Well if I've said it once I've said it a hundred times. I love fashion on a budget and if it's free so much the better for me. You just can't deny high quality when you see it and if it's on sale then you need to pick that outfit up as soon as possible before it goes like hotcakes. I was hanging out with a friend when she told me what an awesome group Lelutka had and that they had recently given out some wonderful dresses for gifts this holiday season.

Lord knows I love to look elegant and have my high-end days but these dresses were simply fabulously crafted and such a steal and find! The group is currently open without a fee so I suggest you join soon to get these little numbers.

Who said all freebies were ugly? They obviously weren't running in the right circles or with the right crowd because anyone would be proud to have these grace their inventory and their avatar. Enjoy everyone!

All right. If you've heard to talk and been reading up on the various fashion blogs in second life you know that over 200 designers have decided to join in the Peace on Earth gridwide hunt! Now this is not just plain dollarbies or freebies- but really high quality items that you're sure to love. While I was hunting I came across this awesome cuddle lounger from Mudhoney and now I'm in love!

Now that wasn't all I came away with. If you haven't heard let me be the first to tell you that there are a few stores that are participating in the So 2010 50L Sale. As most of you know now, SuperElite Modeling Agency is looking for the Best Females and Males models of the Grid and You can be one of them !!

We recently have crowned our Miss Autumn, (name) and Mister Autumn, (name). But the challenge is just beggining because we still have 3 crowns for you !

STEP 2 - 25 female and 25 male Models will be selected from these entries for a live audition callback. Models should wear a Casual then a Formal outfit and style themselves in a way they believe represents the image of Fashion. This first live audition will be a runway walk.

1st live audition : 18th DECEMBER 2009 - Two casting times : 12 PM or 3 PM SLT

PAY ATTENTION : There will be NO rescheduling of casting auditions made for individuals. So please mark these days and times if you are interested in joining.

STEP 3 - You will receive an invitation to join "SuperElite SuperSearch" Group. You will have to be in this group to join the contest because all notices and results will be announced in this group.

STEP 4 - Pool will narrow down to 20 Models from this first live audition : 10 females & 10 males. Those finalists will enter in the finalists group then have to prepare their second live audition based on a theme (example : "A summer under of the delights of east").

2nd live audition : 16th JANUARY 2010 at 1 PM SLT

STEP 5 - The finalists will walk in a public runway show, wearing their own composition, each participant will have to show his faculties of imagination, creativity and style, as well as his professional capacities and modeling skills. It is all about the beauty you create with your meticulous care of yourselves and your wardrobe. Your professionalism and your dedication.

Models will be judged by a panel of professionals in the modeling and fashion industries, not only on their skills to represent the subject/theme but also on their practice and techniques of the runway.
At the end of this audition, the jury will then choose the female and male Model which will have best known how to find the perfect symbiosis of the professionalism, the elegance and the beauty and showed the qualities waited to be the brand image of the SuperElite Modeling Agency.
The 2 winners will be crowned as "Miss (season)" and "Mr. SE (season)".

Show off your style with Apparence Skins & Shapes as we search for a super stylist to win a contract with Apparence and AVENUE Magazine. Over the next 8 weeks, weekly winners will be selected leading up to one final grand prize winner. This is your chance to show off your styling, modeling and photography skills and get a head start in the fashion industry.

RULES :
--------
1. Choose a shape and skin from Apparence and style it up any way you like it and photograph the look you've created. Shapes may be modified ONLY if it is necessary to fit the clothing (e.g. breasts, hips and butt).

2. Each person is allowed to submit multiple photos, but only once per week. Those found submitting more then one photo a week will be disqualified. Each entry has to be either a different shape and/or skin from Apparence i.e. same skin with a different shape or same shape with a different skin.

3. Photos may be edited (photoshop, etc) but may not drastically distort the shape and skin.

4. Join the Apparence flickr group ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/apparence/) to submit/upload your entry with the following details :

Who said that you have to cover up for fall? I know I sure didn't! I was sitting at home the other day, hot as hell and annoyed with the fact that my clothes kept getting in the way. [no I didn't end up taking it all off tyvm.] Prims are a marvelous thing, especially on an outfit as it can add class, style and just that extra bit of something that other layer-only outfits seem to lack. I love them to death except when the designer ends up creating an outfit only a stick could squeeze their bony behinds into [not all us are a size -10 you know!]. But I'm digressing- again- so let me get back to my point. I was sitting around, annoyed with my oh-so-new and shiny outfit [the product of another successful fashion venture I might add!] when I decided to risk my perfectly proportioned pixels [yes my pixels are perfect!] in a war against the lag to take a peek at my favorite designer's store- LeeZu! Yes I know what some of you may be thinking: I've nearly built a virtual and blogging shrine to her designs but I'm here to tell you about fashion and quality and these designs ARE quality soooooo.....you'll just have to get over it!

Anyhoo, I was battling the lag when- wouldn't you know it!- I ran smack damn into a huge wall and fell flat on my behind. After collecting my wits and spare change before the crazy hobos could attack, I got up to curse the wall and everything else in that store. Why in the world do they make everything high rez nowadays?! Don't you all know that not all of us- the vast majority actually- do not have super computers that we hand-built! I can barely get my email open without causing a major meltdown on my computer, and no it's not old, I'm just bad. [laughs] So there I was, taking a breath to spew some major hate on that sadistic prim they like to call a wall when I saw it! It was magical, pure heaven! My eyes glazed over- yes there was definitely some glaze-age going on- and my mouth started to water (I just thank god I didn't start drooling.) It was LeeZu's Margo Jacket and I was bowled over, I'm not quite sure how I missed this- probably on one of those day I was walking through a sea of grey because my graphics card had gone on strike and refused to help rez anything on my screen! But as they say, it was better late than never!

The minute I saw this outfit an entire look came to me in a dream, okay it was during my hallucinating mushroom moments but all the same it came to me! I was in shock and in pleasure at this look and decided that it was a sign that I had to create it as soon as possible. Wouldn't you believe it that it took me all of three days to find everything I needed to style this outfit. Sounds unbelievable doesn't it? Well it's not. I typically spend quite a time just LOOKING for things to fit a style and not saving up for the actual outfit. I chose small things with red highlights to accentuate my skin and give it that great goth/punk feel.

On this quest I wanted to punk it up and go with something that was so unconventional it would make even the most hardcore conservative stand up and say "I need that look!" because isn't that what selling clothes and designs is all about? Now there were several ways I could've taken it- a nice classic look or this style. I was in writers block mode so I tried to go out of the box to get my juices flowing and I think I succeeded rather beautifully!

Positively Overwhelming

In one of my many jaunts across the countless shopping districts littering the second life grid that caters to the numerous other fashion addicts like myself, I came across an outfit that simply stole my breath away the moment my eyes gazed upon it. It was sleek, chic, and truly fashionable. It had a flair to it that just screamed high quality and the prims that went along with the dress were well placed and didn't overwhelm the outfit as one might think upon first glance. I'm talking about LeeZu's Natascha Black Flexi Dress. This dress was simple yet had a touch of sass and style that was undeniable to even the most critical fashionista and fashion critique! The dress is modifiable of course so that you can adjust the prims to better fit and suit your avatar shape and contours. I was worried that the skirt would be a bit to short to wear along with my avatar- one of my shapes is tall with long legs- but the worry was completely unfounded!

The shoulder prims look as if they may overpower the outfit and make it look cheap and tacky rather than simple and chic but once on your avatar and stylized with the right hair and a few simple accessories and shoes, or maybe knee high black boots, it looks simply wonderful. It flatters my shape by drawing attention to my small waist and the shortness of the skirt shows off my legs beautifully without being vulgar or having any touch of the "tramp look". I decided to dress it up with some nice heels by Annex and, as you can see, I'm ready for a night on the town with some girlfriends or with a special date at a nice and classy restaurant.

High Fashion Rebel Without a Cause

I personally believe that all women have a bit of sex kitten in them. You know what I mean girls- the sexy, sensual side that loves nothing more than to dress in those short skirts or shorts, thigh contouring pants, and cute tops that show just a HINT of midriff. If you haven't had the urge then you are long overdue! I came across this one outfit in one my many jaunts across the second life fahion grid and despite the cost (L$ 600 or so I believe) I just couldn't resist and decided it was high time I splurge a little on myself. Having a budget is fine and dandy and even neccessary if you don't want to find yourself in debt, but every now and again a girl just has to let go and live a little. Buy one of those amazingly high priced pumps you've been dying to try on for ages! You saved your buns off and it's time to reap the rewards.

Now on to this nice little number here! This is LeeZu!'s Au revoir de Sade Jacket coupled with her Zlema Black Hotpants. Now, these are two separate items that I felt looked fabulous together. It gave that mysterious and haute couture look while adding to the sex kitten within me. I love showing off my legs and and sometimes even my midriff when the time calls for it- bikinis, lingerie, and other unmentionables. [Giggles] This outfit fit my style perfectly. It has a bit of eccentric essence to it that I just absolutely love and adore! As you can see the jacket has perfectly designed and detailed prims for the color and latches that closes the collar around my neck. Not only are the prims beautifully detailed but so is the fabric of the jacket itself. It's patterend as you can see and comes in a variety of colors that one can choose from when purchasing including black, tan, red, and so much more. And this jacket is not just for women but men as well! With every purchase you get a male and female version of the jacket- why she decided to sell it this way I will never know but it's certainly nice to see that she has a nice selection for men as well. So guys don't be afraid to show off those six packs! You definitely earned it after all those nights at the gym! The hotpants are scandalously short, which appealed to the rebel inside of me right away. The detailing on the front of the pants are impeccable and I can't say I have seen better craftsmanship thus far as with LeeZu!'s designs. Definitely an outfit that has recieved my firm and happy seal of approval!

I was in a purrfect mood today and had to bust out my sexy neko outfit and tail. Something about dressing at a neko upon occassion brings out the playful and fun loving side of me where I can let loose and go wild with my personality and creativity. I find that things flow better and ideas come a lot more readily than they otherwise would if I had been wearing a suit- go figure! I think that every female and male must have at least ONE neko outfit, tail and ears stored away in their inventory whether they want to admit it or not.

Neko is not just a style but has become a virtual culture within second life that is undeniable and plain to see in every facet of our SL lives. I'm sure everyone has seen them prancing around sims, swiping people with their animated tails, or purring with every other breath. If you haven't then I would have to ask where in the world you've been living- under a rock?! Some despise the neko culture and fashion- although I fail to see why with all the cute and sassy items that are available to customize your look- and vow never to wear a tail as long as they live because it somehow makes them look as if they would like to be an animal. I'm not so sure about that. When I wear my ears and tail I don't start thinking of myself as a cat or animal that is suddenly going to get down on all fours and rub against people's legs while begging to be petted, or sit down and start awkwardly licking myself in places that I would have dislodge my ribs to reach! I will say that a new attitude does present itself when I get dressed- a sensual, playful, loving side that I just can't deny. Some get an emo vibe when they get dressed, and others get a "give'em hell" attitude. Whichever you're drawn to, you can't deny the emotional effects that this culture and style has on people in second life.

If you're looking for a new look or want to give it a try, there are a plethora of neko shops lining the numerous streets of second life and there is a shop on nearly every shopping SIM in SL. I've looked through many and there are only a few quality that I really do patronize for my needs such as Deviant Kitty or Bitch Tail. The outfit above is Angel Kitty from Bitch tail which includes the ears, tail, boomers (feet), and outfit itself. The sexy hair is from Magicka (one of my favorite hair shops). I actually won this outfit at a midnight mania board which was a true prize! Bitch Tail has become practically it's own empire and is certainly a place for every neko lover or addict. Happy Shopping! Dress for the Job You Want

As some have you may have read in a previously written post of mine, I am a businesswoman with the emphasis on woman. I know the politically correct term would be businessperson but I always liked the distinction between men and women and while I can understand the need to blend them together and take away any classifying or identifying features or characteristics I also enjoy being a woman so have no plans on stopping anytime soon. Now as a professional woman in SL there are times that I have to don the traditional blue pinstripe suit with a nice clean bob and practical pumps. It's hard to be taken seriously if I'm sitting in a business meeting or interview wearing my neko outfit or a barely there dress that is two shakes away from revealing my non-intellectual assets to everyone within camming distance. I do find it sad that there are some people who don't take the time to put themselves together for a business luncheon or interview. I mean how can you honestly talk about how professional and capable you are when you're wearing a tell and ears with light up shoes or a pair of shorts and sandals? Would you hire yourself dressed like that? Don't be biased and answer honestly.

But seeing as this is second life the usual social norms that are held up to standard in RL are relaxed a lot more. Why would you want to dress up for a virtual job? It's not as important as a RL one so it shouldn't really matter. It doesn't matter that the person trying to hire me is shelling out RL USD and paying me for my performance and professionalism. [rolls eyes here] I have seen physical presentation- appearance- make and break deals and job opportunities for many a SLer. Hell I have fired and refused to hire people based just on how they came to the interview. And let me mention that this all happened OUTSIDE the fashion and modeling industry. If it's that bad in an average job outside of fashion just imagine how more intense it is here. I learned first hand as a model but I also learned what it was like from the corporate standpoint when I helped an old friend get his agency up and running. We would talk about how he got clients and I saw how meticulous he was with not only his appearance but the appearance of his office. Every piece and every outfit was carefully chosen and considered before he bought it or wore it for a certain occasions and that made me respect what other agency owners do and how much thought they really do put behind their business and how they are seen by the public.

I have also seen some girls come to casting so ill prepared it made me wince just to watch them walk down the runway with badly chosen poses to fit the outfit they were wearing, attachments that needed editing, a walk that was as old as SL itself and so much more. Now this may be due to their inexperience in the fashion world and can be excused somewhat because I do know how hard it is to get started with everyone so busy that they can't spare a moment or two to hand out a bit of kind and constructive advice to new models. I try to give a bit of help when I can without sounding rude or snobbish, although it's hard- not because I am but because you have to choose your words extremely carefully so as not to bruise some very fragile egos. I always wondered how the egos here could be so fragile but so large but I suppose that is one of those things that will remain a mystery throughout time.

You may see this post as another of my lunatic rants or lectures but it's not. I like to inform people and give them advice and tips as much as I can. You cannot imagine how many small things we take for granted within second life without realizing it or understanding why. Why do we feel that because this is a virtual world that our words of commitment mean less than those made in real? I'm sure many of you know what I speak of when I mention this. You'll make an appointment or you'll commit to a rehearsal when you're not as sure of your availability as you let on and then suddenly what you were HOPING wouldn't interfere finally does on the big day of the show and you leave them one model short. Real comes first, we all have heard this mantra several times before and I, myself, use it on a daily basis. I make sure that through whatever commitment that I make in anything on second life that they know that it will always come first. But that doesn't mean that I do not try to be there on time and do my best to make my deadline. I just hate to see when a person is 1 hour late and completely unapologetic that they have inconvenienced an entire room of people by their absence. They look around and wonder why people begrudge them and mutter obscenities under their breaths; I have never done such a thing [coughs] but I have seen it.

So be sure to take the time out of your schedule to get truly prepared when doing business in second life. This may be a virtual world but it deserves the same quality and thought you would give in any other business in real. It may take an hour- in my case two [laughs] but it all pays off in the end when your reputation begins to proceed you for your quality performance and appearance. I'll off with two sayings and while they may be cliched they are very true and carry enough wisdom to rival yoda. "People don't hire a resume, they are hiring you through your ability to present yourself. If that weren't true then we wouldn't really need interviews would we?"

Eccentric Sophisticate

So now that I have given a long overdue lecture on important business practices in keeping up your appearance let me loosen up. [pulls off her tweed jacket and puts an a shiny new pair of pink shades] What? I did say I was going to get loose! [laughs] As you can see from the photo above I got a brand new suit to spice up my professional wardrobe. As a professional female in the fashion industry it's expected that one has to have impeccable taste, style and fashion sense. For some this may seem a bit over the top in the way of a suit but to others it could be just the right amount of pizzazz without tripping over into garish and obscenely ostentatious. As you can see from evidence that it has found a very cozy- albeit tight [had to practically force the sucker in there!- home in my inventory.

Let me tell you how much this outfit from Beauty Avatar caught my eye. I hate pink and I don't mean a mild distaste or just not my preference although both of those could apply to what I think of the color but I HATE pink. So on a normal basis this outfit would've gotten nothing but my disdain and an upturned nose as I walked right past it and probably into a wall or door (hard to watch where you're going while your nose is stuck in the air. I should know, tried!) But this outfit got my attention right away which is probably what it was meant to do since it is quite a loud color all on it's own. But coupled with the design of it, it fit perfectly and wasn't as terrible as you would think upon first glance. It took me a few minutes to looking at it to finally understand the point of view the designer was coming from when they created this marvelous piece. Allow me to explain: The color alone is a bold choice and I think anything that was even bolder would've just ruined the entire look that the designer was going for. But this one is just right. The design and cut of the suit is both simple and unique in the fact that the huge black buttons adds some great contrast to this already interesting design. The cut is simple and shows off my figure to perfection, short skirts to highlight my legs (always a good feature for any skirt- a must really) and the stockings add something extra to the mix. Now you can go with or without the stockings; I just wore them so that you may get the full effect of this suit and enjoy it as it was meant to be enoyed. I actually like to stockings as it gives this already clean design a rebel feel to it. It flouts the traditional suit, puts a spin on it and makes it creative and unique while staying within the bounds of good taste and style.

If you're not into the suit and tie or the usual pinstripe pencil skirt and suit jacket maybe this will appeal to the rebel and creative genius in you- I know it did for me. Some earrings, a nice black handbag, popping shoes, or some awesome large framed shades completes the look to a T. Enjoy ladies!

Holiday Glam Goddess

Recently I was invited to an awesome trip and party with a group of really great gal pals for a holiday party and I had a blast! As we go through our daily lives the holidays creep ever closer before it gets ready to pounce and there are many things that come to mind when you think of the winter holidays such as food, friends, family, wine, resolutions, gifts, parties, and all the fabulous new clothes that come with a new season! If you're of the more childish inclined you will probably end up dressed as santa's helper just to get a chuckle or two- those pointed shoes only come in style once a year after all so why not take full advantage of them?!

But I'm not here to talk about my fetish for Christmas apparel but more to talk about this wonderful little number from Modern Gypsy that brought to mind the holiday spirit but with a touch of glamor and chicness that I just couldn't pass up on. The texture of the dress is a ruffled chiffon that surprisingly does not make you look shapeless but hugs your body so lovingly with the help of the cinched thick waistline integrated in the dress. The gold brings to mind the starry night sky and festive colors of the new years parties or fully decorated Christmas trees that shine as bright as the sun. I decided to go all out with the gold and got a pair of Gold pumps from Armidi and a wonderfully crafted large garnet necklace that might as well have been designed just for that dress. Definitely a look that one should have in their closets to get ready for all those holiday shindigs. Do you think you can honestly resist such a luscious design?!

Now I have to wonder who doesn't want to be a Rockstar in this day and age? I would think that even the most hardcore bookworm has fantasies of standing in front of an adoring crowd as millions scream his/her name with piercing shrieks of wanting and unrequited love. I know that I've had these feelings and dreams a time or two myself- even going so far as to manifest itself physically when I'm standing on top of my bed holding a hairbrush as my loose curls whip across my face while I attempt to give myself whiplash and lip singing to the latest jams. [Frowns at the reader] Hey I'm sure you've done something similar as well so stop that snickering over there! But unfortunately unlike the real rockstars I was left stranded on the street without a ride after my buddies forgot me and headed back home. How they didn't know I wasn't in the car is anyone's guess but there it is folks. You can be sure that even though I was without a car and only had 1L to my name I was rocking that roadside curb as I tried to hitch a ride back south.

As a model I get a bit of that fame and glory even if sometimes I don't even realize it or can't fully appreciate it with all the work I have to do constantly that overrides that feeling of joy and exalt at times. It's been getting a bit chilly lately as the winter season crawls upon us and turns our blood to ice but I wasn't feeling a thing with my new faux fur coat from Aoharu. It is definitely bound to keep you warm and stylish in even those most frigid of temperatures. Unfortunately for me I had decided to go with a stylish and daring short over the eye sweep cut from MADesigns and my neck was feeling a bit of the wind's bite. I was never one for the whole flashy and ostentatious look so I decided to go with the Glam Goddess Rocker rather than the all out wild child rocker. It's a look anyone can pull off- staying casual yet stylish and up-t0-date in this nice cool piece. Who says you have to be all flash and glitter to rock it out?

A Little Fall Shopping

After a bit of hiatus - unwanted but necessary hiatus - I have finally made it back and not a moment too soon! Unfortunately real work dragged me kicking and screaming from my work and writings but after a few well placed kicks and KO punches I am back and action and back with a vengeance! I would like to say what a wonderful job that all the contributors are doing for the website and how I have seen things improving over time and keeping our readers informed. I am so proud and happy to say that I work with such talented individuals that are so dedicated to seeing that you are well informed!

Now you may be wondering what I have been up to or if I have any more juicy tidbits for you today and I have not come here to disappoint! It's fall and Halloween, my second favorite holiday, is rolling around and getting nearer by the minute so I decided it was time to go shopping for a costume and do a bit of window shopping while I was at it. Now everyone knows that a girl cannot go shopping without looking her best so I donned my new sweater dress from Chantkare, cinching that wonderfully wide brown belt with it's beautifully crafted gold buckle that added just the right touch of sophisticated and understated elegance to such a casual piece. It's been a bit nippy outside so I had to break out the boots- the ones I've been dying to wear on such an occassion- from Maitreya that just helped complete the look. With such a simple outfit I had to go big with the jewelry and adorned myself with Paper Couture's Faceted Dark Garnet necklace and earrings after putting my hair up in two neat buns found at Deviant Kitties for a whopping L$75! [Do I know how to bargain shop or what?!]

I was definitely warm and comfy in this ensemble as I walked through the fashion district of the Rodeo Drive and Bare Roses- the store everyone has to visit in their search for the perfect Halloween costume bound to blow everyone out of the water and scare the dickens out of every man, woman, and prim baby! OMG! That's Audacious!

Well I recently rejoined Fashion consolidated at the behest of a friend of mine when they sent me some information on a new and upcoming designer and store that was having a special for the group memebers. It all interested me so I went to take a look- gift card in hand. I really didn't go to the store expecting much to be honest as I can be a bit wary of new designers and the quality of their designs. I've become a bit of a snob when it comes to the clothes I wear I'll admit it sadly enough. But I was pleasantly surprised and nearly attacked the store for the designs! There were a few that I didn't interest me over much but I came across a few sexy dresses and a lingerie piece. As I had just come back from Blacklace I was on a mission to upgrade and add to my meager collection of lingerie and bought the first one that caught my attention and eyes- not that I didn't consider carefully from the several selections available [I'm not an idiot!]

I was sad to see that the store didn't have a lot of selections, not that it wasn't bare- far from it! One could tell upon entering that it was a new and upcoming store- new kid on the block in other words- and was getting their name out there. But I was not disappointed and I can assure you that you will not be either. I look forward to seeing what more this designer has up her sleeve for her customers because I'll be one of the first lining up to get a piece of the action!!! This set gave me the feel of being part ballerina and part vixen [Laughs and Grins]- certainly an interesting image and mix to say the least. And yes, again I chose red for this particular selection. I figure if I'm going to wear something sexy I might as well make it the color of passion! Keep a look out for this designer as she prepares to take the fashion world by storm!

Everyone who is anyone has heard those words that make every female light up with shopping lust and men just sigh and light up with plain old lust. [laughs] I recently won a contest and received a gift card and couldn't wait to use it! Unfortunately I could only afford one outfit- I know, such injustice! I was standing in that store for over an hour switching my cam between every item about to blow up from the overload of all the beautiful lingerie lining the walls but gladly for me I made it out of the store alive and with a wonderful purchase that I'm ecstatic to share with everyone tonight. Blacklace's Red Satin & Lace Diva set caught my eye almost immediately when I saw it. After much debate I knew that I just couldn't pass up such a juicy morsel.

I absolutely adore red. Something about the passion and heated emotions that it brings out in me just draws me right in and I would have an entire wardrobe in nothing but red if it didn't send me to the nut house! [Grins]

It took me a bit of shopping on Xstreet but I finally found a set of pearls [Black Knotted & Long beads necklace] that fit my style and the look I had been aiming for perfectly. It gave a bit of class and sophistication with such a sensual and luscious outfit. The cincher of the outfit hugged my curves so lovingly and set off my figure to perfection, outlining it well. I completed the look with a pair of earrings [Timeless Pear Earrings] from Earthstones Jewelry. It was so difficult to just choose one piece of jewelry for this particular set because there are so many possibilities that can be reached. A nice pearl choker with long hair over the shoulder or a beautifully crafted updo can make it equally luxurious. I chose a short cut for my hair style to show off the beautiful pearls adorning my ears.

Lingerie is something that we all overlook sometimes in SL I believe, especially if one might be single such as myself. You ask yourself, what's the point if you don't intend to ever really do anything or have no plans to do so? And unlike in real it's hardly ever possible to wear such lingerie under our normal casual clothes or dresses so you can't even brag [guess what I'm wearing underneath this dress!]. But it's something that I believe should be used a lot more often, single or not! Heck walk around your apartment in lingerie if you want to get your money's worth! But if you don't have a great set in your inventory then I advise you to run- not walk- to your nearest boutique and get yourself some!

Well I've been getting a lot of questions for people that are looking to get into this industry and even heard a few horror stories that would've put me off of modeling for life if I had been in that person's jimmy choo's! It's so hard to know what's real and what's not in second life when you're just starting out so I'm going to answer a few questions that I know many have asked time and time again.

1. I want to be a model so badly but I don't have any L to get a high quality skin or clothes. What should I do?

That can be a tough one and has many possible answers really. You're not going to get by in the professional world of modeling off of freebies- sorry it's a fact. You will have to spend lindens and if you are wary of purchasing lindens through market exchange then the only other option is to get an SL job. Now as a new second life resident the pickings for jobs are slim as some places only allow you to apply if you are a certain age- been in sl for X of days/weeks/months. But there are those that don't require it so you might want to check out the classifieds for more information. Now while you may not reach any top of the food chains with freebies it is a great way to start so you're not walking around in an avatar that you got on your rez day. Get a modifiable skin (if it's copy even better) and start experiementing with your look. Make it your own!

2. I have the shape and clothes now how do I get a job as a model??

Another question with several possible avenues to explore. There are different types of jobs out there for models such as print, runway and live/in-store modeling, or commercial/television. The easiest would probably be an in-store model and it's not a very hard job. I think a few good models started off this way. It's a great way to get clothes and extra cash. Another way is to sign with an agency. This can sometimes be expensive depending on your budget but it's definitely a perferred method for many models. Being represented sends a message to all designers that you are serious about your work and aspirations in this field. Agencies usually send out notices on contests, set up fashion shows, castings, job opportunities with various designers, etc. so it is definitely something you may want to look into.

3. Modeling Academies are so expensive! Do I really need it?!

Formal training is not neccessarily required but it's definitely perferred by agencies that you sign with. Some agencies- like MPI Model Management- actually provide training for their signed models once they are accepted into the agency and cannot accept work or begin working officially until they meet the specified requirements of that particular agency. Having an academy name in your resume is nice and adds to the prestige of things but no it's not neccessary. Most of what I have learned has been outside of the classroom from actually doing it and speaking with others. If you are not up to investing into academy training feel free to drop by the Model Workshops- free weekly seminars for models and aspiring models where the industry, tips, information, news is discussed or lectures given by the established working models and agency owners- to get information and to learn more on this career. Attend fashion shows, read SL fashion magazines to stay abreast on the news within the fashion world. Also join the Best of SL readers group and Starwalkers- two awesome groups for anyone that wishes to make it here.

4. I want to join an academy to get formal training but how do I make sure that they are not a scam that will run off with my money?

Gawd that's the worst. There are so many scams in SL because everyone wants a quick buck and it's hard to know the legitimate companies out there but it's not impossible! If you have a school or schools in mind be sure to drop by their location to check out the grounds. Take a look at their application (don't fill it out yet) and the classes they are offering and the topics that it covers. Talk to the owners and/or instructors about the course and how intensive it is, how does the scheduling go, do they have any post graduate help, etc. Another good idea is to ask for a few alumni of their academy and/or current students to get their take on things and their experience with it. Agency Report is also a great resource tool to see reviews of that school or program to make sure you are getting your money's worth.

5. I'm looking for an agency to sign with, how do I know what to look for or which ones are the right ones to join?

This is actually a very simply answered question albeit a long one. As I said above talk to the staff and models that are signed with that agency. Take a look at Agency Report to get reviews, things can be quite revealing on that site and it's a gold mine of information. Be sure to check out how long they have been open but also how active they have been. What have they done recently- shows that they have put on, jobs that they have gotten models, etc. Visit their agency in-world to take a look around- a lot can be said to how much care is put into their building and location.

6. Do models make a lot of money in SL?

Hmm...how best to answer this question of yours...How about I get all the rest of the models to say it with me: No Way in Hell! You've heard me say it before and I'll say it for those in the back with cotton in their ears, you will not make a ton of money being a model in second life- it's a fact of life. Whether you get paid in L or items depends on the agency and their budget and revenue. It can take quite a bit to run an agency- paying staff, tier fees, advertising, (maybe models). And well established models will tell you that you can get paid anywhere from 0 (the outfits that you wear) to 1K per show, photo shoot, or in-store modeling.

7. Why do we need tons of skin to be a good model?

I'm assuming that if you asked this question then you are REALLY to not only this industry but SL as well. If you haven't noticed by now, skin in SL comes in varying shades and make up options- facial hair for men- so you have to choose several skins to get a variety of make up to fit the outfits that you wear. For instance, you do not want to wear a sunny yellow dress with a pale-as-computer-paper goth skin. That may be your every day look but it won't work for that particular outfit so you have to change things up. It's just like wearing your hair up with an elegant gown- it accentuates the design you're wearing. So it's necessary to have at least 5 skins in your inventory 10 to 20 is better. But we all know how expensive those things can be so buy wisely and I suggest buying ones that you can use for many different outfits and save the eccentric looks for later when you actually need them if you are on a budget.

7. Is there really a big deal with using AO poses and static poses on the runway?

Okay...Ao poses are cute for the runway but bad for photos which is why a lot of models choose to use static poses instead. There are always photographers at runway shows snapping pictures so you don't want to get caught in the middle of your AO pose doing something very awkward that ruins the photo. I tend to use AO poses rarely or very discreetly, choosing posses with a lot of time between transitions. My advice is: Choose wisely!

Every Model Is Their Own Stylist

I had an epiphany today to share my tips, tricks, hints, etc on styling (not fashion) and shopping. As a model you soon become an experienced shopper but there are those new, aspiring models out there that may need an extra boost, hint, or guidance. As many have stated over the years and in many publications, modeling does not make you bank- not unless you start entering contests and winning them all. You'll find yourself shelling out more money than getting getting it in profits so you do it for the enjoyment and pleasure of showing off those new designs. You get the first peek at a new collection with is payment in and of itself sometimes. But with that fact a model has to learn to become an smart and effecient shopper. I can't tell you how many people I have seen just go out and buy a piece of clothing to buy it with no real thought or plans for it in mind. Let me explain. When shopping for a new outfit it's always a good idea to have a style or specific look in mind. This is also a tip that's reinforced by a fashion Icon and legend in RL life such as Tim Gun so why not let that apply to Second Life?

If you find a piece that you love get some shoes, accessories, or make sure you already have pieces that can compliment the item you're eyeing. It's better to have one fully stylized outfit where the pieces match up perfectly than several mismatching pieces that you just happened to fall in love with on a shopping trip. If you see some gold shoes make sure you have the pants or skirt to go with it, or anything else for that matter. This allows you to get the most bang for your buck and you're not left wasting it on something you'll not be able to wear with anything in your current wardrobe! Another tip is shop responsibly! It may sound like a hassel but don't just settle for something, find that PERFECT item, pose, outfit, etc. Make sure to allow yourself enough time to shop around, usually a full day depending on your graphics card and how fast your computer runs (you'll end up lagging out and spending about half of the day just trying to move around and rez things in the store not to mention planning for distractions).

Another good thing for models is to stay organized! I was listening to a group chat recently when someone asked for help and it inspired me to write to you- our readers- to help you out as well. Organization is probably one of the most important things of modeling and it is sadly overlooked. You start buying so many items and get so busy between practices, classes, runway shows, photo shoots, friends, family, etc that you sometimes forget to take the time to maintain your inventory and you soon find it in a shambles unable to find anything. Of course there's always the filter and search feature which has saved my behind more than a few hundred times but why not take the extra time to develop some good organizational habits? This is not only something for second life but can help you in your real as well. Here are a few basic tips I've found has helped me out a lot.

Categorize your LMs either in folders or in Notecards. I perfer to do it in notecards and label them Poses, Women's clothing, Hair, Men's clothing (for my male friends), Photography, Agencies, Designers, etc. I use notecards primarily because it lessens the number of items in my inventory which would not happen with folders. so instead of having 100 LMs crowding my inventory I have only 6-8 notecards instead.
Take the time to Organize your clothing. I have so many folders and categories that it's amazing. I do try to keep it as simple but conscise as possible. I like to have folders and sub folders to further divide things up so that I'm not stuck scrolling through an endless parade of items.
Delete your freebies. This saved me so much time you will just never know! I hated scrolling through the hundreds of freebies from my old days so I sat down and dug in one day to get rid of every freebie I've ever owned.
Take a Spring cleaning day. Plan a full day to sit down in a quiet corner- no interruptions- in a sandbox or your own home and go through every item in your inventory. If you don't ever plan on wearing something, delete it. Take a look at your objects folder, lost and found, trash, etc and go from the bottom to the top. (oldest to newest)
There are also gadgets in second life that are reported to help organize your inventory. One such item would be HippoInven. I'm not sure about this as I have never tried it and it seems a bit too complicated for me to even want to attempt it. [laughs] but if you have no problem with the technology side of things then this may be for you.

I hope that these tips and tricks come in handy for everyone out there looking to find easier and more efficient ways to maintain their inventory as well as those that wish to learn better shopping techniques and methods to get the best value for the money.
