I've gotten behind on sneak peeks.... and caught up in editing in some ways and behind in others.... oops! I'm trying to stay ahead of the holiday rush, though, and keep my head above water.

Birth sessions are quickly turning into my favorite type of documentary work. I feel so privileged that these families are entrusting me with this once in a lifetime event. That they are opening up their lives to allow me into this intimate moment... to capture such a momentous time in their life... to show them the miracles I see unfold through my lens.

I am always in awe when I go through my images and see the facial expressions, the looks of wonder, the sparkle of a tear in the corner of someone's eye... the things you don't see while you are experiencing this event, but when you see it captured it opens a floodgate of emotion and memory for you. At least, I hope it does.

Enough rambling... you get that I'm quite passionate about these sessions! I know a certain mommy who is anxiously awaiting a sneek peek from little Lyla's birth....

This was my third year traveling to see the Phillips Family. I have watched Miss Leanna grow up from 4 months old to a spunky 2.5 year old... and now she is a big brother to 4 month old Andrew!

I just adore watching my clients' kids grow up and watching their families grow and change. Its a wonderful experience.

Anderson's mommy and I go way back... oh nearly 20 years (am I really THAT old?!). We met in 4th grade and were inseparable throughout school. We were even nicknamed Chip and Dale (you know... the chipmunks ;) ) by one of our teachers.

Its amazing to think about the life changes our friendship has gone through... from rascally 8 year olds to awkward middle schoolers to mischievous high schoolers and dramatic college students.... to graduating college, moving, marriage, careers... and now parenthood.

Mind boggling.

Little Mr. Anderson... "Bean"... was quite the stinker during his session. He was as content as could be.... AWAKE. Now, I like my newborns sleepy. Sleepy and curly. He wanted nothing of it and defied odds and stayed awake nearly 5 hours!

I had a handful of ideas I wanted to try with him but unfortunately wasn't able to pull through. I did capture this one awesome picture, though. I love this hat (and this baby!)

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph Max and Sarah again.... they were my first set of twins and I think it is such a blessing (and so fun!) to see clients grow up. I photographed these little ones in the belly, as newborns and now as feisty one year olds!

This is the Craft Family's 3rd year of sessions with me and I am thrilled to continue being called back. We've gone from Lauren's Terrible 2's to her Trying 3's to her FABULOUS 4's. Have I ever mentioned how much I *love* 4 year olds?

This was one of the first shots I took and I knew in an instant that it'd be one of my favorites.

Another Charlotte's Web fan! I've been reading Charlotte's Web at night with my 3 year old son and he's so into it. It was neat when Lauren's dad came out of the house with their book that they've recently began reading. What a great idea to get a shot like this.

The holidays are quickly approaching... time to think about your annual Christmas Card!

In the years past, I have offered holiday cards to clients only. And I still do offer this (Clients... if you're interested in the designs available, please go to my Holiday Card blog). I've recently reduced the prices on cards, so that's a bonus!

This year I'm also offering cards on Etsy.com. How does this work, you ask? Well, you can purchase the actual card from my Etsy shop and then email me your own personal images to include in the card. I will design the card (with your images... none from me or any other professional studio) and email you back a JPG file for you to have printed wherever your heart desires.

What to Wear Wednesday

One of the biggest questions I get is "What should we wear?" I typically prefer a very casual look (as you'll notice in most of my photos)... something that looks coordinated yet a bit of just-hanging-out casual. Some of my best inspiration is Gap and Old Navy.

On Wednesdays I will be adding some inspiration outfit groupings to get some ideas flowing for my clients. Typically, for siblings or families, I like to choose one item with a pattern and then pull the other family members clothing out to match along with it.

I was excited to use a new location for this great family.... we met up in Old Town in Lansing, where I had my maternity pictures taken. It made for some neat locations.

The youngest member of the Myers Family was quite the little ham. He reminded me a lot of my 3 year old Porter. Comical and goofy!
