The Dangers of the Exotic Pet Industry

In recent years an alarming and dangerous trend has made itself seen in homes across the nation- the harboring of exotic animals as household pets. In today’s market you can find these exotic animals for sale in nearly any pet shop throughout America; ranging from the small and seemingly innocuous, to the large and ferocious. While pet shop owners, breeders and distributors of these foreign animals will lead their potential customers to believe ownership of these creatures is completely safe, this is anything but the truth. You don't need a criminal justice degree or experience in zoology to understand the consequences of adopting an exotic animal as a pet.

Exotic pets are often marketed in local pet shops and appear to be cute and eccentric pets. Shop owners often avoid explaining the the downsides to owning these animals to customers, and the animals are instead sold as being docile and sweet creatures from exotic locales around the world. In addition to the lack of information surrounding the proper care and treatment of these animals, the shop owners selling them will rarely give honest accounts of how the animal was captured and transported. This is partially because many shop keepers are as unaware as the customers on how exotic animals are captured and brought to the United States.

Typically, exotic animals are captured in their homeland, transported to the market in which they are to be sold, and then distributed to various pet shop owners for resale to the public. This presents several problems, both for the final customer as well as for the animal itself.

When these exotic animals are captured, the hunters often use unethical capturing methods. For example, a common method for catching baby chimps is to kill the mother and then take the babies. Another example is how hunters will sometimes use cyanide, a dangerous chemical, to catch fish. These shaky methods can have disastrous results on the fragile ecosystems from which these animals are coming. Furthermore, being captured and having to deal with the multiple transfers into different environments provokes high, unhealthy stress levels for the animals.

Once in America, life only becomes more stressful for these animals. The United States is not their natural habitat, which makes it difficult for many them to thrive. Especially in a house. Often, people visit a pet store and make a rash decision to purchase an animal they found because it looks cute. What they don’t know is that in a year, that adorable, fluffy African cat won't be so little and will be a terror; destroying their home, property and eating it's owner into bankruptcy and possibly turning them into a meal themselves. What’s the family to do then? It’s not surprising that many people attempt to turn these animals loose in the wild. However introducing a non-native animal into a new ecosystem can have drastic results on the fragile life cycle of the immediate area. Worse yet, the results and consequences are not easily reversed.

Causing issues within the environment are not the only problems that can occur when owning exotic pets. There are numerous physical dangers when humans try to turn these animals into household pets. It might be apparent to most people that a tiger would be dangerous, but those who have raised one and become emotionally attached may think otherwise. As humans, we tend to place our human emotions on our pets. Unfortunately, these animals do not have the same feelings we do and, as natural instinct, can attack.

The risk of attack by these animals is only just part of the many dangers in owning an exotic animal as a pet. Another serious issue that exotic pet owners frequently don’t realize is the exotic diseases these animals can carry. Salmonella, Hepatitis B, and even Monkey Pox can be carried by various exotic animals and all are transmittable to humans. It's even possible to catch these diseases without direct contact.

The best choice a person can make when choosing a pet, is to simply avoid exotic species. One should also strive to make informed of the choices when selecting animals and stick with native animals that have been properly domesticated. No species of wildlife will be suitable for the home, and trying to make an exotic animal a pet never works.

For so long, I have kept my word to try to abstain from posting videos containing scenes of extreme violence and horrific death caused by human beings on animals... but when a concerned reader Tita Borges Coutinho alerted me to an extremely gruesome clip posted on a blogspot site in July, written in Portuguese, and pleaded with me to highlight it here, I decided that enough is enough.... I shall not remain silent anymore.

As I do not understand a single word they said in the video, nor the words typed in the blog post of this particular website, I am urging all viewers to do whatever you can and get whatever help you are able to from friends who live in Brazil or understands Portuguese to help identify and track down these sick bastards. I may not know what these evil scums are saying but their actions and the fact that they are still laughing throughout makes me sick to the bone. May God punish these human trash and damn them to eternal hell fire.

Please, help spread the word of this video and if anyone is able to make out anything useful, please report to the local authorities.

As you are reading this, every second, 3 sharks gets killed by a man somewhere...

Sharks are hunted world-wide for their fins, because there is a demand for it. It has been used mainly for the oriental cuisine shark fin soup, but also for certain medicinal cures.

Contrary to what many people assumed, these majestic creatures are finned globally by countries in Europe, Americas, and the Pacific, not just in Asia. It is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it is estimated that between 10 to 100 million sharks are killed globally just for their fins.

As a cuisine, sharks fin soup are usually served in occasional feasts and in wedding banquets. One of the reasons could be that in the old days, sharks fin are hard to come by, and only the very wealthy can afford it. As such, consuming sharks fin is deemed to be an appropriate status symbol for the rich.

Before I knew better, sharks fin soup used to be one of my favorite dishes that I look forward to. But, thanks to the internet and what WildAid did together with a host of celebrities, when I realize how wasteful and ruthless we are in finning the sharks and throwing them back to the sea ALIVE... I vowed never again to eat or use anything that has sharks fin in it.

We should stop plundering and raping Mother Earth and the creatures who share the Earth with us. The people who do all these finning will not be giving up their killing anytime soon, why? Because we, as consumers, created that 'billions of dollars' of demand for it! The only way for the killing to stop, is if the buying stops first.

If you do consume sharks fin soup in dinners and wedding banquets, then may I ask you to join me in saying NO to this cruel cuisine, starting right now!

Romania: Horse Abused and Beaten

The videos shows a bunch of lowlife morons, supposedly Romanian, beating and working a poor horse so hard in cold winter condition that it collapsed out of exhaustion. Instead of showing any care or compassion toward the fallen animal, they continued to laugh and whip the horse repeatedly. The poor creature tried to stand up but was just too weak from the abuse to even do so.

Is this how mankind love and protect these humble servants who worked for us without any complaints? Is this how we repay these creatures who share the Mother Earth with us and allow us to make a living out of their hard work?

These videos are supposedly recorded and published on Youtube by Adrian Gica who claims he lives in the City of Canciu, Romania, in the region of Bistrita-Nasaud.

Once again, I felt sick and numb after watching this video clip. Close to 20 minutes of senseless torture dished out on a poor defenseless puppy.

Apparently, this loser guy posted the video on his blogspot blog on 8th Feb 2011, http://letumcanis.blogspot.com/, showing the video clip of the incident. He calls himself 'Asesino Knino', which means Dog Murderer, and said he was from the city of Badajoz. At the moment, the blog seems to be taken down and is no longer accessible. (Update: A captured version of the culprit's original blog post can be found here. It shows a very well planned and systematic checklist of the different methods of torture the culprit intended to inflict upon his victims. You can use Google Translate tool on right column of site for translation from Spanish. Thanks to Joaqin Marin for this very useful information.)

The video shows what appears to be a man wearing heavy boots, in an enclosed store room, no windows and very messy. He picked up a couple of puppies, both gagged at the muzzle with what appears to be industrial strength rubberized tape, strangled and choked them, and shaking them violently before throwing them to the ground. One after another, the poor puppies scurry to a corner of the room, cowering in fear. They appeared weak, and one of them looked like it was limping.

Then the culprit picked up a third puppy, which appeared to be the most seriously weakened among the three, and proceeded to torture it for more than 15 minutes.

Besides strangling and choking the puppy, he also held the flame of a cigarette light at the puppy's ear. When the puppy did not struggle much, the culprit seemed un-satisfied, and shook and strangled the puppy a bit, before burning one of the pup's feet, causing the puppy to struggle and cry.

The rest of the clip showed the man beating, choking, throwing the puppy, spitting on the face of the puppy, pressing his thumb on the puppy's windpipe, standing ON the puppy with both feet, putting a metal rod across the puppy's neck and stepping on the rod....

I just cannot go on with the description any longer.

Kittens Thrown and Stomped on by youth

Another footage of an animal abuser is being widely circulated on the internet. It is reported to have happened in Malaysia, Serdang.

This time, a CCTV camera captured close to 5 minutes footage of a young individual kicking, throwing, and stomping on, and beating with an umbrella, a few kittens near some seemingly deserted shops.

This loser seems to dislike cats as he/she seemed to keep her distance by first flicking the kittens away with an umbrella, before kicking and stomping on them. A more grown up cat appeared to have tried rescuing the kittens but was chased away by the mindless jerk.

Some netizens and Facebook users have successfully tracked down the abuser by her (yes, it's a she, a tomboy) cap and types of clothes that she likes to wear.

Video of Puppy Slammed onto Floor and Beaten

Another sickening video clip of a few guys torturing and beating a poor defenseless puppy.

These trash has no heart, no soul. If you prefer not to watch the clip, just read my description below.

First, this loser flung the puppy by its hind leg, slamming it hard against the concrete floor. The poor dog appeared stunned and badly wounded by the impact, as it could barely move and was panting heavily. Something in its backbone or spine could be broken.

As if this is not enough, the group of losers, including the voice of a woman, said that it's still breathing and alive. So they decided to place a firecracker in the dog's nostril and light it up, which they did successfully after a few attempts, the firecracker blowing up in the face of the poor puppy.

By now near death, one of the guys even grabbed a long pole and aimed a few blows onto the neck and chin of the dog, as if playing golf. And finally, he threw the pole across the dog's neck and stepped on the pole...

These black hearted and ugly losers are indeed worse than the most vicious beasts.

I am lost for words.

Help Identify: Man Burned Kitten Alive In Cage

Stop Animal Abuse reader Diego Wolf has alerted us of this horrific kitten burning video.

The kitten was first stuffed into a tiny cage, and then brought to a forested area, where it was then doused with some flammable liquid, and then set on fire. The heat was so intense that even the metal-wired cage broke apart. The kitten struggle but could only let out a muted scream before it's whole body was charred.

We have no idea where and when this incident took place, and do not know what language he is speaking. But we hope that, with the collective effort from all animal lovers and the power of the internet, we can track down these evil doers and bring them to justice.

It will not be easy, as the man's face only appeared briefly and partially. But we hope anyone who sees this video can provide some clue and help to flesh out this guy.

Dog Abuse: Poodle named 'Sushi' Forced to Stand

This video that's been going around the internet for the past few days makes me sick.

Apparently, the video was and posted online by someone who picked up a pen-drive in a shopping mall in Malaysia containing this clip inside, all of 15 minutes and 7 seconds of it. But the video on Youtube has apparently been removed.

This sorry and skinny excuse for a human being was seen trying to 'train' the poor toy poodle named 'Sushi' to stand on its two hind legs. The moron seemed obsessed with getting the dog to stand on its two hind legs, and was strict about how Sushi must 'stand'. He repeated said in Cantonese, 'Stand Up!', 'Look Up!', 'Stand Up Straight!', '... or I'll PUNCH YOU!!!', and was asking his girlfriend who was filming, 'why his back-bone has no strength?'. The girl can be heard saying in Mandarin, 'Dear, enough, 10 minutes already', and, 'Dear, there is some blood at the mouth...'.

Repeatedly, the poor dog was punched, kicked, strangled, thrown, slammed against the wall, pulled at its leg, slapped, ABUSED. Sushi got so weak from the abuse that, even after it was thrown or sent flying after a punch or kick, it didn't bother trying to get up or run. And at one point, it fell off the small platform it was 'standing' on and was too tired to even get up or move, but instead just waited for the jerk to come back to pick him up and continue the abuse.

From his tattoos, the ring on his finger, and his plain ugliness, the infuriated netizens managed to 'human flesh' him out and tracked down the couple's identity, car license plate number, and even their Facebook profile. The SPCA in both Malaysia and Singapore were alerted to the case and the Malaysian authorities are apparently going to do something about it. I hope this won't end up fizzling out into nothing as both these countries are not known to have strong anti-animal abuse laws.

Pictures in their profile also seems to show that she now has another dog. They have pictures of Sushi as well as their other pets 'standing'. While it seems that Doreen Loo seems to be the girl involved, the identity of the guy has not been confirmed; 'Champ Alan' may or may not be the man in the video. Reports suggest that Sushi the poodle has already died. Well, I'm not surprised at all. I hope Sushi is in a better place now.

Now please take action and go sign the petition to make sure these losers go to jail. It only takes a few minutes, but your soul will thank you for it. God Bless the Human Race...

He saw the true evil behind the cruel cuisine that is Foie Gras, made a decision to change, and took further action to help spread the awareness. And this man is in his eighties and counting! Now, what will you do?

Dear Fellow Friend of PETA,

I have a confession: I used to eat foie gras.

However, when I saw PETA's video footage on foie gras production and the deadly force-feeding of ducks and geese, I felt compelled to do something to help stop this cruel "delicacy".

Once my eyes were opened, I become a passionate campaigner against foie gras –volunteering to narrate PETA's documentary about the barbarity of its production, writing to every member of the House of Commons asking them to help end foie gras sales in the UK and penning pieces for national publications to spread the word against this repugnant practice.

Rescued: Dog Chained and Suffocated

Thanks to the power of the internet and all who cared, another victim of abuse was rescued.

A Chinese animal protection group has rescued the dog which was seen being chained and suffocated by its owner in an online video, SPCA says.

The video of a young man suffocating his dog had caused outrage on STOMP earlier this month.

PETA Asia-Pacific says that the dog was rescued by an animal protection group in Chongqing, China, and is now under their care.

According to Singapore's Citizen news site Stomp, a spokesperson from SPCA have this information from PETA Asia-Pacific:

"The video first surfaced on the internet on 1 October. It was soon circulated worldwide.

"The incident took place in Wulong, Chongqing City, China.

"A local group, Chongqing Small Animal Protection Association (CSAPA) rescued the dog on 4 October and the dog is currently under their care".

I am amazed that from just the video and the guy's face, they managed to track him down, locate the place, and perform the rescue. Maybe some netizens identified him?

Now, the question that matters most is, I wonder what the Chinese authorities did to punish this guy? Or has any action been taken against him at all?

Once again, I am at a loss for words. I know such 'crush videos' has been circulating the internet for quite a few years now, but I've never have the heart to bring myself to see it. But lately, netizens have been up in arms over a video which shows a pretty girl, apparently Chinese, crushing a little bunny by sitting on it while a couple of girls watched. The video captured all the gory details in full, even the 'squishing' sound made when the rabbit's head was crushed, and the sight of gooey blood dripping out of the poor creature's mouth as it was lifted off the table.

Apparently, these women were paid or hired to perform such acts in front of a camera, with the videos to be sold online to satisfy the sadistic fetish of 'crush video' fans. While the faces of the women were clearly shown, it seems that not much can be done about it as animal abuse laws in China is almost non-existent. But I still hope that, with the power of the internet, these girls can be tracked down so that the mastermind behind all these atrocities can be stopped.

I can no longer feel shocked, but still, I can't help but have a numb disappointment in me. If I see a pretty girl in the streets now, these ugly images will only remind me what ugliness can possibly be hidden behind a beautiful face and an angelic smile... If you know these girls, please, slap them for me when you see them... report them to the authorities.

To China... if you truly want to be a 'Great' nation, please look at your own animal rights policies. The people makes the nation, and if your people are like what you see in the video, that is how your nation will turn out to be. Serial Cat Killer in Singapore?

Singapore, Tampines Street 71: Just the night before, I saw this neighborhood neutered stray cat at the foot of the block, still alive and well. But this morning, before 7am, when I saw the way it was lying down on its side from far, I knew something was wrong. I have seen this lovely cat many times and, because it was a bit chubby, it never lie down fully on its side. When I saw the blood stains dragged across the floor, and the droplets of blood around it, my heart sank. It broke my heart to know that, because of its tame and trusting nature, it doesn't run away from strangers like some other strays do, making it an easy target.

This is the 3rd cat in the past 3 months that we have found dying from unnatural causes. I really suspect that there are some serial cat killer(s) around.

Poor darling. I had not even named you yet, as I do all strays I come across. I will miss stroking your head everytime I walk pass you. RIP.

Dog forced to suffocate on cigarette

Another cowardly act by a mindless idiot.

Can someone help identify his face and report him to the police?

This poor dog is obviously starved and exhausted. His hind legs were bound by what looks like metallic wires, cutting into his skin and causing some cuts and bleeding. Likewise, his jaws were also bound by some metallic looking wires. It appeared so weak that it can barely find the strength to struggle...

His eyes seem to tell me that he has lost all hope of living or being rescued.

Poor dog. If you are still alive out there, I pray for your rescue, or a quick and painless death to end your suffering. May judgement and punishment find this sick and cruel individual soon.

Video of Bosnian Girl Throwing Newborn Puppies into River

(Thanks to Dee Gostania for bringing this to my attention) Another month ends, but there is no end to mankind's madness and cruelty. The worse part is, even young teenagers are showing a total lack of love and compassion. And I thought girls are usually more kind hearted and loving, especially towards cute little creatures like puppies and kittens. But sadly, it seems the black hearts of the human race are proving me wrong.

Witness this video, apparently taken in Croatia, where this young Bosnian girl nonchalantly hurl a few puppies alive into a fast moving river. And worse still, she seems to be enjoying the whole process. And like those idiots who watched and filmed their friend throwing a dog off a bridge in Lithuania, in this case, her brother was the accomplice who helped filmed the entire process and even proudly posted it on Youtube.

I urge anybody who has any information about these two sorry excuses trying to pass off as human beings to come forward and report them to the local authorities. For their own future's sake, and for the sake of the human race, they ought to be taught a lesson.

Woman Caught On CCTV Dumping Kitten In Bin

A woman in Coventry was caught on security camera dumping a helpless kitten in a wheelie bin for no apparent reason.

The cruel act was caught on CCTV by the cat's owners, Daryll and Stephanie Mann, at their Coventry home.
They discovered the trapped cat when they heard her cries and decided to check the footage from their security camera to see how she ended up in the bin.
They believed Lola - who is not yet a year old - must have been dumped by drunken louts.
But when they saw the video, they were shocked to discover it was the work of a middle-aged woman.

As Lola walks along the wall lining the Mann's front garden, the woman lifts the lid of the wheelie bin, picks the cat up by the scruff of her neck and throws her in before walking off.

Mr Mann told Sky News correspondent Darren Little: "I was shocked how someone could do something like that to an animal, I know some people don't like cats but you wouldn't expect them to do that to an animal that can't defend itself."

The attack happened at 7.55pm on Saturday and the kitten was trapped for nearly 16 hours before she was dicovered by the Manns who were heading out for Sunday lunch.

"I'm surprised at it being a lady I expected it was someone drunk coming back from the pub, but when I saw that, it's mad," said Mr Mann.

Coventry Police said they had been alerted to what had happened and had passed the matter to the RSPCA.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "We are appalled by allegations that a cat was placed inside a wheelie bin in Coventry in what would appear to be a mindless act of animal cruelty.

"Investigations are on-going in liaison with the police.

"Anyone who witnessed anything or who recognises the person responsible is urged to call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999, leaving a message for inspector Nicky Foster."

Russia: Parasailing Donkey

The idiotic behaviour of mankind never fails to soar to new heights. Witness a bunch of morons, in Russia this time round, attaching a donkey to a parasail, and launching the poor thing above the sea water, where beach goers, including frightened children, witnessed the entire incident.

The donkey screamed in fear. The kids cried as they watched this ugly scene. And the idiots laughed, feeling proud of their achievement and probably finding this fun. Some kids were heard asking their parents, "Why did they hitch a doggie to a parachute?"

If only the 'adults' in this shameful scene can have the decency and common sense to ask themselves 'why?' before committing such a stupid and mindless act.

Reports said that the donkey were dragged for several meters in the sea upon landing, before being pulled out half alive onto the shore.

**Warning** Disturbing and shocking scenes in video.

You will see in the video what Gary Conklin and some workers did to the cows in their Ohio farm. I just couldn't understand what these sick pieces of shit get from beating these poor and harmless creatures with iron crowbars, pitchforks, etc. Stomping on the young calf, breaking their tails, punching their faces and bodies, kicking them in the face and body. They were hit so hard with the iron bars that the sharp pain they must have felt drove them to their knees.

They owe these cows a living, yet the cows are treated worse than a piece of furniture. I hope these people get locked up in a cell, forever. They don't deserve to live, yet dying will be too cheap an escape for them.

I feel so ashamed to be a part of them, a part of the human race. These people could be walking free in the streets, standing right next to you or your loved ones, and you can't tell their true colors till it comes out in the news.

I felt lost for words.... but I cannot remain silent.... They call it mass culling. I call it MURDER. As you can see in the video, these poor helpless dogs went through extreme pain and suffering, running away in fear from their murderers, confused by what is happening to their body as their limbs started to suffer from spasms of cramps. Can you imagine the kind of pain you get in your calf or your foot when you have cramps? These dogs are feeling it all over their body, where there are muscle tissues, they felt the pain. I'm not sure about you, but as I saw the footage, I felt a pain deep down inside, too. This is just not right.

Strychnine poison takes 10 to 120 minutes for the symptoms to show after ingestion. And the victim dies slowly and painfully in up to 2 to 3 hours.

The muscles in their legs tightened so much that they couldn't even walk.

The muscles around their rib cage and lungs and heart eventually fails as they die slowly in pain from asphyxiation and exhaustion from the convulsions.

The Bali / Indonesian authorities have chosen one of the most painful and cruel methods to cull strays, or to take any life, for that matter! It is totally mindless and insane.

Please, take action, send the Indonesian authorities a strong but sensible message here, and sign the petition here to save the Bali dogs! (try not to use the generic template given as people will eventually not read it, see the message I sent below.)

Remember what Bob Marley famously said when asked why he still performed in a concert 2 days after being shot: "The people who were trying to make this world worse... are not taking the day off. How can I?"

Animals feel pain and fear too. They are capable of love and sacrifice too. They feel happiness and sadness, too! Please, Indonesia, for humanity's sake, don't do such cruel things again.

For every bad way, there are always a dozen other better ways to do things. Why not consult with a local or international animal aid group to see what other solutions they can offer or how the government can collaborate with them?

Please, stop staining Mother Earth with more blood from her child.

Thanks to all who wrote in to ask me questions about how to prevent animal cruelty and to stop animal abuse. I am deeply moved and encouraged by the number of emails I received giving me positive feedback and encouragement, and offers of help and compliments pouring in. I am grateful for all the support and I've also decided to post a FAQ to give my personal opinion on some of the questions asked. This list will grow and evolve over time as the questions pour in.

Q1. What is considered animal cruelty or abuse?

Animal cruelty is when we directly or indirectly cause pain, distress, or suffering to another living creature, intentionally or otherwise.

The main possible causes of abuse and cruelty to animals are; what we eat, what we wear, and the pets we keep.

Exploiting animals for their body parts, for unnecessary luxuries, for our own pleasure; can be considered to be a form of animal abuse. In my opinion, everything and anything, when taken to wasteful excesses or mindless extremities, will sooner rather than later descend into some form of abuse.

If there is even the slightest doubt in you that a certain product could only be made possible by exploiting some animals, and you can live without it, then my suggestion is that we do not need it or want it to be a part of our lives. If we continue to contribute to the demand for it, then there will always be someone out there ready to supply and profit from it.

Personally, I am now using canvas and nylon bags and belts, and PVC shoes. All synthetic materials, I'm not missing a thing, and I'm happier than ever!

Q2. I want to help stop animal abuse and cruelty to animals, but I am not vegan as meat has been a part of my diet all my life, what should I do? Aren't human omnivores?

Well, I have asked myself this question so many times I lost count!

True, if only all human beings are vegan, the world would be a much better place, especially for animals! But while I admire vegans and aspire to be one gradually, I also believe in balance, harmony with nature, and self-moderation.

If you want to, and have the determination and will, to be a vegetarian, good on you! But it does not mean that you cannot play a part in preventing cruelty and animal abuse even if you are not a vegetarian! There are many animal lovers and activists out there who are not, or not yet, vegetarian, but they certainly are taking action in helping to stop animal abuse.

Different camps will probably give you different views on whether human are carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores by nature or design. In my opinion, human beings are closer to being natural herbivores anatomically (read this to see why), as on our own, we cannot outrun most wild animals, are not stealthy enough to surprise and catch most wild animals, and are not physically strong enough or equipped with natural weapons like huge jaws or sharp claws to overpower most wild animals. But yet, we are also opportunists and survivors who are capable and intelligent enough to set traps and fashion weapons that are able to capture and hunt animals for domestication and for food. Although I would still say that having a mainly herbivorous diet will be closer and more natural to what our body is designed for, not to mention that it is much more healthy!

Q3. I want to start right now to help prevent and stop animal abuse and cruelty to animals. What should I do?

The moment you have this desire to do so, you have already taken the first step, that is, to start the change from yourself! What you can do for a start;
i. Stop buying products made of parts of animals, especially ornamental and extravagant things like fur coats, animal skin carpets, ivory ornaments, etc.

ii. Stop eating 'Exotic' and Cruel Cuisines. Sharks Fin, Foie Gras, Dog meat, Veal, Drunken Prawns, Lobsters boiled alive ...

iii. Stop buying pets on impulse. Understand your ability to undertake a long term commitment of having a pet. If you decided to have a pet, don't buy, adopt instead.

iv. If you already have a pet, make sure that they are given regular medical checkups and proper nutrition. Neglect is one of the most common forms of cruelty.

v. Stop buying products from companies that support animal experimentation and laboratory testing. Many cosmetics and household products are guilty of being a part of this.

vi. Stop eating meat originated from factory farming. Animals from factory farms go through extreme pain and suffering throughout their short life-time before dying a painful death.

vii. Last but not least, you can help spread the awareness by taking a stand and telling your friends and family about it. Find out from your local animal welfare groups on what you can do to contribute.

Q4. Besides this blog, what other activities are Stop Animal Abuse blog involved in?

We work with other animal lovers in our community and help to spot and monitor new strays, feed them till they are strong and healthy enough, and then send them to vets for neutering. Un-sterilized strays are usually captured and put down by the authorities. To prevent the unnecessary loss of innocent lives, the neutered strays are clipped at the ear. They are then either put up for adoption or, for older strays, sent back to their neighborhood. This is to help control the population of strays. The costs of feeding, transportation, and the operation are fully borne by volunteers like us.

Man used to hunt and kill for food, for survival... like an animal, nothing more... but, somewhere down the road, as we 'progressed', things changed. We abuse our power, and kill, murder, plunder... excessively, for money, greed, vanity. We no longer care or give a damn about life. We do not hesitate even for a split second when we rob another being's right to live. We have lost our basic sense of decency and reason. We are the worse form of life on this planet.

Every year, THOUSANDS of sealers or seal hunters go on a killing spree, wiping out entire colonies of seals, adult, young, babies... blatantly ignoring authorities' ban and animal lovers' protests... while their governments just sit and watch.... as these poor creatures are being 'harvested' like crops...

There is blood on the ice. Clubbed to near death, suffering and in pain, fully conscious and aware of their impending fate... they wait for their turn, to be cut open, to be skinned alive, to die. With tears of blood, they watch as their kind are being 'finished off', one by one.

The line is drawn. The difference is clear. There is no grey area. Which side are you on? Will you just turn away, and let these murder go on, year after year, after year? Or will you take a stand, and do what you can? Every second we spent waiting, thinking, wondering, is another seal dying....

Washing Machine for Pets: Animal Abuse?

Innovative and creative, maybe. Moving on with the times toward automation, arguably. Animal cruelty? Definitely!

Sometimes I just don't understand people. You want to get a dog/cat, keep it, feed it, play with it, and so on. But part of the deal when having a living, breathing creature who feels happy, sad, frighten, angry, and pain, is to love it, take good care of it, cherish it, and protect it.

Cleaning up and bathing a dog is part of an owner's responsibilities! In fact, its an excellent opportunity for man and dog to bond and get closer than ever! I always ask myself this, would a father or a mother put their own sons and daughters into a similar situation? Don't these lovely cats and dogs deserve your love and care, too?

Why are people so lazy that they'd rather chuck the poor thing into a machine? Imagine how stressed the dog and especially cat will be when the dryer turns on, with all the noise and mayhem in such an enclosed space?

I'm not sure about you, but to me, these people are being a bit too "clever", and it is just not right...

Verdict: Animal Abuse. Animal Cruelty.

California Introduces Animal Abuser Registry Bill with Help of ALDF

Well well, well done I say! Its about time someone do something about this! History has shown that if someone is caught abusing an animal, he/she will likely do it again, and again, and again. Worse, they may be having some kind of mental disorder which can lead to violence or anti-social behavior against people, too. Would you allow a seemingly decent looking guy next door to play with your kids if you knew that he had shot two dogs point blank in the face before? No? Do you think a person with a known record of child abuse will be allowed to adopt a kid? No? Then why should a known animal abuser be any different? Without any legislated registry to keep these people in check, they could just walk in to any pet shop or animal shelter, bring back a few cats and dogs, and abuse however they want! (Read sample cases below). Good job ALDF, let's hope more state government will follow California's example, keep it going! Now, this is where YOU come in! The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) today launched an effort to help states establish public registries of anyone convicted of animal abuse. According to ALDF, such registries would protect animals, pet guardians and communities by preventing repeat offenses from anyone with a known history of abusing animals. This could include violence (torture, mutilation, intentional killings, etc.), sexual abuse, and animal fighting as well as neglect (such as hoarding).

Through its new campaign, www.ExposeAnimalAbusers.org, ALDF is promoting model legislation that could be enacted in state legislatures. Such bills have been introduced in the past by elected officials in Rhode Island, Colorado, and Tennessee.

Today, the first-ever bill for a statewide registry in California was announced by its sponsor, State Senator Dean Florez. “We operate shelters in the hopes of giving abandoned pets a second chance at a loving home, not subjecting them to lives of continued abuse and neglect,” Florez said. “A registry of abusers would help ensure animals are not being adopted out to convicted abusers, end the cycle of abuse and increase the likelihood of finding these pets the forever home they deserve.”

* Robert Rydzewski: In 2004, the then 29-year-old upstate New Yorker shot his neighbor’s dog in the face twice. Two months later, he killed another neighbor’s Welsh Corgi with an ax. Rydzewski was convicted of “torturing or injuring” an animal, and he has since been arrested for assaulting people and resisting arrest. * Shon Rahrig: While living in Ohio in 1999, Rahrig allegedly adopted several cats and a puppy from local shelters and tortured them sadistically. He poked out the eyes of a cat named Misty, broke her legs and jaw, cut off her paws, and left her bleeding in a laundry basket .His girlfriend turned him in, and he took a plea bargain that admitted abuse of only one animal. * Vikki Kittles: Since 1982, Kittles has been run out of four states for hoarding animals. Time and again, she has been caught housing dozens of sick, neglected animals in squalid conditions.
