Taming the beast

I spent the afternoon working with the new serger. After tricky moments including threading problems and not understanding the manual instructions, I finally tamed the beast! You can't image how happy I am. Eventually I learned the basic stitches and now I'm thrilled to begin sewing. On another note, we ate pizza yesterday and I felt very proud to be italian. Next time you eat pizza, try the "rianata" (a sicilian recipe): tomato, no mozzarella, garlic, oil, a lot of oregano (I got mine directly from Sicily) and pecorino cheese. Fabulous!

Cari tutti, ho messo una funzione che traduce direttamente dall'inglese all'italiano i post che scrivo, grazie al traduttore di Google. Basta che facciate click su "Traduci". Certo, la traduzione di Google a volte è imbarazzante, ma mi risparmia una fatica... Che ne pensate?

Learning again

Today I tried to sew again after something like 4 months I didn't touch the sewing machine. A total disaster! Aaaarrrggghhh! I lost my touch. Totally. Wrong stitches, wrong cutting the fabric... I think I just need to learn again. It will be hard!

And for my birthday my parents gave me a serger! Yay! I'm so happy! I'm thinking about dedicating a little time everyday to sewing. I'm sure with practice you can go anywhere.

Do you have any advice to a "old" beginner in sewing?

Oggi ho cercato di cucire di nuovo dopo circa 4 mesi che non toccato la macchina da cucire. Un disastro totale. Ho perso la mano. Totalmente. Probabilmente devo ricominciare a imparare. Sarà dura!

E per il mio compleanno i miei genitori mi hanno regalato una tagliaecuci! Evvai! Sto pensando di dedicare ogni giorno un po' di tempo al cucito. Avete qualche consiglio per una "vecchia" principiante?

I made some cleaning in the home today, some organizing... and some shooting. I love late day light in our home. It's subtle and soft and yellow-y. The cats are loving it too.

Oggi ho pulito un po' la casa, ho sistemato un po' di cose... e scattato qualche foto. Mi piace molto la luce nella casa alla fine della giornata. È molto discreta, bassa, sul giallo. Pare piaccia molto anche ai gatti.

My first knitting project

I remember my granny teaching me knitting when I was - I think - ten or something. I've always been fascinated by knitting, above all because of the quality of the yarn: I love touching wool and such materials. I love looking at natural colors and fibers. Recently I took my needles and came back to knitting - after I finally found a pair of bamboo needles for only 3€ at the market (it was a sign). So I'm happy I finished my first knitting project! It's a braided necklace and I so love the idea of knitted jewelry! I'll surely keep my hands working. {I'm on Ravelry now, add me!}

Mi ricordo quando la nonna mi insegnava a lavorare a maglia, avevo forse una decina d'anni. Sono sempre stata affascinata soprattutto dai filati, dai colori naturali... Recentemente ho ripreso in mano i ferri, soprattutto perché ne ho trovato un paio di bamboo e li volevo da tanto tempo (3€ al mercato). Così ho finito il mio primo progetto: una collana intrecciata. Mi piace un sacco l'idea di un gioiello morbido!

I loved this vacation, but I'm also happy to be back to a normal routine. In our home is time for a detox and a dedication to fitness (soft fitness!). We make long walks and enjoy this incredibly warm italian weather. I'm dedicating to the house - cleaning, organizing, declutting. It's wonderful to be here. How are you? A different birthday

We spent it with my parents and sister (and the cats!), cooking and laughing together. We didn't have many things to use as decorations, so used plastic little animals (everyone had to choose one), so the table seemed a little forest. More on the precious gifts later!

L'abbiamo passato con i miei genitori e mia sorella (e i gatti!), cucinando e ridendo insieme. Non avevamo molto da usare per le decorazioni, perciò abbiamo deciso di usare dei piccoli animali di plastica (ognuno ne ha scelto uno), e la tavola sembrava una piccola foresta. Sui regali (preziosi!) scriverò a breve!

Poor poor little blog! My dear friends, I'm teaching and living a different routine in these days, just going out in the morning and coming home in the afternoon, tired and with no strength. I'm missing my home, my things, my crafting time... But we are working in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we are really lucky.

Yesterday was my birthday, but we postponed the celebration to the next Sunday, when the family will be together. More photos and news later!

We finally set in the house where we will live up to December. It is very beautiful, top floor, and Nina and Mirtillo spend their days walking on the roofs, happy and wild. Today it started raining, and it seems that Autumn has arrived. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Ci siamo finalmente stabiliti nella casetta in cui vivremo fino a dicembre. È molto bella, all'ultimo piano, e Nina e Mirtillo passano le giornate a passeggiare sui tetti, felici. Oggi ha iniziato a piovere, e sembra che l'Autunno sia arrivato.

Farewell, Summer

I must unfortunately say goodbye to Summer. Tomorrow we leave for Venice for our teaching at the University. We have arranged all the plants in the garden, cleaned the house, packed up. The cats will travel with us, of course, and we hope that Mirtillo will be fine (it is his first time in the car, and the trip lasts more than 3 hours!).

The shop will be closed indefinitely - I can not bring my sewing machine with me (loooong sigh).

This was one of the best summers of my life, I hope that Autumn will be just as nice! I'm planning to work, do my Pilates everyday and study new things. I'll let you updated with photos! Be well my friends.

Devo purtroppo dire addio all'Estate. Domani partiamo per Venezia per i nostri insegnamenti all'Università. Abbiamo sistemato tutte le piante in giardino, pulito la casa, fatto le valigie. I gatti ovviamente viaggeranno con noi, speriamo che Mirtillo non stia male (è la sua prima volta in macchina, e il viaggio dura più di 3 ore!).

Il negozietto resterà chiuso indefinitamente - non posso portare con me la macchina da cucire (luuuungo sospiro).

Questa è stata una delle estati più belle della mia vita, speriamo che l'Autunno lo sia altrettanto! Ho in animo di lavorare, fare Pilates tutti i giorni e studiare. Vi terrò aggiornati con tante foto! State bene.

I love snail mail! Claudia sent me a lot of treasuries (even Nina and Mirtillo were thrilled about them!). She makes beautiful rubber stamps by hand and creates stationery with them - you can find her shop here and her blog here. She crochets colorful rugs too. I ate the chocolate and I'm wearing the bracelet right now. Thank you Claudia!

Some other shoots of our vacation in Greece. In some way - even if the daily routine is here again - that week will be always with us. It will remind us another way of living is possible, and that Nature is something you have to take care of.

Alcuni scatti ancora della nostra vacanza in Grecia. Anche se la routine quotidiana ci ha nuovamente risucchiato, in qualche modo quella settimana resterà sempre con noi. CI ricorderà che un altro modo di vivere è possibile e che la Natura è qualcosa di cui prendersi sempre cura.

Ho passato la giornata davanti al computer: devo riprendere a lavorare anche se la Natura mi chiama. Intanto, in giardino, alcune sorprese mi aspettano. Wind and Water. My last week was made by this two elements. I spent a week in Greece by boat and made one of the most beautiful, relaxing and instructive holidays in my life. I learned so much and lived totally connected with Nature. Living in a boat teaches you a lot. A lot about water and electricity consumption, about our natural sleeping and eating rhythm and about how many things in life we DON'T need - like a large wardrobe, for example. Here some photos. I swear I didn't touch the colors with Photoshop!

Vento e acqua. La mia ultima settimana è stata dominata da questi due elementi. Ho passato una settimana in Grecia in barca e passato una delle più rilassanti, belle e istruttive vacanze della mia vita. Ho imparato tantissimo e vissuto a stretto contatto con la Natura. Vivere in barca insegna tantissimo. Tanto sul consumo di acqua ed elettricità, tanto sui nostri ritmi di sonno e nutrimento, e tanto sulle cose di cui NON abbiamo bisogno - come, ad esempio, un largo guardaroba. Ecco qualche foto. Giuro che non le ho ritoccate con Photoshop!

{Nina+Mirtillo photos are always ok!} Things have been very quiet here. We are leaving for a week on a friend's boat, in Greece. It's a new experience for me and I hope it will be ok. I'm excited about the idea of a complete disconnection from internet and electricity. I sewed a lot of things in the last days, I'll show you when I'll come back. Le cose qui sul blog sono molto silenziose. Siamo in partenza per la Grecia, dove vivremo - in barca - per una settimana. Si tratta di un'esperienza nuova per me, spero vada tutto bene.
