How to Remove Genuine Notification on Windows XP

Here is a trick on how to remove Genuine Notification from Microsoft. I have only tried this on XP. I'm not sure if it works on Vista. Just follow this procedures:

1. Lauch Windows Task Manager.
2. End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
3. Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
4. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
5. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
6. Lauch RegEdit.
7. Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
8. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
9. Reboot Windows XP.

This is a situation that every tech support person has faced or will face at least once:
a failed hard drive.

In this particular case, a user was getting errors like “disk 0 error” and “invalid drive specification.” Here were the other facts in the case:
• The data wasn’t backed up.
• The problem came out of nowhere.
• The user had accessed Setup and tried to manually enter the settings for the drive type when
“Auto” didn’t work.
• There was no startup disk made by this machine.

Reviving a drive like that one—even if only long enough to copy its data before you throw the drive in the garbage—is a tough challenge.

If for some reason you needed to read an ISO image file in your hard disk instead of your CD drive, Microsoft has a free tool that allows you to create a virtual CD drive using your hard disk.

You can find the program here.

When you run this program it will create 3l files: vcdcontroltool.exe, vcdrom.sys, and readme.txt

1. You need to put vcdrom.sys in your C:\windows\system32\
2. Run vcdcontroltool.exe
3. Click the install driver button and choose c:\windows\system32\vcdcontroltool.exe
4. Then click the Start button and then the OK button
5. Click Add Drive button
6. Then click Mount button and choose the ISO image file in your hard disk

After these steps you should be able to read the ISO image file as if it was a CD drive in your computer.

Microsoft employees spend a few years of their lives nurturing a product, teaching it some new tricks, and before you know it you have to release it into the wild and start all over again. Coincidentally, Microsoft also seems to do a lot of hiring during that tumultuous switchover period, and its latest round of job postings have offered a few clues as to what we can expect in Windows 8, and when the company plans to focus on it in earnest. That will apparently happen at the start of the company's 2011 fiscal year, which translates to July, 2010 for everyone else. As for Windows 8 itself, it seems that Microsoft is particularly interested in finding a few folks to work on how Windows Update works in the latest iteration of the OS, including things third-party application updating, updating virtual machines when they're turned off, and delivery of full applications .Windows 8 Server and a "new UX framework".

ASUS for years now has been developing motherboard which are designed for gamers, but things have became more serious with the Maximus III Extreme. The P55-based board, which falls into the growing Republic of Gamers lineup, adds a new feature to the existing ROG Connect overclocking system: Bluetooth control. Yup that's Bluetooth, ASUS claims that this mainboard actually "enables users to tweak system settings wirelessly over Bluetooth via a mobile phone." More specifically, RC Bluetooth allows users to "review the status of their systems' hardware and tweak parameters wirelessly from a Bluetooth-enabled PDA phone," with examples like controlling music playback and dealing with Skype conversations given. There's no specific mention of a price or release date, but you can bet we'll be digging for specifics on the limits and functionality baked in here.

Chrome OS hacked for Dell's Mini 10v

If you've got a Dell Mini 10v and you've been wanting to take Chrome OS for a spin in its proper environment, of course in a notebook, that is. Today things about dell and chrome OS just got a lot more interesting. One helpful tinkerer over at Dell has hacked up a USB-bootable version of the as-yet unfinished Chromium iteration of Google's OS with a working WiFi component. As tested before with dell mini 10v wireless wasn't happening, but that's all changed now... for 10v owners at the very least. It looks like there are still some kinks to be worked out, and you'll be cruising into the OS on a Dell Gmail account, but at least you'll be able to walk around your house while screaming "I'm using Chrome OS!" unburdened by pesky wires. The End of Torrents?End of free Minivova torrents?

In May 2009 the Dutch copyright enforcement organization BREIN started a civil procedure against Mininova, the worlds largest torrent sharing site, demanding it starts filtering torrent files pointing to copyright protected works from its platform.

In August Mininova lost and the judge ruled that, although not directly responsible for any copyright infringement, it was lawfully ordered to remove all torrents linking to copyrighted material within three months, or face a penalty of up to 5 million euros.
Today, according to TorrentFreak, Mininova made it happen. The site has removed all torrents except those that were uploaded through its content distribution service. This means that only approved uploaders can share torrents through the site.

Mininova confirm the action in a post saying:
“Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on. We are still considering an appeal at this moment.”
Where do we go from here? Mininova may still appeal the decision but the costs involved and unlikely success will probably leave the millions of Mininova users looking for a new HQ.
Many might believe with the demise of The Pirate Bay and now Mininova, this might mean the beginning of the end of Torrents and file sharing as we know them, but with limited current offerings and absurd restrictions, file sharing won’t just go away, not until the industry begins to modify their business model to align themselves with their customer’s needs.
File sharing will evolve and continue to thrive, no matter how many lawyers, judges and rulings you throw at it.
Mininova launched in January 2005 as a successor to the (at that time very popular) Suprnova.org. Based in the Netherlands, the founders also run a recently created video sharing site Snotr.
