The Toshiba Satellite U205-S5022 must be the best so far from Toshiba. It has a very comfortable keyboard. Screen is absolutely bright and clear. Performance is great with duo processing power to meet all the demands of multitasking. This laptop is perfect for travelers and everyday use.

PCMag.com reviewed the Toshiba Satellite U205-S5022 laptop and wrote - "Up until now, the only first-rate ultraportable that Toshiba offered was the Portégé R200, but its hefty price tag and laggard performance were definite turn-offs. Dell Latitude D420

The Dell Latitude D420 is a 3-pound lightweight laptop made of magnesium alloy and packing an Intel Core Solo processor that the company claims will last seven hours on a charge. It also has a "WiFi catcher" switch that can serve as a hotspot sniffer without turning on the laptop.

The standard system comes with a Smart Card reader and Trusted Platform Module security technology, and customers can add biometric fingerprint readers as well.

Connectivity includes 3 USB ports, an IEEE 1394 port, and an SD card slot.

CNET.com reviewed the Dell Latitude D420 laptop and wrote - "Dell's business-minded Latitude notebooks have always been more about function than form, but the Latitude D420 manages to pack some decent specs into a package that is both small and attractive, making this ultraportable the smallest laptop Dell currently offers. With almost a full workday's worth of battery life, the Latitude D420 stands up admirably to other similarly configured systems in its price range, such as the Lenovo 3000 V100. The 3.7-pound system has just gotten an upgrade to include Intel's Core Duo processor, and at $1,534, it's a solid choice for both consumers and small business users who need power and portability at the same time."

Alienware Area-51 m5550

CNET reviewed the Alienware Area-51 m5550 and wrote - "Unlike its higher-end sibling, the Aurora mALX, the silver-and-black Alienware Area-51 m5550 has a subdued look that might blend in to the corporate landscape, were it not for the familiar glowing alien head on the lid. At 7 pounds, the Area-51 m5550 is also designed to be slightly more mobile than the mALX--though its disappointingly brief battery life is likely to keep users tethered to the wall socket. The laptop did post some of the best test scores we've seen on our application benchmarks, so if you're looking for raw power (and you can afford to pay more than two grand to get it), you won't go wrong with the Alienware Area-51 m5550. If you need a laptop you will run on its battery for extended periods, though, we recommend a similar and less expensive system, such as the HP Pavilion dv6000 or the PC Club Enpower ENP680."

PCMag.com also got their hands on an Alienware Area-51 m5550 and wrote - "Speed-wise, the m5550's performance is very promising. It produced some of the most impressive numbers I've seen on our SYSmark 2004 SE tests, with overall scores 5 to 8 percent better than those of computers with the fastest Intel Core Duo for mobile systems, such as the Dell XPS M1710 and the ASUS W2Jb. It helped that Alienware also slipped in 2GB of system RAM, as opposed to the 1GB found on the WinBook T231. You should see slight improvements in Adobe Photoshop rendering as well. The m5550 completed my scripts in 1 minute 2 seconds—some of the fastest numbers I've seen from any notebook."

Acer TravelMate C200

Infosyncworld.com got their hands on an Acer TravelMate C200 and wrote - "The 12.1-inch XGA display of the unit delivered the goods - indoors, at least - as far as display qualities were concerned, but what really catches the eye is the option of having the C200 configured with an Nvidia GeForce Go 6200 chipset with 256 MB of VRAM. As much as my inner geek is salivating, however, the more sensible option of a bog-standard Intel 915GM chipset is probably the better one as the processor of the C200 could never keep up with the Go 6200 anyway. Oh, and lest I forget, the Intel chipset can draw up to 128 MB of memory from the main banks."

The Acer TravelMate C200 series combines efficient computing and advanced technology. Based on the new Intel “Sonoma” platform that combines Intel(R) Pentium M processor and the Mobile Intel(R) 915PM/GM Express chipset, the TravelMate C200 series also features dual-channel system memory support — DDR2 533 MHz, 256/512MB scalable to 2GB — and a ATA/100 Hard Disk drive offers a storage capacity of up to 100GB. All models feature a slot loading DVD Dual double layer burner or DVD/CD-RW (tray) and a 4-in-1 card reader that supports Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick(R), and Memory Stick PRO(TM) standards.

Tabletpcreviewspot.com also got their hands on an Acer TravelMate C200 and was really impressed by this tablet pc. They summarized - "If had to get a laptop tomorrow that runs windows, I'd buy this Acer, no question, on layout alone. There is no other notebook (with a keyboard) on the market that gives an alternative layout from the common big palm rest with keyboard at back' and touch-pad' design. Alternatively I'd seriously consider a Slate option with no keyboard, provided it had built-in CD."

Acer Aspire 5672WLMi Laptop 15.4" TFT Widescreen - 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo Processor T2300

CNET.com reviewed the Acer Aspire 5672WLMi laptop and wrote - "Has a core duo processor, which is considerably more efficient than some similarly priced notebooks. By way of comparison, the typical cost of a product with this desirable a processor is $1,845. Also, this notebook has 1 GB RAM, which is considerably more than some similarly priced notebooks. By way of comparison, the typical cost of a product with this ample a RAM is $2,120."

The Acer Aspire 5672WLMi Laptop also features a 15.4" TFT Widescreen TFT, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics with 128MB of video memory, built in WiFi and Bluetooth capability.

Apple MacBook

Pocket-lint.co.uk recently reviewed the new Apple MacBook and seemed to be impressed with the upgrades.

They wrote - "'Gone is the catch that keeps the lid shut, and it has been replaced with a magnet like the MagSafe Power adapter found on the MacBook Pro. What this means is that where a catch would be now sits a digital camera. As for performance the increased speed is certainly noticeable over our PowerBook G5 we use in the office. "

The three models offer some variations between them being processor speed (1.83GHz to 2GHz) and hard drive space (80GB to 120GB).

The MacBook also features Bluetooth, firewire, USB 2.0 sockets, Wi-Fi and a Gigabit Ethernet connection.

Dell Inspiron E1505 Notebook

PCWorld.com reviewed the Dell Inspiron E1505 notebook and wrote -"Dell's newest budget entertainment notebook falls somewhere between the company's high-end Inspiron E1705 (8.2 pounds; 17-inch screen) and its travel notebook, the Inspiron 710m (4.2 pounds; 12.1-inch wide-aspect screen). A nice compromise, the Inspiron E1505 weighs 6.5 pounds and has a 15.4-inch wide screen; its keyboard is larger than the 710m's, as well. It's also a fairly good multimedia notebook for nongamers on a budget."

The notebook may be equipped with a 1.66-GHz Core Duo T2300 processor and 1GB of RAM. It also comes with Windows Media Center Edition. An optional external USB TV tuner ($104) turns the notebook into a portable TV. A list of other add-ons are available from Dell.

Dell Inspiron 1300 Notebook Computer

MobileTechReview.com reviewed the Dell Inspiron 1300 notebook computer and wrote - "The 1300 is a customizable notebook that's built to order, so the price and features will depend on what you pick when you buy. The mode we used for this review has an Intel Celeron M360 processor running at 1.5GHz, a 60GB hard disk at 5400RPM, 512mb of RAM, a nice 15.4" Widescreen display, and to top it all off, 802.11a/b/g WiFi.The Inspiron 1300 has set the benchmark for budget notebooks for a while yet, with it's solid performance and even better price."

People who are looking to get the least expensive notebook should consider the Dell Inspiron 1300. I find it's specs substantial for a first laptop and is also perfect for students who just need to type essays and surf the web. Don't forget your WiFi for frequenting your favorite hotspots.

The Dell Inspiron 1300 starts at $599 and you can customize it with a lot of neat additional features. At such a low base price, I have no complaints.

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 Laptop

Laptopmag.com reviewed the Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 laptop and wrote - "At the heart of the Qosmio G35 is Intel’s 1.83-GHz Core Duo Processor T2400, 1GB of DDR2 memory, and an Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 video controller with 256MB of GDDR2 graphics memory. The system turned in a good score of 221 on our MobileMark 2005 test. The 3DMark03 score of 3,415 isn’t great, but the G35 should have no trouble handling most 3D games in low resolution. The battery supplied only 1 hour and 56 minutes of juice; however, this system wasn’t designed to be used unplugged."

They concluded their review writing - "At $2,399, the Qosmio G35-AV600 is pricey, but this is no ordinary notebook. Armed with a dual-core processor, lots of hard drive space, and more multimedia features than you’ll find in any other laptop, this upgrade is hands-down the best desktop replacement/entertainment center combo you can buy."

Dell XPS M1710 Power Laptop

CNET editors posted their laptop review of the Dell XPS M1710. They reported very impressive features such as "best-in-class gaming performance; top-shelf processor and graphics engine; attractive illuminated case; solid multimedia features; full assortment of ports and connections".

PCMag also reviewed the Dell XPS M1710 and wrote "The first red gaming notebook from Dell and the fastest mobile gaming rig we've tested, thanks to a new graphics chip and a dual-core processor".

Dell boasts about the the Xtreme Preformance System. Owners say that Dell XPS M1710 is extremely fast for both system use and also gaming use. Loads are almost instant too.

This laptop is probably the best laptop ever made. It is ridiculously fast and has mediadirect for watching DVDs. You also get an impressive lineup of graphics cards and has up to 4 gigs of ram. Extreme specs for a laptop and a dream machine for computer gaming.

You can describe the Dell XPS M1710 Power Laptop in one word - AWESOME.

PCWorld posted their picks for their Top 5 Power Laptops.
They wrote that - 'These laptops are on the heavy side, but they're ideal replacements for desktop PCs'.

I wonder what happened to the Dell XPS series as I don't see a single Dell laptop on the list. And I just bought a Dell XPS last December!

Of all the laptops on the top 5 list, only the Acer Aspire is priced below $2000. So if you want to spend a lot of cash on computers then you got to check them out.

As for me- I'll stick with my Dell XPS laptop.
