Diane Meyer. Photographies with embroidered pixels

2013-02-11T18:16:00.002+01:00

This series is based on photographs taken at various points in Diane Meyer's life and arranged by location. Sections of the images have been obscured through a layer of embroidered pixels sewn directly into the photograph. The embroidery deteriorates sections of the original photograph forming a new pixelated layer of the original scene. The project refers to the failures of photography in preserving experience and personal history as well as the means by which photographs become nostalgic objects that obscure objective understandings of the past.

“Time Spent That Might Otherwise Be Forgotten”, It is to simple sight a collection of photographies that would not stand out between great others, since the act of blurring certain parts of a photography is not precisely something innovator. What makes emphasize Diane Meyer's work is his way of taking so personal photographies, reflecting moments and places of his life, and hides the details by means of a rigorous process of seam for every pixel.

Maja Ruznic. Personal portraits

2013-02-10T15:32:00.000+01:00

The following paintings are records of people and events that have left an impact on her, Maja Ruznic. The works observe moments of human frailty that are fictionalized in a mix of memory and imagination. Water based mediums such as ink, watercolor and gouache allows her to explore relationships and notions of intimacy and connectedness. She is drawn to the unpredictable nature of these mediums as well as their possibility for chance.

Relying on the memory of an experience, Maja Ruznic paints what she remember but also what she do not know. Sometimes Maja is drawn to someone’s hands, to one’s rhythm of speech or to one’s constant checking of their cell phone. This interest usually serves as an incentive to begin a painting. In the process, the capricious nature of memory distorts the truth and the painting becomes something else — something in between the actual experience and her recollection of it. The contemplation of the person or the event - through the act of painting- is what is most important. Intrigued by the pyscho-physical relationship between those she meet and herself, Maja try to paint the silent, intangible space between us.

It is a pleasure to see Maja Ruznic painting one of her personal portraits of his latest collection of illustrations, Messengers (2012). Pure visual insipiration. And finally, I would like to say you that visit her website where she collect all her work and you will remember her name because Maja is revolutionizing the illustration world.

Zedd ft. Foxes - Clarity

2013-01-29T15:00:00.000+01:00

One of the most highly anticipated albums of the recent dance music explosion, Clarity is Anton Zaslavski’s magnum opus — a beautifully composed concept album that marks a defining moment in the young producer’s career. Spending time in the studio with the legendary Jimmy Iovine has certainly paid off for Zedd. His sound has matured, developing far beyond the type of music that is suitable for a DJ set. There is much more to Clarity than a simple selection of tracks; there is an undeniable feeling of intent, an intangible sense that Anton has poured himself into every production on the album.

Zedd - Clarity (feat. Foxes)

The title track on Zedd’s first studio album is also the best on the release. Foxes’ emotive vocals steal the show from the go-to electro-siren, Ellie Goulding, who is featured later on “Fall Into The Sky.” Monolithic chord play and a brilliant choral section flourish together to create a jaw-dropping sense of epic-ness. Evocative and beautiful, “Clarity” is poised to be Zedd’s next run-away hit — it is “Spectrum’s” female driven counterpart.

Polaroid Cacher. A contemporary printer

2013-01-25T23:42:00.002+01:00

The Polaroid Cacher is a camera that allows you to take traditional instant pictures of your digital experiences. It’s an ambient device, part physical and part digital, meant to address the fleeting nature of online interactions.

It has been created at Interactive Telecommunications Program by Adrià Navarro and D.I Shin, with the collaboration of Ananya Mukherjee in the concept phase and Marta Augé in the documentation.

Concept

We believe that our daily online activity –conversations, discoveries, games– is as meaningful as our activity in the physical world and, as such, should be preserved the same way we try to capture every important moment in our life. Especially because most of this experiences will be soon forgotten, lost under layers of information, databases and outdated services.

Given the powerful association of instant photography with memories, people and nostalgia –rather than with photographic quality– we designed our camera as a fictional Polaroid product. One that captures digital media in a traditional analog format, as means to create tangible, durable mementos of our digital life.

Design

The camera is composed of two interfaces. The “lens” is a browser plugin that waits for your input. The moment you want to take a picture, it overlays a viewfinder that allows you to frame an area and shoot a picture of it.

The physical interface is an ambient device that requires no interaction from the user. After taking the snapshot, it will “develop” the picture and wirelessly print it, framed like a traditional instant photo. It was built by combining a vintage Polaroid Land Camera and a custom laser cut enclosure, in order to represent the same convergence of analog and digital media that the project is based on.

Other methods have been considered as the input for taking the picture. Using a native application to solve the browser limitation, analyzing the smile from the user to passively decide when to capture the screen, or making the camera a shared object. The possibilities are endless.

Technology

On this first prototype, the browser component is a Chrome extension built in Javascript and CSS, and based on the open source google screen capture.

The extension saves an image file in a specific folder with an associated folder action, which triggers an Applescript based on this code by the great Brendan Dawes.

The script sends the image file via Bluetooth to the Pogo GL10 photo printer inside the case, that finally prints 3×4″ ZINK pictures.
