Philippines

Guimaras Island, the Mango Capital of the Philippines. It is located in the Western Visayas of the Philippines. The capital of Guimaras is Jordan.

We had a tour around Guimaras Island but only for one day on selected places. One of the places is the Roca Encantada or Enchanted Rock in English. It is one of the Guimaras' famous landmarks. It was owned by the Lopez Clan. The Summer house was built on top of a hill. The National Heritage Institute declared Roca Encantada as a heritage house.

Our second stopover is the Guimaras Wind Farm. It is the first windmills in Visayas region and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia.

Our third stopover is lunch! But unfortunately I have no photos and forgot the place. We are so hungry and no idea where to eat. But very delicious fish and seafood dishes!

The fourth stopover is the John B. Lacson Training Center. The place is an ecological park. You can also swim along the white beach line.

Fifth stop, of course souvenirs and their native delicacies at Trappist Gift Shop. This key chain caught my eyes. There is a cross in the middle! It's from Sinukuan Tree.
They believe that the tree is miraculous. The only gather the wood during Good Friday.

Amethyst as jewelry. I bought them online.

It can be use as beauty products. such as crystal rollers and skin products.

There are also crystal clusters such as this one:

It can be also combined with other crystals. My bracelet is a combination of amethyst, garnet and quartz stones.

Twilight Color Explained

Sunset. Or others describe it as sundown. Where the Sun disappears below the horizon because the Earth is rotating on its axis.

As explained by ScienceDaily:
Scattering affects the color of light coming from the sky, but the details are determined by the wavelength of the light and the size of the particle. The short-wavelength blue and violet are scattered by molecules in the air much more than other colors of the spectrum. This is why blue and violet light reaches our eyes from all directions on a clear day. But because we can't see violet very well, the sky appears blue.

Scattering also explains the colors of the sunrise and sunset, Ackerman says.

“Because the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight passes through more air at sunset and sunrise than during the day, when the sun is higher in the sky. More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. If the path is long enough, all of the blue and violet light scatters out of your line of sight. The other colors continue on their way to your eyes. This is why sunsets are often yellow, orange, and red.”

And because red has the longest wavelength of any visible light, the sun is red when it’s on the horizon, where its extremely long path through the atmosphere blocks all other colors.

“Dusk is just an illusion because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are there cannot be one without the other yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel I remember wondering to be always together yet forever apart?”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

I love sunset because of the purplish color across the sky.
It calms my soul and mind.
Hope you also like Sunsets too.

Durian, also known as Durio zibethinus. The name “durian,” comes from the Malay word “duri” (which means “thorn”) together with the suffix “–an.”

A lot of people don't want the powerful smell of the durian. But when tasted, creamiest and some variety does have a light bitter taste.

Durian fruit usually in season during August. And that's when our famous "Kadayawan Festival" celebrated.

Visit Davao City for our famous Durian fruit and delicacies especially the Apo ni Lola for some Davao Pride.

Some of my favourites:

1. Durian Yema
2. Durian Ice Cream
3. Durian Coffee
4. Durian Fruit (Puyat Variety)

Tip from a Davaoeño, when eating durian durian fruit, wash your hands with the inner side of the durian (the smooth portion inside) with flowing water, this will help the smell vanish from your hands. This is proven and tested by me.
Its been so long since my last blog. :)

We went to Iloilo City last April 2018. I really love to visit old town especially their old structures. One of the places we've been is the San Joaquin Cemetery. The San Joaquin Cemetery, or know as Campo Santo de San Joaquin, is located in San Joaquin, Southern Iloilo. And I was very amazed because it was preserved.

It was built during the Spanish-colonial period of the Philippines and was initiated by Fray Mariano Vamba in 1892, he was the last Augustinian parish priest in this town.

National Museum of the Philippines declared the San Joaquin Cemetery was declared a National Cultural Treasure in December 2015.

I miss our cat. Actually, its my sister's cat. Since my sister is working, "Boa" is left with my mom (I also moved out since I had my son).

Exotic cat I think because she's a combination of a Persian shorthaired and American shorthaired breed. But upon searching the internet, she's more of a American Shorthair. Anyways, whatever the breed is, she's a unique cat because I really love the silver color among her white coat!

She's very interested in our surroundings. I often caught her watching outside our window. She's very interested watching birds or any outside activities. Very calm but loves to be played and petted. They get along with kids. Doesn't bite or scratch them when played.

She always wanted attention. She will do something that will caught your attention like tapping my arm or back with her paw, kiss my face or do some stunts.

Always wanted to sleep in a very quiet place. There's a room in our second floor that no one sleeps. I always caught her there near the window. When I'm looking for her, I always call her because sometimes I couldn't find her.

I've searched the internet and found this one. It might be helpful if you want to choose an American Shorthair from cat.breeds.com

Is the American Shorthair the Right Breed for you?

Moderate Maintenance: Regular grooming is advised to keep its coat in good shape. It stimulates circulation, massages the skin, and removes debris and loose hair. Frequency should be every few weeks.

Constant Shedding: Shedding will occur often for this cat breed. It is suggested to brush and comb its coat regularly to reduce the risk of it developing hairballs. Be prepared also to vacuum often.

Generally Healthy: It doesn't have as many known illnesses and conditions as other cats. Best for owners who do not want to worry about long-term medical costs.

Low Vocalization: It is known to be quiet. Therefore, owners shouldn't be concerned of excessive and undesirable crying or meowing, especially at night.

Moderate Attention: This breed needs a moderate level of attention. It provides the appropriate balance for owners who like involving their cats in activities but are also able to be independent. Time alone spent can be 8 hours per day.

Slightly Active: It does not mind lounging around and being lazy. Some exercise may be necessary to maintain its health. Nonetheless, this breed is perfect for owners who desire non-active cats.

Good With Others: It is usually good with everyone and can be moderately affectionate towards them.

The Garbage Truck Story

One day, I hopped into a taxi and took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly, a black car, jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed the brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'

He explained, "Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. NEVER take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on with the routine life." Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...... 'Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.'

* As very rightly said quote:- Life is 10% what you make and 90% how you take!

Located at the southernmost tip of Mindanao, with boarders Davao del Sur and South Cotabato at North, in the east is the Davao Occidental, South of Sarangani is the Celebes Sea.

We went to Glan for their shoreline of powdery white sand beaches of Gumasa. This town is very popular with its beaches. Glan is very traditional. Old colonial houses, lots of trees. Very preserved place. It's the best place to spend your summer getaway. We stayed at Coco Beach Resort.

Coco Beach Resort is very accessible to the public. I mean, you can go resort hopping! Easy access to other resorts. The shoreline is yours! Walking, sunbathing, build sand castles. Others might go for swimming, snorkeling, boating and scuba diving. An amazing view of sunset along the shoreline.

No problems for picnics. There is a market nearby. If you want to go for an overnight, there are room accommodations and amenities. Small stores and canteens which you can order meals.

I think all of us are familiar with ginger even 5000 years ago. Indians and ancient Chinese used this spice for ailments.

Ginger or Zingiber officinale is a spice came from the family of cardamom and turmeric.

My brother came up with an idea to grow ginger. He decided to make it organic, because most of us now are health conscious. Organic means involving the use of food produced with the use of fertilizer came from plant or animal without chemicals like fertilizers or pesticides.

Mixed with soil, organic products like saw dust, chicken dung and rice hulls. The mixture will enhace the soil health by nurturing and not harming the soil microbes. These microbes will help soil nutrients available to plants. Thus, making the organic soil very friendly to environment and health.
We can get health benefits like:
1. The presence of gingerol is the main bioactive compound, it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects;
2. It can treat nausea (morning sickness, nausea after surgery, chemotherapy-related nausea and sea sickness);
3. Can reduce soreness and muscle pain;
4. Suffering from osteoarthritis? Anti-inflammatory effects of ginger can reduce pain;
5. Can help lower blood sugars and improve heart disease risk factors;
6. Can help treat chronic indigestion;
7. Reduce menstrual pain;
8. Lower cholesterol levels;
9. Contains a substance called 6-gingerol, claims to have protective effects against cancer (needs to be studied further);
10. Improve brain function and a protection against Alzheimer's disease;
11. Gingerol helps fight infections such as gingivitis, periodontitis and respiratory.

Are there any sickness/ailments that ginger can prevent/treat?

There are many ways preparing ginger. I prefer ginger tea (salabat). I just fill my french press then let it stay for about 10 minutes. Just a pinch of ginger powder because too much is spicy.

I use this "pure" ginger powder. The highest waterfalls in the Philippines with more than 100 cascading waterfalls.

Aliwagwag Falls is a beautiful place for bonding activities with family and friends. There is a zipline in the Aliwagwag Falls Ecopark for adventure-goer tourists. With 680 meters long zipline, while hovering and breathtaking view of the nature. There is a monkey bridge to have a closer look of the falls. There are also picnic tables located near the falls so that it will be closer to the great view.

The Aliwagwag Falls is very accessible. No need to hike into a rainforest just to have a glimpse of the falls. The bridge in the above photo is the highway from Cateel, Davao Oriental. You can stop over and take photos along the road.

Hope that I can come back someday here with my family. A not very long ride from Davao City, but a priceless experience.
SAN LUIS BEACH

Davao Oriental is a very nice place. Oriental means "east". Davao Oriental is located eastern Mindanao. It lies along the eastern coastline facing the "world's largest ocean", the Pacific Ocean.
That's why San Luis has a long beach long.

There are also rivers found here in Caraga. The Manurigao River found in the northern part of the municapality and the Caraga River, found in the southern part.

One destination we've been is the beach. My mother-in-law's family came here. And so we went for a vacation because she's boasting that the beaches here are so beautiful with black sand and waves from the open ocean.

This was already my second visit here in Caraga. My first visit was just a wonderful experience. We ate "kinilaw na pusit". A fresh catch from the sea. The sunset was beautiful. By then, while getting dark, we lighted a bonfire. Watching the waves and the heavy sound as it approaches the shore.

My second visit experience in this beach line was extraordinary. Eating native delicacies like lechon, kinilaw and sugba (grilled). While eating, you can see the water sparkling because of the sun's reflection. And when you're swimming on the beach, you can see your feet underneath. The waves are massaging your back. Foot scrub with the sand. All in one treat and pampering yourself.

We had a lot of fun.
Very relaxing.
The sounds of the waves.
The breeze..
A surely must visited place in Davao Oriental.

Our first stop was the Baluarte Zoo.
The owner, Chavit Singson, open the zoo for free. There are tigers, birds and even
a pony to ride on. There are also dinosaur statues to have pictures. Here is my
shot.

Another place we visited was the St. Augustine Parish Church, also known as Bantay Church. The Bantay Tower was a historic one.
It served as a watchtower for pirates during the Spanish colonial era, which gave its name Bantay (meaning to guard). Build
in 1590, and the oldest in Ilocos Region.

Another historic place we visited was the Heritage Village in Vigan. We roam around Calle Crisologo riding a "kalesa" (a horse with cart).

Hope you can visit Ilocos Sur too. Sure a historic rich culture.
And we are known for some beaches.

I scanned some of my photos and found these.

This photo above was taken in Surigao del Sur. Britannia Islands. Island hopping and scuba diving. They call this island a vanishing island. As high tide, only part of the island is seen.

This island has caves and corals. One of the islands of Britannia.

This photo is taken in Samal, Davao del Sur. An island just a few minutes away from Davao City. There are a lot beaches here. A variety of choices.

Foggy because when we arrived, it was drizzling here. So cold!
It will take around five minutes to get down from the Entrance by riding their shuttle. You can take along with you your packed lunch or have a barbecue or grilled fish. I scanned my pictures and found out that I haven't shared yet this picture of Lolong. This was taken last June 2012.

Agusan del Sur (The Land of Golden Opportunities), is known for Lolong. The longest saltwater crocodile ever captured.

Agusan del Sur has mountain ranges in eastern and western sides forming a valley. Flows here is the famous Agusan River. The third longest river here in the Philippines. One of the prominent features in the Agusan River basin is the presence of Agusan Marsh. With a total area of 19,197 hectares. The marsh is a home to endangered and endemic flora and fauna and became a wildlife sanctuary in 1996.

Meet Lolong, the largest crocodile in captivity. An Indo-Pacific or Saltwater crocodile. A 20-feet and 3 inches (6.17 m). This endangered specie was named after Ernesto "Lolong" Goloran Cañete. He is one of the veteran hunters of crocodile and from Palawan Crocodile Reservation Center who led the hunt. He died of a heart attack several days before the crocodile was captured. Lolong is now kept in an enclosure at Bunawan Eco-Park and Wildlife Reservation Center in Barangay Consuelo (8 km out of town).

Another pride of the Philippines because Lolong was officially certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's biggest crocodile in captivity."
Another Pride of Mindanao! The Tinuy-an Falls! Located in the southern region of Mindanao. Another main tourist attraction in Bislig.

One of the widest waterfalls here in the Philippines. Most people noted this as the "Niagara Falls of the Philippines. This falls has 3 tiered. With a total height of 55 meters. They also said that it has a formation of rainbow rays around 9am to 11am. Unfortunately, we arrived here late in the afternoon. Didn't had a chance for the rainbow.

Since there are limited tables and chairs for lunch, we decided to take our lunch at Sibadan Fish Cage.

Before you get there, there are a lot of nice scenes. Clear waters. Amazing islets. Even huts standing in the middle of the waters.

This is my favorite! Eating time. We ordered crabs. Surigao is very rich with seafoods. Name it! Must-try is their dried seaweeds. I didn't got a chance to take some because it is order basis. Order now, you get it the next day. To sad because we don't have much time to staying in Surigao. I planned to make some salad from seaweeds.. Tsk tsk tsk... I'm so frustrated... hehehe
Another place was visited.. The Enchanted River.. I didn't expect how beautiful this river was. It has crystal blue water which is around 80 feet deep with a mixture of saltwater and freshwater. It is called "enchanted" because locals believed that the river is protected by spirits.

The photo above: the current is going to the sea. Lifeguards always remind us to be careful because the current is a little bit strong. There is rope as boundary. Careful enough not to go beyond that point.

Feeding time is around 12pm and 5pm. When we were swimming, no fishes! Just imagine how deep it is!

Its like having a spa in a river! Stepping on the limestone, its just like having a foot massage. I don't know if this is true, they said that its water is like a fountain of youth. Whatever it is believed, swimming here gave me an amazing experience.

Today is Mothers Day. Let's give our mom something special. Here are some of my gift ideas.

No. 10 - Flowers
Roses. These blooms are linked with motherhood. The number choice on Mother's Day. To the Greek goddess Isis, these are sacred, that's why it is ideal for mothers. Roses also symbolizes Mama Mary. The other choices for flowers are Lilacs(signifies love between mother and child), Irises (symbolizes warmth and affection), Orchids (refinement and beauty), Carnations (symbol of a mother's eternal love), Tulips (new life, spring and charity) and Lilies (usually added to mixed bouquets on Mother's Day for their grace and beauty).

No. 9 - Candles
Personalized candles are popular gifts during Mothers Day. Let's give our mom a relaxing moment with the flattering and soothing light, and mind-clearing aroma of a scented candle.

No. 8 - Gift Cards
Surprise our moms with gift cards! Give them a break from a busy schedule and shop to their favorite boutiques. They can choose their own gift and we can assure that they got what they want!

No. 7 - Gift Basket
If your mom loves cooking, gourmet gift basket will be a bright idea. Gardening gift basket (hand rake and hand shovel, garden gloves, a book about gardening, choose seeds from her favorite flowers). Pamper mom with Bath Gift Basket (her favorite soap, facial cleanser, foot soak, hand cream, body scrub). You can also choose variety of chocolates, wines, cookies, fruits, books, or any mom's favorites. It's the thought that really counts.

No. 6 - Home Spa Treat
Entice mom to take a day off with a collection of essential body oils. Enhance your mom's spa experience by using specialty bath products you don't use everyday like specialty body wash, bath salts, bath oils, and milk baths. Give her some beauty treatments mud mask and facial peel masks. Wrap herself with softness with Spa robe or towel.

No. 5 - Home Decor
There is no place like home. Home is their sanctuary. Some moms are fond of collecting home decors. Give them something unique. Decorative pillows, lampshades, rugs, vases, candle holders, collectible figurines, etc. These will remind her of you even if your not around at home.

No. 4 - Sweet Treats
A box of chocolates, cookies, brownies or tarts for her coffee break. Personalized cakes and pastries would be a great idea too.

No. 3 - Greenery
Some moms enjoy gardening. Why not give them some potted plants. Plants will make homes more relaxing and stress free sanctuary. Flowers also can give color, fragrance and life to the home. It can also changes the mood. Gardens are usually a place to escape. It can lessen anxieties. A place for gentle rehabilitative therapy and prayer. This can also give mom an exercise as well as enhanced emotional being.

No. 2 - Perfume
Give her a bottle of her favorite perfume. They said that scent is the most powerful sense attached to the memory. Here are the Best Fragrances for Mothers Day 2012: 01) Prada by Prada - according to what I read, this scent is for the powerful and confident women who can do it all. Containing blend of bergamot, rose, patchouli, raspberry, sandalwood and vanilla. 02) Chanel Chance - for sophisticated women. Includes pink pepper, lemon and pineapple, hyacinth, jasmine and iris, amber, patchouli, vetiver and white musk. Great for showing off your lady-like demeanor. 03) Omnia Crystalline by Bvlgari - soft floral fragrance.
