Of course the reasons are obvious

is exhilarating!

And paddling in the cool frothy water

can create a unique sensation for you to experience

But there might be more to it than this

Because the daily heat can be unbearable

as one works in intense tropical air

Homeostasis is certainly a desirable state

as cooling the body to normal temperatures

is a reward for the psyche

and a relief for the body

So whether you decide to contemplate

the enormity and vastness of the sea

it is entirely up to you

But some people experience

a feeling of oneness

whether they are able to articulate it or not

And if it makes you feel closer to God

so be it

It shall be done

But I do not advise that you become overwhelmed

with the idea

Thinking about Ernest, Mariel and Margaux

is not likely to help

So take it easy

No thoughts of mass suicide are likely to emerge

Besides much of this has turned out to be gobbledygook

anyway

Because many of the stories were based

I would say that it might not be the best way

to look at it

Everyone must have a special hobby

And if surfing turns out to be yours

it should not be thought of as anything less than

fine and dandy

So when you are waxing down your surf board

and thinking of the next big wave

Go for it!

Clasp your toes upon the outer edge

and lean your head backward toward the sun

Surfing is a healthy way to enjoy nature

But be careful that you do it right

Many people think that you can simply surf anywhere that there is some kind of a wave. While you can indeed surf any wave, there is so much more to it than that. Knowing and understanding ideal surf conditions is an important aspect of surfing.
Not only will surfing in the correct conditions keep you safe, but it will also maximize the potential for you to catch the best waves possible.

So what does make ideal surf conditions? Well first and foremost we have to look at proper wave formation conditions. There are three main factors that will affect the size of a wave.

Wind Speed - More wind speed equals larger wave.
Wind Direction - The Longer wind blows, the larger the wave will be.
Fetch - The more space/area that wind affects will directly affect the size of a wave.

It may sound crazy, but what most surfers are looking for is a storm. This creates the most optimal waves (in most places at least). Before you get nervous about surfing in storms, a surfer is not particularly looking to surf in the middle of a storm, he/she is looking to surf the waves during a storm's build-up time or the waves directly following a big storm.

After you have taken a peek at wave formation conditions, you need to look at local weather formations. This will most directly effect you. The ideal wind a surfer wants to see is a light wind that is coming from directly offshore. The reason is because that an offshore wind blows from the shore, which smooths out the face of the wave and helps hold the lip of the wave up. This is what most any surfer is looking for.
Finally, we want to look at tides, or tide conditions. Technically speaking, tides can either make or break a sought after surf spot. Many surf spots are only surfable for a couple of hours every day because of the huge tidal range. When the depth of the water below you increases or decreases at too fast of a pace, then waves don't break in the same way. This makes it confusing when a surfer catches a wave, as they may expect the wave to do one thing and it does something totally different. This is why only the best surfers in the world surf waves on a shallow reef, because reefs are very susceptible to this kind of tide movement. Knowing your tide tables is an essential part of learning proper surf conditions.

As ancient archaeology indicates, surfing can be traced back to 1000 BC on Peruvian Pacific coast. Back then, the inhabitants used hollow, buoyant reeds of the Totora plant to construct surfboards, and would glide atop the water, as portrayed in ancient pottery.

In 1769, surfing was first documented in Polynesia by Joseph Banks of the HMS Endeavor during the first voyage of Captain James Cook. In fact, through surfing, you could see the nation's caste system. The rulers of the nation enjoyed the strongest, best boards, on the finest beaches, while commoners were not afforded the luxury of enjoying the same materials and could not use the same beaches. 1. Surfboard: Your board is your best friend; it will take you out to the waves and bring you back riding them in. You express yourself through how you ride your board. Making sure that you pick the right board is essential, when you learn how to surf.

If your board isn't stable or easy to ride, you will be missing waves because you are too early, too late or just not be able to catch any waves. After you wax your board, you want to find the reference point to keep it balanced and keep a mental note to mark it with your chin. You don't want to lean too far forward on your board, so the nose is underwater; this is called "pearling". You need to wiggle your body back down a little so that you're evenly balanced.

2. Paddle Out: The best and really only way to catch waves is by paddling hard when you're going after a wave. Paddling is an essential technique and you need to develop the right amount of strength to propel yourself into the wave. You don't want to paddle with both hands at the same time, you don't get enough propulsion and it will tire you out fast.

What you want to do is reach in one arm at a time making a cup with your hand. As you're doing that you want to rotate your body and open your shoulder and dig in with the other hand. Think of it like throwing a baseball pitch you are basically following the same motions with your upper body.

3. Sit up: Once you've figured out how to balance and paddle on your board, you got to learn how to sit up on your board and wait for the next set. When you first sit up on your board it may be a little wobbly, but with a little practice you'll get the hang of it.

4. Poppin up: This is the most important thing you got to learn. You want to do it quickly, but with style and finesse, you don't want to look like a "Boner". The more in shape or athletic you are the easier it will be. Poppin up or standing on your board can be a little tricky, but you'll get it if you keep practicing.

Don't fall into the habit of Poppin up to your knees, it may work know but it is a bad habit to learn and you will regret it later when you're always just Poppin up to your knees and you'll have to break this habit later on.

Once you've caught your wave and you're lying on your board, you pop up by putting your hands on the side of your surfboard and popping up like you doing a complete push up and then hopping to your feet in one sweeping motion. After you're up try to stay low by bending your knees and keeping your center of balance low.

5. Make a Turn: Once you've caught your first wave and you've popped up and you're riding, you want to make a turn either to the left or the right. You can ride straight in but that's boring. After you catch that wave and your riding you want to lean and turn left or right so you can get a longer ride.

The legendary surf spots of Tahiti, Hawaii and Fiji are known for firing up the imagination of salty surf dogs around the world, but few amateur surfers will ever get to sample their waves. These places really only belong in surf magazine and videos and are the territory of pro surfers on big sponsor budgets, and not the sort of place the average weekend surfer from the UK could afford.

However, there is a land that offers inexpensive living, uncrowned beaches and breaks, consistent surf not to mention great food and friendly locals, and all only a short flight from the UK. It's name? Morocco.

Sat on the very north of the mighty African continent, yet just a short boat ride from the British Territory of Gibraltar, Morocco has some 3500km of coastline with offer surfers a huge choice of breaks. American and Australian surfers were responsible for bringing the sport to Moroccan shores in the 1970s, but it is now largely Europeans looking to escape the cold winter climates and the growing leagues of local Moroccans, who dominate the waves.

There are hundreds of secret spots all down the coast, but some of the better known areas include Banana beach - ideal for beginners; Panaromas - a right hand point break, but with a strong rip current; Hash Point - another right hand point with easy entry from a small sandy beach, Anchor point - a favourite with the locals meaning it can get crowded, and is therefore best suited to intermediate or expert surfers only and Killer Point - named after the fact that occasionally killer whales can be seen there, and is renowned for being one of the best waves in the area. Accommodation in Morocco is available in the form of small hotels, holiday villas or dorm-style hostels, which can be found all long the coastline. Many are specially geared towards surfers, offering secure board storage, wet suit hire and chill out zones.

Western surfers should keep an eye on their bags, as some of the locals will be only too happy to offer their 'baggage carrying' services, in return for a few dollars, especially in busy places like airports and train stations. However, the locals are generally warm, friendly and welcoming.

With little in the way of localism to worry about, more and more European surfers are heading to Morocco to taste African waters for themselves.
