SPEECHLESS WITH ALL THE PICTURES SEEN ON FACEBOOK. DECEMBER 17, 2011 - A DAY THAT KAGAY-ANONS WILL NEVER FORGET. PRAYERS ARE TERRIBLY NEEDED.

Early December 17, me and my hubby went to the city to check on relatives since we heard news about the city being flooded. We woke up from a terrible heavy rain and strong winds. I thought I heard moans and cries at 1:30 am and prayed the rosary to put me to sleep. As we passed through the new bridge to Rodelsa, we couldn't believe our eyes. Was this Cagayan de Oro City? Houses below the bridge were covered with mud. It's as if the river waters overflowed across the bridge which we could not picture ourselves. The bridge was too high and yet, we found lots of coconut leaves, twigs and garbage that the river waters carried.

Thank God none of our relatives were badly hit but it was spread all over facebook that so many children drowned and people missing. The flood was like a thief in the night. As soon as the rain stopped, that was the time it took its hand over the city.

If you can imagine transformers fighting, that's how parts of our city looks like especially when you pass by the Rotunda in Rodelsa. People in the divisoria area were walking with no slippers or shoes on and they were very muddy. I really imagined the city that day as a Zombieland because they never cared anymore. Big dump trucks and army trucks would pass by bringing in evacuees to City Central School. Is this '2012'? A scenario you can never imagine that could happen in the City of Cagayan de Oro.

I wanted to post pictures from Facebook that caught my eye and was really disheartened with the fact that this truly happened in our place but I think the caption above will benefit us more instead of the heartbreaking scenarios that we spread all over the internet. In my own little way, I hope this will reach a person or two to do what it says: "HELP CAGAYAN DE ORO"

Goodie Box Crafts and Events Management Conducts Free Painting Workshop to ANCOP RayVill's Community

Last June 9, 2011, Goodie Box Crafts and Events Management conducted a free painting workshop to ANCOP RayVill's Community where most of them are housewives.

This was held at RayVill's Compound in West Bound Terminal, Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

The resource person was Ian Lucero, a scholar of Capitol University who had outstanding experiences when it comes to art, creativity, crafts, music, fashion, and other extra curricular activities in school and in the Youth for Christ.

Mrs. Tata Emphasis is the full time volunteer of the Couples for Christ who helps them find ways on how to earn a living and she also teaches little kids in preparation for their formal schooling in the public school.

The activity was started with a prayer.

Mothers carrying their little babies were very welcome during the workshop.

The venue was their Day Care Center and kids come in and out of the activity area...

Cagayan de Oro City Sports Center Caught on Fire

April 12, 2011 - around about 5:30pm, while riding a taxi cab, to send my daughter off to her grandparent's house, we were listening to the news saying that our city Sports Center is on fire. It's the left wing of the grandstand and most of the structure is made of wood. No wonder why the fire ate it up so easily.

This structure has been there for so many years and is literally old. Dry wood burns fast and according to the news, the fire stopped because it was left with nothing more to burn down. A number of fire trucks also ran out of extinguishers from their tanks because the fire covered a big area.

A part of MOGCHS - Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School also burned and a number of equipments, especially computers were not spared where teachers can't enter anymore their classrooms due to the smoke engulfing them.

It's good in a way because this happened during a school summer vacation, so no students were present during the incident, and teachers were able to leave the building immediately. I would not know specifically of the casualties or exact damage, but I think the Governor is scratching his head off since the Palarong Pambansa will be held here this May I think. Tsk! Tsk!

First, some of us survived being born to mothers who did not have an OB-Gyne and drank San Miguel Beer while they carried us. While pregnant, they took cold or cough medicine, ate Linunod, balikutsa, bukhayo and didn't worry about diabetes.

Then after all that trauma, our baby cribs were made of hard wood covered with lead-based paints, ang uban kay duyan nga habol gihigtan ug pisi nga inigtabyog ug kusog ma pakong intawon ta sa bongbong.

We had no soft cushy cribs that play music, no disposable diapers (lampin lang sa General Milling nga naa'y faded picture nga nag-salute), and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, no kneepads, wala pa gyu'y brake ang bisikleta.

As children, we would ride in hot un-airconditioned buses with wooden seats(Bisaya Bus nga pultahan puros ang kilid, Corominas Bus nga senimana ang brake), or cars with no airconditioning & no seat belts (karon kay Minibus na nga nindot kaayo ug sounds or Ceres Bus nga bugnaw ug aircon)

Riding on the back of a carabao on a breezy summer day was considered a treat. (karon, ang mga bata wala na kaila ug Kabaw)

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT bottled mineral water sa Nature Spring or Viva, or Absolute Mineral water (usahay gani, straight from the faucet or poso or Tabay!)

We shared one soft drink bottle with four of our friends, and NO ONE actually died from this. Or contacted hepatitis.

We ate rice with star margarine, bahaw nga gibutangan ug asin ug mantika sa baboy, drank raw eggs straight from the shell, and drank sofdrinks with real sugar in it (dili diet coke or Pepsi Max), but we weren't sick or overweight kay......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, and get back when the streetlights came on. Syatong, Bato-Lata, Bagol, Dakop-Dakop, Tago-Tago, Ngita'gKaka.

No one was able to reach us all day (wala pa'y uso ang cellphone).. And yes, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our wooden trolleys (katong bearing ang ligid) or Karitong Kawayan nga karaang tsinilas ang giporma nga ligid and then ride down the street , wala ma'y gidungog nga naligsan atoh! After hitting the sidewalk or falling into a canal (sewage channel) a few times, we learned to solve the problem ourselves with our bare & dirty hands .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 100 channels on cable, no DVD movies, no surround stereo, no IPOD's, no cell phones, no computers, no Internet, no chat rooms, and no Friendsters or Facebook. ......... ....WE HAD REAL FRIENDS and we went outside to actually talk and play with them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no stupid lawsuits from these accidents. The only rubbing we get is from our friends with the words..sakit bai ? pero kung kontra gani nimo ang imong kadula,,,,singgitan lang dayon ug..Mayra,Gabaan!

We played marbles (jolen) in the dirt , washed our hands just a little and ate Pan Bahug-bahug & Bagumbayan (recycled bread man diay to kay wala mahalin!) We were not afraid of getting germs in our stomachs..

We had to live with homemade guns (giporma nga kahoy, gihigtan ug garter ug lastiko) , saplong , tirador ug uban pa nga pwedeng magkasakitay. Pero lingaw gihapon kaayo ang tanan.

We made up games with sticks ( syatong ), andcans ( Bato-Lata )and although we were told they were dangerous, wala man gyud to'y actual nga nabuta bah, bukol lang nuon sa agtang naa.

We walked, rode bikes, or took tricycles to a friend's house and knocked on the door or batoon ug gagmay nga bato ang bungbong, or just yelled for them to jump out the window!

Mini basketball teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't pass had to learn to deal with the disappointment.Wala pa nang mga childhood depression ug damaged self esteem ek-ek ra na. Ang maglagot, pildi.

Ang mga Ginikanan naa ra sa daplin para motan-aw ra sa duwa sa mga bata, dili para manghilabot ug makig-away sa ubang parents.

That generation of ours has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, creative thinkers and successful professionals ever! They are the CEO's, Engineers, Doctors and Military Generals of today.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had failure, success, and responsibility. We learned from our mistakes the hard way.

You might want to share this with others who've had the luck to grow up as real kids. We were lucky indeed.

And if you like, forward it to your kids too, so they will know how brave their parents were.

It kind of makes you wanna go out and climb a tree, doesn't it?!
