01.

Nokia C7 comes with 3.5 inch screen and C6-01 comes with 3.2 inch screen although with same resolution as of former. C7-00 have 350MB with 8GB mass storage internal memory unlike C6-01 which has only 340MB internal memory. C7-00 have 2 microphones with 'Active-Noise Cancellation' technology, FM transmitter and physically lesser in weight, contrary to C6-01.

So, which would you choose C7-00 or C6-01???

BEST SMARTPHONES IN INDIA

Now-a-days, there are thousands of phones in Indian market but the real QUESTION as faced by many and almost ever purchaser is 'which one is best of all and is available at affordable price???', I would discuss this question only in relation with best and affordable Smartphones in INDIA.

As per INDIAN market, there are some of the phones which deserves to be called as SMARTPHONES, and only few of those became popular & successful thereof, and among those few following Ten Smartphones, warrants our attention: -

1. Blackberry Bold 9700 -This phone exorbitantly costs around Rs 28,000/- and comes with features like Wireless Email, Organizer, Wireless Internet, Camera (MP), Video Recording, BlackBerry® Maps, Media player, Corporate Data Access, GPS; but real Problem with blackberry is requirement of special package for Internet access unlike phones of any other Brand viz. Nokia, another issue with this Brand is its Post-Sale Services which ain't available in number of cities unlike Samsung and Nokia, and the third issue is its complex user interface; but except these issues, Phone meets almost every demand of a businessman.

2. Nokia N900 -This phone costs upto Rs 25,000/- and its features are much more than any other phone in the Market and operates at a real fast speed, so, globally known as Tablet-Phone by Nokia, its a real fast phone with Linux based operating system, but on the other side of coin, the phone is really heavy, doesn't have a capacitative touch Screen, comes with only 65 thousand colors display (unlike N97 mini with 16.7 million colors display) and the operating system is under-developed.

3. Apple iPhone 3GS & 4 - Apple iphone 3GS & 4 is damn exorbitantly priced around Rs 30,000/- to Rs 35,000/- and Rs 40,000/- to Rs 45,000/-, respectively, but the biggest asset of this is gigantic bundle of applications numbering in lacs unleashed by Apple, making the phone to do almost everything and now-a-days, news is that it can also be used as stethoscope by Doctors, isn't it COOL!!! but this phone also have issues likewise 3gs doesn't comes with good camera, and Post-Sale Services are available only in few cities and iphone 4 also suffers from call-drop issues.

4. HTC Desire - This phone has recently been launched in India and with priced tag around Rs 27,000/-, its a great phone with Amoled & Capacitative touch screen, with high speed processor and I don't find anything seriously wrong issue about this phone except its MRP.

5. HTC Legend - This Phone is now being sold around Rs 21,000/-, it was a newer version of HTC Hero, it comes with capacitative touch screen and works with Android 2.1 but other side of this coin is TFT display comes with only 65 thousand colors, possess poor battery Talk-Time and have poor video capabilities.

6. Samsung Wave 8500 - This phone is most affordable of all i.e. around Rs 17,500/- only, comes with new operating system invented by Samsung i.e. BADA, possesses 1-Ghz of processor, good battery life, claims to have Super Amoled screen but its biggest drawback is its newly founded operating system, being not much user friendly and a few applications for the same are available in market.

7. Samsung Galaxy S -This Android 2.1 based phone of Samsung is priced around at Rs 28,000/- and is one of the best phones in the Market, but it would have been better if at this price tag Android 2.2 have had been applied thereat, or update would be supplied to all the owner for free.

8. Motorola Milestone -This Android based Phone by Motorola comes with a priced tag of Rs 25,000, and is still being sold around the same tagged amount. Its has really fast processor and good capacitative touch screen but in India, Motorola has lost its market due to its wrong strategy and so its Post-Sale Services have also been lost from many of the cities, especially Northern part of India. And as still being sold at Rs 25,000/-, Motorola should provide software upgrade for this Phone to Android 2.2, to the least.

9. Nokia N8 -I was waiting for this phone since long, but now I'm disappointed as this is not really a Great phone with True Capacitative Touch Screen like iphone 3gs, speed also disappoints me, although Nokia claims it to be with faster processor; I wonder what Nokia thought while producing this product, was it visioned at producing a good camera phone instead of manufacturing a good smartphone.

10.Nokia C7-00 - This phone is still not released in India, that would be released with Symbian^3 operating system and would possess everything except 12 MP camera, 'push to talk' technology, which N8 possess and I hope Nokia would do something wonderful with this phone at least. By the way, rumors say this Phone would costs around Rs 17,000/-.

Conclusion : -

If you wanna buy a phone within Rs 16,000/- to Rs 22,000/- then wait for sometime as something would be unveiled/released which might meet every demand of yours within an affordable price.
