Thorne-Smith says she was drained from dieting relentlessly to compete with her rail-thin costars, particularly during her last two seasons on Ally. She was under-eating and overexercising. "The amount of time I spent thinking about food and being upset about my body was insane."

Smith ate only small amounts of salad and fruit and ran eight miles each day. She claims no one ever told her to lose weight, but she has felt an increasing need to stay very thin. Thorne-Smith says that while growing up she never worried about calories but when she put on some weight, the producers commented on it, and it triggered her. From then on she found herself lurching from one weight-loss scheme to another. Thorne-Smith says her obsession really took hold after she landed the role of Alison Parker on Melrose Place. "I felt pressure to look a certain way," she admits. "These were extraordinarily beautiful people, and that messes with your reality. Heather Locklear can eat junk food all day long. One day she was eating this big frosted doughnut, and I was eating an apple. I was totally full of resentment."

You can't bully someone into high esteem no more then you can bully someone into better mental health. Bulling is no cure for mental turmoil so if your goal is to make matters worst then bulling, blaming and emotional abuse is a effective tool. On the other hand, if you aren't a douche and truly want to help then avoid emotional and verbal abuse at any cost. Take out time to learn effective ways to help a person in need.

How to help a person in need: learn what to say. Don't try to lean on your own understanding. Take time to troll a mental health website and learn what not to say. Words matter so be careful for the last thing you want is to make matters worse. Make an effort to treat people with care and imagine how awful you would feel if you risk further damage because you were too proud or too lazy to learn effective ways to help.

Orthorexia is said to be a new type eating disorder popping up all over the US. People with orthorexia are said to have an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. Dr. Steve Bratman coined the word orthorexia in his book"Health Food Junkies." The obsession is psychologically and sometimes physically unhealthy.

Orthorexia is yet to be officially recognized as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association so don't be shocked if you mention this disorder to your therapist and he or she hasn't a clue what you're talking about but knowing this disorder is important.

Bratman says it's different from other disorders, including anorexia, but some doctors disagree. organizations like the Eating Disorders Coalition want orthorexia to have a separate entry in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). But that is not planned and many doctors think a separate diagnosis is unwarranted.

Twitchell says the criteria for this disorder are not clear, but it appears to have elements of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anorexia nervosa. In some people it manifests simply as a misinformed view of what healthy is; in others it begins as a restrictive diet. It becomes a problem when the worry about eating "clean," "pure," "healthy," and "natural" foods escalates and the person becomes obsessed with finding more and more foods that are not acceptable for consumption.

Q. How is it different from OCD or anorexia?

A. Twitchell says OCD and anorexia are related disorders. Anorexia is basically an obsession with being thin and a compulsion to burn calories without replenishing them. Orthorexia is an obsession with healthy food and a compulsion to eat only "safe" foods that have been prepared in a specific way. He emphasis is not on being thin; however, some people get to the point where they are restricting so many foods they do become dangerously underweight. This has been termed anorexic orthorexia.

Q. If it's not physically unhealthy, why is orthorexia a problem?

A.When someone becomes so mentally worried about eating "healthy" foods they may become malnourished, but most people will maintain a low-normal weight. If their rituals interfere with their personal and social lives, it becomes a problem, Twitchell says. People with orthorexia usually develop a routine around food including planning, purchasing, and preparation. With really restrictive diets, this can take nearly an entire day. They often criticize the way friends and family eat, or refuse to visit them because they don't have control over the food available when they leave home.

Q. How do this disorder manifest its self in a social setting?

A. They are typically not pleasant to be around and only want to talk about "healthy" food or their diet. A mother may be so concerned about helping her children be "as healthy as they can be" that she neglects everything else, like cleaning the house, bathing the children, and getting them to bed on time, because she is preoccupied with her food routine and researching new foods to exclude.

Risk factors include:

A genetic tendency toward OCD behaviors
A history of other psychological or eating disorders
Following a very restrictive diet
Some people adopt extreme eating behaviors for health reasons, others to maximize their energy and spiritual connection. But it's not about the actual reasons for choosing or avoiding a food. Twitchell says. It's the obsession with continually finding new foods to exclude and the negative impact it has on life.

A. Wrong. Muscle growth and development occurs outside of the gym! You are not “building muscle” when you are in the gym pounding away at the weights. You are actually breaking down the muscles! It is the recovery time that actually builds muscle. During this time, the muscles are repairing… getting stronger and bigger in order to handle the stress that is being put on them. Therefore your recovery time is essential to muscle growth! So how much time is needed? Good question…

In order to achieve maximum muscle growth, you should only train each muscle group once per week! That’s it… Training with maximum intensity, putting adequate amount of stress on muscle group once per week will cause them to grow stronger and bigger most efficiently. Any more than this is unnecessary and you’ll most likely end up overtraining and severely limiting your gains.

So… to sum it up, choose a complete body workout plan that constantly pushes your body to its limits. Remember to only work each muscle group once per week! No more and no less… Otherwise you are just wasting your time and you will probably never see the true results that you are looking to achieve in the gym.

“What’s Eating You” on E!, takes a serious look at eating disorders to provide new insights into a topic that has been well covered on TV, and refuses to give that nice happy ending seen on most shows like this. This six-part series first focused on two young women: Adrienne, 21, a professional dancer suffering from anorexia and Danni, also 21, suffering from bulimia.

Adrienne at 5'6" and 98 lbs is thin enough for customers at the club who watch her perform to complain. I guess a women with an eating disorder should not be on stage dancing. She should be at home jobless. I understand why the club would not be able to keep someone on that isn't being watched for his or her skills but for being too thin.

Although this phenomenon has been reported before, I would have to admit it's a bit shocking to see someone as bone thin as Adrienne deny she's thin even after being warned by a physician that she could be killing herself. In one chilling scene, she runs none stop although she was told her heart could give out at any moment. She wasn't concern with her heart because she didn't think she had a problem so she focused on the real problem as far as she could see, keeping the fat off.

Danni confesses to a camera that she’s angry and depressed all the time, but she refuses to talk to her therapist about why. Her family members say she took a turn for the worst when she wasn’t named captain of the cheerleading squad in high school. I think not getting better after getting treated for an eating disorder was just one more sign of failure. I think her mind deducted that if being fat was the cause of past failure then being fat must be the cause of her present failure as well. I believe Danni to be a perfectionist and her eating disorder is a sign of her desperately trying to improve herself.
