HOW TO TAKE YOUR OWN BODY MEASUREMENTS FOR SEWING

Hey Fashionistas! In today's post, we're going back to the basics. I will show you how to take your body measurements for sewing your clothes or online shopping with the measurements I like to use for pattern making. If no one is around to take your body measurements, then this blog post is made for you. After taking the measurements, you are ready to make a basic bodice block and sleeve block pattern.

YOU NEED

Measuring tape

Elastic

Hair ties

Mirror

Pen and paper

Well fitted underwear

Close-fitting top and legging

Safety pin

Washable Marker

Necklace

TIPS & TRICKS

To get the most accurate numbers, it's best to take the measurements in your underwear. If you want to make markings or use the seams as a reference point, you can wear thigh-fitting clothing with long sleeves made out of Jersey fabric.

Don't eat right before you're taking the body measurements; this can affect your waist. If you're always bloated, you might want to take that into consideration when taking waist measurement when you're bloated.

If you don't have a thin elastic, mark the center of the elastic or use the top or the bottom edge as a measurement point.

Be sure to wear a bra type you intend to wear for the final garment, especially if you're working with a client. They need to wear the exact same bra that they wear with the final garment.

How much ease should I add? That depends on what you want to make, but most like to add one or two fingers to the measurement as ease.

I highly recommend standing in front of a full length mirror, this helps you see if your measuring tape is leveled around your body, and you can check your recordings in the mirror.

To get super accurate measurements, you can use a sharpie or a washable marker to make markings on yourself or the clothes you wear. This ensures you have the exact same starting point, for example, when taking the shoulder length measurement and the arm length measurement.

I have one more important thing to say, and that is whether you're skinny or fat, we're all insecure about our bodies. Just remember that you need these numbers to create your custom garment. Know that you're not alone with these thoughts, so, woman up and take your body measurements.

Now let's get started!

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR NECK

To take the neck measurement, wrap the tape measure around your neck. I usually place one finger underneath the measuring tape, making sure it is not too tight. If you find it difficult to take this measurement, you can wear a turtleneck top or a necklace as a guide.

SHOULDER

For the shoulder measurement, measure from the neck till the end of the shoulder bone. Record the measurement at the bump of the bone. Google ''shoulder bone'' to have a better idea of what I'm talking about. You can use the end of the shoulder seam as a reference point. Try to relax your shoulder, and I do recommend measuring your other shoulder as well.

If there's a big difference between both shoulder measurements, take the average.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BUST

Place the measurement tape loosely around the fullest part of the bust, but tight enough that it doesn't fall down, wrap it under your armpits and over the shoulder blades. Make sure that the tape is leveled and not twisted.

NIPPLE TO UNDERBUST

Take this measurement from your nipple until the edge of your bra. This measurement is useful for bra making or for an empire silhouette.

NIPPLE TO NIPPLE

This is the distance between your nipples. This measurement is good to have for darts manipulation.

NAPE TO BUST

To get this measurement, you will need to place an elastic around the fullest part of the bust. Be sure it is parallel to the floor, then measure from your nape down to the elastic. To find this bone move your head forward, then side to side. If you have a hard time finding the correct bone, use a necklace or your top as a guide.

ARMSCYE DEPTH

Then place three or four fingers in your armpit and measure the distance from that point to the elastic, then subtract the distance between the finger and the elastic from the 'nape to the bustline' measurement to get the armscye depth.

SNP TO NIPPLE

For this one, you need to place the measuring tape at the shoulder neck point and measure from that point down to your nipple. If you're wearing a top, you can use the shoulder seam as a guide.

CHEST WIDTH

Taken from above and between the armpits, place the tape measure horizontally between your armpits and record the measurement. You can also use the armhole seams from your top as a reference.

BACK WIDTH

This measurement is the distance between the armpits. I like to add 1 a 3 cm to the chest width measurement to get this measurement. This one is basically impossible to take by yourself. You can also use a body chart as a guide.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WAIST

Next, grab your elastic and place it on your natural waist, which is the smallest part of your waist, above your belly button. If you have an hourglass figure, it will be easy to find, but if you have a rectangular shape or have weight at the belly, it is not easy.

You can find the waist to place your hand on your waist where you normally would place it if you pose for a picture. I prefer this method because you do this on instinct. You can place the elastic on your waist and bend from side to side to see where the elastic falls naturally, or just record this measurement where you think it looks the best.

A quick reminder that you're taking this measurement to make well-fitted clothing for YOUR body type. So, don't cheat by sucking in your stomach to make it look flatter unless you want to suck in your stomach the whole when wearing your final garment.

NAPE TO WAIST

For this measurement, you need to leave the elastic on your waist. You take this measurement vertically from your nape to the elastic.

WAIST TO FLOOR

Also, for this measurement, leave the elastic on your waist. Hold the tape measure on your waist and let it fall on the ground, stand on it with one foot until the tape measure is completely straight. Be sure not to bend forward when you look down to record the measurement.

WAIST TO HIP

This measurement is taken vertically from the waistline to the hipline. You will need to place the elastic on your natural waist and on the fullest part of the hip to record this measurement accurately.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HIP

Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your booty, place the tape tight enough that it doesn't fall, and record your measurement.

ARM LENGTH

The arm length is tricky to measure; you will need two hair ties to make it easier for yourself. Place one hair tie around your elbow and the other around your wrist; this will hold the tape in place, and then place your hand on your hip. Measure from shoulder point all the way where you want the sleeve to end.

SHOULDER TO ELBOW

While you're taking your arm length measurement, you can record your shoulder to elbow measurement at the same time. It's good to have this measurement if you want different sleeve lengths and as an example, if you want to make a flared sleeve starting from the elbow.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BICEP

Measure the circumference of the fullest part of your upper arm. If you have a hard time taking this measurement, place two á four fingers in your armpit and measure approximately from that height.

ELBOW

Measure the circumference of the elbow horizontally. I like to take this measurement loosely by placing one or two fingers between the tape measure.

WRIST

Lastly, measure the circumference of the wrist. You can take this measurement above the wrist bone. This measurement is useful for the sleeve cuff, for knit pattern block, or when you want to make changes in the sleeve hem.

HAND

A good measurement to consider is the circumference of the hand when you're planning to make a long sleeve top of woven fabric.

Now that you have taken all body measurements, the next step is to make the bodice and sleeve block pattern.

Other body measurements you can take are:

High bust circumference

Armhole circumference

Head circumference

Underbust circumference

Shoulder neck point to waistline.

Shoulder to shoulder

DIY PUFFER JACKET

Hi helloooo, Fashionistas! I hope you're doing well. Once again, it has been a long time that I have posted something on this blog. This time I'm back with a diagram of the puffer jacket that I made a while ago and I wanted to share it with the people who would like to draft their own puffer jacket. The diagram is just a guide to make your pattern of the coat.

Making this coat seems intimidating, but it is super easy to make. If you make a sample, you will discover the trial and errors soon enough before you start with your final garment. My jacket is made out of Taslan, Cotton, polyester fabric, fiberfill, and pillow stuffing. It has an oversized fit and it features two front pockets, a belt, a high neck collar, an inside pocket, elasticized sleeve cuff and it is completely lined.

DIY TIERED RUFFLE SKIRT

Hi quarantined babes! There is a new sewing tutorial on my Youtube channel. I will show you how to make a tiered ruffle skirt for yourself. In the video, I didn't use any pins but feel free to use it when necessary. There is also a pattern reference available below if you're interested. Watch the tutorial right here.

The pattern reference is without seam allowance and the waist is almost double my waist. Other options you can do for the skirt is adding more layers, you can extend the length or you can make a separate waistband. Happy sewing and if you have a question leave it in the comment.

HOW TO MAKE AN OFF THE SHOULDER DRESS

Hello, my fellow sewing babes! Do you love the off-shoulder neckline? You know I am and to continue my addiction, I'm back with another off the shoulder dress sewing tutorial that I made with this beautiful polka dot fabric. Loving the print so much, but I would not recommend using polyester fabric though when making this dress, but since I'm still kind of on a mission of not buying fabric, I just went for it. If you're interested, you can get the polka dot dress pattern right here.

YOU NEED
Sewing machine
Serger
Elastic
Washable marker
Sewing pins
Scissors
Ruller
Zipper
Invisible zipper foot

HOW TO

Prepping
Begin by cutting all pattern pieces on the fabric of your choice, keeping the grainline parallel with the selvage of the fabric.

Step 1
Take the side front pieces and the center front piece and sew them together with the right side facing. Then sew the side back piece and the center back piece together (right side facing).

Step 2
Press all seams open.

Step 3
Serge the edges and seam allowance of the skirt and bodice panels of the previous step. For serging, you can serge everything at the beginning or after sewing a seam to save thread.

Step 4
Draw guidelines in the sleeves, front- and back bodice with a marker or chalk. This guideline is for the elastic placement this will make it easier to sew the elastic later on in this project.

Step 5

Gather the bottom edge of the front- and back bodice with a gathering foot. If you do not have a gathering foot, You can do it the old fashion way by hand, or you use the basting stitch (biggest stitch) on your sewing machine with the regular presser foot.

Step 6
Now match up the gathered panel onto the waist panel with the right sides together, then sew the panels together(right sides together). If you didn't use a gathering food, gather the fabric of the top panel until it matches the width of the waist panel.

Step 7

Place the back panels on top of the front piece and the sew sides seams(right side facing), then follow up with an overlock.

Step 8

Sew the skirt onto the bodice, make sure that the skirt is touching the plate on the sewing machine.

Step 9

Sew the bottom edge of the sleeve by folding it once then place the elastic on the guideline and sew it down with a zigzag or a basting stitch. Personally, I prefer sewing the elastic with a basting stitch.

Step 10
Fold the sleeve in half with the right side facing and sew the inner seam with a straight stitch.

Step 11
Next, sew the sleeve to the bodice, follow it up with an overlock.

Step 12
After, sew the off the shoulder neckline by folding the top edge twice (5mm) or fold the top edge one time (1cm).

Step 13
Attach the invisible zipper in the center back with an invisible zipper foot.

Step 14
Close the remaining center back seam of the skirt.

Step 15
The final step, is to hem the skirt hem all the way around by folding the bottom edge one time (2 cm) or by folding the edge twice (1 cm).

DIY OFF THE SHOULDER TOP WITH BUCKLE

Hi there! It's been a while I've posted something on this blog, but there is a new video live on Youtube! You can watch the sewing tutorial right here. The pattern reference is without seam allowance and if you're a size 34, you can simply take over the measurements; otherwise, you can use it as a ref. The dashed line is where I've sewed the elastic band on the sleeve.

For all the slowpokes out there don't forget to serge all raw edges and add the seam allowance in your measurements or when drafting the pattern. There are also other ways to draft this pattern, for example, you can make this bodice more fitted which I have shown in the past many times but than you have to add a zipper. 2. The elastic band can be added in the front as well. 3. You can add extra ease in the bodice. 4. Another thing you can do is making a sweetheart neckline in the front bodice. 5. line this top, et cetera. Be creative, experiment, practice, and if you still have questions, you know where to find me.

HOW TO MAKE A WRAP SKIRT

Another sewing tutorial! In this post, I will show how to make a wrap skirt with ruffle hem. Still, need to add the buttonhole I will try to do that this week and probably make a video about it. This skirt is pretty easy to make so read more to see how you can make this ruffle skirt for yourself. Get the pattern for this skirt here.

YOU NEED
Sewing machine
Overlocker (optional)
waistband interfacing
Marker
Sewing pins
Scissors
Gathering foot
Bias tape maker

Step 1

Gather the two ruffles panels with a gathering presser foot, if you don't have this presser foot you can do it the old fashion way. I have a video where you can learn 5 different ways to gather, watch it here.

Step 2
Attach the ruffled panels to the centre front of the front panel with the right sides facing. After sewing the two panels together you can topstitch, this step is optional.

Step 3

Sew in the darts and hem the back. When you sew the darts, do not backstitch when you reach the dart point then knot ends of thread 3 times. Press the darts flat facing the center of the back panel.

Step 4
Sew the back and front pieces together along the sides. After sewing the two pieces together you can topstitch the sides, this step is optional.

Step 5
Attach the waistband to the skirt by sewing the waistband along the top edge of the skirt with the right sides facing. Use sewing pins to keep everything together when you're sewing. After attaching the waistband, iron the seam allowance upwards and press the seam open.

Step 6
Make the tie by using the biggest bias tape maker 25mm, once you have made the bias tape with the iron, fold the bias tape in half again and iron it flat.

Step 7
Place the tie in the waistband fold the waistband in half and sew it down with a straight stitch. Repeat the same step with the other tie

Step 8
Trim the corner of the seam allowance then flip the waistband to reveal the tie. Repeat the same step with the other tie

Step 9
For the last step fold the waistband then sew the waistband into place with a topstitch. If you're going to do the stitch in the ditch like I did, make sure to fold the waistband over the stitch line so that the stitches catch the other side of the waistband.

Step 10 (optional)
Make a buttonhole in the waistband above the side seam this will allow you to insert the tie in the buttonhole.

DIY OFF THE SHOULDER DRESS TUTORIAL

New sewing tutorial! I will show you how to make an off the shoulder dress with ruffle sleeves. The dress is perfect for the summer, it is comfy, it has ruffles and it is feminine looking which was the main goal. In the beginning, I was not super excited about the color and fabric choice but now I'm glad that the dress is made with this fabric. It is also the first dress that is made for my sewing challenge which I talked about in my previous post here. You can find the sewing pattern for this diy off the shoulder dress right here.

YOU NEED
Sewing machine
Serger (optional)
Marker
Sewing pins
Scissors
Elastic
Ruler

HOW TO

Prepping
To begin, prep all your panel pieces by cutting notches in each panel piece, then draw guidelines on the wrong side of the fabric, where those notches are placed for the elastic placement, do this on the sleeve and bodice. Measure the elastic band around the waist, wrist, shoulders and mid arm. Cut the desired length off

Step 1
Sew the top and bottom sleeve panels together with the right sides facing then serge the bottom raw edge and the seam allowance. If you do not have a serger use a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine. A how to finish raw edges with a zigzag stitch here.

Step 2

Sew the (wrist) elastic band on the guideline and the (mid-arm) elastic underneath the sleeve seam allowance with a zigzag stitch. The elastic will gather the ruffles in the fabric naturally.

Step 3
Hem the bottom edge sleeve, then close off the sides of the sleeve.

Step 4
Next up is the bodice, sew the side seams of the front and back bodice together with a straight stitch.

Step 5

Attach the sleeves onto the bodice. Match up the bodice side seam with the sleeve seam, then pin and sew. After that you finish the raw edges of the armhole then you can hem the neckline with a double or single fold.

Step 6

Now you can attach the skirt onto the bodice. Once you have attached the pieces together serge the waist seam allowance and the raw edge of the skirt if you're planning to do a single fold.

Step 7

Secure both ends of the remaining elastic bands with a zigzag stitch then divide the elastic into quarters. This can be done with sewing pins or with a washable marker.

Step 8
Repeat the same step by dividing the waist seam and the shoulder guideline into quarters.

Step 9
Attach both elastic bands on the dress, while you're sewing stretch out the elastic so that it matches the same width of the part that you're sewing.

Step 10
For the final step finish the hem of the skirt by doing a single or a double fold.

QUICK SEWING UPDATE

This week I made two garments! An off the shoulder dress and a wrap skirt. The plan was to upload two videos this week but my arm got in the way again. My arm does feel a lot better now but I give it an extra day to rest and hopefully tomorrow I will be able to edit, then I can upload the off the shoulder dress tutorial. The pattern is already available here at Etsy. Next week or the week after you can except two videos to make it up for the one week I missed an upload.

DIY INSPIRATION ROMANTIC DRESSES

It's the month of May already it is almost summer! The beginning of the year I said I wanted to make lots of dresses for the summer and that is what I'm going to try to do for this month. The challenge is to make six dresses. It is very ambitious of me, but if I try my best and cheat with some clothing transformations, I should be able to make it. Do you have a sewing challenge for this month?

This weekend I want to focus on drawing and making patterns that's why I posted the lasted video yesterday, if you haven't seen it yet you can watch the tutorial here. Below you can see the inspiration photos that I quickly pulled from Pinterest that I had in my boards for quite some time. Hopefully, you will able to get some inspiration from these photos too. Here are the ideas:

Romantic dresses the type of dresses I want to make. It needs to be oversized and flowy for those times you want to look cute and comfortable at the same time.

Off the shoulder I'm a big fan of off the shoulder, but at the same time, I don't like my shoulders. Is there a way to reduce shoulders?! Lol.

Ruffles to add more the romantic vibe into the dresses.

Puffy sleeves have made a huge comeback this year. Get ready for superrrr big puffy sleeves

Square neckline also one of the spring/summer trend of 2019. This neckline is sooo feminine! It's been a while I made a square neckline.

Double balloon sleeves these are the type of sleeved that I want to make for some time.

Spaghetti straps I like how thin straps look on others but again my shoulders, lol.

Lace/Sheer/applique fabrics Gosh, I want to buy fabric so badly because of my other challenge. I will try to use the sheer fabrics that I have.

Button closure As much as I love the look of button details, I just don't have the patience for this, so this one is a maybe.

Bra cups not sure yet.

These are all the features I want to add in my designs, the next process is drawing. Btw, I've been slacking again, but that is no surprise to me. I was practicing here and there a couple weeks ago, but that's about it. Also, If you don't see an Instagram post of my drawing(s) this weekend, that means I haven't drawn anything. I will also try to post more drawing videos on my Youtube channel.

DIY CANVAS TOTE BAG WITH POCKET

Its time for another bag tutorial! I'll show you how to make this 2 in 1 tote bag, the bag is completely lined and it has a pocket. Btw, what is the point if the bag doesn't has a pocket to store your wallet or phone?! If youre interested in the sewing pattern you can find the pattern right here!

The bag is wearable in two way, cause it didnt wanted to make the 'typical' canvas tote bag. I decided to use this banana leaf fabric from Aliexpress to add some pop of color to my bag collection. I also used the same fabric for my sewing machine cover that I made earlier this month.

My closet is already overflowed with bags but there is always room for more bags! Watch the tutorial below to see how you can make this DIY tote bag and let me know what you think!

DIY PRIMARK T-SHIRT INTO OFF SHOULDER RUFFLE TOP

Hey there! I just posted another T-shirt transformation tutorial on my Youtube channel. I'll show you how to upcycle this T-shirt into an off the shoulder ruffle crop top. I got this T-shirt in a double extra large and it was only 3 euro! I was thinking about to make a two-piece set. Watch the tutorial if you want to see, how I've done it right here.

If you're a size 34/36 then you can use the exact same measurement to make your pattern. If you are a bigger size then you can use my measurements as a reference to make your own pattern. The dashed line is the elastic placement, you can place the elastic under or above the dashed lines.

DIY RUFFLE OFF SHOULDER TOP

DIY SEWING MACHINE COVER + SEWING PATTERN

Hello my fellow sewing babes, I finally made my own sewing machine cover for my sewing machine! Although this fabric has some stretch in it I've been able to pull it off. It took me 5 years to make one... I don't know why I waited so long and even though both of my sewing machines survived all the dust for the last 5 years. A dust cover does not only protect your machine from dust but it also spices up your room and the fabric is perfect for this season....and

This is one of the easiest sewing projects to do and strangely enough, definitely one of the proudest things I made. Most likely because of the beautiful fabric and again it brings so much life to the room. Luckily there is enough leftover fabric for me to make a dust cover for my two sergers, so that my machines will have matching covers. I bought this fabric 2 years ago via Aliexpress (find here), which I totally forgot about that's how many fabrics I have (facepalm).

If you're a beginner this sewing project is perfect for you. So, if you're going to make your own dust cover I do not recommend to use fabrics with stretch in it and choose a fabric that fits your room. I drafted the pattern myself if you're interested you can find the pattern right here or feel free to make your own and follow the steps below.

YOU NEED
Sewing machine
Serger (optional)
Interfacing (optional)
Thread
Scissors
Sewing pins
Fabric marker
Ruler

HOW TO

prepping
Cut all pattern pieces and make notches where necessary, this is also the right time to interface your fabric pieces if you're going to use fusible interfacing. Place the fusible side on the wrong side of the fabric.

step 1

Serge (or zigzag stitch) and fold the top edge of the pocket then topstitch a centimeter along the edge.

step 2

Place the pocket on top of the body panel with right sides facing you. Sew in the middle to get a double pocket and baste stitch the sides to the body panel.

Step 3

Make a double fold in the handle press it down then topstitch the long sides.

Step 4

Attach handle with pins in the center of the body panel then topstitch the short sides.

Step 5

Attach side panel to body panel with as many pins you need. Snip in the body panel where the curve starts of the side panel.

Step 6

Sew with a straight stitch. Repeat the steps for the other side.

Step 7

Try the cover on your sewing machine.

Step 8
Serge or zigzag stitch all raw edges with the seam allowances facing the direction of the body panel or side panel.

Step 9 (optional)
Topstitch/understitch seam allowance.

Step 10
Fold and pin the bottom edge then press it down.

Step 11
For the final step topstitch along the bottom edge 1,5 cm from the edge.

HOW TO REMOVE STICKERS LABELS FROM PAPER WITHOUT DAMAGE

Hey there! I want to share a nice life-saving hack with you. I will show you how to remove stickers from the paper without damaging or tearing the paper. After ruining half of my paper roll this idea came up to me, I suddenly remember that I've seen an art streamer doing this hack. Although the streamer used masking tape I still decided to give it a try and it worked out well! This hack is such a simple solution with a big impact!

HOW TO

Step 1

Heat up the sticker for 30 second

Step 2

Remove sticker with a pincet while the hairdryer is still on.

Congratulations you've removed the sticker very easily without damaging the paper!

DIY ONE SHOULDER CROP TOP FROM SHIRT

Hey! Here is another quick and easy clothing hack for you. last week I did the same trick with a different basic shirt. Since my plan is to make two more with this hack, I might as well share how I transformed my simple basic shirt into a one shoulder top. I came up with the idea, because I was not feeling paying 30 euros for a simple one shoulder top. You can watch the video here or click on gimme more for the written tutorial.

YOU NEED
elastic 8mm
basis shirt
sewing machine
scissors
pins

HOW TO

Step 1
Lay your shirt on a flat service, make it wrinkle free.

Step 2

Make a new neckline. You can draw out the shape first before cutting. Then try on the shirt to check if you you're happy with the new shape.

Step 3
You can skip this step if you don't want a crop. From your marking, cut straight across your shirt.

Step 4
Measure the elastic along the edge, leave this much space and cut the elastic.

Step 5

Sew ends together with a zigzag stitch.

Step 6

Pin the elastic in four midpoints. In the shoulder seam, side seam, centre front and in the centre back as shown.

Step 7

Sew the elastic on with a zigzag stitch, stretch the elastic while your sewing.

Step 8

Fold the edge then sew along the edge again, using a zigzag stitch. Stretch out the top when you sew.

Step 9

Hem top. Use a zigzag stitch.

Congratulations you're done!

DIY THE I.AM.GIA BELT IN 5 MINUTES

I've been seeing this type of industrial belt on Instagram and Pinterest for a couple weeks now. These industrial are super trendy and it started to grow on me, so I decided to DIY the belt from the brand I.Am.Gia. It's a super quick and easy belt to make, you should be able to finish the belt in 5 minutes, it is that easy! You can use the same tutorial for the off white belt! I used 3 cm wide nylon webbing and buckle. Feel free to go for other sizes, I already had these materials from previous projects!

YOU NEED
lighter
sewing machine
scissors
nylon webbing
buckle
pincet

HOW TO

Step one
Wrap the webbing around the smallest of your waist, which is above the belly button. Leave excess webbing and cut the desired length off.

Step 2
Hold one end with a pincet as shown then seal off the edge with a lichter, to prevent it from fraying. (if you use cotton webbing, I suggest fray check, hot glue or metal cover)

Step 3
Slide the webbing through 'edge' hole, and bring it down through the other hole.

Step 4
Secure the end with a straight stitch and backstitch 3 a 5 times. (Use needle & thread or fabric glue, if you dont have a sewing machine)

Step 5
Next, seal off the other end with a lighter.

Step 6
Slide the webbing through the right hole, then slide it through the other hole.

Step 7 (Optional)
Fold webbing edge 1 cm and secure it with a straight stitch, backstitch 3 a 5 times.

Congratulations you made your own belt!

HOW TO DRAW BETTER IN 2019

Here is my first drawing of the year! I'm not al to happy how it came out, but it looks decent. I wish I gave the legging a grey color instant of black. The idea behind it was black on black outfit, but it doesn't look right to me. An attempt to save the drawing was to go over with a purple promarker and a white pencil, which didn't worked out unfortunately. This is also the first in a long time I drew an actual face with eyes and eyebrows.

DRAWING GOALS

New year, new drawing goals! A question to myself is: How to draw better in 2019? Simple, I need to practice more to get better than the improvement will come. I'm currently sooo far from happy with my drawing skills. So, in order to draw better the focus needs to be on drawing, this time for real. I'm not going to say; 'I'm going to draw everyday' that would be a lie. Instant of daily drawing I will draw 3 times per week, that is doable. My order solution is to draw garments that I most likely would make. It's another motivation to see my drawings come to life. Also to reach my goal, is more importantly to have patients. By the end of year I hope to fall in love again in drawing like I used to when I was younger.

DRAWING FEATURES

In 2019 I want to work on eyes, hands and kinky curly hair. Like I mentioned before it has been a minute I drew an actual face. I will be focusing more on that to improve my skills for these features.

Drawing hands is also one of my struggles. Victoria Secrets has been a good reference for hand poses, well at least for me and I will keep continue doing that. Last but not least is kinky hair, I'll keep using my Pinterest as reference and keep on trying different techniques until I get it right.

My latest purchase from Black Friday sale! It was on my wish list for a hot minute, patiently waiting for sale or a discount code, lol. Why? This is my solution not to buy everything I like that I don't need. It works for me because most of the stuff are sold out in my size before it goes on sale. What drew me to these boots is the crazy heel and the zip detail at the front and they are extremely comfortable these boots are really made for walking. You can find them here.

There is a similar one in crocodile texture here, which I also like but I'm not going to purchase that one due to the different colour of the sole.

DIY INSPIRATION FABRIC PENDANT LAMPSHADE

I bought this lamp just for the sake a lamp was needed for the bedroom and it was on sale! In picture it does look all right but in person I don't like the lampshade. That is the danger of sale or Black friday, you tend to buy stuff you don't need or don't like in my case.

You have probably seen these type of lamps for several years on Pinterest or Tumblr, especially in Boho/Scandinavian style decors. I think I will combine the Enoki(image 3) and Koushi(image 6) style lamp into one, but I could also go for the easy road and cover my lampshade with stretched fabric like the Petite Friture lamp(image 5) which is designed by Marc Sarrazin. Either way my lampshade has the perfect shape for this future DIY project. Which lampshade do you like the most from the photos?

DIY LACE OFF SHOULDER TOP (PINTEREST INSPIRED)

Hey Pretties! Its been a long time that I posted something on this blog but I forgot to mention some stuff in the tutorial. In the video the edges were not finished, my laziness strikes again, but if you want to have nice finished edges use the french seam technique for the bodice piece. Here is a good explained video if you never heard of this technique (watch here). If you're not good with patterns that is totally fine. Use a 4-way stretch fitted basic top as template to cut out the bodice. This lace trim came out of nowhere I have no I idea where I got it from, its either from a local market or perhaps from Ebay. The tutorial for this top can be watched here! Let me know what you think of this top. If you know who this girl is from the photo let me know. One more thing if you know where I can purchase nipple covers for dark skin please let me know. Boohoo had some but it's unfortunately sold out in my skin colour.

DIY STRIPED SWEETHEART BUSTIER

It's been a while since I made a bustier, the last one that I made was probably one years ago. It was a recreation of Taylor Swift's orange bustier, which she worn with a pink skirt at the grammy's if I remember correctly. Love this blue striped fabric with the leftover I decided to make a bustier out of it. I also made a wrap skirt (see here) with this striped cotton fabric as well as the same lining fabric, which is also cotton. The bustier with the wrap skirt would be a cute co-op set outfit. There is still some fabric left so maybe shorts will be an option.

In the video I forgot to mention that you also can add like a silicone gripper strip to prevent the bustier from falling off. Some bustier bra's has the silicone strap added in the bottom edge and maybe even in some regular bra's as well so check that out.

DIY CLOTHING HACK TRANSFORM A T-SHIRT INTO A SKIRT

Hey everyone, in this post I will show you how to transform a T-shirt into a skirt! This DIY clothing hack is so amazing and super easy to do, it will only take you 10 minutes or so. Someone commented in one of my videos and came up with the idea. Grab your old shirts and give this DIY a try.

You need

XXL T-shirt

Seam ripper

Safety pin

Elastic

Scissors

(Needle & thread)

Fold your shirt in half with the hem lined up. Before folding the shirt, give it a nice press with the iron or smooth the shirt with your hands to get rid of the wrinkles.

Then cut undertheath the sleeve straight across.

Once done, continue with the bottom half of the shirt.

Next, create a small hole in the bottom hem with the seam ripper.

It should look like this

Measure the length of the elastic by wrapping it around the waist and cut the desired length off. The, and attach the safety pin onto one end of the elastic.

Insert the elastic in the hole you've created earlier, feed the elastic through the tunnel until you reach the other end of the hole. PS. the elastic has to be the same width as the hem or just a tiny bit slimmer.

After feeding the elastic through the tunnel, secure both end with the safety pin.

Stretch out the bottom half so that the elastic will spread evenly into the tunnel, make sure that the ends of the elastic doesn't go into that hole. Then double if the elastic isn't twisted in the tunnel, go over with your fingers all the way around the hem.

When the elastic is not twisted in the hem, overlap the ends of elastic and secure it with a straight or a zigzag stitch.

Close the hole you've created earlier with the sewing machine or with needle and thread.

When you're done your skirt should look like this now.
