The question is how long will writers remain a suffering class in bollywood. Poor chetan Bhagat had to apologize in the end to end the controversy. He probably decided to end it not because he suddenly realized his mistake or something but because he understood that there is no point. The way Vidhu vinod chopra reacted on questions about bhagat's allegations showed his frustrations as if a child would react when caught cheating. A typical response of child in that situation would be to somehow try to show that whatever he did was not illegal. the book that he was using was just lying there and he does not know where it came from. Similarly chopra acted as if it was not he but bhagat who copied his story. the worst part of this whole episode was how a legend, the most professional person in film industry decided to jump in the fray and defended chopra but obviously being a professional he didn't forget to mention that he has not yet read the novel. Amir khan is from that class of people who believe that it is enough for them to just utter whatever they feel like and rules will change accordingly. he had the guts to question the morality of a writter who has written many bestsellers and is a regular writer of articles in national dailies. Chetan bhagat is a writter who has never written even a single line of controversy in his novels. He is perhaps even better than most people in Bollywood in selling the same stuff in form of novels that bollywood tries to make movies on. It is his this quality bollywood wanted to leverage on. but whatever the controversy may end into both parties ended up being happy as it boosted both the sale of novel as well as box office collection of 3 Idiots.

Whom does Govt. actually provide security to???

IPL has gone abroad thanks to what else but politics. The fact that IPL was much more accommodating than the govt. expected really shocked the government. Lalit Modi had answers for every hurdle that govt. tried to put and ultimately the decision was taken as they usually are in india ie. at a political level. Now, why i blame political class for IPL going out of India is due to a very basic logic. All that i want to know is, what exactly does government mean when they say that security forces will be busy during election. What will security forces be busy in? I guess they will be busy in providing security to politicians and nothing else. Because if this was not true why else a state will decline to hold matches on a day when by default security on that day is supposed to be very tight due to election. If say, we have elections in Delhi on 25 of April then i would suppose that security in Delhi on 25 is supposed to be very tight irrespective of whether there is a IPL match or not and if thats the case then why is security a issue at all. So if we assume that no security wont be there that would mean that security forces will be busy in providing security to only rallies and to those places where political leadership is present. Such a situation means that every school, college and market is actually unsafe during election. Actually i believe security was never an issue and all that the govt. is worried about is politics. I am sure govt. fears that if IPL is allowed some political party will itself try to create security related problems and put the blame on the govt. and hence gain political mileage out of it. We all know how low politics in India can get. Thats the only reason for govt. to be so worried.
<link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://kmehra.blogspot.com/feeds/5456247352389027645/comments/default' title='Post scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="India"/>
INDIAN DEMOCRACY:A Family Drama!!!!!!!

Every state party in India started on a very different and basic ideology which concerned a particular group in India.Leaders like Mulayam singh in UP,Lalu in Bihar,Karunanidhi in Tamilnadu and so many other decided to struggle for rights of people who wanted to be heard in a country where they were very different from many other communities in their needs as well as aspirations. This was a victory for Democracy in India. These were the leaders who rose in spite of their surname and not merely because it.If that was a victory for democracy today democracy in India is in shambles.Democracy here faces a very different challenge.India has not had a leader for last so many years. Those who believe that leaders are made and not born should come to India.Anybody and Everybody who is born in a political family in India is a leader and an election ticket is reserved for him the day he/she is born. There are so many examples today where children of political leaders have joined politics.Sanjay dutt, priya dutt, depender hooda(son of haryana CM),supriya(daughter of sharad pawar),akhilesh(son of mulayam),udhav(son of bal thackrey) and ever green gandhi family heir Rahul gandhi.Perhaps the worst part of this situation is how easy it is for these people to get elected when people like Manmohan singh find it hard to win elections in India and its not because they have good agendas. It is so only because voters in India have pledged their votes to parties no matter who the candidate is as long as he is related in some way or other to the party leader. What good has Sanjay dutt done in his life.He was a drug addict, under trial in criminal activities and has no family values. What can he add to Indian society???We the voters are solely responsible for present state of Indian democracy.First half of us dont bother voting and another half who do vote, dont bother whom they are voting.Even while investing in a company, a person does more research about the company than what he does before voting someone in power. All our leaders make us same promises during elections and follow same policies when in govt.No political party in India has any difference of policy regarding Economy,Corruption,Terrorism,Indo-Pak relations or World Politics. If they are not going to provide anything different to people of India in terms of how and what they want to achieve for India, what right do they have to form different political parties.I think election commission in India should make it a point to make forming a party a little more difficult. If a leader thinks that he doesn't want to join any political party to should be allowed to fight independently and not to form a party.Similarly anybody who has any blood relation to a living(and elected) political leader should not be allowed to contest elections from same party for at least 10 years until and unless the person in question has had a history of public service of note for years.Election Commission must think about some rules on these lines if not exactly the same to save Indian Democracy.

<link over but guess who doesn't like it.Mr. Amitabh Bachan decided that the movie in question presents india in bad color.Anybody who has seen the movie would never say anything like that.Since the movie is not yet realesed in India,i hope Amitabh would not have seen it by now(i hope he doesn't buy pirated copies like me).The fact that there is a good chance that he has not seen the movie makes his criticism more unworthy.Everybody knows the condition of slums in india and as Mr. bachan has put it, if condition of slums is as poor anywhere else too as in India. He should move ahead and make a movie on slums of developed countries.Who stops him.The reality is that he simply doesn't have the guts because that does not make any commercial sense. All movies in his life have been outrightly commercial. What right does he have on lecturing other people in what to make and what not to make.He says that foriegners like India to be presented as poor and thats what sells there.Yes may be thats true but thats what you do here too.Bollywood makes sellable movies(most of them).Slumdog never shows that the lead character was ever concerned about his life style in slums. The movie show how people lead there life despite of all the shit around them without ever complaining.Movie never even mentions anything about living conditions in slums in India. It has been portrayed as it is and if somebody draws a conclusion that conditions in slums is not worth showing to others than he must try and improve the conditions according to his capabilities. We cant hide places in our country which are not worth showing to others. Why doesnt the people who have problems with slumdog complain, when each and every UN report shows how bad situaution of hunger, health.poverty and malnutrition in India is.Those reports too show the grim reality of their shining India. Please dont be shy of your own people.People in DHARAVI(slum in BOMBAY) are not ashamed of themselves. They try to live their lives with all the dignity that is possible under their living conditions.Stop feeling pity on them.Just help if you can.
<link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' Mr. Raju is saying that the company's assets are worth only 361 crores rupees as against the reported 5041 crore of rupees. Now the question is, if the company was never a 5000 crore worth of company from where did it pay the salaries to such large workforce. If the overall margin was only 3%-5% as against reported 20%-25%,how did they compete with companies like Infosys and TCS.Satyam was money. There is a strong possibility that SATYAM's money was used for personnel benefits by Mr. Raju.He might have invested the money in his son's business.Govt. really has to be proactive in this case as the clients all over the world are watching with keen interest. We cant drag the investigations forever.Decisions have to be quick and well targeted because here its not only the image of month.Everybody seems to have some opinion on pakistan as to what should be strategy to attack them.India has in fact attacked Pakistan in its own way.I think diplomatic war is the only war that we can fight no matter what.Though i don't support war, i still think that people need to be taught a lesson. The question is who are the people that we should be targeting.Surely we don't want to hurt the same people in Pakistan that were hurt in India, THE COMMON MAN.We should for once try to put ourselves in the place of a common Pakistani 20 year old boy or girl. How would it feel if a country double in size of your country was constantly telling you what is expected of you.I mean for GOD sake Pakistan is a sovereign country.People there are trying to establish a democracy that has suffered a lot in the past. What message are we exactly sending to the terrorist who are taking lives on both sides. Are we telling them that they can create the atmosphere of animosity between these two countries whenever they want to.Just imagine If a maniac from parties like Bajrang dal or VHP or Shiv Sena etc. tomorrow goes and hurt somebody in Pakistani embassy and Pakistan reacts the same way as we did.Is it possible for us to give that person to pakistan. These people barring a few like Dawood have been leading a very respectable life in Pakistan. What they do in India is known to us and may be to pakistan govt as well but a common Pakistani doesn't know all this just like a common Indian wont know about possible support by India to revolution in Baluchistan.Just like a miscreant Indian Can't be extradited to pakistan because then parties like BJP will create such a hue and cry that all of Indians can imagine, similarly parties in pakistan cant afford to be looking to help india out of its way.India should ask pakistan to help in a way so that nobody can take any advantage. We should try to understand there problems too.Why doesn't Indian PM talk straight to Pakistan's counter part? Why are there statements being given daily to the media(which is as hungry as ever)?India really needs to show some statesmanship and not just complain to US Gandhi nor against him but as an Indian i have every right to assess a person who had such a huge impact on India's history.Yes he played a major role in India's freedom but can we forget or belittle the sacrifices of Azads, Bhagat singhs or S.C Bose.If it was these people alone we might not have been independent for another 20 years. But that's a different topic. What i want to discus is, were Gandhian ways of fighting relevant all over and under every circumstances. The fact that none of other freedom struggles all over world has taken to his ways speaks a lot.Every other African country has a bloody struggle going on between different factions.Gandhi's own country has taken advantage of his ways in a vary shameful manner.Hartals and bands are quite a frequent happenings in India but there non-violent character is something that has not been seen since Gandhi.I think Gandhi's way of fighting can be successful only in case the oppressor is prone to public opinion and media scrutiny as was the case with the British empire.Surely a Fast unto death would not have been much successful for Jews against Hitler because he had no fear of wrong or right.May it's difficult to find enemies like British empire of imperialist times. So in a way Gandhi didn't give the world any new harmless weapon to fight evil.Gandhi was more of a person who had certain beliefs and he tried to apply them practically in life under all circumstances.Surely he can be credited with the qualities of persistence and determination. He was not somebody who thought anything new but surely he had the guts to say what everyone else also knew was right. He was not afraid of death.May be thats the fear in many people that prevents them from doing what they know is right.Gandhi never cared for his family more than his principles. In this way two of most common fears never bothered him.Hence he was able to Experiment his beliefs in the lab of life.No doubt his book was titled 'My Experiments With Truth'.I think that only universally acceptable thing he taught the world was that one should have the guts to live life in his own way as long as he doesn't hurt others in pursuit of his way of life and that can be done only by being true to yourself
<link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' said that it will consider all its options against Pakistan. The question is how many options does India really have against Pakistan.Every news channel has by now shown the comparative details of armed capabilities of India and Pakistan.Which country has which missiles and who has bigger army.Nobody though has had the guts of comparing deaths on both sides in case a war breaks out.Well may be that doesn't make much commercial sense to them. The question is who is going to fight the war.No reporter is going to die in war, even if one or to die, they are going to be heroes and their channels are going to get maximum publicity out of them(however bad it may sound its the reality). For example look at Barkha Dutt for NDTV her career shot up after she covered KARGIL but what about the careers of the children of the soldiers who died fighting on mountains.Who remembers them?Ask anybody who travels in trains or has a shop in the markets, on either side of the LOC.They dont want war because they are the ones who are going to be killed.I can't imagine anything more senseless from media. They are showing a good 30 minutes show to compare a WAR without even realizing what they are doing.War is just not an option neither is not paying taxes.I am surprised how these rich people never thought about not paying their taxes when singur was burning or for that matter when gujrat was all bloody.May be their India is restricted to those dining in the TAJ.Nobody said they wanted war when bombs blasted in parks in Delhi or in markets of Jaipur. The real learning from these Bombay attack is to start to value the lives of each and every Indian and that doesn't mean that we should make a war outcry every time there is a bomb blast. We can say that we value our lives when we start to invest more on internal security by upgrading police and creating professional institutions for the security of the country.

How effective will NIA be?

NIA(National Investigation Agency) is the answer that Indian govt. has come up with in response to Bombay attacks. It will be a central agency with powers to function across states in India. How effective it will be, is a question that only time can answer. Previous central agencies like CBI have been used extensively for political reasons.Nobody will be surprised if NIA too ends as another tool in the hands of central govt to settle political scores.I think the need of the hour is to upgrade our police rather then create investigation agencies. What does an investigation agency do ?The answer is that they collect evidence after an incident has occurred. We don't want anything like that, what India needs is a police force that can combat these terrorists.Even if NIA has all the information, ultimately it has to be local police that has to face the real action.I think all police training should be handed over to the military training academies. people should be given a training under same institute and then he/she should be asked about whether he wants to join police or army.We have all seen that police is not trained in the most effective manner specially the low ranked policemen. There should be one department for the security of the whole nation. We not only need coordination among police force of various states but between army, navy, air force and police forces of various sates. It is coordination among all these that is the need of the hour.Defense challenges for a country are no longer at the borders of the country only.Anti national forces are increasingly taking support from the other nations to hurt India from inside. This is the new form of war that our armed forces have to be ready to fight and for this we require a potent and modern force inside the borders of our country and not on the fence only. Now the question arise can we give all the modern weapons to a hawaldaar in police.Well surely not, they already quite difficult to handle with only a danda, i don't know what they will do with a AK-47.We need every policemen to be concerned only about nation and for every single child and women walking in the streets where they have their duties. For this to be possible they need not have any worries at all about their families.I think police has to have highest pay scales in nation. If during next 6-7 years we can make police job as enticing a job as any other job in a private sector among youth of this nation then we can have true police force which will be committed to only one thing ie. national security.

TAJ brings nothing new

The number 26 is at it again. It is strange that last few major tragedies have struck India on this date but that's not an issue here. The issue is whether India has had enough or not.How long will we keep on showing the 'spirit' only.By now everything has been quite normal, an all party meeting followed by assurances and nothing else, a few resignations accepted and a few not.All this has happened before. These attacks really deserved a little more.Sometimes i really feel pity on our policemen. How is a constable with a 'DANDA' supposed to tackle terrorists with AK-47 but certainly this question is not being asked for the first time. The sad part is that there have been no answers.I don't know about our intelligence agencies but our politicians certainly have all the information. It hardly takes a day to blame Pakistan for any terrorist activity in India, though i wonder why.Everybody knows we cant do anything about Pakistan. At least we can pretend that we don't yet know who attacked and say that we will take action as soon as we get to know.It is really insulting to see that even while knowing who does it, we cant do a thing about it.I wish that things change this time around not because it was the worst attack but because it was a part of a conspiracy that threatens to put India in a bracket of unsafe country for tourists. We cant afford a situation where people are afraid of coming to India. Our leaders never cared for the lives of Indians who travel in trains, eat at dhabas and don't have incomes to care about taxes but they certainly have to give protection to a city from where half of income tax in India is generated, they deserve it(not that others don't but nobody cares). It is always better to put your own house in order rather than complain about others especially those who have nothing to loose and are going all out to ruin you(like Pakistan).

India:An aspiring world leader

Largest domocracy in world ,permanent member of United Nation ,Big player in world trade ,own distinct culture, secular, one of fastest growing economies and what not, everything seems to suggest that india deserves to be given permanent membership of U.N security coucil .But one must be aware that power brings with it certain responsibilities. Are we ready to take decisions concerning other countries? consider for example our own neighbourhood . Pakistan, srilanka, bangladesh, nepal, all are troubled in some or other way but we don't have any stand on them.We should be very clear of our stand on world issues ,before we decide to be in the race for getting VETO. Pick any situation and some how we always seem to be confused as to what to say and what to do.Let us ,for example ,consider certain situations. SRILANKA:when their PM comes to india we ensure him of our full co operation .clearly LTTE is an terrorist organisation but we in our country have large tamil population.,so we choose not get involved. PAKISTAN : we always yall at highest pitch ,about pak sponsred terror through pok whenever there are blasts in delhi, mumbai or somewhere else.surely we can't take any action against terror camps in pok ,as pak has time and again warned of nuking anyone who threatens it.we don't have any national policy for terrorists ,even after facing it for decades. PALESTINE:we support rights of people of palestine but want to have good relations with israel as well. IRAN:we fought for our rights to use nuclear technology for decades but backed when it came to fighting for others. There are quite afew examples of india's undecided and spontaneous foriegn policy. We always seem to be reacting to situations rather than creating them. biggest reason for such dubious policy is india's domestic politics .Our politicians, and we have so many of them, always seem to be preparing to bring the govt. down.If govt. indulges itself in international politics ,ignoring complex regional and national politics,it might find itself in minority the next day.The day a govt. forms ,people start to talk when it will come down. If we can't have some sure foriegn plicy now, when we have a PM who has nothing to do with politics and is argubly the cleanest PM india has had, then we can never have one. These are clear signs that we are a long way to present strongly to the world an india that is sure and firm on international relations and conflicts.we all know india can do it, but how long will it take is the big question.

sikhs up in arms

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" It is not about Sikhs. It is about the larger question of lack tolerance among people in india. The gurjjar agitation, the movement of gorkhas in the east and now the sikhs. We have to decide have we lost every bit of faith in the institutes of this country.Every issue,it seems is being decided out on the streets.why do we have courts, police and even constitution if everything is going to be decided through public agitation.Such movements happen once in a while in a country changing the history forever. In india, it seems everyday someone or other wants to bring a revolution. All this is simply senseless and is not in the larger interest of the country.

DASHAVATARAM

<a href="http://www.rediff.com/entertai/dec/19kam3a.jpg"></a><br /><div></div><br /><div>kamal hasan has done it again. He is perhaps the most versatile actor india has ever had.Even aamir khan is far behind him.kamal always comes up with something special. After indian and chachi 420 he has come up with DASHAVATARAM.It is made in hindi, tamil, telgu. It has an animated version too.kamal has not only acted but has also written the script, done the screenplay and directed the movie as well. Now thats called multitasking.i think its high time that indian movie awards start acknowledging the work down south as well. After all these awards are for good movies not for hindi movies.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgdwM63RCSr3Ao_CSTBRfAd-rCEz8Hj2DTWZldqcz08g47Fvr1QIVabcD4xESMbdoA8gP4vtB4w2-mjVwaTOpMsHEocbxQSogfgEaH1ULREoOJIouS9bEaFPYc3quZNMPnIW26d-NA4sw-/s1600-h/untitled.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5211966763036393762" No matter what we say, it is a reality that society in India is a caste based society where people from certain castes have been targeted for inhuman treatment for centuries. When constituent assembly took a decision regarding reservation it was based on certain facts and we should respect it. Just because it has been there for last 60 years doesn’t mean that it has served its purpose and now we can do without it. Ground reality still remains true that so many people still not only are underprivileged but also face caste based discrimination.<br /><br />For those who oppose reservation, I want to ask only one question. Do they oppose 33% reservation for women in parliament. Let me answer for them, they support it wholeheartedly. Because it makes them feel that they are socially responsible. They forget that the basis for both reservation is same i.e centuries long discrimination and present vulnerable situation. Then why is there such a difference of opinion. People talk about institutes like IIM will be ruined by reservation. I m sorry but I regard parliament as the highest institute in this country and if it can stand reservation why can’t IIMs.<br />Another argument given by opposition to reservation to is that why doesn’t govt. target primary education. Yes, it may that because they don’t have a vote so politicians don’t care for them. I want to ask a different question. Even if there is reservation in schools, it will be in govt. schools. How do people see a child educated in a govt. school competing with a general category student who has done his schooling from schools like DPS, MODEL SCHOOL and other private schools. Ultimately he will still require reservation at higher education level.<br /><br />As far as merit is concerned, how many of us really believe that we have a merit based, just system of education without caste based reservation. Education in India today is a money making industry. If you have money you can get admission pretty much in nay course in any college. Why does nobody talks about seats for NRIs where merit is of least consideration. Cut off for general category in IIM-A is 99percentile,whereas it is 95 for SCs and 97 for OBCs. Now that’s not a big difference.<br />A country like America has applied its affirmative action policy to even private sector. What exactly do we want to preserve in India that Americans have missed out on. South Africa has quota system in sports and they are one of the best sporting nations in the world.<br /><br />I don’t support quota in private sector or in sports. But let’s not humiliate our leaders who while formulating our constitution had a vision. Why not take a pledge to eradicate caste based discrimination and help those in need rather then going out in streets disrupting public life and spreading hatred. Supreme court has rightly asked the govt. to define creamy layer properly and make sure that the benefit reaches to those in real need. The duty of govt. is simply to ensure that nobody gets to have the benefits of reservation if they don’t deserve it. It is very simple, at the time of admission itself every university asks for salary certificate and it can be easily made out from a salary certificate whether somebody deserves reservation or not. Also if there are any vacant seats after normal procedure they should be filled with students who missed out due to lack of money.

FOOD FOR POLITICS

Inflation has climbed to 7.41 % in the week ended on march 29th 2008.It remains a cause of concern specially for a govt. which claims to represent the poor and downtrodden. Inflation continues to rise despite of several steps taken by the government. Although it is understandable that it cant be brought down in a day , just because it doesn’t shoot up in a day either. The behaviour of opposition is not only beyond logic but also tragic. They seem to enjoy the plight of common man. It is just like a message to poor; here you are paying for your choice of government. Today BJP has govt. in so many states, what have they done to curb prices of common commodities.<br /><br />SENSITIVE ISSUE:<br />There are no quick fix solutions to price rise. The soaring prices of food items world over have threatened world food security. There is 83% rise in prices of food in 2007, while food prices have gone up 75% in dollar terms since 2000. There are no reasons to believe that price will come down in near future. Australia, a prime wheat producer has been hit with drought for last two years. Weather conditions have also hit production of staples in Ukraine and in Latin America. Rich countries like America and the EU subsidise the farmers producing bio fuels. In short at global level, there is a shortage of food.<br /><br />It is quite likely that domestic prices of food will respond to price of food commodities in global market. Not only food but higher oil prices in combination is a nastier problem to deal with. It is a worrying thing for poor.<br /><br />It is quite clear that whole world is facing a food crisis. At such crucial point politicians in India are busy in their own business of taking political mileage. Today when whole world faces food shortage, there seems to be enough food for politics for parties in India. I don’t believe much in GOD but when, India continues to not only survive but also grow at a healthy rate despite of so many headless chickens in politics, I m forced to believe there is some power taking care of us. Well may be its our only hope.

when bombay became mumbai

<span style="font-family:arial;color:#3366ff;">'BOMBAY',as it was named by the britishers truly reflected the global character of the city. But people in india have a strange affection for small things ,they changed it to mumbai as if it really mattred. Now people want to change its image .They want it to be of maharashtra only.forget global ,they dont even want it to be indian.shame on THACKREYS.They accuse bachans of being partial towards UP,so what if they are.somebody please tell me what have raj or bala saheb given to their mumbai, only some riots every now and then. They always create trouble.how many schools have they opened in mumbai. What do they do to eradicate slums and poverty in mumbai while sitting in their banglows.Anybody can write emotional articles in their own newspapers, but it takes guts to go out and really do someting good for the nation. The name 'INDIA' was also given to us by britishers, why not change it also.May be he doesn't feel as strongly for the nation as he does for his mumbai. Now coming on to the so called saviours of biharis in bombay.Who gives the right of speaking on behalf of UP and BIHAR to somebody called amar singh.Who is he?his party lost badly in UP and has no base in BIHAR.Such jokers decide anytime to become masiha of anybody on their own.I m ashamed that we use words like leader for people like raj, balasaheb and amar singh and they sit at the same place where people like nehru, rajiv, lal bahadur shastri, morarji desai, manmohan singh used to sit and dream of a nation.I wonder what kind of people vote for them and in what hope. </span>
