I was on Gap.com trying to find these AWESOME printed skinny jeans my friend was recently wearing (and apparently were, like, $8!), when I came across this:

I guess... it's a denim jumpsuit. Sorry, but this is just WAY too close to overalls territory for me. I have very few absolute truths in my life but the few I do hold fast to, I'm absolutely stalwartly committed to, and one of those absolute truths is that I will NEVER, EVER EVER wear overalls.

... And it looks even scarier going than coming.

I guess we all make mistakes. At least the model proves that if Gwen Stefani and Jennifer Lopez somehow combined eggs and had a child, it'd be very attractive and cool-looking. But that's probably obvious.

Oh yeah, I never found the jeans.

Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2012: The Key Pieces

Looks like Michael Kors headed west for his Pre-Fall 2012 collection. Quintessential American designer goes quintessentially American, leaves the mortifying stars and stripes and dusty bandannas behind (remember those Guess ads!?), thankfully. Gratuitous use of animal byproducts, asymmetrical hemlines, SUPER cinched waists, slightly S&M-ish straps and harnesses, rugged rucksacks, and, yes, literally cowboy hats (though thankfully none in like, those wretched pinks or mint or something cowgirl types wear.) It's equine-inspired, elegant cowpoke chic, not mechanical-bull-riding cowgirl.

Because I'm Jewish, I can say with 150% confidence that I will never, ever wear a cowboy/-girl hat, but I'm fully behind Michael Kors' thoroughly modern taken on a classic American look.

3 Super Sexist Vintage Coffee Ads

I've been on a vintage ad binge lately, and I've got some anecdotal evidence that demonstrates that coffee ads were SO effing sexist! While I could just assume that vintage coffee ads had a thing for sexism, the reality is pretty much ALL ads had a thing for sexism. But here are three horrifying coffee ads I came across that just boggle the mind.

The first is this RAGINGLY inappropriate Chase Sanborn coffee ad that put the fear of God -- and domestic violence -- in women lest their coffee sucks. Lady, you got one job: do EVERYTHING AROUND THE HOUSE. So don't fuck up ANYTHING. Especially the coffee. And you KNOW how Hal gets about his coffee.

This 1972 ad for Maxim coffee was also sexist but with notes of subordination and subservience as opposed to getting your ass beaten. Beyas, who cares what you think about roasted beans, as long as your husband likes his java.
Hey lady, guess what? I know you hang a lot of your self-worth on the quality of your coffee. It seems the well-being of your marriage balances precariously on a set of depressingly unrealistic and objectifying expectations. But, dude your husband fucking HATES your coffee, and he's gonna use that as a way to withhold both emotional intimacy and sex while at the same time comparing you to other women! Sorrles!

Garnier's BB Cream Foundation Will Give You The Skin You Should've Been Born With

I mean that in the nicest way possible. But if we all were in possession of the skin we should've been born with, I wouldn't be writing this, and you wouldn't be reading it. Okay, with that caveat out of the way, I'll admit I usually avoid foundation unless I'm having rosacea issues (jealous much?), which I do occasionally. But I was kinda intrigued by BB Cream when it landed on my desk.

So, here's the thing about Garnier BB Cream: It's rich, but there's no bottom-of-the-McDonald's-bag grease factor at all, blends like a boss, and evens out redness or whatever else ails you, so to speak. And, best of all, it doesn't give you wet-paint face (you know, like those foundations that are so thick you look like someone slapped you in the face with a paintbrush utterly covered in latex paint/ see also: cream cheese face), which is just a horrifying feeling.

Ladies (and guys who wear foundation), I've been guilty of feeling suspicious and skeptical of drugstore foundation, but Garnier BB Cream left my skin far more radiant than my regular face. It's the easiest, most idiot-proof foundation I've ever used next to Giorgio Armani Face Fabric. Here's how it works: JUST PUT IT ON. DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR FACE. Not too much. Just a few dabs. (It comes in just two shades -- light/medium and medium/deep, so universally speaking, you probably can't screw this up much.) BOOM. Bask in that glow, try not to get pregnant.

Watch and learn, people. Ninety-year-old Iris Apfel is everything I want to be when I grow up: a bespectacled, unabashedly bad-ass New Yorker unafraid to be a style original and unafraid to wear all of her bracelets at once. Who am I kidding? That is probably four percent of Iris Apfel's bracelet collection. But anyone who abides by the polar opposite of Coco Chanel's "take off one accessory before you leave the house" fashion rule of thumb is probably someone whose arms I envy. Oh, and I'd also like to be way way way rich. (Not gonna lie about that one.) I'd be charitable too. Gosh. Don't be all judge-y in my fantasy.

Another reason to want to be Iris Apfel? MAC, quite astutely, just released their Iris Apfel collection, a limited-edition 20-piece collection, and of course my favorites are the nail polishes and lipsticks, especially the shades brighter than a tanning bed on fire. My rule of thumb for lipstick, and nail polish is usually "would someone be able to see this from space?" If yes, then it's probably a beauty product I'll invest in.

Yes, way. Creepers -- those steadfast stalwarts of the flatform family -- are back. They've crept their way from the '70s, '80s and (un petit peu) '90s into the '00s, and, quite frankly, I see no problem with that. They're so bulky it's almost bonkers, and they're like Oxfords on steroids.

I'm partial to BC Footwear's Creepers. Wear them with a little babydoll dress for a variation on the Kurt-and-Courtney '90s look (everyone will expect you to wear Docs, and you'll throw them for a loop-de-loop). Or, do a menswear look with a pair of rolled-up baggy black pants -- hi, Zara's excellent trousers -- and a simple black and white striped shirt. OR, do yourself a favor and try a fitted, bright silk blouse (I'm sensing mustard, because fluorescent is too overwhelming in this case) and a blazer with a few gold chains and some big bangles for a Duckie-meets-New Jack Swing variation. Man, New Jack knew where it was at with color.

Well, we're just rolling through a week of everything I want for Chanukkah, with me posting my favorite stylish gift and you lovingly purchasing them for me! Because that's how it works!

So, for the fifth night of Chanukkah, I would most certainly like to unwrap Marais' winter-perfect black suede Chukkah heel boots... AVEC tiny little studs on the toe cap:

These Rachel Comey lookalikes (haaaaaaaaay) would not only look but FEEL so right with my J. Crew khakis rolled up just so and a kinda-sorta tucked-in dress shirt or grey sweater. So MAKE THE MAGIC HAPPEN, CHANUKKAH! I'm a size 8.

Aritzia's Baye Black Tunic Dress: All I Want For The Fourth Night Of Chanukkah

Before I get into my fourth-night-of-Chanukkah gift (for me!) pick, I need to say a word about Aritizia. Aritizia is a Canadian chain of moderately-priced boutiques, and the New York location opened this past June, and it's one of my favorite new "high street" shops. Half of the store feels like Madewell -- neat, conservative English major-inspired pleated skirts, flowy shirtwaist dresses, and demure blouses and in natural neutral hues -- and the other half is sportier basic tops, workout wear and hoodies. Like American Apparel minus the see-through. Oh, when I discovered Aritzia's TNA house brand longsleeve t-shirts (they're more like lightweight sweaters, and they feel like James Perse), it was like the culmination of a personal style vision quest: they're banded so they emphasize the waist, they're the perfect V-neck cut, and they're only $35. I bought five.

Anyway, Aritzia's sheer, flowy black tunic is getting bumped to the top of my Chanukkah list, namely because it's so versatile and because I don't own anything like this. Which actually makes it a need and not a want, right?

Also, if this dress came in the same box as this INCREDIBLY SICK fitted ikat jacket, I definitely would have no cause to utilize fake-surprise face. Double ikat? Oil that lasted eight days? Now THAT's what I call a Chanukkah miracle!
