By Devon Web Design and Advertising Agency Think Media

Since the simple concept of the website first became a major part of our lives years ago, a lot has changed. In the past, websites were designed mostly to show off the latest in this new technology and all it could bring to the table. However, times have begun to change and have found people becoming more used to the internet and the level of convenience it offers.

As a result, websites are becoming sleeker and more efficient. They’re more focused on functionality than they are flash and show. When it comes to visuals, we’re seeing more attention being paid to a streamlined finished and a minimalist point of view as well. Here’s how we can expect these trends to continue into the bright new year of 2013.
Interactivity Will Be Huge.

Web design and mobile technology are changing a lot about people’s expectations in regards to the media they absorb, as well as the resources they rely on. Every year, human beings evolve more toward a personalized lifestyle where everything is customized for them.

Web-based radio and television stations not only play people the music they most want to hear, but they make personalized recommendations in regards to what they might want to check out next. Mobile phone apps effortlessly customize themselves according to the user’s location, preferences, and usage history. As a result, people are expecting the same from the websites they use to an increasing degree.
In 2013, website designers who truly wish to stay ahead of the game will be contouring their designs to fit this preference. More websites will be utilizing scripts that recommend not only onsite content that might fit the user’s needs, but also location-based recommendations such as localized price quotes or local service-finder plug-ins.
Increased Focus on Social Media.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that social media is something that’s here to stay. At this point, interfaces like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google Plus are a lot more than simple ways to stay in touch with family and friends. They’re platforms we rely on for news, advice, core social interactions, and much more. This is only expected to become more the case in the years to come, so naturally website design is expected to showcase social media-based interactions to a much greater degree. This trend is also expected to reach and influence web content and services provided by web-based businesses as well.

Think Media Design Options.

We’re already seeing a huge increase in the role multiple devices and interfaces are playing in regards to how people access the internet. Website designers are moving away from the old-school static design and adopting methods that are more responsive in nature. This allows for a given site to load well and be usable via any interface whether that’s a standard desktop system, a sleek new iPad, or a mobile phone.
That said, more web designers will be making the switch from the tried and true HTML4 and old-school CSS options and upgrading to CSS3 or HTML5. Sites designed using these programming interfaces are actually able to function more like mobile apps and tablet apps.
This allows the site to be viewable, usable, and enjoyable to use across a multitude of different devices and interfaces. By the end of 2013, it’s actually probable that few web designers worth their salt will be using anything else.

In short, the year 2013 will find us moving boldly forward and building upon existing trends in a big way. How exciting it will be to see where web design takes us next!

We’re very proud to announce that Orange Tree has won a national award for Best Gifts, Lifestyle and Homewares (Interiors) Retailer!

The award was presented at a prestigious ceremony at The Lancaster Hotel in London, hosted by the comedian Ian Moore. Orange Tree was up against some very stiff competition from all over the UK so we’re delighted to have bought the award back to Devon.

The award recognises the efforts the Orange Tree put in during 2011 to make their customers’ shopping experience special. In particular, the judges were pleased to see the new hard-to-find brands they managed to bring to Devon, such as Dower and Hall jewellery, Butler and Wilson jewellery and Caudalíe skincare. They were also impressed by the events we held throughout the year such as the Best of British Week and our Christmas Indulgence Evening.

Their shop manager Hannah McMurray was also shortlisted for Retail Employee of the Year, which is an incredible achievement as although she has been with us a number of years she’s only been shop manager for a few months!

For a family business like Orange Tree it’s a real honour to be recognised with a national award and they would like to thank all their customers for their support.

With over 20 years experience as a PGA Professional, Stuart has been focusing his attention on building his business at Padbrook Park and has been looking to expand his golf shop and decided to venture into the world of e-commerce. With the help of a local company, Think Media, run by Laura Ali, Stuart first instructed Think Media to redesign his golf coaching website, www.thegolfacademy.net. This proved to be a huge success with the site now being ranked as No.1 in Google searches when searching for Golf Academy’s. The coaching side of Stuart’s business has always been pretty steady due to his involvement in Devon Golf with the Devon County Girls Team, the Devon Golf Partnership, England Golf and of course looking after his many clients.

Stuart has been the PGA Professional at Padbrook Park for nearly two years now and has his own shop on the impressive Cullompton site. Located next to the driving range, Stuart provides a Custom Fitting service for Mizuno golf equipment and Cobra equipment. Along with many other leading golfing brands, Stuart has worked hard to create his own place in the market, providing superb customer service and knowledge. His team, lead by Assistant Alistair Williams and Duncan Hepburn are always there to help out with any customer queries.

Stuart’s reputation has grown steadily with lots of new golfers and customers coming through the doors, knowing they will get sound advice from not only a PGA Advanced Professional, but also from golfers who know about golf.

The design of the new website in conjunction with Think Media has taken the business to the next level. Being able to reach the wider audience and being able to provide the same level of superb customer service with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge to pass onto customers, has been a dream for Stuart. This dream is now a reality, thanks to the huge support of his loyal customers and of course to a design team that fully understood his dreams and aspirations.

The group will help women aged 18 to 30 who have, or are looking to, set up a business.

The support group meetings will be held once a month at the Naz Indian restaurant in Newton Abbot.

Laura has already attracted involvement from Nat West bank who will also help source women who may be interested in attending the meetings.

The group aims to 'empower' young women who need business advice.

"There is nothing in Devon for these young women," said Laura.

"This group will empower young women to say we can do it and we can be successful.

"All they need is the right help, the right advice and the right vision."

The meetings will provide young women with free online and digital marketing, advertising, and PR advice.
