If you are reading this article, it is safe to assume you don’t own a hybrid car yet, or simply you have no intention of buying one in the very near future. I will however make the assumption that you seriously want to cut down the cost of running your car.

How To Cut Your Petrol Costs

1) "Cut The Speed": The old adage of 'Step on the Gas' has been empirically tested and found that this consumes fuel. The faster your drive the more fuel you burn and the more fuel you burn the larger the dent to your wallet.
Studies show you can cut up to 25% of your fuel consumption by simply reducing your speed from 70m/h to 50/m/h on long journeys.

2) Fill Up At The Cheapest Station: Thanks to www.petrolprices.com you can now find the cheapest fuel station in your local area, all you need is your postcode and they will do the rest.

3)What`s That Junk In Your Trunk?: Remove any unnecessary baggage in your car, as the heavier your car is the more fuel it consumes.

4) Check Your Tyres: Regularly check your tyres ensuring the correct air pressure is always maintained. Deflated tyres will cause more resistance thus uses up more fuel.

5) Share The Cost: Join a car sharing scheme or organise one if there isn’t one being offered in your area. These schemes have become popular over the last couple of years fuelled by the rise in fuel cost.

By being a savvy customer you can save a lot of money on your groceries.

5 Ways To Save Money On Groceries

1) Plan Ahead

Get into habit of making a shopping list and get into a habit of sticking to it.

Include essentials you will need for the following week/month, whilst making an allowance for little treats. This way you won’t feel like you are depriving yourself and you are less likely to be tempted to buy what’s not on the list.

So you’ve made a list that you happy with and its time to head off to the supermarket right? Well not quite yet. Now you need to find which supermarket is going to offer you the best value for your money. Simply register with Mysupermarkets a website that will let you compare the prices of like for like goods in all the major supermarkets ensuring you get the best value for your hard earned cash.
Registration is free .mysupermarkets.com

2) Swap Brands

It’s the Marketers job to keep you buying the same brand regardless of pricing. Your job, if you choose to accept it, is to try different brands, which cost less and decide if you notice any difference in quality. So instead of buying that famous brand of coffee, toilet roll, try out a cheaper alternative. The shop’s own brand is often cheaper although the packaging may be a bit off -putting. However you may be surprised that you don’t notice any difference in quality, rather the only difference will be in your wallet.

3) Buy One Get One Free

We all like the feeling of getting something for free and the Supermarkets take advantage of this. They are not giving you anything for free because they like you, rather they are tempting you to buy something you would not necessarily have wanted to.

So as tempting as this may sound, if its not on your list leave it alone.

4) Never, EVER, Shop When You’re Hungry

Shopping when hungry is not good for anyone’s wallet. The temptation of throwing that well prepared list is greater when your stomach is making those embarrassing sounds and the aroma of freshly baked bread is all you can smell. Naturally you will end up buying that loaf you never intended and justify it by buying two for the price of one.

5) Shop Before Closing Time

Just before closing is when the supermarkets’ are eager to sell off food items that have to be sold by that day. Because of this they will discount these items through out the day and with the biggest discounts just before closing. Kath Kelly, the teacher who set to live on a pound a day for a year, (and yes she did succeed), is a testament to this fact. You can always freeze the food if you not consuming it on that day, for use at a later date.

If the UK's energy supply regulator, Ofgem`s predictions are anything to go by then the future seems gloomy.
In a report published today, they have predicted that the average energy bill ( Gas and Electricity) which currently stands at £ 1,247 would rise to between £1421 and £1995 by 2020.

The good news though, according to Ofgem is you can cut your energy bill by up to £300 each year, by simply switching you energy supplier.
So just how easy is it to switch supplier and how can you further reduce your energy bill? Well check out our top tips below.

5 Top Tips On Saving On Your Energy Bill

1) Switch Suppiler

Use one of the many comparison sites to determine which suppiler is offering you the most savings.Once you are happy with the recommedend supplier go ahead and sign on. If you have used the comparison sites they will contact your current supplier letting them know of your decesion to switch.
The trick here is to use more than one site to ensure you get the best deal going.
You may also find you`re eligible for a cash-back payment from your current supplier.

2) Scrap The Paper Bill

By switching to online billing you can make further savings, rather than sticking to the traditional paper bills.
You may also find you save more by paying you bills using direct debit as this tends to qualify you for further discounts.

3) Go Green

Use energy effecient bulbs around your home. The price for these is more than the traditional 100w bulbs but reseach has shown you save approx £100 over the bulbs lifespan as they last up to 12 times longer than their predecessor.
Other simple steps include turning lights off when not in use, completely switching off appliances that you not using rather than leaving on standby and slightly turning down the heating thermostat. It all adds up.

4) Insulation,insulation

Keep the cold out, by installing double glazing and making sure your loft space is adquately insulated.

Find out if you are eligible for government assistance in the form of grants for insulating your home.Check out: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/

5) Check Your Meter Reading,

Check your meter regularly as most suppiliers use an estimated figure to determine what you owe. If you find you using less than the estimated reading, contact the supplier and get your bill updated so you not paying more than you should.Unfortunately this works the other way too, meaning you may find you using more than the estimated reading and in this case you end up paying more.

The question of saving money to most seems to trigger a sense of having to forgo some pleasures, but this does not have to be necessarily true. By making smarter decisions, you can still have life`s pleasures at half the price. So if you don`t want to give up drinking but know you are spending a lot on this then maybe its time to shop else where. This is true for most basic commodities that fill our shopping baskets.
So how do you do this without going from shop to shop looking for deals and special offers ?
This week we recommend my supermarkets, this gives you up to date comparisons between the major supermarkets on like for like goods, registration is free and the site will keep you updated with offers and deals in all supermarkets.

So before you nip to the shops next time check the site out and you will save yourself a lot of hassle and some cash.

 Free to Register: mysupermarket
