This tournament features a giant sized prize purse, six and a half million dollars for these PGA players plus a total of 500 Fed Ex Cup points being given out. Brisbane Courier-Mail journalist Peter Badel says this is the worst NSW team in Origin history THE Blues contain turn out to be a State of Origin basket case in recent seasons, but NSW's throughway fortunes officially hit rock base when their squad was announced at 5pm last Sunday. As a proud Blue who grew up idolizing the wizardry of Peter Sterling and the toughness of Ray Price, it pains me to say it - but the class of 2011 is the worst team in NSW Origin record. It is worse than the squad whipped 3-0 last season. Worse than the 1995 Blues outfit which fell to Paul Vautin's Maroons, the biggest underdogs in Origin history. And unquestionably worse than the 1988-89 NSW outfits who suffered clean sweeps in consecutive years as Wally Lewis ran riot. It is not just an appraisal based on the names that will appear in Origin I next Wednesday night. It is the wider selection philosophy, the swift disposal of stars considered NSW's future and the mystifying snubbing of players whom Queensland would consider tailor-made for Origin football.

Just 12 months ago, Luke Lewis, Jarryd Hayne, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and Jamal Idris were considered key planks in NSW's restoration plan. On Wednesday night, they will be watching Origin I from their living rooms. Given the Blues' failures under former coach Craig Bellamy, it is understandable that his successor, Ricky Stuart, would seek to wipe the slate clean armed with fresh ideas and a fresh vision to dismantle the most gifted Queensland side in Origin history. No-one can dispute Stuart's passion. In that sense, there is no better candidate to revive the Blues. He is a brilliant motivator. But the selection policy over which he has presided is seriously flawed.

Tournament History :

The tournament began in 1938 and was played at City Park Golf Course, the winner was Harry Cooper. The tournament has been played yearly since 1958. New Orleans is the 11th oldest host city on the PGA TOUR. TPC Louisiana is the fourth place to host the New Orleans Classic. Past courses comprise City Park Golf Course, Lakewood Country Club, and English Turn Golf and state Club. Past winners comprise Billy Casper, Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, Davis Love III, David Toms, and Vijay Singh. First National Bank of Commerce was the tournament's first corporate hold up in 1975. The Classic’s next corporate sponsor, USF&G cover, dedicated 10 years of sponsorship, which helped the Classic become a major event on the PGA TOUR. In 2005, Zurich Financial Services, an insurance-based financial service provider with a worldwide system that focuses its activities on its key markets in North America and Europe, became the title sponsor of the tournament. Starting in 2005, Zurich -- together with the Fore! Kids Foundation -- has raised almost ‘‘$8’’ million for more than 40 charities that serve more than 200,000 kids in need all through southeastern Louisiana. The Zurich Classic generates more than ‘‘$30’’ million yearly for the local economy. The Zurich Classic provides an additional ‘‘$16’’ million annually in nationwide television contact. Over the four days of television coverage, the tournament is seen around the world in 114 countries. The 2005 purse reached ‘’$5.5’’ million. In 2005 the tournament had additional than 40 charity recipient. In 2006, The Zurich Classic was the 1st countrywide televised fair event after Hurricane Katrina. Many players dedicated their earnings from the tournament to Hurricane relief. The purse reached ‘‘$6.0’’ million in 2006 and ‘‘$6.1’’ million in 2007. Zurich Financial armed forces showed its hold up of New Orleans and the tournament when they renewed their contract as title sponsor for an extra two years, bring them through 2010.
